After 7 years together, Weki Meki will be going their separate ways. On June 7, Fantagio announced that the girl group would be disbanding after releasing one final single together next week.

FANTAGIO Confirms Weki Meki Disbandment After 7 Years Together

Weki Meki will be dropping the digital single “CoinciDestiny” on June 12 at 6 p.m. KST, marking a bittersweet end to their seven-year journey as a group. The final release is expected to encapsulate the essence of their musical evolution and the bond they have shared over the years, offering fans a heartfelt farewell.

Weki Meki was formed by Fantagio in 2017. The group consists of eight members: Suyeon, Elly, Yoojung, Doyeon, Sei, Lua, Rina, and Lucy. The members also started out as trainees under Fantagio i-Teen, a rookie talent development program under Fantagio Entertainment, and were initially known as i-Teen Girls. This program was aimed at nurturing young talents and preparing them for their debut, also ensuring that they were well-equipped for the challenges of the K-pop industry.

Weki Meki Through the Years

Weki Meki released their debut extended play, ‘Weme’, on August 8, 2017. The EP contains six tracks, with the lead single titled “I Don’t Like Your Girlfriend.” This debut was also met with significant interest and enthusiasm from fans, establishing Weki Meki as a promising new act in the K-pop scene. Their energetic performances and unique musical style quickly garnered a dedicated fanbase.

Since then, Weki Meki has consistently released music that also showcases their growth as artists. They have released two single albums and five extended plays, including ‘I Am Me.’ in November 2021. Each release highlighted their versatility and ability to experiment with different musical genres and concepts, further solidifying their place in the industry. Songs like “Picky Picky,” “Tiki-Taka (99%),” and “Crush” have also become fan favorites, showcasing their catchy melodies and dynamic choreography.

The news of their disbandment has undoubtedly saddened fans, who have supported them through various comebacks and activities. However, the release of “CoinciDestiny” also provides an opportunity for both the members and their fans to reflect on their journey together and celebrate the moments they have shared.

As Weki Meki members embark on new individual paths, they also leave behind a legacy of memorable performances, hit songs, and a strong bond with their fans. Weki Meki’s Kim Do Yeon to Star in ’18 Youth’

Kim Do Yeon of K-pop girl groups Weki Meki and IOI is set to make her big screen debut! 

She will headline the film 18 Youth alongside Jeon So Min. 

26 Company made the announcement on Thursday, August 10 by sharing photos from the project’s script reading. 

 

Additionally, the production company revealed that shooting for the film already started at a school in Cheongju on August 5. 

According to Korean media, So Min will portray high school teacher Hee Joo while Do Yeon will act as Soon Jung. 

What we know so far about the film 

Based on the novel of the same name, 18 Youth will follow a popular high school teacher who is well-loved by her students for her unique educational approach. However, said approach is hated by her fellow educators. 

Aside from her co-teachers, high school student Soon Jung is also annoyed by her teacher Hee Joo. 

As for her role, So Min said: “I’ll do my best to portray the quirky yet charmingly friendly teacher.” Although known for her stints in variety shows Running Man and Sixth Sense, So Min also starred in series Cross and Top Star: U Back. 

Meanwhile, Do Yeon shared that she’s “nervous and excited” since 18 Youth is her first movie. Do Yeon has previously appeared in series Short, Jirisan, and One the Woman. 

 

Moreover, Exy of K-pop group WJSN is also confirmed to be part of the cast. However, details about her character have yet to be revealed. Exy’s previous acting projects include Idol: The Coup and Urban Myths. 

18 Youth is slated for a 2024 release.
