MAMAMOO’s Solar Announces Solo Comeback with ‘WANT’ Teaser

On March 17 at midnight KST, MAMAMOO’s Solar thrilled fans by announcing her upcoming solo comeback next month. She will be dropping her second single album, “WANT,” on April 2, 2025.

This marks Solar’s first solo release in over two years since her first mini-album, “容: FACE” in 2022, which featured the powerful title track “HONEY”. Known for her strong vocals, charismatic stage presence, and unique concepts, anticipation is high for what Solar has in store with “WANT.”

Solar to Star in Upcoming Supernatural Thriller

In addition to her comeback, Solar has officially been cast in the highly anticipated supernatural horror film, “Gory: A Horror Tale.”

In November 2024, South Korea’s Acemaker Movieworks confirmed the production of “Gory: A Horror Tale,” directed by Hong Won-ki, who previously worked on the eerie Netflix horror series “Goedam” (2020). The film has already sparked excitement thanks to its intriguing premise and star-studded lineup which includes some of the industry’s most promising young celebrities.

The cast includes Solar, “Vincenzo” star Yoo Jae-myung, WJSN’s Bona, STAYC’s Bae Su-min, and Lovelyz member Seo Ji-soo.

With a mix of renowned actors and K-pop stars, fans are looking forward to on-screen chemistry, behind-the-scenes moments, and Solar’s transformation into a film actress. Although “Gory: A Horror Tale” has not yet been given an official release date, it is expected to premiere sometime in 2025. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

From her musical comeback to her acting debut, 2025 is already shaping up to be a massive year for Solar.

Look: MNET’s Survival Program ‘Build Up’ Reveals Judges

Get ready for an intense vocal battle! The official judging panel for MNET’s latest survival program Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survival has finally been revealed!

On Tuesday, December 12, MNET Korea confirmed Build Up’s judging lineup consisting of renowned singers Lee Seok Hoon, Baekho, BTOB’s Eunkwang, MAMAMOO’s Solar, and Red Velvet’s Wendy. 

With the program’s aim to bring together passionate singers regardless of genre, MNET has brought together the all-star panel to critique the contestants. “The strongest vocalists in the entertainment industry gathered together! Please look forward to the luxury judgment,” they captioned their post. 

Furthermore, the show’s production team also shared their excitement with the lineup. “It is an honor to invite these five people who are undisputed in terms of skills. We will show not only the chemistry of participants, but also the legendary vocal stages under their high-quality judgment,” they stated.

Meet the judges for ‘Build Up’

One of the confirmed judges is SG Wannabe’s Lee Seok Hoon. Known as a “vocal teacher of vocalists”, the singer has garnered praise from viewers for his expertise as a mentor on popular survival programs including Boys Planet. Said show ultimately created the well-loved rookie group ZEROBASEONE or ZB1.

Next in the lineup is renowned singer Eunkwang of the boy group BTOB. Aside from his vocal prowess, Eunkwang has also gained recognition as a producer in the survival show Mega Karaoke Survival VS.

Meanwhile, soloist Baekho (formerly from NU’EST), MAMAMOO’s Solar and Red Velvet’s Wendy  have all proven their vocal abilities as main vocalists of their respective groups. In the show, they are also challenged to share their expertise and sound judgment in the program.

Moreover, it was revealed that the program will have the talented actress Lee Da Hee as the sole emcee, which raised anticipation among viewers. To note, Da Hee has already established a reputable relationship with MNET. Previously, she hosted a number of the network’s shows including Queendom in 2019 and Road to Kingdom in 2022.

As of writing, MNET has yet to introduce the contestants participating in the show.  Build Up is scheduled to air in the first half of 2024, but final dates have yet to be announced. Stay tuned!

Solar and Moon Byul’s Subunit Confirms Comeback; Mamamoo to Release Concert Film

MOOMOOs have a lot of things to look forward to as K-pop girl group MAMAMOO will be releasing a documentary film and Solar and Moon Byul’s subunit will be making their comeback! 

MAMAMOO announced that their upcoming documentary film MAMAMOO: MY CON THE MOVIE will be available in cinemas worldwide on August 9 and 12 only. Tickets for the screening will be available starting July 14. 

 

MAMAMOO: MY CON THE MOVIE follows the group’s first world tour, which had stops in Seoul, Japan, Hong Kong, and the United States, among others. It will include exclusive never-before-seen footage and interviews with members Solar, Moon Byul, Whee In, and Hwa Sa. 

“Witness their captivating vocals and dynamic performances, then delve into their personal and heartfelt stories like never before, offering a rare glimpse behind the scenes,” the film’s description read, according to its website. 

Meanwhile, MAMAMOO+, the subunit consisting of Solar and Moon Byul, is gearing up for a comeback. 

Agency RBW confirmed the news, saying that the duo is releasing a new album in August. 

“Following their previous album ACT 1, SCENE 1, the members are once again actively participating in the planning and production of the new album to showcase the wide spectrum of MAMAMOO+,” the label said, according to a Soompi report. 

Additional details about MAMAMOO+’s new release have yet to be announced. 

MAMAMOO+, the first subunit of MAMAMOO, made their unit debut in August 2022 with the single “Better.”  

 

In March, they also released their first single album ACT 1, SCENE 1.
