On March 9, the Korean Film Council reported that as of 11:33 a.m. KST, “Mickey 17” had officially surpassed 2,001,220 moviegoers. The film achieved this impressive milestone in less than 10 days, making it the fastest film released in 2025 to reach the two-million mark.
Since its premiere in Korea on February 28, “Mickey 17” has maintained its No. 1 position at the box office for nine consecutive days, showcasing its strong momentum and widespread audience appeal.
Directed by Bong Joon Ho, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker behind “Parasite”, “Mickey 17” is a science fiction black comedy starring Robert Pattinson. The film follows Mickey Barnes, an “expendable” clone worker assigned to dangerous tasks on a space mission. Each time he dies, a new cloned body is regenerated to replace him. However, when one of his clones, “Mickey 17,” is mistakenly presumed dead, an unexpected crisis unfolds.
The project also stars Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, and Steven Yeun. It is an adaptation of the Edward Ashton novel “Mickey7”, which was released in 2022. News of Collette’s casting were also initially believed to be an English-language remake of Bong’s wildly popular movie “Parasite” but has since been confirmed to be a completely different project.
With its intriguing concept, gripping storytelling, and Bong Joon Ho’s masterful direction, “Mickey 17” has also captivated audiences and continues to draw moviegoers in large numbers.
Congratulations to the cast and crew of the new blockbuster!
