BABYMONSTER Breaks Records With ‘Batter Up’ Debut

The latest addition to YG Entertainment‘s roster, the girl group BABYMONSTER, is off to a remarkable start, setting numerous records with their debut single, “Batter Up.”

According to YG Entertainment, the music video for “Batter Up.” surpassed an impressive 22.59 million views within the initial 24 hours of its release on November 27. Notably, this marked a groundbreaking achievement as the highest debut MV views in K-pop history within the first day.

Beyond YouTube, BABYMONSTER is also gaining global recognition across various platforms. Since the release of their debut single, it has already charted on prominent local streaming sites like Japan’s Line Music andChina’s QQ Music.  Additionally, the group has steadily climbed the iTunes charts, securing the number one position in 21 countries.

But the records didn’t stop there. As of Friday, December 1, YG Entertainment proudly announced that BABYMONSTER‘s debut music video had surpassed a remarkable 50 million views on YouTube at 7:48 a.m. KST.

What makes this feat remarkable is the rookie group achieved the 50 million milestone in just under 4 days and 8 hours. With this, they’re setting a new record for the fastest K-pop group debut music video to reach this mark.

To note, the achievement surpassed the previous record held by aespa’s “Black Mamba,” which took about 5 days and 23 hours in 2020.

What’s next for BABYMONSTER?

For fans, the series of achievements no longer came as a surprise. As prior to their official debut, BABYMONSTER had already garnered a substantial social media following. Aside from that, the group holds significance for YG Entertainment as it’s the agency’s first girl group since the debut of BLACKPINK in 2016.

All of these factors led to the group gaining attention even if YG Entertainment announced the departure of Ahyeon from the act. With that, only Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Haram, Rora, and Chiquita debuted with the group.

Despite these milestones within their debut, fans are left perplexed as YG Entertainment confirmed that BABYMONSTER will not be participating in music show appearances. This decision has raised questions about the group’s promotional strategy as fans had been eagerly anticipating seeing the group’s performances live.

Moreover, the agency also has yet to announce other activities for them, leaving fans waiting on where to watch the group next.
