With Korean news outlet MyDaily breaking the news on May 10, fans are eagerly anticipating the possibility of witnessing these two talented stars grace the small screen together.

Amidst the buzz, Yook Sungjae’s agency, IWILL Media, confirmed that the actor-singer has indeed received an offer to join the cast of “Gwigoong” and is currently reviewing it with keen interest. Likewise, Bona’s agency, Starship Entertainment, revealed that the actress-singer is positively considering the offer, hinting at the potential for an exciting on-screen collaboration.

 

“Gwigoong” promises to transport viewers into a captivating world of fantasy, steeped in Korean folklore and romance. At its core, the drama explores the intriguing tale of the Eight Feet Tall spirit’s vendetta against the king, intertwined with the narrative of a female shaman and an Imuri named Gang Cheol Yi. Drawing from rich mythology, the story unfolds against the backdrop of ancient legends and mythical creatures, adding depth and mystique to the plot.

Who Will Bona and Yook Sungjae Play?

Reportedly, Bona has been tapped to portray Young Mae, a character steeped in familial legacy and burdened by the weight of expectation. As the granddaughter of a revered shaman, Young Mae navigates a world fraught with spiritual intrigue and personal destiny.

SBS Plans to Hold ‘Gayo Daejeon’ Twice in 2024

On February 19, Sports Chosun revealed that SBS is planning to hold the Gayo Daejeon twice in 2024, marking a significant expansion for the renowned music festival. The broadcasting company will mount a mid-year show in addition to the traditional year-end one. Set for July 21 and December 25, both shows will take place at the new Inspire Arena, an indoor multipurpose performance hall located on Yeongjeong Island in Incheon. It has a seating capacity of 15,000 people.

SBS Gayo Daejeon began in 1992 as part of the SBS Star Awards’ singer category. It adopted its current name in 1996. Until 2006, it honored artists with a grand prize, celebrating K-pop icons like BoA, Fin.K.L, g.o.d, H.O.T, Jo Sungmo, and Lee Hyori. The awards ceremony was discontinued in 2007, briefly revived in 2014, and has since morphed into a music festival.

The 2023 edition’s theme was “SWITCH ON.” It took place at the Inspire Arena and featured TVXQ, who celebrated their 20th anniversary with a special performance. Other top artists, such as ATEEZ, BLANK2Y, ENHYPEN, ITZY, IVE, NCT 127, NewJeans, and NiziU, also performed. Groups like NMIXX, SHINee, Stray Kids, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, and ZEROBASEONE were also present. All in all, a grand total of 25 teams hit the Gayo Daejeon stage last year.

Gayo Daejeon 2023 was controversial

Despite high expectations due to the star-studded lineup, the event faced various controversies, including issues with counterfeit tickets that affected many attendees. Safety concerns on-site and technical glitches with sound and subtitles during the live broadcast marred the proceedings, leaving fans disappointed.

SBS plans to hold Gayo Daejeon twice in 2024 to give fans more opportunities to celebrate K-pop music and culture. The organizers have taken note of the mistakes made in previous years and are likely taking steps to ensure improvements.

‘SBS Inkigayo’ Takes a 3-Week Break From Broadcast

“SBS Inkigayo”, a staple in the K-pop music show lineup, will be on hiatus for three consecutive weeks, marking a temporary break from its regular broadcast schedule. The announcement made by SBS on December 17 indicates that the popular music show will not air on December 17, December 24, and during the week following until the first week of January.

SBS Inkigayo Will NOT Air Until January 2024

On December 17, instead of “Inkigayo”, SBS will broadcast the 4th stage of the “2023–24 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup” from 1:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. This deviation from the usual music programming suggests a temporary shift in content, catering to other events during this period.

The absence of “SBS Inkigayo” on December 24 aligns with the preparations for the “SBS 2023 Gayo Daejeon”, a significant year-end music festival scheduled for December 25. The strategic scheduling decision allows for a focus on the elaborate year-end celebration without the concurrent airing of Inkigayo.

Fans can anticipate the return of “Inkigayo” to its regular weekly broadcast on the first week of January, resuming its Sunday slot at 3:40 p.m. This brief hiatus may offer the production team and performers a well-deserved break during the festive season, ensuring that the show returns with renewed energy in the new year.
