WEi’s Yongha Under Fire for Cosplaying ‘Made in Abyss’ Character

WEi’s Yongha is the latest male idol to face criticism for watching and recommending the controversial anime “Made In Abyss.” The idol not only recommended the anime to fans but also shocked them by cosplaying as one of the show’s characters, Reg, during a face-to-face fansign.

WEi Member Yongha Under Fire for Cosplaying as Reg from ‘Made in Abyss’

Yongha had previously confirmed on Bubble that he had been watching “Made in Abyss” and even stated that it was “fun.” Since then, fans have gone out of their way to please the WEi member. Videos circulating online show Yongha cosplaying in the distinctive black helmet and red cape worn by Reg, raising questions about the idol’s judgment and responsibility to his audience. The costume had been presented by a fan who heard him mention the anime and decided to bring them for the idol at the fansign.

“Made In Abyss,” created by Akihito Tsukushi, has faced backlash for its graphic violence and content that raises concerns about child exploitation. The anime follows the story of a young girl, Riku, and her companion, Reg, as they explore the treacherous pit known as the Abyss. The series has been praised for its fantasy and adventure elements. However, it has also been criticized for scenes depicting torture, nudity, and provocative clothing involving underage characters.

The controversy resurfaces as fans uncover instances of male idols expressing their fondness for the series. Previously, TXT’s Soobin openly shared his enjoyment of the anime, and NCT 127’s Taeyong endorsed the manga version, known for its explicit content. The controversy raises questions about the influence idols have over their audience and their responsibility when endorsing or promoting content that may be deemed inappropriate or controversial.

“Made in Abyss” was recently renewed for a third season but has not yet been given a new release date.
