SISTAR19’s Hyolyn Bares Hardships of Establishing Own Label

On December 28, SISTAR19’s Hyolyn and Bora appeared as guests in Tak Jae Hoon’s Youtube series No Backwards Jaehoon. In this episode, Hyolyn opened up about the challenges of establishing her own label.

In November 2017, Hyolyn established her own one-man agency Bridge. To note, this came following SISTAR’s disbandment and departure from the group’s home agency, Starship Entertainment.

When asked by the host about its current state, the K-pop idol candidly admitted that the agency is not doing okay. With this, the artist revealed that Bridge is run by herself and her CEO as it is impossible to do everything by herself. Bursting into laughter, she then lightly shared about being the only artist under the label.

“My agency doesn’t have any other artists. How could we take on another artist when we’re already struggling financially?” the singer said. “Yes, I get to keep everything I make. But running the agency hasn’t been very profitable,” she added.

Despite the difficulties, Hyolyn shared that she ensures paying her employees on time. “I’ll pay them no matter what. Even if it means I have to starve,” the singer declared.

Wrapping up the topic, Hyolyn then explained that she decided to set up her own agency because she wanted to explore things she wanted to do. “I don’t feel like I’ve wasted any of that, though,” she reflected.

Hyolyn reunites with Bora for SISTAR19

With Hyolyn and Bora’s appearance in the show, the two idols are in the midst of promoting their upcoming comeback in January. Interestingly, this will be the duo’s first release in 11 years. The sub-unit released their last mini EP Gone Not Around Any Longer in 2013.

For those who don’t know, SISTAR19, known as a sub-unit of the girl group SISTAR, debuted with the hit single Ma Boyin 2011. However, the duo became inactive for a long period as they had to focus on individual projects.

Despite SISTAR disbanding in 2017, SISTAR19 surprised fans with the announcement of their reunion in late 2023.

Other details about the comeback such as its title track, release date, and music video are yet to be announced.

Hyolyn and Bora Open Up About SISTAR19 Reunion

Ahead of their highly-anticipated comeback, Hyolyn and Bora of girl group SISTAR showed their timeless visuals as they posed together for the January 2024 issue of Arena Homme+ Magazine.

Through its official Instagram account, the magazine shared duo and individual photos of the idols. “SISTAR19 is back,” they captioned the post.

Interestingly, the pictorial came weeks after the confirmation that Hyolyn and Bora are reuniting as SISTAR’s subunit, SISTAR19.

In November, several media outlets confirmed that the duo will officially return in January 2024. Although currently signed to different agencies, Hyolyn and Bora will work on their project together through Klap Entertainment.

“The two members are working hard on their vocals and choreography to upgrade the unit’s identity”, the agency said. Moreover, Klap Entertainment also mentioned that the group’s former agency, Starship Entertainment, pledged their full support for the new project.

When asked about their reunion as a pair, Bora shared how good it felt to reunite again.  “After we made the huge decision [to come back] as SISTAR19, I actually found myself feeling more at peace,” she was quoted in the magazine.

SISTAR19 is back!

To note, the pair’s last mini EP was Gone Not Around Any Longer which was released in January 2013. Prior to that, SISTAR19 debuted with its hit single “Ma Boy in May 2011. Although both releases gained massive success, the duo went into a decade-long hiatus, which makes fans even more anticipative of this upcoming comeback.

Known for several summer-themed tracks including “Touch My Body,” “Shake It, and Loving U,” SISTAR became one of the most-loved girl groups from their debut in 2010. However, the quartet disbanded in 2017 following the expiration of their contracts with Starship.

Since then, the members focused on their solo careers. In particular, Hyolyn released new music while Bora ventured into the world of acting.

Returning with brand new music after a long absence, SISTAR19 is set to show off their charms for the January comeback.

SISTAR’s discography included major hits like “So Cool,” “Alone,” “Touch My Body,” “Loving U,” and “Give It to Me.” Notably, their fourth single, “So Cool,” achieved significant success by debuting at number one on the Gaon Digital Chart and the Billboard Korea K-Pop Hot 100 singles chart, initiating a streak of nine consecutive number-one hits.

Recognized for their digital sales prowess, SISTAR became one of only five Korean artists to achieve nine or more number-one singles on Gaon.
