BTS’s Jimin Enters ‘Hometown Love Donation Project’ Hall of Fame

On February 22, 2024, the South Korean media outlet Busan Ilbo shared a heartwarming story. BTS member Jimin was inducted into the Hall of Fame as one of the major donors to the Hometown Love Donation project in Nam-gu, a district in the South Central part of Busan. This acknowledgment reflects Jimin’s long-standing commitment to philanthropy. Over the years, the idol has worked to uplift needy children and support various charitable causes.

He donated 3,766.08 USD (approximately 5,015,514.70 KRW) to the Hometown Love Donation project, which encourages donations to local governments beyond one’s own. It fosters community support across different regions. By donating the maximum amount an individual can contribute, Jimin demonstrated his dedication to making a positive impact. His contribution to Nam-gu, where his father’s cafe MAGNATE is located, further strengthens his ties to his hometown.

In recognition of his generous donations aimed at uplifting vulnerable sections of society and nurturing local communities and youth, Jimin was listed in the Hall of Fame for Major Donors on the district’s website. He also received a Plaque of Appreciation in August 2023. Demonstrating his humility, when Jimin received local specialties in return for his contributions, he chose to donate them to needy people in the district instead.

Fans called Jimin an ‘angel’

The Nam-gu office revealed that over 1,000 people have contributed to the Hometown Love Donation program, amassing over 110.95 million KRW (83,298.93 USD) so far. News of Jimin’s good deeds quickly spread, with ARMYs taking to social media to celebrate his kindness. They referred to the “Like Crazy” singer as an “angel” and expressed admiration for his actions.

In addition to his philanthropic achievements, Jimin finished basic military training with flying colors. He’s currently serving in the 5th Infantry Division alongside fellow BTS member Jungkook. They signed up for the South Korean military’s “동반입대” (dongbanipdae) or buddy system. This program allows soldiers to enlist and train with close friends or relatives. They can also live in the same residential unit. Both will return to the entertainment industry in 2025.

Jimin’s actions inspired not only his fans but also the wider community, proving that kindness and generosity can indeed leave a lasting impact. – K-Pop News Writer

Jimin’s ‘Serendipity’ Surpasses 400M Combined Streams on Spotify

Jimin’s solo song “Serendipity” continues to capture hearts—and ears—worldwide. Released in 2018 as part of the BTS album Love Yourself: Answer, its full version exceeded 270 million streams on Spotify last February 22. Remarkably, both versions of the song have garnered hundreds of millions of streams. “Intro: Serendipity,” released the year before as part of the Love Yourself: Her album, has over 130 million streams to date. Across both versions, it has surpassed 400 million streams.

BTS (방탄소년단) LOVE YOURSELF 承 Her ‘Serendipity’ Comeback Trailer

“Serendipity” is just one of many songs by Jimin that have done well on Spotify. “Lie” and “Filter” have 235 million and 420 million streams, respectively. Additionally, “Like Crazy” (the title track of his debut solo album) reached 880 million streams for the Korean version and 305 million for the English version. “Set Me Free Pt.2” has achieved 280 million streams. This brings his total to six solo songs that have exceeded the 200 million mark.

Beyond Spotify, “Serendipity” is also popular on the global music search platform Shazam. The intro version has garnered 400,000 Shazams, and the full version, 150,000. This comes as no surprise given how the song blends delicate, electronic-tinged R&B with Jimin’s airy vocals. Critics and fans alike have heaped praise on the track, describing it as both sensual and comforting. Its gender-neutral lyrics are about pursuing dreams, discovering one’s identity, purpose, and experiencing true love.

Serendipity (Full Length Edition)

Jimin has set a meaningful record

Many have said that Jimin looks like The Little Prince in the official music video for “Serendipity.” Directed by Choi Yongseok and Lee Wonju of Lumpens, and choreographed by Brian Puspos—who collaborated with BTS on “Butterfly”—the video has made significant strides. On YouTube, it’s the 19th BTS video to go viral. It’s also the first solo track by a BTS member to surpass 100 million views, currently boasting 177 million views.

BTS Jimin – Serendipity [2018 KBS Song Festival / 2018.12.28

Furthermore, the full version of “Serendipity,” along with “Lie” and “Filter,” has achieved significant sales milestones in the United States. Each has sold over 500,000 units. This makes Jimin the first Korean soloist to have all his solo tracks from group albums receive Gold certification from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). Additionally, Jimin has set a meaningful record by being the only member to have all three solo songs enter the Top 40 BTS Songs as selected by the UK’s Official Charts.

Congratulations, Jimin! – K-Pop News Writer

BTS’s Jimin Will Grace the March 2024 Cover of Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam

BTS’s Jimin has been announced as the cover star for the March 2024 issue of Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam. The fashion magazine made the announcement on its official Instagram. One of the cover blurbs highlighted the K-pop idol’s thoughts on accessories. “Accessories possess the remarkable ability to uplift my spirits,” he shared.

The interview and photoshoot were done before he joined the South Korean military on December 12, 2023, alongside fellow BTS member Jungkook. They enlisted together under the “동반입대” (dongbanipdae) or buddy system. This program allows them to enlist, train, and live together for the duration of their service.

In one of the photos—which Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam chose for the cover—Jimin wore a Dior jacket and dress pants. He also donned bracelets, necklaces, and rings from Tiffany & Co.’s Tiffany Lock collection, which the brand debuted in August 2022. Padlocks, which have been a motif for the brand since the 1880s, inspired the collection. It features pieces made with highly polished 18-carat gold and hand-set pavé diamonds, symbolizing love and commitment.

In a subsequent Instagram post, Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam posted photos of Jimin clad in black and gray blazer suits, a blue and white striped shirt with blue checkered knitwear, and a bucket hat, all from Dior. He also wore pieces from Tiffany & Co.’s Tiffany HardWear and Tiffany T. collections. This collection finds its roots in a 1971 bracelet from Tiffany’s archives. It offers bold and expressive pieces that capture New York City’s spirited atmosphere. As for the Tiffany T collection, its designs are characterized by a sleek T motif inspired by the brand’s name.

Jimin and his stunning visuals

A final series of photos saw Jimin wearing Dior again. Two brooches from Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co., named “Paris Flame” and “Bird on a Rock,” complemented his clothes. The former has diamonds at the center, set in 18k yellow gold and platinum to resemble the way a flame flickers and moves.

The latter is one of the 21st century’s most iconic jewelry designs. This 18k yellow gold and platinum brooch had a diamond-encrusted bird on an emerald-cut tanzanite “rock.” It can also come with aquamarine, kunzite, morganite, spessartine, and tourmaline gemstones, available in cushion or oval cuts.

Styled by Kim Youngjin and captured by photographer Hong Jang-hyun, with hair by Dareum Kim and makeup by Hansom from Bit & Boot, this feature highlights Jimin‘s ability to navigate the realm of high fashion with ease.

Fans are excited for the release of Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam’s March 2024 issue. Not just because of Jimin and his stunning visuals, but also because the interview will give them greater insight into the BTS member’s journey as a style icon. – K-Pop News Writer

BTS’s Jimin’s TikTok Hashtag Exceeds 166 Billion Views

BTS’s Jimin has demonstrated his worldwide appeal once again by reaching a new TikTok milestone. His unique hashtag “#jimin” has surpassed an astonishing 166 billion views for a single mention as of February 14. This underscores the idol’s charm and the global impact of his music. It also serves as a clear indicator of the widespread love and support he enjoys from fans around the world.

230224 Jimin Dose – ‘Jimin-level popularity’ Jimin’s TikTok hashtag exceeds 166 billion views

Jimin’s solo song “Filter,” which appeared on BTS‘s fourth studio album, Map of the Soul: 7, is quite popular on TikTok. It has been used as background music over 397,700 times. This ranks it seventh overall and first among solo songs on BTS‘s official account. It is followed by some of the group’s songs, like “Permission to Dance,” “Fake Love,” and “Boy With Luv.”

Moreover, Jimin’s “Like Crazy”—the title track of his debut solo album FACE—was named the Song of March in TikTok’s 2023 K-pop mid-year summary. But that’s not all. From becoming the first song by a Korean soloist to hit No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, “Like Crazy” has also become a favorite on TikTok. As of February 18, 2024, it has been used in over 316,000 videos.

Everything Jimin touches turns to gold

It’s almost like everything Jimin touches turns to gold—on TikTok, at least. A BangBangCon promotional video he filmed and posted in 2020 has recorded the highest views for an individual on TikTok, with 130 million views and 13.81 million likes. Meanwhile, a video of Jimin dancing to BTS’s first English hit “Dynamite,” garnered significant attention as well. That video has 108.3 million views and 15.9 million likes as of this writing.

Normally, after achieving such success on TikTok, one might rush to create more content for the platform. However, Jimin can’t do that right now because he’s still serving in the South Korean military. He and fellow BTS member Jungkook enlisted together under the “동반입대” (dongbanipdae) or buddy system. This program allows them to enlist, train, and live together for the duration of their service. Maybe after they’re discharged, sometime in June 2025, they can make a TikTok video together.

Given Jimin’s current success on TikTok, he might break the platform once he’s able to post again. Until then, ARMYs worldwide are eagerly counting down the days till his return. – K-Pop News Writer

BTS’s Jimin Says He and Jungkook Are Doing Well in Latest Weverse Post

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, BTS‘s Jimin took time out from his military duties to connect with fans on Weverse. Aside from his group’s fearless leader RM, he was the only other member of BTS who was able to greet fans on this special occasion.

Jimin enlisted with fellow BTS member Jungkook on December 12, 2023. They signed up for the South Korean military’s “동반입대” (dongbanipdae) or buddy system. This unique program allows soldiers to enlist with close friends or relatives, receive training together, and be assigned to the same residential unit. In his message, the “Like Crazy” singer reassured fans that he and Jungkook are alright.

He wrote, “ARMYs, it’s Seollal! Have a happy Seollal, and this year too, be healthy and don’t get hurt or sick. I hope this year, you will only be happy. Eat lots of delicious things and don’t diet today.” This message not only updated fans on his and Jungkook‘s well-being but also encouraged them to enjoy the festivities without restraint.

Lunar New Year, or Seollal in Korea, is a cornerstone of Korean culture, emphasizing family bonds and cultural heritage. It falls on the first day of the lunar calendar, typically in late January or early February. Jimin made the effort to write to fans during Seollal while serving in the military. That he did so underscores how important the fans and their happiness are to him.

Get in touch with Jimin while he’s away

In related news, fans discovered that Jimin‘s father had installed a transparent letterbox outside Magnate, the café he runs in Busan. Fans used to visit the café and leave gifts and letters for the singer there, even before his enlistment. When Jimin’s father installed the letterbox, fans realized that it was his way of ensuring fans could still get in touch with Jimin while he’s away. What’s more, he would most likely be the one to deliver the letters in the letterbox to the idol. Not many parents or relatives of idols would do something like this, so they really appreciated the gesture.

Netizen Claims Jimin and Jungkook ‘Were Glued Together 24/7’

The K-pop world is abuzz with the latest news about BTS members Jimin and Jungkook. As all members of BTS are currently serving in the military, fans feel their absence deeply. Every update about the members is eagerly awaited, as it offers ARMYs a much-needed connection to their beloved idols. Recently, excitement surged among fans when a netizen claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that their friend’s son met Jimin and Jungkook while completing basic military training.

Their post read, “I heard a story about Jimin and Jungkook, albeit a bit late, from a family friend. According to her son, who trained with them at the military training center, Jimin and Jungkook were always seen together.”

X/@Jk_Jm_59_60

Further details from the netizen revealed that during a training session where the soldiers were made to race, Jimin performed so well that he came in third. Jungkook, however, couldn’t participate due to an injury. The netizen added that her friend’s son admired Jimin, as the idol was approachable and easygoing despite his superstar status. Reportedly, the “Closer Than This” hitmaker always had a smile on his face and was often the first to strike up conversations with his fellow soldiers. “Every time my friend’s son called home, he would always talk about ‘Jiminhyung.’ He was really fond of Jimin.”

Jimin and Jungkook are making the most of their time together

This isn’t the first time fans found proof that Jimin and Jungkook were attached at the hip during basic training. Before the military app The Camp was barred from using BTS members’ photos due to intellectual property rights issues, some photos surfaced on the app. These photos showed the two idols alongside other trainees, with Jungkook assigned number 59 and Jimin number 60. In some photos, Jimin is reading a training handbook, his number clearly displayed on his helmet. Other photos captured Jimin and Jungkook participating in various training exercises—dressed in military gear, holding guns, and marching.

Jimin’s Dior Campaign Surpasses 700M USD in Revenue

BTS’s Jimin significantly boosted Dior’s sales in South Korea since becoming one of the luxury fashion house’s global brand ambassadors on January 16, 2023. According to the South Korean business magazine Economist, Dior’s revenue in South Korea crossed 1 trillion KRW (about 746 million USD) by the end of that year. This marked the first time its annual sales soared past the 1 trillion KRW mark since Dior entered the South Korean market in 1997. It was a notable increase from less than 100 billion KRW in 2017.

A record high

This surge was somewhat expected, as Dior’s 2022 sales had already reached 930.5 billion KRW, a 52% increase from its 2021 sales, which were at 613.9 billion KRW. Dior’s operating profit also rose significantly during this period, going from 211.5 billion KRW to 323.8 billion KRW. It’s now the third global luxury brand to have crossed the 1 trillion KRW annual sales mark in South Korea, after Louis Vuitton and Chanel. Industry insiders say Dior celebrated this achievement by giving nearly all its employees bags from its own line. However, company management hasn’t confirmed this.

Jimin’s impact as Dior’s global brand ambassador is undeniable. The extensive campaign featuring him as the face of Dior Men’s Spring 2024 collection enjoyed widespread visibility, with fans documenting over 80 sightings of his ads worldwide. The campaign’s success was evident as the pieces he wore in the ads quickly sold out. Fans also snapped up other Dior items like bags and earrings. Remarkably, the hefty price tags didn’t deter ARMYs from showing support for Jimin and his new endorsement.

Speaking of prices, Dior’s stock price hit a record high of 789 EUR per share soon after he became an ambassador. His impact was also felt on social media—the hashtag #DIORxJIMIN and unboxing videos with Dior products went viral on various platforms. Additionally, the influencer marketing platform Lefty noted that two of the idol’s posts about Dior generated a media value of 17 million USD. Jimin was also the top influencer at the 2023/2024 Paris Fashion Week, contributing 54% to Dior’s Earned Media Value (EMV). Dior led the brand ranking with an EMV of 31.5 million USD.

The Jimin effect

Jimin’s impact went beyond advertising; he once sparked a new fashion trend among his followers involving Dior’s star tags. On November 23, he and his BTS bandmate Jungkook flew to Japan for work. At the airport, Jimin was seen wearing a beret cap, an oversized jacket, and Dior’s cross-body Hit the Road Bag with Strap. Fans noticed that there were two star-shaped charms hanging from the bag’s strap, adding a distinctive flair to it. This detail inspired fans to start collecting Dior star tags themselves, using them to decorate their bags as a way to express their love for Jimin.

That trip to Japan culminated in a memorable moment that further highlighted his influence. He posed for a photo in front of a Dior boutique, which fans later identified as the Ginza Six store in Tokyo. When he posted the photo on Instagram, it sparked a global movement of sorts. Fans worldwide embarked on a quest to find and pose for photos at Dior stores in their area, aiming to replicate Jimin’s iconic photo.

This phenomenon underscores the “Jimin effect”—his ability to turn everyday moments into trendsetting movements, significantly boosting Dior’s brand appeal and success. Given that, it’s safe to say 2023 wouldn’t have been a banner year for the brand if it weren’t for him. – K-Pop News Writer

Jimin and Jungkook Complete Basic Military Training

BTS’s Jimin and Jungkook have successfully completed their basic military training. They enlisted together under the buddy system in December last year. The completion ceremony, marking the end of their training, took place at the 5th Division’s Recruit Training Center on January 17.

X/@winnttaebear

Before the ceremony, Jimin wrote a heartfelt letter that was subsequently posted on Weverse. “A little over a month has passed. There are times when it feels like a long time, and there are times when it seems to go by quickly because Jungkook is next to me. It hasn’t been a long time but I already miss you a lot,” he began, addressing the fans.

“I say hello to the members on the pay phone, and Jungkook is also working hard in the military. He’s doing so well that the kids say, ‘As expected of Jungkookhyung.’ He sticks with me and gives me a lot of support and strength,” Jimin added. “I’ll be going to my assigned military base soon, and I’ll adjust and try to do my best. ARMYs, please be careful not to catch a cold, don’t get sick, eat well, and think only good thoughts. Anyway, I’ll write to you when I get to the base. I love you!”

X/@JJK_Times

Jungkook also updated fans after the completion ceremony simply by writing one word (“Unity!”) on Weverse. He dominated social media trends after this brief message, with fans expressing their joy and relief at seeing him complete basic training safely. Finally, Jimin’s father posted some photos from the completion ceremony on the Instagram page of his café. The photos came with a message for ARMY, in which Jimin expressed gratitude for their love and support.

What will Jimin and Jungkook do next?

During the ceremony, Jimin received a commendation from his division commander, a prestigious award given to the unit’s top trainee. This commendation includes benefits like an early promotion and five-day, four-night vacation. This achievement reflects his exceptional performance across various aspects of military training, including discipline, leadership skills, physical fitness, and tactical knowledge.

Both Jimin and Jungkook were initially assigned to the 5th Infantry Division, where fellow BTS member Jin is serving. However, after a more detailed second classification was conducted, Jimin and Jungkook were identified as suitable for a more specialized function and were reassigned to an artillery battalion. An artillery battalion uses large-caliber guns, howitzers, and mortars to launch powerful, long-range attacks against enemy forces and fortifications.

Jimin and Jungkook may end up operating the K55 or K9 self-propelled artillery pieces. The K55, a mobile howitzer with a 155mm cannon, offers rapid deployment and robust fire support. The more advanced K9 Thunder has greater range, firing rate, and mobility, among other enhancements. It was once used to fire warning rounds near the Northern Limit Line in response to North Korean provocations.

As they continue their service, away from the stage but ever-present in the hearts of the ARMY, Jimin and Jungkook are showing that they’re dedicated soldiers as well as talented musicians. Fans, though concerned for their safety, are proud of their achievements and await their musical comeback in 2025. – K-Pop News Writer
