Daesung Opens Up About Experiences With BIGBANG

Daesung recently graced the pages of Allure Korea, showcasing his charm and style in a stunning pictorial released on May 27. In addition to that, Daesung spoke about his experiences with BIGBANG as well as his solo efforts.

In the accompanying interview, Daesung opened up about his journey with BIGBANG, offering heartfelt reflections on his deep love for performing. He spoke candidly about the joy and fulfillment he finds on stage, describing it as a unique and irreplaceable experience. 

“We weren’t a group that worked hard on broadcast appearances, and in terms of frequency, the tour probably took a bigger part. I was able to naturally experience the realism and liveliness of the performance, and I think that experience fascinated me. It’s the most fun. There are artists who put the weight of their music activities on performances and tour hard, and I think that’s the ultimate goal for me too.”

He also revealed that he discovered how BIGBANG has influenced the people around him.

“These days, when I go to the field, there are a lot of people who say, ‘I was a VIP,’ and it makes me realize how much time I’ve been active. At the same time, I feel proud. It’s amazing that VIPs are able to grow well and become part of society and collaborate.”

Stepping Out On His Own

Beyond his musical career, Daesung discussed his venture into the digital world with his YouTube channel, “ZIP Daesung.”

Daesung provided an honest yet cautious response, stating, “Well for now, it is what it is. The situation as of now is the situation, but you never know what will happen in the future. I can’t exactly say what will happen.”

“I’m cautious about speaking on this,” he added. “And what I say does not reflect the thoughts or opinions of the other BIGBANG members. These are my thoughts alone.” He elaborated that each member is currently focusing on solo activities, but left the door open for potential future reunions, adding, “Later on, some time in the near future, there might be a time when we can perform together on the same stage again.”

When Is the BIGBANG Comeback?

The uncertainty surrounding Big Bang’s future led to another popular question: “Will there be a BIGBANG comeback?”

Daesung responded, “I am really not sure what will happen. It may be that we are all cautious about this. But at this point in time, no, we have not talked about having a BIGBANG comeback. Well, with that said, it’s not like we’ve cast this topic aside like it’s never going to happen either. It’s not like we’ve never talked about BIGBANG’s future either.” The ambiguous stance suggests that while there are no immediate plans, the possibility of a comeback hasn’t been entirely ruled out.

Additionally, when asked about the potential for a BIGBANG concert, Daesung addressed fans’ hopes directly. He stated, “No, there are no plans to hold a BIGBANG concert.” This straightforward answer confirmed that, as of now, there are no scheduled performances or concerts for the group.

BIGBANG’s Daesung Makes Solo Comeback With ‘Flow’

The long wait is almost over, VIPs! Daesung of K-pop boy group BIGBANG will finally make his highly-anticipated comeback after a long hiatus with the special single “Flow.” 

Notably, the upcoming single will be a remake of the 2012 track by singer Lee Han-Chul.

As per the announcement of Daesung’s new agency R&D Company, the said single will be officially released on December 18.

With the aim to provide comfort to the listeners throughout the holiday vibes, the song’s healing lyrics and Daesung’s warm vocals are expected to create a perfect match for the season.

BIGBANG and VIP’s support for Daesung’s fresh start

Furthermore, this will be Daesung’s first solo output in over six years. As he had his last solo release in 2017 with the Japanese EP Delight 2. Throughout this period, he also served in the military between March 2018 and November 2019.

Moreover, the upcoming single will also be the singer’s first release under his new label. In December 2022, Daesung parted ways with YG Entertainment after 16 years following the expiration of his contract. 

After the idol’s signing in April 2023, R&D Company warmly welcomed Daesung by forming the subdivision D-LABLE. According to the agency, the specific subdivision will be dedicated to handle the idol’s individual activities. 

As this marks a new beginning for the idol, VIPs, BIGBANG’s fanbase, were thrilled to see members Taeyang and G-Dragon showing their support to their fellow member.

On their personal Instagram accounts, both Taeyang and G-Dragon shared stories of Daesung’s comeback teaser. 

On social media, the news were also received well by fans. Many of his supporters expressed their excitement and gratitude for the singer’s Christmas present. 

Aside from the special single, fans can also look forward to his return in variety shows. In October, it was confirmed that Daesung will be judging the new trot competition show titled Living King. 

As for his activities with BIGBANG, the quartet released “Still Life” in April 2022. It served as the group’s first release in nearly four years. Currently, there’s no official confirmation as to whether BIGBANG will continue releasing music together as T.O.P hinted that he exited the group.

BIGBANG’s Daesung is set to make his return to variety shows as a judge in the upcoming trot competition. This will mark the first time that the K-pop idol has returned to variety shows.

On October 6, it was confirmed that Daesung would serve as one of the judges on a new trot competition show. “Living Legend” is a survival music variety program that aims to identify the top 7 currently active female trot singers who will represent South Korea at the 2024 Korea-Japan Trot Legend Championship.

Even before its premiere, the show has garnered attention as it is created by the same team behind hit programs like “Miss Trot,” “Mr. Trot,” and “Burning Trotman.” Furthermore, Shin Dong Yup will serve as the show’s MC, marking his debut as a trot music variety show host.

In addition to his involvement in BIGBANG, Daesung has displayed his versatility as a solo artist, exploring various music genres, including rock, ballad, and trot. His trot songs, such as “Look at Me, Gwisoon” and “It’s a Big Hit,” have received immense affection in Korea. Furthermore, he has made appearances on popular variety shows like “Family Outing” and “Night After Night” as a fixed panel member.

Daesung Takes on Special Role in New Competition Show

Daesung will take on the role of a “special national producer” on the show, and fans are also eager to see the new and unique charms he will bring to the table. This appearance marks his first regular variety show appearance in 12 years.

Expressing his anticipation, Daesung stated, “I’m looking forward to this opportunity to gain valuable experience alongside exceptional mentors and senior artists. I also have big concerns about how I can contribute and provide assistance. I’ll approach this with the goal to offer my help as best as I can to as many people as possible.”

The production team also expressed their confidence in Daesung, stating, “We believe that ‘Living Legend’ gained even more credibility with the inclusion of Daesung, who possesses unparalleled expertise and dedication to music. Starting with Daesung, we will continue to unveil special national producers who are a perfect fit for the scale of ‘Living Legend.’ We kindly request your ongoing interest in the upcoming lineup for ‘Living Legend.'”

“Living Legend” is scheduled to air in the second half of 2023. Fans are also eagerly awaiting Daesung’s return to the variety show scene.
