Acclaimed director Bong Joon Ho has once again proven his global influence, as his latest film “Mickey 17” dominated the North American box office in its opening weekend! It’s an amazing feat that can only be achieved by someone like the “Parasite” director!

Bong Joon Ho’s “Mickey 17” Makes History by Debuting at No. 1 in North American Box Office

On March 9 (local time), it was reported that “Mickey 17”, which premiered on March 7 in the United States, was projected to earn $19.1 million by the end of its opening weekend. When factoring in earnings from international markets, the film has already grossed an impressive $53.3 million worldwide.

With this milestone, Bong Joon Ho has become the first Korean film director in history to reach No. 1 at the North American box office—a remarkable achievement that further cements his legacy in global cinema.

Outside of North America, “Mickey 17” has seen particularly strong performances in South Korea, where it premiered earlier on February 28 and raked in $9 million in its first week. Other top-performing regions include France ($2.9 million so far) and the United Kingdom ($2.7 million).

Starring Robert Pattinson, “Mickey 17” is a sci-fi thriller based on the novel “Mickey 17” by Edward Ashton. The story follows a disposable employee on a space expedition who is presumed dead—only to return and uncover a shocking mystery.

Given Bong Joon Ho’s track record of delivering thought-provoking and visually stunning films—including his Oscar-winning masterpiece “Parasite”—fans and critics alike have been eagerly anticipating his latest project.

With its strong opening and global appeal, “Mickey 17” is set to continue making waves at the box office in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Bong Joon Ho on yet another historic achievement!
