AERA Held a Magazine Publishing Exhibit Featuring BTS’s Jimin

AERA, a well-known Japanese weekly magazine, recently hosted an exhibit titled The Making of a Magazine. At the exhibit, attendees got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the production of its issues, including the April 2023 issue featuring BTS’s Jimin on the cover. This event took place at the COVER library in Tokyu Plaza Harajuku Harakado from April 17 to April 23.

The April issue, released shortly after Jimin’s debut solo album FACE,included a stunning 12-page spread that captured the hearts of ARMYs worldwide. The photos, taken by acclaimed photographer Mika Ninagawa, made the spread even more appealing.

Mika, the daughter of famed theater director Yukio Ninagawa, rose to prominence in the late 1990s as part of Japan’s “Girly Photo” movement. She made her directing debut with the film Sakuran in 2007, followed by the music video for AKB48’s “Heavy Rotation” in 2010. Mika’s signature style of bright, saturated colors and dynamic compositions, which gave the video a lively, eye-catching visual feel, was evident in Jimin’s spread in AERA. The collaboration between Jimin and Mika resulted in visually arresting photos where Jimin, dressed in a mauve pink blazer, was surrounded by a lush floral backdrop.

Jimin is one of K-pop’s most beloved figures

The exhibit gave fans an immersive, informative look at how magazine publishing works. It included a series of displays that explained how the AERA staff puts every issue to bed, shedding light on the entire process from start to finish. Entry to the exhibit was free, which allowed many to experience the magic of magazine publishing and the charm of one of K-pop’s most beloved figures.

One of the highlights was a display featuring previously unreleased photos and videos from Jimin’s cover shoot. Behind-the-scenes content from photoshoots with other artists, including popular figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu, J-pop groups BE:FIRST and INI, and soloist Hiromitsu Kitayama, also had spots in the exhibit. Finally, for those curious about what it’s like to appear in AERA, there was an interactive mirror photo wall where attendees could experience being on the cover of the magazine.

This event celebrated the art of magazine publishing and proved how influential and popular Jimin truly is. Pre-orders for the April 2023 issue soared, topping charts on major Japanese online platforms like Amazon Japan and Net7 even before its official release. The exhibit allowed Jimin’s fans to feel his presence even as he’s serving in the South Korean military. – K-Pop News Writer

BTS’s Jimin May Have Finished His Second Solo Album

BTS’s Jimin may have completed his second solo album.

This revelation emerged in a behind-the-scenes video posted on YouTube by fellow BTS member SUGA. The video captured moments from his ‘D-DAY’ Tour in Seoul, where Jimin made a special appearance alongside V and Jungkook to support SUGA. Fans were thrilled to see the four of them together.

During these moments of camaraderie, a shirtless Jimin offered fans a glimpse of his back tattoo. He got the phases of the moon tattooed on his back, inspired by fan art from illustrator @ArizzoStudios on X (formerly Twitter). However, it wasn’t the tattoo that caused a frenzy among the ARMYs—it was a comment Jimin made. He casually mentioned, “I’m done with my album now,” in the video. Given that the video was filmed months after the release of his debut solo album, FACE, he was clearly referring to something new.

Other signs that Jimin has more music coming

Hints about Jimin’s new music have surfaced before. On December 28, 2023, Hollywood-based audio engineer and composer Austin Owens, known as Ayo the Producer, shared some insights. Owens, who collaborated with Jimin on the song “Closer Than This,” posted an Instagram carousel. It included a video of Jimin practicing the choreography for “Closer Than This,” Owens captioned it, “Cup is full…2024 I’m ready for you.”

Prior to this, he shared a reel featuring Jimin and some dancers grooving to “Closer Than This,” Originally posted by Jimin on BTS’s official TikTok account, Owens reposted it with the caption, “We’re FarFromFinished.” When asked by a fan what he meant, he responded, “There’s always more work to be done.” This was interpreted by ARMYs as an indirect confirmation of more music from Jimin.

These teasers have sparked speculation and excitement among fans, who are eagerly awaiting the official announcement and release of the “Like Crazy” hitmaker’s second solo album. – K-Pop News Writer

Actress Park Seulgi Talks About the Thoughtful Gift Park Bogum Gave Her

During a recent episode of MBC’s Radio Star, actress Park Seulgi told a heartwarming story about actor Park Bogum. “I’ve been hosting Park Bogum’s fan meetings for a long time. After Bogum returned from the military, we finally had a fan meeting post-COVID for the first time in a while,” she began. “Bogum personally called me and asked, ‘Sunbae-nim, I’m having a fan meeting for the first time in a while in August, are you available?’ I gushed over how grateful I was that he thought of me amidst the rising stars like Jaejae and Yoo Jaepil, to which he replied, ‘Noona, you must join us. I really want you to be there.’ Wasn’t that touching?”

Why the gift was so meaningful

Park Seulgi continued by describing a gift the actor gave her. “During the two-day fan meeting, after the first day, the manager handed me a gift. Bogum always writes me a letter saying ‘Thank you, sunbae-nim, noona,’ and gives me a beautiful package of cosmetics he endorses as gifts for every fan meeting. There was also an album included. I assumed it was his since Bogum sings well, but it turned out to be BTS Jimin’s. I adore BTS, and he gave me Jimin’s signed CD. It felt like my heart was melting.”

The actress revealed why the gift was so meaningful. “Only my Instagram followers know how much I love BTS Jimin. It seems Bogum noticed that. My first child’s prenatal nickname was ‘Bangtan,’ showing how much I love BTS, and my second child’s was ‘Tantan.’ I was moved to tears when I received it. When I asked Bogum how he could have possibly given me such a gift, he said, ‘I really wanted to do this for you.’ I was thankful that Bogum remembered me and understood me so well.”

Park Seulgi is a hardcore Jimin stan

This isn’t the first time Park Seulgi has openly expressed her admiration for BTS. In 2019, she went on KBS CoolFM’s Park Myung-soo’s Radio Show and joked about her deep affection for the group. “I really like BTS, and recently, I got married to Jimin in a dream,” she laughed. “I like him so much that he comes out in my dreams nowadays.”

DJ Park Myung-soo also shared that he has a lot of nightmares, but no actors or actresses would come out in his dreams because he “doesn’t have a particular interest in them.” Park Seul-gi’s story became a joke during the show, since she is already married to a producer at an advertising company.

The fact that Park Bogum remembered how much Park Seulgi loves Jimin and made the effort to get her a gift she’d really like showcases the depth of their friendship. It also exposes Bogum’s true nature, proving that he’s not just sweet and caring on-cam—he’s also that way in real life. – K-Pop News Writer

BTS’s Jimin, Jungkook, RM, and V Reportedly Earn Military Promotion

On February 29, 2024, fans learned that BTS members Jimin, Jungkook, RM, and V earned promotions to Private First Class in the South Korean military. X (formerly Twitter) user @jaya20dec broke the news in a now-viral post. It highlights the significant progress the four have made since their enlistment in December 2023.

RM and V underwent basic training at the Nonsan Training Center, where they were recognized as elite soldiers of their graduating batch. RM was assigned to the 15th Infantry Division in Hwacheon, Gangwon-do, and is currently playing the saxophone in the military band. Meanwhile, after an additional three-week stint at the Army General Administration School, V was assigned to the “Ssangyong Unit” in the 2nd Corps of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Army, which falls under the Ground Operations Command.

BTS’s Jimin and Jungkook enlisted together under the buddy system (“동반입대” or dongbanipdae). Initially, both went to the 5th Infantry Division, where fellow BTS member Jin is serving. But after a more detailed second classification, Jimin and Jungkook were reassigned to an artillery battalion.

From ‘ideungbyeon’ to ‘ildeungbyeong’

After completing almost three months in their respective units, the BTS members were promoted to Private First Class (“일등병” or ildeungbyeong) from Private (“이등병” or ideungbyeong). In the South Korean military, supervisors can request the promotion of recruits to Private First Class within one year of their enlistment. For the BTS members, their promotions took effect on March 1, 2024.

The South Korean military is a comprehensive and structured organization with a clear hierarchy. This hierarchy divides ranks into several groups, including commissioned officers, enlisted personnel, non-commissioned officers (NCOs), and warrant officers. Each has specific roles, responsibilities, and promotion criteria.

Progression typically starts from Private and advances through ranks such as Private First Class, Corporal (“상등병” or sangdeungbyeong), and Sergeant (“병장” or byeongjang). Promotions are based on factors like time in service, performance, and passing specific tests. But the exact criteria can vary by military branch and its needs. The military emphasizes continuous training and development programs to prepare personnel for increased responsibilities.

BTS member Jimin was inducted into the Hall of Fame as one of the major donors to the Hometown Love Donation project in Nam-gu, a district in the South Central part of Busan. This acknowledgment reflects Jimin’s long-standing commitment to philanthropy. Over the years, the idol has worked to uplift needy children and support various charitable causes.

He donated 3,766.08 USD (approximately 5,015,514.70 KRW) to the Hometown Love Donation project, which encourages donations to local governments beyond one’s own. It fosters community support across different regions. By donating the maximum amount an individual can contribute, Jimin demonstrated his dedication to making a positive impact. His contribution to Nam-gu, where his father’s cafe MAGNATE is located, further strengthens his ties to his hometown.

In recognition of his generous donations aimed at uplifting vulnerable sections of society and nurturing local communities and youth, Jimin was listed in the Hall of Fame for Major Donors on the district’s website. He also received a Plaque of Appreciation in August 2023. Demonstrating his humility, when Jimin received local specialties in return for his contributions, he chose to donate them to needy people in the district instead.

Fans called Jimin an ‘angel’

The Nam-gu office revealed that over 1,000 people have contributed to the Hometown Love Donation program, amassing over 110.95 million KRW (83,298.93 USD) so far. News of Jimin’s good deeds quickly spread, with ARMYs taking to social media to celebrate his kindness. They referred to the “Like Crazy” singer as an “angel” and expressed admiration for his actions.

In addition to his philanthropic achievements, Jimin finished basic military training with flying colors. He’s currently serving in the 5th Infantry Division alongside fellow BTS member Jungkook. They signed up for the South Korean military’s “동반입대” (dongbanipdae) or buddy system. This program allows soldiers to enlist and train with close friends or relatives. They can also live in the same residential unit. Both will return to the entertainment industry in 2025.

Jimin’s actions inspired not only his fans but also the wider community, proving that kindness and generosity can indeed leave a lasting impact. – K-Pop News Writer

Jimin’s ‘Serendipity’ Surpasses 400M Combined Streams on Spotify

Jimin’s solo song “Serendipity” continues to capture hearts—and ears—worldwide. Released in 2018 as part of the BTS album Love Yourself: Answer, its full version exceeded 270 million streams on Spotify last February 22. Remarkably, both versions of the song have garnered hundreds of millions of streams. “Intro: Serendipity,” released the year before as part of the Love Yourself: Her album, has over 130 million streams to date. Across both versions, it has surpassed 400 million streams.

“Serendipity” is just one of many songs by Jimin that have done well on Spotify. “Lie” and “Filter” have 235 million and 420 million streams, respectively. Additionally, “Like Crazy” (the title track of his debut solo album) reached 880 million streams for the Korean version and 305 million for the English version. “Set Me Free Pt.2” has achieved 280 million streams. This brings his total to six solo songs that have exceeded the 200 million mark.

Beyond Spotify, “Serendipity” is also popular on the global music search platform Shazam. The intro version has garnered 400,000 Shazams, and the full version, 150,000. This comes as no surprise given how the song blends delicate, electronic-tinged R&B with Jimin’s airy vocals. Critics and fans alike have heaped praise on the track, describing it as both sensual and comforting. Its gender-neutral lyrics are about pursuing dreams, discovering one’s identity, purpose, and experiencing true love.

Jimin has set a meaningful record

Many have said that Jimin looks like The Little Prince in the official music video for “Serendipity.” Directed by Choi Yongseok and Lee Wonju of Lumpens, and choreographed by Brian Puspos—who collaborated with BTS on “Butterfly”—the video has made significant strides. On YouTube, it’s the 19th BTS video to go viral. It’s also the first solo track by a BTS member to surpass 100 million views, currently boasting 177 million views.

Furthermore, the full version of “Serendipity,” along with “Lie” and “Filter,” has achieved significant sales milestones in the United States. Each has sold over 500,000 units. This makes Jimin the first Korean soloist to have all his solo tracks from group albums receive Gold certification from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). Additionally, Jimin has set a meaningful record by being the only member to have all three solo songs enter the Top 40 BTS Songs as selected by the UK’s Official Charts.

BTS’s Jimin Will Grace the March 2024 Cover of Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam

BTS’s Jimin has been announced as the cover star for the March 2024 issue of Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam. The fashion magazine made the announcement on its official Instagram. One of the cover blurbs highlighted the K-pop idol’s thoughts on accessories. “Accessories possess the remarkable ability to uplift my spirits,” he shared.

The interview and photoshoot were done before he joined the South Korean military on December 12, 2023, alongside fellow BTS member Jungkook. They enlisted together under the “동반입대” (dongbanipdae) or buddy system. This program allows them to enlist, train, and live together for the duration of their service.

In one of the photos—which Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam chose for the cover—Jimin wore a Dior jacket and dress pants. He also donned bracelets, necklaces, and rings from Tiffany & Co.’s Tiffany Lock collection, which the brand debuted in August 2022. Padlocks, which have been a motif for the brand since the 1880s, inspired the collection. It features pieces made with highly polished 18-carat gold and hand-set pavé diamonds, symbolizing love and commitment.

In a subsequent Instagram post, Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam posted photos of Jimin clad in black and gray blazer suits, a blue and white striped shirt with blue checkered knitwear, and a bucket hat, all from Dior. He also wore pieces from Tiffany & Co.’s Tiffany HardWear and Tiffany T. collections. This collection finds its roots in a 1971 bracelet from Tiffany’s archives. It offers bold and expressive pieces that capture New York City’s spirited atmosphere. As for the Tiffany T collection, its designs are characterized by a sleek T motif inspired by the brand’s name.

Jimin and his stunning visuals

A final series of photos saw Jimin wearing Dior again. Two brooches from Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co., named “Paris Flame” and “Bird on a Rock,” complemented his clothes. The former has diamonds at the center, set in 18k yellow gold and platinum to resemble the way a flame flickers and moves.

The latter is one of the 21st century’s most iconic jewelry designs. This 18k yellow gold and platinum brooch had a diamond-encrusted bird on an emerald-cut tanzanite “rock.” It can also come with aquamarine, kunzite, morganite, spessartine, and tourmaline gemstones, available in cushion or oval cuts.

Styled by Kim Youngjin and captured by photographer Hong Jang-hyun, with hair by Dareum Kim and makeup by Hansom from Bit & Boot, this feature highlights Jimin‘s ability to navigate the realm of high fashion with ease.

Fans are excited for the release of Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam’s March 2024 issue. Not just because of Jimin and his stunning visuals, but also because the interview will give them greater insight into the BTS member’s journey as a style icon. – K-Pop News Writer

BTS’s Jimin’s TikTok Hashtag Exceeds 166 Billion Views

BTS’s Jimin has demonstrated his worldwide appeal once again by reaching a new TikTok milestone. His unique hashtag “#jimin” has surpassed an astonishing 166 billion views for a single mention as of February 14. This underscores the idol’s charm and the global impact of his music. It also serves as a clear indicator of the widespread love and support he enjoys from fans around the world.

230224 Jimin Dose – ‘Jimin-level popularity’ Jimin’s TikTok hashtag exceeds 166 billion views

Jimin’s solo song “Filter,” which appeared on BTS‘s fourth studio album, Map of the Soul: 7, is quite popular on TikTok. It has been used as background music over 397,700 times. This ranks it seventh overall and first among solo songs on BTS‘s official account. It is followed by some of the group’s songs, like “Permission to Dance,” “Fake Love,” and “Boy With Luv.”

Moreover, Jimin’s “Like Crazy”—the title track of his debut solo album FACE—was named the Song of March in TikTok’s 2023 K-pop mid-year summary. But that’s not all. From becoming the first song by a Korean soloist to hit No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, “Like Crazy” has also become a favorite on TikTok. As of February 18, 2024, it has been used in over 316,000 videos.

Everything Jimin touches turns to gold

It’s almost like everything Jimin touches turns to gold—on TikTok, at least. A BangBangCon promotional video he filmed and posted in 2020 has recorded the highest views for an individual on TikTok, with 130 million views and 13.81 million likes. Meanwhile, a video of Jimin dancing to BTS’s first English hit “Dynamite,” garnered significant attention as well. That video has 108.3 million views and 15.9 million likes as of this writing.

Normally, after achieving such success on TikTok, one might rush to create more content for the platform. However, Jimin can’t do that right now because he’s still serving in the South Korean military. He and fellow BTS member Jungkook enlisted together under the “동반입대” (dongbanipdae) or buddy system. This program allows them to enlist, train, and live together for the duration of their service. Maybe after they’re discharged, sometime in June 2025, they can make a TikTok video together.

Given Jimin’s current success on TikTok, he might break the platform once he’s able to post again. Until then, ARMYs worldwide are eagerly counting down the days till his return. – K-Pop News Writer
