SM Entertainment Issues Statement Regarding SHINee Taemin and Onew Signing With New Company

The news of SHINee’s Taemin and Onew’s impending contract expirations with SM Entertainment has sent shockwaves through the K-pop community, sparking a flurry of speculation and anticipation regarding the future trajectory of these beloved artists’ careers. Now, the agency has issued a statement addressing the group members’ contracts.

SHINee’s Taemin and Onew Reportedly Leaving SM Entertainment

According to reports from reputable news outlets such as News1 and YTN, Taemin’s exclusive contract with SM Entertainment is set to conclude by the end of the month, also marking a significant milestone in his professional journey. While the details of his future plans remain shrouded in mystery, sources suggest that Taemin will continue his solo endeavors under the auspices of a new agency, while maintaining his group activities with SHINee under SM Entertainment’s management.

Meanwhile, industry insiders have also hinted at Onew’s impending departure from SM Entertainment, with reports indicating that his exclusive contract is also slated to conclude in the first half of the year. With both Taemin and Onew poised to embark on new chapters in their careers, fans are also eagerly awaiting further announcements regarding their future affiliations and projects.

In a surprising turn of events, SPOTV News has reported that Taemin is in talks to sign with Big Planet Made Entertainment, adding an unexpected twist to the unfolding narrative. However, representatives from the agency have also remained tight-lipped about the potential recruitment, refraining from divulging any concrete details or confirming the speculation.

SM Entertainment Addresses SHINee Contract Renewal

It didn’t take long before SM Ent decided to address the news. In an official statement, the company confirmed that group activities will continue.

“SHINee’s activities will continue at SM Entertainment without change, and contracts for individual activities will be decided according to each member’s wishes.”

“We are positively discussing with Minho and Key about not only group activities but also individual activities, and Onew is exploring various options. Our exclusive contract with Taemin expires in March. Taemin’s next course of action following his contract expiration has not been confirmed yet, and we heard that he is considering various options.”

The prospect of Taemin and Onew parting ways with SM Entertainment after 16 years of collaboration marks a significant milestone in their respective journeys as artists. Since their debut as members of SHINee in 2008, the duo has also played an integral role in shaping the landscape of K-pop, delighting fans with their chart-topping hits and captivating performances.

SHINee’s Taemin to Make Solo Comeback With ‘Guilty’

Mark your calendars, SHAWOLs! Taemin of K-pop boy group SHINee is making his first solo comeback in over two years with his fourth mini-album Guilty.

On Tuesday, October 10, the group released a poster announcing Taemin’s solo return. In the photo, a person’s feet is standing next to what appears to be a white shirt on the ground. 

Notably, the poster revealed that Guilty will be released on October 30. Moreover, the mini-album will reportedly contain six songs.

Other details such as its track list and concept have yet to be disclosed. 

Soloist Taemin is back!

Following the news, fans couldn’t contain their excitement as it’s been awhile since Taemin released a solo music. For those unfamiliar, his last solo comeback was in May 2021 for the EP Advice

Shortly after the release of the mini-album, Taemin enlisted in the military.

In January 2022, the SHINee member was transferred from the military band to supplementary public service. According to SM Entertainment, it was because the idol had “worsening symptoms of depression and anxiety.” However, at the time, the agency was quick to assure fans that he’s receiving treatment and therapy in the military. 

In April 2023, he was discharged from the military. Among the SHINee members, Taemin was the last to complete his service. 

As for his career as a soloist, he made his solo debut in August 2014 through the album Ace. Since then, he has had many hit singles such as Move,” “Criminal,” and “Danger.” 

SHINee’s year for 2023

Aside from all SHINee members completing their service, 2023 also saw the 15th debut anniversary of the group. 

To celebrate, the group released their eight full-album Hard in June 2023. It served as the group’s first new music in over two years, following their April 2021 repackaged album Atlantis.

Moreover, the group will also be marking their anniversary with the release of their documentary My SHInee World. Said film is expected to premiere in November. 

Managed by SM Entertainment, SHINee made their debut in May 2008 with the extended play Replay. Initially a five-member group, vocalist Jonghyun passed away in December 2017. 

Throughout their career, the boy group has been collecting masterpieces in their discography. The list includes “Ring Ding Dong”, “Lucifer”, “Sherlock”, among many others. 

Recently, Key confirmed that all four members of SHINee renewed their third contract with SM Entertainment.

SHINee’s Key and Taemin Apologize for Commenting on Minho’s Skin Tone

SHINee’s Key, Taemin, along with the content production team at PRISM Production Center, have released apologies in response to the controversy surrounding their alleged insensitive remarks about Minho’s skin tone. The incident occurred in a video that was subsequently removed from SHINee’s YouTube channel.

During the deleted clip, Key, Taemin, and Minho engaged in a conversation about Minho’s skin tone, which has since been criticized as problematic by many viewers. Recognizing the hurt and offense caused by their comments, Key, Taemin, and the PRISM Production Center also deeply regret their insensitivity. They understand the importance of promoting inclusivity and respect for all skin tones and backgrounds. The group and production team have pledged to learn from this incident and take steps to educate themselves on these issues.

SHINee’s Key, Taemin, and the PRISM Production Center are committed to fostering a more inclusive and understanding community, and they also sincerely apologize to those who were affected by their remarks.

“I deeply apologize for my insensitive remarks in the recent content, and I have spent a lot of time reflecting on feedback from the fans who were disappointed by my comment,” Key wrote. “I will be more careful to make sure that my words and actions are more considerate moving forward.”

“My sincerest apologies for any discomfort and hurt caused by my inappropriate remarks in the recent content,” Taemin wrote. “Thanks to our fans, I fully understand why the comments I made were disrespectul, and I will make a more diligent effort to be careful with my behavior and words in the future.”

PRISM Production Center also assured that the clip has been removed and that Key and Taemin regret their comments. “Moving forward, we will be more cautious and attentive to prevent recurrence,” they wrote in their statement.

In related news, Minho recently went viral for his mesmerizing lip-sync performance to DynamicDuo and DJ Premier’s “AEAO.”

SHINee’s Movie ‘My SHINee World’ to Be Released on November

Get ready, Shawols! SHINee’s back… in the theaters soon through their documentary film titled MY SHINee WORLD. 

On Monday, September 25, SM Entertainment announced that MY SHINee WORLD, SHINee’s 15th anniversary film, will be released on November 3.

Said film, which was initially set to grace the screens this September, was moved to a later date to enhance the overall completeness of the film.

A Glimpse of MY SHINee WORLD

According to SM Entertainment, MY SHINee WORLD will embody the shining moments of the group and its fandom, Shawols, throughout the last 15 years. 

Moreover, the special film will feature the group’s footsteps through a series of undisclosed content. Which includes thrilling scenes from six of SHINee’s solo concert shows since debut.

In addition, the featured moments will also be presented through various angles and delicate editing. With the use of Dolby Atmos technology, the film aims to provide vivid sounds that will remind the audience of the actual performances.

To appease fans for the changes in release schedule, the agency unveiled a teaser poster on SHINee’s official social media accounts. The poster featured Key, Minho, Onew, Taemin and Jonghyun conquering the stage under the spotlight.

 

15 years with SHINee

Known as the “Princes of K-Pop”, SHINee debuted in May 2008 with their hit single “Replay.” 

Throughout their career, the boy group has been collecting masterpieces in their discography. The list includes “Ring Ding Dong”, “Lucifer”, “Sherlock”, among many others. Unsurprisingly, SHINee became one of the longest-running and most beloved K-Pop acts in the world.

However, in December 2017, the industry was appalled with the sudden news of Jonghyun’s death. Since then, SHINee continued to perform as a four-member group. 

In 2023, SHINee marked their 15th debut anniversary. To celebrate this feat, the multi-talented group has been treating fans with exciting events, including thrilling concerts and “The Moment of Shine pop-up store.

Among these events, Shawols were most delighted with the release of the group’s eight full-length album Hard. The album served as SHINee’s first comeback in more than two years, following the release of Atlantis in 2021.

Recently, Key confirmed that all four members of SHINee renewed their third contract with SM Entertainment.

SHINee’s Taemin Pays Tribute To Moonbin in Emotional Post

Taemin is paying tribute to the late Moon Bin. The SHINee maknae shared a short but emotional message for the late ASTRO member. The message happens to be the perfect tribute to the young idol.

The sudden passing of Moonbin left people stunned and several South Korean personalities have expressed their sympathy to his family, friends, and fans. It didn’t take long before Taemin himself learned about the news and immediately posted a tribute of his own.

Lee Tae-min shared the message as an Instagram Story on his official social media account. Although the message doesn’t mention Moonbin, it is clear that the SHINee singer posted the message for him.

“I remember seeing you shining on stage. I hope you’re happy there, just as you’ve always been sparkling,” Taemin wrote.

Netizens were moved by his words and began resharing the message on social media. Both SHINee and ASTRO fans loved how Taemin’s message paid tribute to Moonbin. The hopeful message resonated with everyone since it was hopeful and bright.

Taemin’s post was a welcome one considering he is someone who understands the pain of losing someone. The members of SHINee also dealt with the loss of a fellow member when Jonghyun died in 2017. The main vocalists’ passing was sudden and a complete shock to the K-pop industry.

Moonbin’s body was found in his apartment in Gangnam on April 19, 2023, at 8:10 PM KST. The cause of death is still under investigation.

The remaining members of ASTRO are attending Moonbin’s wake with the rest of his family. JinJin and Sanha were the first members to arrive at the site. Fellow member MJ, who is undergoing basic training for military service, filed for emergency leave so he could attend with the other idols. Cha Eun Woo is currently out of the country but has flown back to Seoul to attend the funeral.
