Riku Sits Out Upcoming NCT WISH Tour for Health Reasons

Riku is taking a break to focus on his health. The young idol will be sitting out the upcoming NCT WISH tour that’s already set to kick off in the first week of November!

Riku Halts All Activities Including Upcoming NCT WISH Tour

On October 22, SM Entertainment released a statement informing fans that NCT WISH member Riku will be taking a temporary hiatus from all group activities due to health issues. According to the announcement, Riku recently experienced a “worsening of his health,” leading to his doctor’s recommendation for an immediate break to focus on recovery. As a result, Riku will not participate in NCT WISH’s upcoming “2024 NCT WISH ASIA TOUR LOG in JAPAN,” scheduled to begin on November 3.

“Riku recently visited the hospital due to a worsening of his health, and after being examined, he was advised by a doctor that he needed plenty of rest and stability,” the statement read. “We deemed our artist’s health our top priority, so after serious discussions with Riku, it was decided that he would focus on his treatment and recovery.”

“Therefore, starting today, Riku will not be participating in scheduled activities, and when the time comes that he is able to return to activities in the future, we will let you know,” it continued.

“Accordingly, the ‘2024 NCT WISH ASIA TOUR LOG in JAPAN’ that begins on November 3 will proceed with [the remaining] five members: Sion, Yushi, Jaehee, Ryo, and Sakuya. We ask for your generous understanding in regards to this fact,” the statement concluded.

Riku’s Health Issues

This decision comes after Riku’s prior absences at several events, including the 2024 Dream Concert, where he was notably missing from group performances due to similar health concerns. Fans have expressed worry, especially given his ongoing health issues, but SM Entertainment emphasized their commitment to supporting Riku’s recovery, prioritizing his well-being over all activities.

The sudden announcement has brought a wave of support from fans who are now sending well-wishes and messages of encouragement to Riku through social media. While fans will miss his presence during NCT WISH’s tour and other engagements, SM Entertainment has assured them that Riku will return when he is fully recovered and ready to rejoin the group’s schedule.

NCT WISH’s Sakuya recently sustained a minor ankle injury, as confirmed by SM Entertainment on October 5. Unfortunately, this meant that the young idol also performed seated during the 2024 K-Link Festival.

Sakuya Performed Seated Due to Injury

On October 5, the agency shared that Sakuya had injured his ankle and, as a result, would be seated during the group’s performance at the 2024 K-Link Festival later that day.

Initially, SM Entertainment considered having Sakuya sit out of the performance entirely to ensure his recovery. However, due to Sakuya’s strong desire to meet his fans in person, they allowed him to participate while remaining seated. His commitment to his fans, even during an injury, has also touched many, showing his dedication and passion for performing.

Today, Sakuya suffered a minor injury to his ankle, so he will be performing seated during [NCT WISH’s] scheduled performance at the K-Link Festival,” the statement read.

“Because we thought it would be best for Sakuya not to participate in a performance that includes excessive movement, we planned to have Sakuya sit out this performance,” it added. “However, due to the artist’s wish to meet his fans in person, it was ultimately decided that he would perform seated, so we ask for fans’ generous understanding in regards to the fact that this decision was made based on the artist’s own wishes.

NCT WISH Releases Music Video for Debut Song ‘Wish’

NCT WISH, the latest—and last—unit of NCT, has officially made their debut with the release of their first single, “Wish.” This track is featured on their debut single album, also named Wish, along with the B-side “Sail Away.” Both tracks are available in Japanese and Korean.

NCT WISH 엔시티 위시 ‘WISH (Korean Ver.)’ MV

In the official music video for “Wish,” members Jaehee, Riku, Ryo, Sakuya, Sion, and Yushi dress as Cupids. It’s a fitting choice, considering the group’s commitment to fulfilling people’s dreams and wishes, particularly in matters of the heart. Although they portray neophyte Cupids, which adds an awkward and clumsy charm to their actions, their joyful and vibrant energy more than makes up for their inexperience.

The video shows the members descending from the sky and then roaming the city, aiming Cupid’s arrows at people to spread love. This mirrors NCT WISH’s real-life aim of touching people with their music, becoming a symbol of love and positivity, and bringing happiness to fans and everyone they encounter.

Their dance moves, complete with a distinctive hand gesture synchronized with the song’s chorus, make the video even more appealing. Filmed in the scenic city of Barcelona, Spain, the video’s picturesque backdrop enhances NCT WISH’s youthful charm. The production seamlessly combines the members’ visuals with the mythological theme of Cupids. This creates a visually stunning experience that ensures each member gets ample screen time.

Both the song and its music video have received universal praise from netizens for their aesthetics, catchy melody, and more. Such unanimous acclaim is rare for a debut, underscoring the significant impact NCT WISH has already made on the K-pop industry. To celebrate the members’ achievements and show appreciation for their fans’ support, SM Entertainment released a performance video and a dance practice video.
