Song Hye Kyo Wins Daesang at the 2023 Blue Dragon Series Awards

South Korean actress Song Hye Kyo won the Grand Prize at the 2023 Blue Dragon Series Awards held at Incheon Paradise City on Wednesday, July 19. 

Song was recognized for her portrayal as Moon Dong-eun in the hit Netflix series The Glory. 

“I can’t believe I’d receive this award. I want to praise myself for the first time. Good job, Hye Kyo,” she said in her acceptance speech. 

 

This served as her third Daesang (Grand Prize) in her acting career. Her previous Daesang were from the 2013 series That Winter, The Wind Blows and the 2016 series Descendants of the Sun. 

Meanwhile, Ha Jung Woo of Narco-Saints and Anna’s Bae Suzy won the Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively. 

The Disney+ series Big Bet won the Best Drama award, beating nominees The Glory, Narco-Saints, Weak Hero Class 1, and Bargain. 

The rest of the winners in the drama category are: 

  • Best Supporting Actor: Lee Dong Hwi, Big Bet 
  • Best Supporting Actress: Lim Ji Yeon, The Glory 
  • Best Rookie Actor: Park Ji Hoon, Weak Hero Class 1
  • Best Rookie Actress: Shin Ye Eun, Revenge of Others 
  • OST Popularity Award: Jaechan of DKZ, Our Season 
  • Why Not Award: Choi Hyun Wook, Weak Hero Class 1

For the variety category, Siren: Survive the Island took home the Best Variety Program award. 

Yoo Jae Suk was named Best Male Entertainer for his show PLAYou Level Up, while Joo Hyung Young of  SNL Korea was named Best Female Entertainer. 

The 2023 ceremony marked the second edition of the Blue Dragon Series Awards. This year, the award-giving body added new awards: a Daesang (grand prize), OST Popularity Award, and Why Not Award. 

Blue Dragon Series Awards honors the excellent individuals and projects produced by streaming services.

Harper’s Bazaar Korea has just unveiled stunning photos of Suzy for the cover of the magazine’s July 2023 issue. In the photo shoot, Suzy shows off elegant timepieces as Longines’ global ambassador.

In the accompanying interview, Suzy revealed her standards for choosing new projects.

 

It’s the character. Whether it’s instinctively or rationally, if I feel a sense of déjà vu with the character, I don’t think I’m drawn to them,” she said.

What’s most important depends on how much I’m able to understand that character,” Suzy continued.

“Strangely, there are some characters that keep weighing on my mind. When that happens, I tend to do them,” she concluded.

It certainly works for Bae Suzy who always works on critically-acclaimed TV shows and films. She previously worked on shows like Vagabond and Start-Up and her film Wonderland was screened at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.

Although Wonderland has not yet been released, fans got a preview of Suzy and Park Bo Gum’s chemistry at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards. The two actors served as co-hosts alongside Shin Dong Yup at the prestigious event. Bae Suzy and Park Bo Gum have served as co-hosts at the Baeksang Awards for several years and they clearly got along.

One of Suzy’s latest projects will also mean a reunion with a previous co-star. It was previously confirmed that Bae Suzy will reunite with Uncontrollably Fond co-star Kim Woo Bin in a new project. The actors will star in the upcoming fantasy romantic comedy All Your Wishes Come True which is being written by The Glory scribe Kim Eun Sook.

As expected, the two joined Shin Dong Yup on the red carpet before the event.

Fans were immediately stunned by the trio’s stylish looks but Suzy stole the show with her gorgeous black ball gown. Although it was perfect from every angle, the “Start-up” actress also struggled to walk in her dress. Luckily, Park Bo Gum was always just one step behind watching over his co-host as they crossed the red carpet.

 

Park Bo Gum Is The Perfect Gentleman With Baeksang Co-Host Bae Suzy

Park Bo Gum’s special care for Bae Suzy immediately captured netizens’ attention. People praised the “Record of Youth” actor for being a gentleman and keeping an eye on the “Anna” actress on the red carpet.  The pair have clearly perfected their cute chemistry after hosting the Baeksang Awards together for five years in a row. (Park Bo Gum missed the 57th Baeksang due to military enlistment).

The chemistry between Park Bo Gum and Bae Suzy at the Baeksang Awards will come in handy in the duo’s latest project. They are confirmed to star in the upcoming Netflix film “Wonderland” which will also feature Choi Woo Shik, Jung Yu Mi, and Chinese actress Tang Wei. The project has not yet been given an official release date.

Bae Suzy recently opened up about growing up in the entertainment industry. The former Miss A member stated that she doesn’t mind aging.

“I’m getting older and getting more wrinkles, and I’m enjoying it,” Suzy said.

She added, “I like it because it feels like I’m becoming a better person with each year that passes. I think I try to find those things within myself. I don’t think about things too deeply.”

SUZY is ready for marriage. The “Vagabond” star confirmed that she is open to possibly tying the knot by next year. Bae Suzy also spoke about growing up and aging in the limelight.

SUZY Opens Up About Aging and Marriage

Bae Suzy was recently a guest on “Jo Hyun Ah’s Thursday Night” where she spoke about debuting at a young age. The former MISS A member admitted that growing up in the entertainment industry has not been easy.

“I debuted when I was too young, and I imagined that when I age, everything will become easier and I’ll be more mature,” she said. “Nothing seems to have changed though. I’m getting older and getting more wrinkles, and I’m enjoying it.”

Suzy added, “I like it because it feels like I’m becoming a better person with each year that passes. I think I try to find those things within myself. I don’t think about things too deeply.”

Bae Suzy debuted with MISS A in March 2010 and soon ventured into acting. She has been a singer and actor for 13 years and continues to be an influential figure in the industry.

Not surprisingly, SUZY confirmed that she had thought about marriage and met with a fortune teller to discuss her future.

“I went to a fortune teller recently, and they told me that it’d be best if I got married at age 31. That’s next year though. If I do get married next year, I don’t think I’d regret it,” she said.

The “Start-Up” star continued, “If I do get married, it’ll either be very simple or very grand. There’s no standard for the age to get married, but it’s a young age.”

Suzy has been busy with several projects in the past year. Her latest web series “Anna” premiered on Couprang Play in June 2022. Bae Suzy also returned to singing, releasing the digital single “Cape” in October 2022.
