He claims to be repaying the debt steadily each month, with the intention of settling it in full. However, it was reported that the total debt amounts to hundreds of millions of won, affecting not just Jimin but also celebrities like Lee Soo Geun, Young Tak, Ha Sung Woon, and various broadcasting executives, producers, and writers.

Some of these individuals reportedly lent money to Lee without a promissory note, making them vulnerable to tax penalties. Since these transactions were classified as “gifts” rather than loans, they now face potential tax liabilities. In light of the situation, several celebrities have reportedly chosen to file fraud charges against the comedian, aiming to seize his appearance fees to recover their losses.

BIGHIT MUSIC Addresses Debt Issue

In Jimin’s case, the comedian approached him in 2022, requesting to borrow 100 million won (approximately $73,600) for a week, claiming urgent need. Despite signing a promissory note, Lee failed to repay the loan within the agreed time frame. As reported, Jimin concluded that Lee had no genuine intention of repaying the money and, in a gesture of leniency, told him to “just pay me back within 10 years.”

BIGHIT MUSIC confirmed the situation, stating, “It is indeed true that financial losses have occurred [to Jimin]. He lent money with a signed promissory note.”

Following the controversy, Lee Jin Ho has stepped down from his role on JTBC’s popular variety show “Knowing Bros” (also known as “Ask Us Anything”). Additionally, he did not attend the press conference for Netflix’s variety show “Comedy Revenge”, which was scheduled for the morning of October 14. ENHYPEN also kicked off their third world tour “WALK THE LINE”, with two electrifying concerts on October 5 and 6 at Goyang Stadium in Korea. On October 12, singer Jessi issued an official apology regarding an assault incident involving a male fan. Jessi addressed the matter through her Instagram account, expressing regret over the situation that occurred on September 29, 2024 (KST).

“Recently, during a private gathering with acquaintances, a fan requested a photo. However, because it was late at night, I politely declined twice. At that moment, a nearby individual whom I had seen that night for the first time suddenly assaulted the fan. Because I also was too shocked by the sudden turn of events, I was not able to show my consideration toward the fan. 

“Irrespective of the exact details of the incident, I express immense regret that the victim suffered from such an act of injustice, and I feel morally responsible. Soon after the incident, my label and I contacted the mother of the victim, and we are currently working to ensure that the victim finds the culprit and receives a proper apology and due compensation, and that the victim faces proper punishment.”

What Happened?

The incident took place when an 18-year-old fan approached Jessi for a photo while she was in Apgujeong. According to a report, the fan saw Jessi while walking to a convenience store and politely asked for a picture with her. CCTV footage showed that a man from Jessi’s group intervened and reportedly swore at the fan in English. Jessi herself declined the fan’s request for a photo and apologized.

The fan also apologized and began to leave when another man from the group unexpectedly punched and kicked him. As the fan sought police assistance, Jessi’s group reportedly left the scene. The police, alongside the fan, eventually located the group, who denied knowing the fan.

The situation escalated when the fan’s mother visited Jessi’s agency to demand accountability. Jessi’s agency reportedly told her that the attacker was a Chinese national who was not directly associated with Jessi, but was a friend of a producer. Subsequently, the victim formally reported the perpetrator to the police.

Jessi’s agency later clarified that she had no direct involvement in the assault and that they would cooperate with authorities to help locate the perpetrator. Jessi expressed her deep apologies over the situation, although she was not personally involved in the attack, and vowed to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
