Trot Singer YoungTak Says BTS’ Jin Breathed New Life Into His Career

In 2021, a catchy trot tune titled “Jjin-iya” by the singer YoungTak became the talk of the town. It had a repetitive chorus that goes “Jin, Jin, Jin, Jjin-iya,” mirroring BTSJin‘s stage name. This serendipitous overlap didn’t go unnoticed by BTS, who playfully engaged with the trend, giving the song an even broader audience in South Korea.

Every time he interacted with the media, YoungTak never missed an opportunity to thank BTS. For instance, during a recent interview, YoungTak shed light on the transformative impact this song had on his career. He candidly referred to Jin as the catalyst that rekindled his musical journey. Due to the rising popularity of “Jjin-iya,” YoungTak found himself performing in countries like Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand.

[MMA 2020] 영탁 – 니가 왜 거기서 나와 + 찐이야 #멜론 #MELON

Delving into his past, YoungTak opened up about the challenges he faced before his breakthrough. “There was a time in my career when I was hit by the thought that a singer’s income isn’t that much. So I transitioned to teaching kids for two to three years. As I was doing that, people around me were complimenting me, saying, ‘I think you’re a great teacher.’ The positive feedback I received as a teacher kept me going,” he said.

However, during this phase, he confessed, “During those times, I lost the will to write music. I was very sad about not performing. The truth is that I am a singer who gave up and stopped because I had no income. But all those experiences became a big motivation for me to live a better life for my future,” he said.”

YoungTak wants to treat BTS’ Jin to a meal

Highlighting a memorable moment, YoungTak reminisced about his performance of “Jjin-iya” at the 2020 Melon Music Awards. “I’m grateful to BTS, especially Jin. My performance coincided with his birthday, and because of my song’s chorus, BTS was left wondering, ‘Who’s this Jin, Jin, Jin guy?’ This intrigue played a pivotal role in propelling my song to viral status,” he said.

Another heartwarming incident YoungTak shared was when Jin publicly declared his fondness for YoungTak‘s song “Why Are You Coming Out From There” during a TV appearance. “Every time Jin showers, he listens to my song. I was deeply touched by his shoutout and look forward to the day I can express my gratitude in person, perhaps over a meal,” YoungTak added with a smile.

The trot singer’s story serves as a testament to the unpredictable nature of fame and the power of genuine appreciation between artists. Isn’t that nice? – K-Pop News Writer

The Boyz Had Fun Filming the Music Video for “Lip Gloss” in the Philippines

Siargao Island, nestled in the north-eastern part of Mindanao bordering the Pacific Ocean, is often hailed as a tropical paradise. With its pristine white sand beaches, impressive waves perfect for surfing, and the warm hospitality of its inhabitants, it’s no wonder that the K-pop group The Boyz found themselves drawn to this stunning locale. The 11-member ensemble recently trooped to the eastern Philippine island to capture the visuals for their latest single, “Lip Gloss.”

Main vocalist New shared his admiration for Siargao in a behind-the-scenes video. “Now I know why people are crazy about Siargao,” he remarked, adding that even though he isn’t particularly fond of water, the waves in Siargao left New in awe. This nearly 24-minute video, released on The Boyz‘s YouTube channel, offered the group’s fans a glimpse into the filming process, showcasing individual scenes and dance sequences.

However, the music video’s release wasn’t without controversy. Netizens expressed disappointment over the casting choices, particularly the decision to use a white female lead, especially because the video was shot in the Philippines. Critics felt this choice didn’t accurately represent the Philippines and missed an opportunity to spotlight local talent. Some even humorously questioned why Filipina celebrities like Liza Soberano or Kathryn Bernardo weren’t considered for the role.

But the diversity issue wasn’t limited to the lead actress. Towards the video’s conclusion, after the female lead interacts with each member, she goes off with another man. Subsequently, another girl gestures towards her friends, hinting at their interest in The Boyz. Observant viewers noted that this entire group appeared to be white, and the crowd at the party also seemed to lack significant diversity.

What is Siargao famous for?

Despite these concerns, many Filipino fans of The Boyz expressed immense gratitude and joy. They felt the single’s music video showcased Siargao Island, promoting the Philippines as effectively as any tourism advertisement their government could come up with. Filipino Deobis took to social media to share their appreciation.

Beyond its beaches, Siargao is famous for its surfing spots, with Cloud9 being its signature break. The island also boasts of the Sohoton Caves, a unique natural reserve, and the warm hospitality of its residents. The island’s nightlife might not be bustling, but the Tattoo Bar, hidden amidst the palm trees, offers a unique experience for those looking to party in the jungle.

Although The Boyz‘s “Lip Gloss” music video shoot in Siargao was a fitting tribute to the island’s charm, it also sparked a welcome conversation about diversity and representation in entertainment. As the world becomes more interconnected, it’s crucial for artists and creators to approach their work with sensitivity and awareness, ensuring that everyone feels seen and valued. – K-Pop News Writer

SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu Rumored to Be Dating Jeon Somi

The K-pop world never ceases to surprise, and the latest rumor is about SEVENTEEN‘s Mingyu and Jeon Somi. Netizens are abuzz with speculations about a possible romance between the two stars, and the evidence is piling up.

Recently, Mingyu was seen at the listening party for Somi’s latest album, “Game Plan.” Notably, he was there for the title song “Fast Forward.” For her part, Somi shared an Instagram story of her merchandise. The highlight? A drawstring bag draped over a distinctive lacy cardigan.

https://twitter.com/F0RS0MI/status/1689984023400263680

Now here’s where things get interesting. Mingyu had previously posted a picture of himself wearing a similar cardigan. Moreover, during Somi‘s party, he was even spotted wearing it. This coincidence led many to believe that Mingyu might own the cardigan spotted in Somi’s Instagram story.

Mingyu wasn’t the only one there

But while the evidence might seem compelling, fans are reminding each other to exercise caution, as Mingyu wasn’t the only SEVENTEEN member at Somi‘s party. The8 and Woozi were also present. Given that several other artists, including big names like BTS‘s RM and TWICE‘s Jihyo, attended the event as well, it’s plausible that Mingyu and Somi are just close friends.

Besides, as one netizen said, “If they truly were dating, I doubt they’d be this obvious, especially with the recent dating scandal surrounding SEVENTEEN‘s Joshua.”

Speaking of Joshua, he recently faced criticism due to suspected dating rumors with a model. The K-pop rumor mill has been quite active lately. While BLACKPINK‘s Jisoo confirmed her relationship with Ahn Bo Hyun, other rumored relationships, like those between BTS‘s V and BLACKPINK‘s Jennie or BLACKPINK‘s Lisa and Frédéric Arnault, remain unverified.

In the end, whether Mingyu and Somi are dating or just good friends, it’s essential to remember that they, like all artists, deserve respect and privacy. Speculations can be fun, but it’s crucial to approach them with a sense of responsibility and understanding. – K-Pop News Writer

SEVENTEEN Appears in a Commercial for an HPV Vaccine

In a world where health communication is paramount, the right advertisement can make a significant difference. The recent Gardasil HPV vaccine advertisement featuring the K-pop group SEVENTEEN is proof of this. The ad has been lauded not only for its cinematic effects and compelling visuals but also for its choice of SEVENTEEN as ambassadors.

Since their debut in 2015, SEVENTEEN has starred in numerous commercials. But none have taken the internet by storm—at least, not like this. The Gardasil advertisement, which aired on August 14, presented the members in what looks like a dystopian setting, emphasizing the tagline, “Change the future, change the world.” Its message was clear: the Gardasil HPV vaccine, which fights the human papillomavirus leading to several severe cancers, is essential for everyone, regardless of gender.

Interestingly, the choice of SEVENTEEN for this campaign isn’t just about their massive fan base. It’s also about breaking barriers. Historically, HPV vaccines have been associated with women since the virus itself is linked to cervical cancer. However, men are equally susceptible to HPV-related cancers. This misconception was highlighted in the tvN series Record of Youth. In that series, Park Bogum’s character got the vaccine, sparking interest among male viewers. Yet, many still perceive it as a “vaccine for women,” and the high costs associated with the vaccine further deter individuals from getting vaccinated.

SEVENTEEN‘s involvement in this ad campaign is a significant step towards changing this narrative. Their participation not only raises awareness but also challenges societal norms, emphasizing that viruses affect everyone, regardless of gender.

Reactions to the SEVENTEEN-Gardasil partnership

The online community has been abuzz with praise for SEVENTEEN‘s initiative. Fans from around the world have expressed their admiration for the group’s commitment to a vital cause.

SEVENTEEN‘s involvement in the Gardasil HPV vaccine advertisement exemplifies the potential of media collaborations. By leveraging their vast fanbase and influence, they have brought attention to a critical health issue, demonstrating the significant impact celebrities have on the public’s opinion and behavior.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of vaccination. By using national immunization data and understanding regional nuances, tailored messages can be crafted for specific audiences. For instance, in some countries, the HPV vaccine is administered in schools. This means all currently enrolled students have the option to receive it. However, out-of-school youth might miss out on this excellent opportunity. In such cases, engaging influential figures like SEVENTEEN becomes crucial to ensuring widespread vaccine uptake.

As the world grapples with health challenges, collaborations like the one between SEVENTEEN and Gardasil underscore the media’s role in driving positive change. Thanks to innovative campaigns and strategic partnerships, we can foster a more informed and health-conscious society. – K-Pop News Writer

LE SSERAFIM’s Heo Yunjin Breaks Down Her New Solo Song for Teen Vogue

LE SSERAFIM‘s Heo Yunjin has had a journey that’s as intricate as the melodies she writes. In a recent sit-down with Teen Vogue, she delved deep into her inspirations, challenges, and the story behind her new solo song, “blessing in disguise.”

Yunjin‘s connection to music feels almost predestined. She says, “I think it was just very natural.” Growing up, she was surrounded by musical influences, from “musicals, plays, and movies with music” to creating songs with her sister. The passion was evident as she reminisced, “We would just make songs together and get the camera.”

This early love for music was not just about the melodies but the stories they told. Yunjin found solace in her art. She explained, “I really liked storytelling, and I found that doing that through music, expressing myself through music, was very therapeutic. But also, I don’t know, I just fell in love with it.”

However, every artist’s journey has its share of challenges. Yunjin‘s path was no exception. Her initial foray into the music industry was marked by her participation in Mnet’s Produce 48 in 2018. But the aftermath of the show was a tumultuous period for her. Although her now-groupmates Kim Chaewon and Miyawaki Sakura made it into IZ*ONE, she didn’t. That was a bitter pill for Yunjin to swallow.

She shared, “When I went back to the U.S., I don’t know, I went through every state of despair.” This period of introspection and self-doubt led her to contemplate a shift in career. But fate had other plans. A call from South Korea changed Yunjin’s trajectory, leading her to Source Music and the ranks of LE SSERAFIM. Reflecting on this twist, she said, “I went through it again. But in the end, I found my place.”

Heo Yunjin on her latest solo song

Her latest solo song, “blessing in disguise,” is a testament to her journey. It starts with an airport announcement, transporting listeners to her transformative journey from JFK to Incheon. Yunjin‘s description of the track as a conversation echoes the song’s intimate and personal nature. “It feels like I’m just talking to a friend,” she remarked.

HUH YUNJIN – ‘blessing in disguise’

The song’s disco funk genre was a departure from her comfort zone, but the result is a refreshing blend of sounds that captivates listeners. She admitted, “It’s disco funk, which is very out of my comfort zone, so I actually took months to write the song.”

The accompanying music video adds another dimension to the song. Moving away from animations, Yunjin chose to use personal footage instead, offering FEARNOT an unfiltered view of her world. Despite the singer-songwriter’s initial reservations about doing so, the final product is a heartfelt montage of memories, showcasing her journey from New York to Seoul and the moments in between.

A standout figure

Yunjin‘s authenticity shone through in her interview with Teen Vogue. Her reflections on her past, present, and future are laced with vulnerability.

“I’ve always had a fear of the future,” she confessed. Delving deeper into this sentiment, Yunjin expressed, “I do always try to live in the present, but I think writing about the past is easy because everything has passed, and I can look at it from a mature perspective. But if I write about it right now, I feel like… I don’t know; it’s very raw and feels very vulnerable, I think, because this is me right now, and I’m facing myself as I am right now, so there’s nothing I can do about it. I can’t be like, ‘Oh yeah, I was a little younger.’ No, this is today.”

Teen Vogue‘s feature on LE SSERAFIM’s Heo Yunjin is a comprehensive exploration of an artist’s world, from her musical inspirations to the creative process behind her songs and visuals. It’s quite a compelling narrative that underscores the depth and breadth of her artistry, painting Yunjin as a standout figure in the contemporary K-pop scene. – K-Pop News Writer

Fans Rejoice as EXO’s Chanyeol Confirms Rumors of His Solo Debut

The K-pop world buzzed with excitement on August 14, when EXO‘s Chanyeol made a surprising but welcome announcement. At the EXIST Yizhiyu offline fansign event in Qingdao, China, he confirmed what fans had been hoping for: his solo debut is on the horizon.

Chanyeol was joined by his fellow EXO members Baekhyun, Chen, D.O., Sehun, Suho, and Xiumin. Their presence gave the event an electric atmosphere, and the baseball uniforms they sported were a nice touch. As word of Chanyeol’s announcement spread, social media platforms were flooded with ecstatic fans sharing their anticipation and joy.

Chanyeol has done things on his own before. For instance, he has contributed to OSTs of hit drama series like Go Away Go Away and Stay With Me. However, an actual solo debut remained elusive, at least until now. As the news spread like wildfire, EXO-Ls worldwide couldn’t help but comment on Chanyeol‘s radiant smile during the event, speculating that his upcoming solo venture might be the reason for it.

Interestingly, Chanyeol already boasts over a million followers on QQ Music, even without a solo album. Moreover, he’s the most-listened-to K-pop solo artist on KuGou, with a staggering 500 million streams on Melon. These impressive stats underscore the immense anticipation surrounding his solo debut.

A new beginning for Chanyeol

The fansign event wasn’t just about the big reveal. Chanyeol and his fellow EXO members engaged with fans, sharing light-hearted banter, moments and taking selfies. A particularly amusing incident occurred after the event when Chanyeol, unaware that the staff had cleared the stage, looked for his desk and found it missing. This innocent blunder had fans chuckling.

For those unfamiliar with Chanyeol‘s journey, he was the last member introduced to EXO before their debut in April 2012. Beyond his group activities, he showcased his talent in movies and dramas such as So I Married an Anti-fan and Secret Queen Makers. In 2019, he debuted in the sub-unit EXO-SC with their first mini album What a Life. After a brief hiatus, during which he completed his mandatory military service, he returned in 2022.

Before breaking the news of his upcoming solo debut, he participated in EXO’s group comeback with the album EXIST and its title track “Cream Soda.”
