South Korean Military Cancels j-hope’s Appearance at Culinary Event

The South Korean military decided not to have BTS member Jung Hoseok, aka j-hope, attend a big cooking competition.

The Ministry of National Defense recently revealed that j-hope was supposed to host the International Military Culinary Competition. This event is a big deal, with people from countries like Singapore and the USA taking part. Organizers thought having a superstar like j-hope there would get the event more attention.

When talks began, the BTS member expressed interest in participating. Additionally, the military made a tentative agreement with BTS‘s agency, BigHit Music, for j-hope to simply host the event, without performing. Discussions on what he would wear and such were also underway. The Defense Media Agency even considered promoting the event using BTS-related video content.

For j-hope, it’s service over celebrity

However, the Minister of National Defense, Shin Won-sik, had second thoughts. Eventually, it was decided that it would be more appropriate for the members to demonstrate their dedication to their duties in uniform, as soldiers, rather than as celebrities. This decision was made to maintain the integrity of BTS’s stance on serving like anyone else. Before enlisting, the members had made it clear that they wanted to be treated like regular soldiers. This included not being featured or included in military-related events, despite their fame.

Luckily, BigHit Music understood this decision. While the military staff preparing for the event were disappointed, they also understood how the agency and the military leadership felt.

@ntrgrl22

That time the Korean military considered using #JHope as an MC for a military cooking competition but it was vetoed because they knew KDiamonds would band together in protest. #ARMY doesn’t play when it comes to our guys, BTS. #junghoseokbts #JungHoseok #BTSARMY #kdiamond Now no idol can be used outside of their military specialty.

Jin, the eldest member of BTS, enlisted in December 2022, followed by j-hope this April. Both are serving diligently as instructors and special forces soldiers at the recruit training center. SUGA began his service in September with minimal media attention. Previously, the military considered inviting Jin and j-hope to a professional baseball game but ultimately decided against it to avoid placing undue pressure on the members.

Wanting to serve without the trappings of fame is a testament to BTS‘s dedication to their roles as soldiers. It shows a humility that resonates with both their fans and the general public. As the military and BTS continue to navigate the balance between duty and stardom, this decision stands as a poignant reminder of their resolve to prioritize service over celebrity. – K-Pop News Writer

GOT7’s BamBam Asks Agency To Take Action Against Haters

BamBam of K-pop group GOT7 has had enough of the online hate he’s receiving and has demanded his agency, ABYSS, to seek a proper resolution about it.

In a series of X (formerly Twitter) posts, the Thai rapper has lamented on the mounting criticism and false reports against him. Moreover, he confronted those circulating “fake news” and engaging in online hate directed at him.

Following the online attacks he’s getting, BamBam has expressed his frustration towards his agency ABYSS on not having taken a proper action to protect him from this hate.

“Can you really do something about these people talking shit about me and [making] fake news,” the idol said, tagging his agency’s account. “I’m for real sick of it and can’t take it anymore. Whoever [has] a problem with me, [you all] wait for the last episode.”

In a follow-up tweet, he also hinted at a potential legal action against those responsible for spreading false information or engaging in hate speech, regardless of their location. “[I’m going to] do my best to get you. Let’s see what happens,” he promised.

As of now, ABYSS has yet to issue a statement on BamBam’s situation. But it can be recalled that in April, they already announced that they’re planning to pursue legal action against those who are responsible for the malicious comments directed at their artist. However, there remains no development about it yet.

BamBam and his struggle with online hate

2023 had been a tough year for the GOT7 member as he’s been hounded by harsh criticisms from other K-pop fans. Despite his intent to create a light and fun atmosphere in interviews, some fans were taking his statements negatively. Which results in him being on the receiving end of hate.

For this year, he got embroiled in controversy when he mentioned NewJeans’ Haerin and Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon in his interviews. While both happened in several accounts, fans of the two artists were criticizing BamBam’s appreciation towards his fellow idols.

Moreover, what prompted his tirade on social media was his recent interview with NCT’s Ten in his online series Bam’s House. In that particular episode, fans were claiming that BamBam made Ten uncomfortable.

In a live stream in May, he already told his haters to leave him alone. “If [you all are] not gonna support [me], just back off,” he said.

Following BamBam’s social media posts, his fans couldn’t help but defend him, saying that other fans were just twisting his words and actions out of context. Meanwhile, others are also concerned at how the issues have been affecting him, demanding that ABYSS should do more to protect their artist.
