Kim Sohye Reveals I.O.I Members Want to Reunite

It’s been more than five years since girl group I.O.I has disbanded but the bond between the members remains strong. And it even reaches the point that they’re even hoping for a possible reunion.

In the Wednesday, August 16 episode of Problem Child in House, Kim Sohye opens up how she misses her idol days. Since I.O.I’s disbandment, Sohye has ventured more into acting.

Then, she shared that despite I.O.I’s short-lived existence, the members still keep in touch with each other.

Note that I.O.I was a project group that was formed in May 2016 following the first season of Produce 101. During their promotional activities, the group got the nickname “Nation’s Pick” and became known for hits “PICK ME,” “Whatta Man,” and DOWNPOUR.”

Unfortunately, I.O.I still disbanded in 2017 despite their huge following and popularity.

And during Sohye’s variety guesting appearance, she revealed that I.O.I almost had a reunion.

“We almost reunited but it didn’t work out. The plans unfortunately collapsed in the end,” the idol-actress said. “It was close to happening.”

She continued that the members are still hopeful that it will happen. “Everybody desperately wishes to get back together. It’s something we talk about all the time,” Sohye said.

Among the I.O.I members, she said that it’s Doyeon, Sejeong, and Yoojung she remain closest to.

Where are the I.O.I members now?

For season one of Produce 101, only 11 members were chosen to debut from a pool of 101 trainees. Said group was named I.O.I.

When the group disbanded, they promised fans that they’ll be reuniting for their fifth debut anniversary. And in May 2021, they fulfilled that promise by gathering together for a live broadcast.

However, two out of the 11 members weren’t able to attend the reunion in person. Kang Mina and Kyulkyung only joined the special event through a video call.

Since then, the I.O.I members continued their respective ventures.

Members Jeon Somi and Chungha have become soloists, with the former being under THEBLACKLABEL. Additionally, Chungha has recently left MNH Entertainment, her agency of seven years.

Next, Sohye has established her company S&P Entertainment. She has also received several awards as an actress.

Chayeon re-debuted in group DIA and Nayoung with Pristin. Both girl groups have disbanded as well, and the two chose to focus on their acting careers instead.

Meanwhile, Kang Mina and Sejeong also debuted as members of girl group gugudan. However, it disbanded in 2020. But the two are also active as actresses.

Moreover, Yoojung and Doyeon are under the girl group Weki Meki, with Yeonjung in WJSN. In September 2019, Kyulkyung returned to China to continue her idol activities there.

LOONA’s Chuu Wins Her Lawsuit Against Former Agency

In a significant moment for the K-pop industry, former LOONA member Chuu, also known as Kim Ji Woo, has secured a significant legal victory.

On August 17, the Seoul Northern District Court’s civil division declared the contract between Chuu and BlockBerry Creative null and void. This decision not only vindicates Chuu, but it also mandates BlockBerry Creative to shoulder all legal expenses incurred by both parties.

The origins of this legal tussle trace back to January 2022. Chuu, unsatisfied with the terms of her contract, particularly concerning payment discrepancies and eroding trust, sought legal intervention. She filed an injunction with the Seoul District Court to nullify her binding contract with BlockBerry Creative. Subsequently, the court approved her request, paving the way for Chuu to join a different agency, ATRP. That enabled her to recommence her entertainment pursuits without any contractual hindrances.

Chuu‘s legal battle isn’t an isolated incident. All other LOONA members have similarly sought legal redress to dissolve their contracts with BlockBerry Creative. They have since transferred to other agencies and are getting ready to embark on new journeys. Some will debut in a new girl group, while others are bringing back a beloved sub-unit.

Chuu‘s victory is more than just a personal triumph. It serves as a beacon of hope for many artists in the K-pop world, emphasizing the importance of fair contractual terms and the right to seek legal recourse when necessary. As the industry continues to evolve, it’s crucial for agencies and artists to foster a relationship built on trust, transparency, and mutual respect. – K-Pop News Writer

Goodbye, Odi: TXT’s Soobin Mourns His Late Pet Hedgehog

In a heartfelt and sad revelation, Soobin, the leader of TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) shared some tragic news involving his beloved pet hedgehog. According to Soobin, Odi passed away due to a disease he was diagnosed with in January 2023.

The news has left fans and followers deeply moved, as they reminisce about the numerous moments Soobin talked about Odi on social media.

Soobin expressed his grief during a Weverse live broadcast, stating, “I didn’t know how to begin or how to bring it up. I lacked the courage to talk about it. I even contemplated never discussing Odi’s condition. But with so many inquiries about him, I realized I couldn’t keep hiding the truth. I believe I’ve sent him off peacefully, but my heart ached for a long time.”

Odi‘s passing occurred last month, when Soobin was away in Japan. He recalled a poignant moment, “After our dome tour ended, I video-called Odi, telling him I’d be back in two weeks. He seemed strong, and I felt both pride and sadness. But just a few days later, he was gone. I wasn’t there to bid him farewell, and that weighs heavily on my heart.”

In April 2021, the TXT leader introduced Odi to the world. The hedgehog, who lived in TXT’s dorm alongside members Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai, quickly became a global sensation. Soobin‘s frequent updates about Odi on social media endeared the pet to fans worldwide. Odi even had his own fancam by Mnet, a testament to his popularity.

Soobin’s bond with Odi

Soobin‘s bond with his pet hedgehog was evident. He often showed Odi off to fans and shared the touching reason behind his name. “In Korea, naming a pet after food is believed to grant them a long life. That’s why I named him Odi, the Korean word for mulberry. I hope he’ll live a long and healthy life,” Soobin explained in a YouTube video TXT filmed for a media outlet.

In an interview with Weverse Magazine, Soobin delved deeper into his life with Odi. He humorously mentioned Odi’s love for mealworms and his initial hesitancy towards human interaction. Over time, Odi warmed up to people, especially enjoying belly rubs. “Having Odi added variety to my routine. He brightened my day. I’m just grateful he was there, waiting for me,” Soobin reflected.

The bond between Soobin and Odi was profound. “I adored Odi immensely. He’ll forever be etched in my memories. Our time together was brief, but I’m eternally grateful to him. I hope he’s free from pain now,” Soobin expressed.

He concluded with a touching sentiment, “They say when humans ascend to heaven, their pets greet them. I hope that when my time comes, a healthy Odi will be the first to welcome me there. I urge everyone not to worry too much. Let’s cherish Odi’s memories and give him a heartfelt farewell.”

As fans across the globe mourn alongside Soobin, Odi’s memory remains a testament to the deep bond between pets and their owners.-K-Pop News Writer

Should BTS’ RM Apologize to Muslims for Posting an “Islamophobic” IG Story?

The global sensation BTS is no stranger to making headlines. However, this time, it’s not for their chart-topping hits or groundbreaking performances. RM, the group’s leader, came under fire for a song recommendation he made on his Instagram story. He posted about the song “Bad Religion” by Frank Ocean. As many fans eagerly listened to the track, they soon realized that the song has been a topic of debate for some time.

@xsrnghj04

♬ Sombody’s Pleasure – Sad Vibes Night

All about “Bad Religion”

Bad Religion” by American singer-songwriter Frank Ocean is a profound exploration of internal conflict, unrequited love, and the search for understanding and acceptance. It delves deep into the psyche of an individual grappling with the pain of loving someone who doesn’t feel the same.

The song begins with Frank Ocean in the backseat of a taxi. In the song, he asks the taxi driver to play the role of a therapist. Drivers often become inadvertent therapists, offering passengers a safe space to rant and reflect. A taxi’s intimate setting, combined with the driver’s detachment, creates an environment reminiscent of a confessional.

@royalrkives

hope this helps? again, ur entitled to ur own feelings & opinions regardless of this explanation 💜 #방탄 #bts #방탄소년단 #armybts #btsarmy #bts_official_bighit #bangtan #bangtanboys #namjoon #royalrkives #kimnamjoon #남준 #김남준 #방탄남준 #rm #rmbts

♬ original sound – royalty 🎀🕷

Religion plays an important role in the song. It serves as a metaphor for the confusion and pain of unrequited love. In the chorus, the taxi driver uttered the Islamic protective oath, “Allahu Akbar” (which means “God is the greatest”). It suggests that one should seek solace in a higher power when faced with overwhelming problems. However, for Frank Ocean, this religious reference intertwines with his unrequited love, leading him to question the very nature of devotion and worship.

Throughout the song, love is portrayed as a form of worship. This “bad religion” of unrequited love contrasts with institutionalized religious beliefs that often condemn homosexuality. Frank Ocean‘s open letter following the Orlando mass shooting underscores the pain and alienation many LGBTQ+ individuals feel due to societal and religious prejudices.

Should RM apologize?

The recommendation has left the internet divided. Some believe RM should’ve been more cautious with his song choices, especially given the global reach and influence of BTS. Others argue that he might not have been aware of the song’s controversial history. Many Muslims don’t approve of Frank Ocean’s use of that phrase in his lyrics. However, in the context of the song’s overall narrative, the use of the line doesn’t seem to be disrespectful of Islam.

As an individual, RM has the freedom to listen to anything. But the dynamics change when he shares his musical preferences on a platform like Instagram, especially given his immense global influence. Sharing a song can be perceived by many as an endorsement or recommendation, even if the intent might simply be an appreciation of the song itself.

Historically, public figures have often faced backlash for sharing songs, movies, or other forms of art that have contentious elements. The emphasis, in such situations, is on the response. A genuine acknowledgment or clarification can be instrumental in addressing concerns.

RM‘s decision to share “Bad Religion” on his Instagram story is fraught with complications. While personal freedom in musical choices is essential, public figures like BTSleader have great power. As such, they should use it responsibly. Whether he should apologize or not is subjective and hinges on the feedback from his diverse fanbase and the broader public. – K-Pop News Writer
