SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi Pays it Forward to Children in Need

Earlier this month, the Fruit of Love in Northern Gyeonggi announced that SEVENTEEN‘s Hoshi donated 100 million KRW to support children and teenagers in need worldwide. This act of generosity isn’t new for him. The idol, originally from Namyangju city in northern Gyeonggi, made a similar contribution last year. His donations have secured him a spot in the Honor Society, an esteemed group of donors who have contributed over 100 million KRW to the Community Chest of Korea within a span of five years.

Hoshi‘s recent donation will help build classrooms at national orphanages. This reflects his family’s desire to spread positivity within South Korea and beyond.

SEVENTEEN’s performance leader is all about paying it forward. In a statement released through a Fruit of Love platform, he said, “I’m grateful to the fans who have given me so much love, so I wanted to pass on the love I’ve received through this act of sharing. I hope children and adolescents in need, both in Korea and abroad, will grow up healthy. I aim to continue to be an artist who leads in spreading positivity.”

What sets Hoshi apart

Kwon In-wook, the president of Gyeonggi’s Love’s Fruit, expressed gratitude to Hoshi. “We’re thankful for his ongoing acts of sharing for the benefit of our neighbors in need. This precious donation will be used to support projects for children and adolescents facing difficulties both domestically and internationally,” he said.

In addition to his philanthropic efforts, Hoshi and SEVENTEEN are gearing up for their ‘FOLLOW’ AGAIN tour. It will kick off with performances at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium in South Korea on March 30 and 31. From there, the 13-member boy group will perform at Japan’s Yanmar Stadium Nagai in Osaka on May 18 and 19, and head to the Nissan Stadium in Kanagawa on May 25 and 26.

SEVENTEEN Announces ‘Follow Again’ Encore Concert

Headliners indeed! K-pop boy group SEVENTEEN is ready to achieve another milestone as they conquer bigger stadiums.

On January 29, PLEDIS Entertainment announced that the God of Musichitmakers are once again bringing their stellar performances in the upcoming FOLLOW AGAIN encore tour. Just several days after wrapping up FOLLOW’s Asia leg, the agency revealed that the group will be returning to South Korea and Japan in 2024.

In a 30-second video, PLEDIS Entertainment unveiled that the encore tour will kick off in Incheon Asiad Main Stadium on March 30 to 31. With this,  SEVENTEEN will set a new record under their name as they become the first K-Pop group to hold a solo performance at the said venue.

After that, the 13-piece act will be holding TWO-day concerts in both Osaka Yanmar Stadium Nagai and Kanagawa Nissan Stadium in May. Following this, SEVENTEEN is set to become one out of the only three K-pop acts to perform in Nissan, which is known as the largest stadium in Japan.

As of writing, duo TVXQ is the first and only K-pop act to ever hold a concert in Nissan Stadium in 2018. In December 2023, girl group TWICE announced that they will be performing at the said venue for their Ready to Be in Japan Special concert in July.

With this, SEVENTEEN becomes the third K-pop act to conquer Nissan Stadium which has a massive capacity of about 70,000.

Fans’ reaction on SEVENTEEN ‘Follow Again’ encore tour

While most fans are celebrating the good news of the additional shows, several fans have also expressed their mixed emotions about the encore dates.

On social media, SEVENTEEN’s fandom, CARATs, have sent their congratulatory messages to the boy group for achieving another huge milestone. However, what makes CARATs bittersweet is the scheduled dates for the said tour.

https://twitter.com/ksywonu/status/1751622671048307000

To note, the Nissan Stadium date for the encore stage falls exactly on the group’s debut anniversary, which will be on May 26. Remarkably, it will be a historic moment for both SEVENTEEN and CARATs as it will be the finale concert for the FOLLOW era and the group’s ninth anniversary celebration.

Although undeniably proud of the group’s achievement, some Korean CARATs can’t help but feel bittersweet with the schedule. On the platforms Weverse and X,  several Korean fans stated that they feel disappointed with how the “Super” singers will be celebrating their anniversary far from their home country.

In addition, fans have also pointed out that South Korea had only two concert dates for FOLLOW to Seoul last year, while Japan had a total of 12 concerts for their FOLLOW to Japan dome tour which was set across 5 cities. Some also said that SEVENTEEN were already in Japan on their eight anniversary last year for their Love fan meeting

As of writing, PLEDIS Entertainment is yet to respond to the fans’ clamor.

Woozi Keeps His Promise to Moonbin by Releasing ‘What Kind of Future’

Let it be known that Woozi of SEVENTEEN always keeps his promises. With the release of “What Kind of Future,” he kept a promise he made to the late idol Moonbin. When the ASTRO member passed away on April 19, 2023, fans and fellow artists, including Woozi, were devastated.

Needing a place to express their grief, netizens flocked to the last post on Moonbin’s Instagram and left many heartfelt comments under it. On April 25, six days after Moonbin’s passing, Woozi wrote a comment of his own in which he opened up about how much Moonbin meant to him.

“My Binnie, ha. I miss you so much. It wasn’t even more than a week ago that we said we should find the time to dance together, and you said that I was definitely your No. 1. I can still see the giant smile you had on your face as you told me that. But this world sucks, doesn’t it? Ha… I don’t even know why a cool kid like you wanted to be close to someone like me. I’m sorry I was such a shy hyung who couldn’t express things quite well. You were really such a cool dongsaeng. How nice would it have been if I had told you the same good things you told me? I’m so ashamed of myself for not having been able to express myself to you all that well. Dear Bin, you gave me so much strength. You’ve always been so supportive of my music and my dance. You always had great anticipation for my works and loved them, too. And though I always played it cool because I felt shy, you have no idea how happy you made me feel. Haha. I’m finally telling you how I actually felt, you punk.”

어떤 미래

Woozi was true to his word

He also wrote about “What Kind of Future” and how much Moonbin loved it. His words reflected affection and gratitude for Moonbin, who had always supported his musical endeavors.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had a dongsaeng who liked me as much as you did, and I doubt I’ll ever meet another like you in the future. That’s why you’re even more precious to me, and my love for you keeps growing. But now, I’m at a loss. You know the song that you kept asking about and begged me to release so you could listen to it whenever? I’ll bring it to you on your birthday. I’ll fight the company if I have to, but I promise, no matter what, I’ll put it out for you. You know, I finished all the bibimmyeon you gave me for my birthday. Haha. You should’ve given me a chance to give you a birthday gift too, you little rascal! I’m sorry there isn’t much else I could do for you as your hyung. I love you. I cherish you, and I’m grateful for you. In my heart, you’ll always and forever be the coolest dongsaeng I’ve been grateful to have. Let’s be happy now, Bin. I love you.”

True to his word, Woozi released “What Kind of Future” on Moonbin’s birthday. The song made an impressive debut at No. 14 on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart three hours after its release. On January 31, it debuted at No. 195 on the MelOn Weekly Chart with three days of tracking. By February 3, it soared all the way to No. 1 on the same chart.

A touching tribute

“What Kind of Future” is one of Woozi‘s most personal compositions. It’s about a painful period in his life. Its meaning is open to interpretation—some see it as Woozi talking to a former lover, while others view it as him conversing with his younger self. Initially, Woozi vowed to perform it only once and never to release it. However, he ended up performing it three times—twice during SEVENTEEN’s IDEAL CUT tour in 2018, and once during BUMZU’s STUDIO concert in 2020. Woozi’s decision to drop the song on Moonbin’s birthday, January 26, was inspired by how much the latter loved it and pushed for its official release.

Woozi’s fulfillment of his promise to Moonbin is a touching tribute to their friendship. It honors the special bond they shared and keeps Moonbin’s memory alive through music. – K-Pop News Writer

SEVENTEEN Photocards Help Increase Korean Blood Donations

The Seoul Southern Blood Center of the Korean Red Cross has found a unique way to encourage blood donations by tapping into the popularity of K-pop group SEVENTEEN. Starting on January 12, affiliated blood centers in Seoul offered SEVENTEEN photocards as an additional incentive for blood donors, along with the existing perks of gift certificates and hamburger set exchange vouchers.

SEVENTEEN Photocards Boost Korean Blood Donations in Seoul

The response to the SEVENTEEN photocards incentive was nothing short of remarkable. During the event, new blood donors increased by an impressive 68.8%, and in comparison to the same period the previous year, the overall number of blood donors saw a remarkable 80.6% increase. Notably, the age group most likely to be SEVENTEEN fans—individuals in their teens and 20s—saw an 81.7% increase in blood donations.

The success of this initiative highlights the potential impact of utilizing popular K-pop groups to promote social causes. SEVENTEEN’s widespread popularity among the youth played a crucial role in motivating new and younger donors to participate in blood donation drives. The inclusion of SEVENTEEN photocards as an additional incentive showcased a keen understanding of the target demographic’s preferences.

The Korean Red Cross initially prepared 1,000 SEVENTEEN photocards for the event, anticipating a positive response. However, due to overwhelming demand and success, they found it necessary to order more photocards to meet the growing interest. The incorporation of K-pop fandom culture into healthcare initiatives not only fosters a sense of community engagement but also serves as a creative approach to addressing blood shortages.

This innovative strategy demonstrates the potential for collaboration between entertainment and public health organizations to achieve shared goals. By aligning incentives with the interests of specific demographics, such initiatives can contribute to raising awareness and participation in essential public health initiatives like blood donation.

The success of the SEVENTEEN photocards incentive in Seoul’s blood donation centers suggests the possibility of expanding similar campaigns to other regions, leveraging the influence of K-pop fandoms to make a positive impact on public health initiatives.

S.Coups Blocks SEVENTEEN’s Access to His Credit Card on ‘NANA Tour’

On January 5, the first episode of NANA Tour with SEVENTEEN finally aired, bringing excitement to the group’s fans with its unique concept. The show is a spin-off of the Korean travel reality show Youth Over Flowers, which is known for its unique format where the production team surprises the cast with spontaneous trips, often with little to no prior notice. It has featured locations like Peru, Zimbabwe, and more. The trips involve the cast completing tasks and winning games to ensure their survival in an unfamiliar environment.

https://www.tiktok.com/@always_svt13/video/7320625610269707525?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=6908322787502065153

In SEVENTEEN’s case, the members were whisked away to Italy after playing two shows in Tokyo, Japan last September as part of their FOLLOW Tour. Unfortunately, their leader S.Coups couldn’t join the tour or the Italy trip due to a knee injury. Instead, he sent the members a letter through Na Young-seok, the producer behind NANA Tour with SEVENTEEN

Jeonghan read the letter out loud in the first episode. It said, “Thank you for picking up my letter. I feel so sorry for you guys going without any preparation. You can use this card however you want. I’ll be waiting for you well in Korea. Have fun. I love you!”

S.Coups’s love for SEVENTEEN knows no bounds

The members were both surprised and touched to find that S.Coups had sent his credit card along with the letter, giving them the freedom to use it however they liked. Dino, the group’s youngest member, was put in charge of the card. But after watching his members’ enthusiastic spending, S.Coups blocked their access to the card mid-show.

@jeonrin_25

Fans and the members alike thought what S.Coups did was amusing. Some thought Seungkwan’s purchase of a funny t-shirt was the last straw. (For the record, the shirt featured the Mona Lisa doing the “dabbing” dance move, which involves dropping the head and raising one arm while bending the other at the elbow.) Others felt S.Coups stopped overseas payments on his credit card after seeing Mingyu showing off a long receipt for all the groceries he bought on the trip. Apparently, S.Coups’s love for SEVENTEEN knows no bounds—except maybe when it comes to money.

Fans can catch the NANA Tour with SEVENTEEN every Friday on tvN Asia at 8.40 PM KST. More exclusive footage from the show is available for fans on Weverse. – K-Pop News Writer

SEVENTEEN Shares Advice to PLEDIS’ New Boy Group TWS

Nine years after SEVENTEEN’s debut in 2015, PLEDIS Entertainment has finally introduced another boy group: TWS!

For those unaware, TWS stands for Twenty Four Seven With Us. It is a six-member boy group composed of Shinyu, Dohoon, Youngjae, Hanjin, Jihoon, and Kyungmin

Ahead of their official debut on January 22 with the mini-album Sparkling Blue, TWS dropped their pre-release single “Oh Mymy: 7s on January 2.

As it almost took a decade to meet their juniors, the “God of Music hitmakers made sure to support their younger PLEDIS Entertainment brothers as they set foot in the K-pop scene.

SEVENTEEN members’ words of wisdom

In the vlog titled TWS Prologue: The Full Story, the group chronicled their preparation for their debut. At one point, they were even assessed by all of the SEVENTEEN members, as well as producer Bumzu and PLEDIS Entertainment’s CEO.

After performing their pre-release single, almost all of the SEVENTEEN members also gave a piece of advice to the rookie group.

For instance, the group’s youngest member, Dino, showered TWS with compliments. After seeing their performance, Dino said that the six members did a great job in conveying youthful emotions. “I really respect you. I feel like I had something to learn from you guys. And that you were so cool,” he said.

In addition, the performance team leader, Hoshi, gave TWS some pointers in terms of performance. “Try to be objective in what you need to work on. You should continue monitoring yourselves as you practice,” Hoshi told the rookies.

Meanwhile, the other members focused on giving advice about teamwork. “There will be tough times ahead. But I hope you will rely on, protect and believe in each other. And be a group that stays close and makes music for a long time,” Mingyu said.

Moreover, Jeonghan and Joshua also emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy relationship within a group. The two vocalists advised TWS to comfort each other, talk things out, and to always get along.

One of the group’s rappers, Wonwoo, also reminded TWS that safety always comes first. “There will be times when you’re tired and on edge but I hope you stay strong through it all,” he mentioned.

PLEDIS Entertainment family shows support for TWS

Aside from the SEVENTEEN members, the agency’s well-known producer Bumzu and CEO Han Sung Su also shared heartwarming words to the rookie group. During his turn, Bumzu reassured the young idols that they will be cheering them on. He also asked the rookie group to look after their overall health.

On top of that, Han Sung Su highlighted that it is an asset to have SEVENTEEN as their seniors. “You’ve been able to see their journey and how they’ve progressed so I hope you follow in their footsteps,” the CEO said. “I hope you grow into a great group that makes great music.”

As testament to the label’s harmony, other artists from PLEDIS Entertainment also sent their congratulatory greetings to the rookies.

In a shared photo, SEVENTEEN, Bumzu, fromis9, Hwang Min Hyun and Baekho were seen sending their well wishes to TWS with some flower bouquets.

CARATs Dissatisfied with Live Nation PH’s Handling of ‘FOLLOW’ Tour

SEVENTEEN’s recent concert in the Philippines, a part of their FOLLOW tour, promised excitement but ended up delivering a series of organizational mishaps and safety issues, primarily due to Live Nation PH’s management. CARATs had eagerly anticipated the event, but their excitement quickly turned to frustration and concern.

@kyesees

Sobrang kawawa ang carats 😭😡 #svt #followtobulacan #seventeeninbulacan #hallyutalkph

♬ original sound – KyeSees🌙💫🕊️ – KyeSees🌙💫🕊️

CARATs’ troubles

The troubles began early on the day of the concert. Live Nation PH sent out last-minute reminders about queuing policies. Some fans argued that these reminders should have been sent earlier to prevent miscommunication, particularly due to potential language barriers. Live Nation PH issued the reminders in English, prompting some fans to remind the organizer that not all international fans are fluent in English. They noted that it would take time for translators to translate these reminders. There was also confusion regarding the implementation of the no re-entry policy, including when and where it would apply, as entering the venue involved multiple steps.

When fans lined up for entry and strapping, they ended up waiting in unmoving lines for hours. This put many in danger of being late to the soundcheck or missing it altogether. That would’ve been a shame, as the soundcheck is a key part of the concert experience and fans pay extra to watch it. The soundcheck started on time, but due to the queuing issues, plenty of fans didn’t make it inside the venue until after it had begun. Furthermore, in the area where fans were supposed to line up, a sign attached to the ceiling came loose at one end. If it had fallen, someone would’ve been injured.

Accessibility issues and discrimination also surfaced. In a particularly troubling incident, a CARAT reported that her sister was denied access through the PWD (persons with disabilities) entrance. The staff reportedly dismissed her sister’s need for special access because “she looked okay,” a remark that blatantly disregards the challenges faced by individuals with invisible disabilities.

SEVENTEEN intervened

The venue’s layout only added to the fans’ grievances. Fans in specific seated sections found their view obstructed by the large control booth. Despite paying full price for their tickets, they had a limited view of the stage compared to those in other sections. The pit areas also posed a problem due to their limited space, leading to overcrowding. Furthermore, it appeared that Live Nation PH didn’t have sufficient staff monitoring these areas to ensure fans’ safety.

Environmental conditions contributed to the discomfort. The temperature hovered in the mid to high 80s Fahrenheit (around 30 to 31 Celsius). High humidity also exacerbated the heat. This was intensified by the body heat from the densely packed crowd in the pit areas. To make matters worse, fans weren’t allowed to buy water outside and bring it into the venue. Inside, water was scarce, especially for those in the pit areas, raising concerns about dehydration.

SEVENTEEN’s members themselves took notice of the fans’ plight and intervened. During the soundcheck, Seungkwan requested that staff distribute water to fans who had been waiting in the sun for hours. Although he wasn’t feeling well himself—a fact that fans learned later when he had to leave the stage midway through the show—he prioritized CARATs’ welfare. Meanwhile, Hoshi took measures to cool down the fans by splashing water on them.

The main event

Later, during the main event, Hoshi was shocked to learn that fans didn’t have easy access to water. The situation took a serious turn when a fan fainted during the concert. The members immediately sprang into action, with Joshua calling for help and the group distributing water bottles from the stage. They also urged CARATs to spread out to ease the crowded conditions, demonstrating their ongoing concern for the audience’s wellbeing.

Finally, a row of seats sustained significant damage, yet there was no acknowledgment or response from Live Nation PH. Notably, all these incidents occurred on the first day of the two-day event.

While the chance to see SEVENTEEN live was a dream come true for many, the experience was severely marred by Live Nation PH’s shortcomings in ensuring safety and managing the event. These organizational failures underscore the need for improved planning in future events. – K-Pop News Writer

SEVENTEEN’s DK and Hoshi Swap Toothbrushes on ‘NANA Tour’

On January 10, the second episode of the travel series NANA Tour with SEVENTEEN premiered. This show is a collaboration between The Game Caterers producer Na Young-suk and Youth Over Flowers producer Shin Ho-jung. It features the members of SEVENTEEN—minus leader S.Coups, as he was on hiatus at the time of filming—as the main cast.

The toothbrush mix-up

The episode began with the group’s arrival in Italy, where they moved into small rooms with bunk beds. DK, Hoshi, Joshua, and Mingyu found themselves sharing one of these rooms. Everything appeared to be going smoothly until a surprising incident the next morning: Hoshi discovered that DK had used his toothbrush.

At first, DK didn’t realize the mix-up but acknowledged the mistake upon finding his toothbrush in his drawer. In lieu of an apology, DK offered his unused toothbrush to Hoshi. Surprisingly, Hoshi accepted this offer without any reservations and casually asked if he had any toothpaste to share. This exchange, involving a highly personal item like a toothbrush, left fans both amused and shocked at their nonchalant attitude. Even Joshua, witnessing this exchange, was visibly surprised by their approach to the situation.

DK, noticing Joshua’s astonishment, tried to ease the tension with a lighthearted comment. “What?! We’re family! Who cares?!” he said with a laugh. This incident not only showcased the strong bond between the members but also became a topic of conversation among fans, highlighting the deep camaraderie within the group.

SEVENTEEN explored Italy like tourists

Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time DK was involved in a toothbrush mix-up. He previously used Mingyu’s toothbrush in a special version of their dance practice video for “Home.” This video was as a token of appreciation when the song’s official MV reached 17 million views on YouTube.

Apart from the toothbrush incident, the show’s second episode was a hit for other reasons. Fans enjoyed seeing the members explore Italy like tourists. The segment where SEVENTEEN played games to win money for their trip also received a positive reception.

Watch: Seventeen Dino’s Character Pi Cheolin Debuts at Golden Disc Awards

From being a nosy old man to becoming BOMG’s CEO, Pi Cheolin has finally made his debut as a performer!

At the 38th Golden Disc Awards held in Indonesia on Saturday, January 6, K-Pop fans witnessed an entertaining performance as Dino of the boy group SEVENTEEN, brought his fictional character Pi Cheolin on the BooSeokSoon stage.

During the ceremony, SEVENTEEN’s subunit BooSeokSoon (BSS), composed of members Seungkwan, Dokyeom and Hoshi, performed a new rendition of their track Fighting.” Originally featuring rapper Lee Young Ji, the trio surprised fans as they brought Dino, in his Pi Cheolin persona in particular, to cover her rap parts.

For those who don’t know, Pi Cheolin is Dino’s portrayal of a nosy old man. It started off as an inside joke from a previous Carat Land fan meeting and has become a well-loved character in the fandom.

Recently, during SEVENTEEN’s “God of Music” comeback, Pi Cheolin returned as the CEO of BOMG, another comedy stint by the 13-member group. Notably, it was through this skit that the group birthed the trot parody single “God of Light Music.”

CARATs’ reaction to “debut” of Pi Cheolin

On social media, Carats, SEVENTEEN’s fanbase, immediately expressed their surprise to see Pi Cheolin with the subunit. “Truly an iconic stage,” one fan wrote.

Other fans, meanwhile, applauded Dino’s versatility and professionalism as he stayed in character for the whole performance. Moreover, fans also said that there is no other group as committed to their inside jokes as SEVENTEEN.

Furthermore, several clips of the SEVENTEEN members’ reactions also went viral upon the appearance of Pi Cheolin. Some fans pointed out that the members had no clue as well that they would see Dino’s old man character take over the stage.

SEVENTEEN’s wins at GDA

Aside from BSS and Dino bringing laughter to the audience, SEVENTEEN also performed their tracks “Super,” the Korean version of “Ima” and “God of Music” as a whole group.

In addition to their stellar performances, the 13-piece act had one more thing to celebrate. During the GDA awarding ceremony, SEVENTEEN took home the Grand Prize for the Album of the Year for their 10th EP FML. On the other hand, BooSeokSoon, bagged the Best Digital Song Award for the track “Fighting.”

SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu Recalls Losing His Passport Before ‘Nana Tour’ Filming

SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu recently shared an amusing yet chaotic story that occurred just before the filming of the reality show NANA TOUR with SEVENTEEN. As the group’s fans are aware, Mingyu had a panic-inducing moment when he lost his passport, sparking a frantic search at the airport.

Mingyu disclosed an intriguing twist

The drama unfolded as SEVENTEEN arrived at the airport to depart for Italy, where they were set to film the show. It was while they were heading towards immigration that Mingyu realized his passport was missing. He immediately sat down and made urgent phone calls to various contacts for assistance. At the same time, Na Young-seok, the show’s Producing Director (PD), quickly mobilized the fans present to join in the search for the missing passport. After an intense ten minutes, the passport was found with a staff member, enabling Mingyu to successfully board the plane.

This incident was later brought up at a press conference for the show. It was held at the Eliena Hotel in Gangnam, Seoul. It was here that Mingyu disclosed an intriguing twist: his bandmate DK was the mastermind behind the incident, having decided to play a prank on him.

He shared, “I lost my passport from the first day. I was looking for my passport until just before the flight. Even the fans at the airport helped me, but I couldn’t find it. It turned out that DK had taken my passport and boarded the plane. And he took my plane ticket too. But in the end, I was able to board the plane after a lot of twists and turns. Fans also shared videos with the video PDs, so you can feel the desperation and urgency at the time.”

A promising start

DK was seated next to Mingyu at the press conference, where Mingyu affectionately gestured towards DK, playfully exposing him as the prankster by touching his shoulder. DK responded with a mischievous smile, eliciting laughter from everyone present. This playful interaction underscored the group’s fun-loving and lighthearted nature.

SEVENTEEN is renowned in the K-pop world not only for their music but also for their unique comedic flair. They frequently engage in hilarious challenges and pranks, both in interviews and on their variety show, Going SEVENTEEN. Their carefree and unfiltered approach to life has endeared them to both fans and non-fans alike.

NANA TOUR with SEVENTEEN, which debuted on January 5, started strong with a 2.1% viewership rating for its first episode. Considering it’s on a cable channel, this rating is quite respectable. The show aims to hit a 3% rating, similar to Earth Arcade Season 1, another show by the same producer, which began at 2.2% and reached 3.1%. Generally, for cable variety shows, achieving ratings between 2-4% is seen as successful, indicating a promising start for NANA TOUR with SEVENTEEN. – K-Pop News Writer
