Cha Eunwoo, ENHYPEN, and LE SSERAFIM to Guest on Lee Hyori’s Show

Cha Eunwoo, ENHYPEN, LE SSERAFIM, and Uhm Junghwa are all scheduled to grace the KBS2 music program Lee Hyori’s Red Carpet. Herald POP reports that all four acts participated in the recording on the same day, February 20, but not together. This indicates each act will appear on the show one after the other. During the recording, each act sat down with host Lee Hyori for games, interviews, and more.

Lee Hyori and Uhm Junghwa were members of Refund Sisters, a project girl group formed on MBC’s Hangout With Yoo. They also did tvN’s Dancing Queens on the Road together. Audiences were thrilled to see them work so well with each other. That’s why their fans were happy to hear about Uhm Junghwa‘s upcoming appearance on Lee Hyori’s Red Carpet.

Meanwhile, fans of ENHYPEN and LE SSERAFIM who attended the recording shared spoilers on social media. An ENGENE revealed that ENHYPEN performed several songs, starting with a reprise of “Come 2 Me” by Uhm Junghwa, a track they originally covered for the 2023 Weverse Con Festival. Their performance included a special appearance by Uhm Junghwa herself, with ENHYPEN’s Sunghoon escorting her onstage halfway through the group’s performance.

What else did they do for Lee Hyori?

After that, they segued into a rock version of “Bite Me.” They also covered One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful,” which is reportedly set to be released on streaming services at 6:00 PM KST on Friday. However, their label, BELIFT LAB, has yet to confirm this. Finally, ENHYPEN’s eldest member, Heeseung, reportedly showed off his perfect pitch ability in a game with the show’s house band, impressing their leader by acing all their tests.

The LE SSERAFIM girls also showed off their talents during their sit-down with Lee Hyori. Leader Chaewon performed an acoustic version of Doja Cat’s “Kiss Me More,” and Huh Yunjin sang her original composition “I ≠ DOLL” live on the show.

SOPA Clarifies Former LE SSERAFIM Kim Garam’s Public Appearances

Seoul Performing Arts High School or SOPA has made a decisive statement regarding the graduation ceremony, confirming that Kim Garam, formerly associated with LE SSERAFIM, will not be featured on the graduation photo wall. This announcement, following recent rumors, puts to rest any speculation about Garam’s potential appearance during the event.

A SOPA official clarified the situation, affirming that Garam is not among the students slated to appear in the public ceremony scheduled for February 7 at 11 AM. Given Garam’s current status as a non-celebrity without representation from an agency, there is no compelling reason for her to partake in the media-centric photo wall ceremony.

Garam’s journey has been marked by highs and lows, notably her brief stint as a member of LE SSERAFIM, which captivated headlines upon its debut in May 2022. However, her tenure with the group was abruptly cut short by allegations of school violence, which cast a shadow over her career. Despite vehement denials from Source Music and legal actions taken against the accusers, the controversy surrounding Garam persisted, ultimately leading to her departure from both the group and the agency in July 2022.

In the aftermath of the tumult, Garam has sought to clear her name, publicly refuting the allegations and providing documentation related to the school violence investigation to substantiate her innocence. Transitioning away from the world of K-pop, Garam has redirected her focus towards her education, enrolling in the Department of Media and Acting at Konkuk University, signaling a new chapter in her life’s journey.

LE SSERAFIM Announces Comeback With Third Mini Album ‘Easy’

After a nine-month hiatus, LE SSERAFIM is poised for a grand return on February 19 with their third mini-album EASY. Their agency Source Music made the announcement via the fan community platform Weverse at midnight on January 22.

EASY marks the girl group’s first Korean release since their first full-length album UNFORGIVEN in May last year. This comeback signifies a new chapter for LE SSERAFIM, in which they’ll venture into uncharted territory. Their previous releases focused on themes of confidence and strength. This time, their new material will be “an honest exploration of the uncertainties and concerns beneath LE SSERAFIM’s confident exterior.”

In conjunction with the announcement, their record label HYBE and Source Music released a logo motion video for the new album on their official SNS accounts and YouTube channel. The video features LE SSERAFIM’s logo and ends with the phrase “MAKE IT LOOK EASY.” Seconds later, the words “IT LOOK” are crossed out, leaving fans to wonder what that could mean.

LE SSERAFIM demonstrated consistent growth

LE SSERAFIM has demonstrated consistent growth with each release. ANTIFRAGILE sold over 400,000 copies on release day and 567,000 copies in its first week. This was an improvement from FEARLESS, which recorded first-week sales of 307,450 copies. UNFORGIVEN demonstrated their increasing popularity by selling over 1 million copies on its first day. By the end of its first week, the album sold a remarkable total of 1,258,001 copies, setting a new record for the group’s first-week sales​​​​. It also made a mark in the US, entering the Billboard 200 at No. 6.

Their first English digital single “Perfect Night,” released in October last year, remained on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart for two straight weeks. It also broke records on Spotify’s Weekly Top Song USA chart. It was the first English song by a female K-pop artist to sweep the top spot in major music charts in Korea, such as Circle Chart and Melon, a career high for LE SSERAFIM.

On January 12 KST, Yoon Do Hyun, the lead singer of the rock band YB, took to social media to share heartwarming photos of his beloved dog Bongbong, adorned in a custom-made knitted hat and scarf. Sakura, a multi-talented artist, has an extensive background in the entertainment industry. Notably, Sakura is currently part of LE SSERAFIM, a group that ventured into the English-language music scene with their digital single “Perfect Night,” released on October 27, 2023. The collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment for “Overwatch 2” further expanded their reach, featuring an in-game event from November 1 to November 20, accompanied by a performance at BlizzCon on November 4, 2023.

BTS and BLACKPINK Are the Most Streamed K-Pop Groups on Spotify in 2023

Did you make it to the Top 1% listeners of your favorite K-pop acts? On Thursday, November 29, Spotify unveiled its compilation of the most streamed K-pop artists and songs for the year 2023. 

For those unfamiliar, the Spotify Wrapped feature is an annual end-of-the-year event wherein the music giant showcases the top artists, songs, albums, and podcasts in their streaming platform. 

As for the most streamed K-pop artists, BTS reigned supreme, securing the coveted top spot again. Within the same category, Jungkook and Jimin claimed the third and sixth positions, respectively. Both BTS members released their solo debut albums this year—Jungkook with Golden and Jimin with Face—and set Guinness World Records for their individual releases. 

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK earned the title of the most streamed girl group of the year, and ranked second to BTS in the top 10. Overall, the Top 10 most streamed K-pop artists include four boy groups, four girl groups, and two solo artists. 

In terms of the most streamed K-pop songs, Jungkook clinched the top spot with his debut solo track “Seven (feat. Latto).” Additionally, Jimin’s “Like Crazy” secured the third position on the list. Interestingly, they’re the only entries in the Top 10 that came from a male act. Other entries in the Top 10 were mainly from female acts, with NewJeans securing four entries out of 10. 

Furthermore, Jungkook’s “Seven” also dominated the worldwide charts, ranking fourth at the most streamed song globally. According to Spotify, the only songs that racked up more Spotify streams in 2023 were Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers,” SZA’s “Kill Bill,” and Harry Styles’ “As It Was.”  What makes this achievement even more impressive is that “Seven” was only released in mid-July.

LE SSERAFIM Shows Support for LA Lakers During NBA Game

It’s the collaboration between K-pop and basketball that we didn’t saw coming! Girl group LE SSERAFIM took center stage as special guests of the NBA team Los Angeles Lakers. 

On Wednesday, November 1, the quintet stole the spotlight at the Crypto.com Arena as they witnessed the electrifying showdown between the Lakers and the Clippers.

Speculations about a potential collaboration between the two were prompted by an intriguing Instagram post from member Yunjin. In her photo, she shared the customized Lakers jerseys adorned with the names of the LE SSERAFIM members and their chosen numbers. 

LE SSERAFIM as Lakers Girls

During their appearance, the group was affectionately referred to as the Laker Girls cheerleaders. And to further amp up the excitement, LE SSERAFIM even treated the attendees with a performance of their  hit song “ANTIFRAGILE.”

As fate would have it, the LA Lakers emerged victorious over their local rivals, the LA Clippers. Notably, the win ended an 11-game losing streak.

In the aftermath of this victory, LE SSERAFIM was affectionately dubbed the “Victory Fairy” by sports fans. 

Moreover, the fun extended beyond the game itself, as members of LE SSERAFIM had the opportunity to meet some of the Lakers’ key players. For example, Magic Johnson, one of the iconic point guards of the Lakers and one of the most accomplished figures in basketball history, welcomed the K-pop stars with open arms. 

 

On social media, both K-pop fans and sports enthusiasts were delighted by the encounter. Some fans couldn’t help but notice and poke fun the height difference between the towering Magic Johnson and the members of LE SSERAFIM.

The ‘ANTIFRAGILE’ singers in the US

Interestingly, the Lakers game was just one of the many highlights in the group’s series of promotional activities in the United States. 

Primarily, the group is in the US to  promote their latest digital single, “Perfect Night.” Since this new song is a collaboration with the popular video game Overwatch 2, the group also attended the second night of BlizzCon 2023. 

In October, game developer BLIZZARD Entertainment announced the unexpected crossover between Overwatch and LE SSERAFIM. Not only did this collaboration delighted fans of both the game and the group but it also introduced their music to a new global audience.

Adding to their list of impressive appearances, LE SSERAFIM is also set to make their  television debut on Today with Hoda & Jenna. Furthermore, the group also performed at Grammy Museum’s Global Spin Live, solidifying their status as international superstars.

On October 26, SourceMusic officially confirmed that Kim Chaewon will be resuming her schedules with LE SSERAFIM starting next week. The agency also explained that the idol was ill, which led to her absence in the previous week.

“Kim Chaewon has been taking a break from her activities while recovering from the aftereffects of the Influenza A virus since last week,” the statement read. “Medical experts have now concluded that she may resume her schedules beginning next week, and so she will return to activities on Wednesday, November 1.”

“Source Music will continue to provide support for its artists so that the artists may greet fans with a healthy image,” it concluded.

This is an awesome update considering that LE SSERAFIM is set to release a digital single titled “Perfect Night.” The release comes as part of a special collaboration with the video game “Overwatch 2” and is scheduled for October 27, 2023. As part of this exciting collaboration, the group will also be performing at the highly anticipated video game convention ‘BlizzCon 2023,’ taking place at the Anaheim Convention Center, with their performance set for November 4, 2023. With Kim Chaewon’s return, the idol will be able to perform the new song with the rest of the group.

This isn’t the first time that Kim Chaewon has fallen ill this month. LE SSERAFIM previously cancelled their “FLAME RISES” concerts in Bangkok, Thailand in the first week of October. Although the concerts were scheduled to take place on October 7 and 8, the dates were ultimately cancelled after three members including Kim Chaewon, Huh Yunjin, and Kazuha were diagnosed with Type A influenza.

On Thursday, October 19, game developer BLIZZARD Entertainment announced this surprising crossover. 

This interesting collaboration promises to bring gamers and music enthusiasts alike an unforgettable fusion of gaming and music. Moreover, it will offer a unique and immersive experience to both fandoms.

 

What we know so far in LE SSERAFIM x Overwatch 2 

As of writing, many details about this collaboration are still under wraps. 

But the project will kickstart with the release of “Perfect Night” on October 26. Previously, the quintet has released concept photos for this all-English single. There, the members followed a mix of sporty and futuristic themes.

Now that it’s confirmed to be a collaboration with Overwatch 2, fans are anticipating as to how the single will complement the high-octane world of the game. 

Additionally, BLIZZARD Entertainment has also hinted at a “LE SSERAFIM-inspired custom game mode and exclusive Overwatch hero skins.” 

Based on the teaser art alone, fans and gamers are anticipating for more in-game items. As well as how the game will draw inspiration from the distinctive style and energy of the LE SSERAFIM members. 

More information about this collaboration will be revealed on October 30. Then the exclusive content will be available in-game starting November 1. 

To make this partnership even more unforgettable, LE SSERAFIM will also grace the second night of BlizzCon 2023, scheduled for November 4. At this annual gaming extravaganza, the girl group will treat attendees with their latest single “Perfect Night.”
