BTOB’s Yook Sungjae and WJSN’s Bona Considering New Historical Fantasy Drama

Excitement abounds in the realm of K-Drama as reports surface of a potential collaboration between BTOB’s Yook Sungjae and WJSN’s Bona in the upcoming historical fantasy drama. If the two actors accept the role, this will mark the first time that they work together on the television series.

Yook Sungjae Might Join Bona in New Historical Fantasy Drama

With Korean news outlet MyDaily breaking the news on May 10, fans are eagerly anticipating the possibility of witnessing these two talented stars grace the small screen together.

Amidst the buzz, Yook Sungjae’s agency, IWILL Media, confirmed that the actor-singer has indeed received an offer to join the cast of “Gwigoong” and is currently reviewing it with keen interest. Likewise, Bona’s agency, Starship Entertainment, revealed that the actress-singer is positively considering the offer, hinting at the potential for an exciting on-screen collaboration.

 

“Gwigoong” promises to transport viewers into a captivating world of fantasy, steeped in Korean folklore and romance. At its core, the drama explores the intriguing tale of the Eight Feet Tall spirit’s vendetta against the king, intertwined with the narrative of a female shaman and an Imuri named Gang Cheol Yi. Drawing from rich mythology, the story unfolds against the backdrop of ancient legends and mythical creatures, adding depth and mystique to the plot.

Who Will Bona and Yook Sungjae Play?

Reportedly, Bona has been tapped to portray Young Mae, a character steeped in familial legacy and burdened by the weight of expectation. As the granddaughter of a revered shaman, Young Mae navigates a world fraught with spiritual intrigue and personal destiny.

Meanwhile, Yook Sungjae’s character is poised to undergo a transformative journey, from the humble beginnings of a concubine’s son to the esteemed position of royal inspector. However, his ascent is fraught with peril as he becomes ensnared by the malevolent spirit, Imugi Gang Cheol Yi, setting the stage for a gripping tale of redemption and resilience.

Central to the narrative is the bond shared between Bona and Yook Sungjae’s characters, rooted in childhood friendship and blossoming into a poignant tale of first love. Their on-screen chemistry also promises to captivate audiences and elevate the emotional depth of the story.

WJSN’s Bona Takes Center Stage In ‘Pyramid Game’ Poster

TVING‘s highly anticipated drama “Pyramid Game” has released a captivating teaser poster, prominently featuring WJSN’s Bona in a mysterious setting. The drama, adapted from the webtoon of the same name, also promises to be a thrilling experience set against the backdrop of Baekyeon Girls’ High School.

The newly revealed teaser poster sets the tone for the suspenseful narrative, featuring Bona as Sung Su Ji. The character, upon transferring to the school, quickly becomes the target of the pyramid game, a dangerous cycle of school violence triggered by monthly popularity votes. The poster also captures a moment of solitude for Sung Su Ji as she stands alone in an empty classroom, her gaze fixed on an undisclosed point.

Adding to the intrigue, the poster includes the class motto framed in the background: “Everyone’s happiness, everyone’s class.” However, the contrasting text, “There is a vote for bullying in our class,” also raises questions about the hidden secrets within class 5 of the second grade at Baekyeon Girls’ High School.

“Pyramid Game” is poised to be a compelling thriller, unraveling the mysteries and dark secrets within the high school setting. As the drama explores themes of bullying and social dynamics, Bona’s portrayal of Sung Su Ji is also expected to bring depth and emotion to the narrative.

SeolA of WJSN to Make Solo Debut

SeolA from K-pop group WJSN, also known as Cosmic Girls, is set to embark on a solo debut! 

Starship Entertainment has officially verified the reports, affirming that SeolA is in the midst of preparations for her solo debut, scheduled for early 2024.

According to reports by Korean media, the label said: “WJSN’s SeolA is debuting as a solo artist, and she is aiming for a release in January. We ask that you give lots of support to SeolA, who will be starting 2024 with a solo debut.” 

With this, SeolA will be the first member of WJSN to venture into an official solo debut. 

Although no other details about her upcoming release were provided yet, fans are already anticipating her solo debut as the idol is known to be an all-rounder. In WJSN, she’s known to be one of the members who are in charge of the group’s visual, dance, and vocal roles. 

Moreover, she also exhibited a diverse range of charms as the main vocalist in WJSN sub-unit The Black. Furthermore, her mature musical prowess has also been acknowledged after she contributed lyrics and composition to some of the group’s tracks. To note, she was credited in the song “Our Garden” and New Me” from the group’s albums Neverland and Unnatural, respectively. 

Apart from her group activities, SeolA has also showcased her hosting skills through KBS Radio Cool FM’s Station Z. Moreover, she also ventured into acting, starring in projects Love in Black Hole and In-Out Sider.

Notably, the news of SeolA’s upcoming solo debut was well-received by fans as it’s been a while since WJSN had any music releases. Their latest album, Sequence, was released in June 2022. Moreover, said album was released following the group’s win at the second season of the idol competition show Queendom. 

In March 2023, Starship Entertainment announced that SeolA and seven other WJSN members – Exy, Bona, Soobin, Eunseo, Yeoreum, Dayoung, and Yeonjung – have renewed their contracts with the agency. Meanwhile, Luda and Dawon’s contracts have ended. Additionally, Chineses members Xuan Yi, Cheng Xiao, and Mei Qi had also terminated their contracts.

Weki Meki’s Kim Do Yeon to Star in ’18 Youth’

Kim Do Yeon of K-pop girl groups Weki Meki and IOI is set to make her big screen debut! 

She will headline the film 18 Youth alongside Jeon So Min. 

26 Company made the announcement on Thursday, August 10 by sharing photos from the project’s script reading. 

 

Additionally, the production company revealed that shooting for the film already started at a school in Cheongju on August 5. 

According to Korean media, So Min will portray high school teacher Hee Joo while Do Yeon will act as Soon Jung. 

What we know so far about the film 

Based on the novel of the same name, 18 Youth will follow a popular high school teacher who is well-loved by her students for her unique educational approach. However, said approach is hated by her fellow educators. 

Aside from her co-teachers, high school student Soon Jung is also annoyed by her teacher Hee Joo. 

As for her role, So Min said: “I’ll do my best to portray the quirky yet charmingly friendly teacher.” Although known for her stints in variety shows Running Man and Sixth Sense, So Min also starred in series Cross and Top Star: U Back. 

Meanwhile, Do Yeon shared that she’s “nervous and excited” since 18 Youth is her first movie. Do Yeon has previously appeared in series Short, Jirisan, and One the Woman. 

 

Moreover, Exy of K-pop group WJSN is also confirmed to be part of the cast. However, details about her character have yet to be revealed. Exy’s previous acting projects include Idol: The Coup and Urban Myths. 

18 Youth is slated for a 2024 release.
