Marking Jinyoung’s first acting project since his military discharge, “The Witch” holds special significance for him. Reflecting on his time on set, Jinyoung fondly recalled, “Everyone was united in spirit,” highlighting the strong sense of camaraderie during filming.

“Each and every person on set worked hard to make this a great drama,” Jinyoung said. “What I remember most about the set was that there was a lot of discussion and conversation.”

Roh Jeong Eui also expressed heartfelt affection for the drama, describing it as “the most precious project of my life.” She shared that “The Witch” has been the project through which she has grown and learned the most since her acting debut.

“Above all else, the people [I met] remained with me,” Roh said. “In particular, I received a lot of comfort from the more experienced actors on set. I also learned a lot of things that enabled me to grow as an actor.”

Based on the popular webtoon by “Moving” author Kang Full, “The Witch” is a mystery romance that follows Mi Jeong (Roh Jeong Eui), a woman shunned by her village after being labeled a “witch.” The men who fall in love with her mysteriously die, leading her to isolate herself from the world. Making his acting return after completing military service, Jinyoung takes on the role of Dong Jin, a top-tier data analyst. In high school, Dong Jin quietly admired Mi Jung but never confessed his feelings before she was driven away. Now, as an adult, Dong Jin uses his skills in big data to investigate the mysterious deaths and uncover the truth behind Mi Jung’s supposed curse, embarking on a journey filled with romance, suspense, and self-discovery.

“The idea of wanting to protect someone you love from afar felt incredibly fresh, and I was also curious about how director Kim Tae Kyun would bring it to life,” Park said when explaining why he took on the role.

Speaking about his character, Jinyoung described Dong Jin as a solitary individual who leads a quiet life, with no significant hobbies and few friends. “Dong Jin is like a genius who focuses intensely on one thing at a time,” he said. “When he’s working or investigating the curse tied to Mi Jung, I wanted to portray the feeling that he’s so absorbed, it’s as if he doesn’t hear or see anything else around him.”

I think people may have a fixed image of me as an actor,” he said. “So when this project was offered to me, I was amazed. I was also curious about what the director saw in me and felt grateful for the opportunity.

It’s an actor’s job to show different sides, but the timing wasn’t right before, and roles like this didn’t come my way,” Park added. “After returning from the military and getting older, I finally found a project like this and thought I could show a new side of myself.”

He also reflected on the drama’s intense premise, hinting at the layered storytelling behind its Korean title.

I think everyone has their own ‘treasure island,’ whether it’s career success or the amount of money they want to make,” Park said. “But what happens if my treasure island is the same as someone else’s? When someone’s treasure island is at risk of being taken, it shows how fierce, ruthless, and even cruel people can become.”

“That’s what this show explores,” he added. “The desires and ambitions of individuals clash, leading to uncontrollable events. While filming, I spent a lot of time reflecting on what my own treasure island is and what goals I should be pursuing in life.”
