The rumors began on January 31, alleging that Lay Zhang and Zhao Lusi’s cars were parked at a hotel, and the two left the premises within a short time frame of 10 minutes.

Responding to the gossip, Lay Zhang’s statement refuted the claims, emphasizing that there is no truth to the speculation surrounding a hotel rendezvous with the Chinese actress.

Lay Zhang, who debuted as a member of EXO in 2012, has been a prominent figure in the K-pop scene. While he departed from SM Entertainment in 2022, he remains a member of EXO. Last year, his TikTok activity further confirmed his ongoing connection with the group, particularly through the “The First Snow” challenge.

Participating in the TikTok challenge, Lay showcased his dance moves and added a personal touch by forming the iconic “E-X-O” with his hands. This engagement delighted fans, leading to a surge in streaming for “The First Snow,” resulting in a notable presence on the Melon Daily Chart. The trending of keywords such as “E-X-O,” “EXO Lay,” and “First Snow” on various social media platforms reinforced Lay’s continued involvement with and support for EXO.

Meanwhile, Chinese actress Zhao Lusi rose to fame with her debut in 2016 and gained widespread recognition through roles in popular Chinese dramas like “Who Rules The World,” “The Long Ballad,” and “Love Like The Galaxy.”

While the rumors caused a stir among fans, Lay Zhang’s prompt response has helped quell the speculations, allowing the focus to remain on his musical endeavors and continued engagement with the EXO community.

Baekhyun, Chen, and Xiumin of EXO to Manage Solo, Unit Activities Under I&B100

Baekhyun, Chen and Xiumin of the K-pop boy group EXO announced on Monday, January 8, their decision to manage their solo activities under I&B100, Baekhyun’s independent label.

Also known as the sub-unit CBX, the trio are set to introduce the members’ individual activities under I&B100. Moreover, they will also be more active with unit activities now that they’re in a separate label.  

In the group’s press release, I&B100 also revealed their plans to revive the members’ musical personalities. As the trio are already entering their 13th year in the industry, the agency shared that the EXO members have been pondering more about their future career plans. 

With this, the move will serve as a starting point for Baekhyun, Chen and Xiumin to experiment and participate more in the artistic process of doing music, including writing and producing songs. According to the agency, it’s the members’ “longtime dreams” to do so. 

“The start of this label is based on long-standing deliberation and aspirations of the members,” IB&100 added.

To note, I&B100 is an agency Baekhyun established himself in June 2023. With Chen and Xiumin also signing under the label, fans are anticipating to see more of CBX activities this year.

After the announcement, Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin have now opened their individual social media accounts. Additionally, the agency also posted their first series of solo photos. 

EXO to continue future activities with SM Entertainment

Although the three members are now set to handle their own activities, Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin reassured fans that they will continue their group activities with EXO. 

Through a social media post, SM Entertainment commented about the direction of the K-pop boy group.  “Going forward, all eight members of EXO will continue activities together as EXO,” they said. 

Aside from showcasing new music and performances, the label also teased that the group has plans to stage a fan meeting in April. 

According to SM Entertainment, the exclusive contracts of Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin are still valid with the agreement to allow them to independently conduct personal activities. To recall, CBX previously filed a lawsuit against the label in June 2023. But both parties reached a settlement after a few weeks.

Aside from CBX, member D.O. (Do Kyungsoo) has also parted ways with the agency in  October 2023. Since then, he has pursued activities under Company SooSoo. However, SM Entertainment shared that the “That’s Okay” singer has agreed to participate in EXO’s activities and is currently in ongoing discussions about their future schedules.

EXO’s Baekhyun Rumored to Establish Own Agency

From being an outstanding performer, Baekhyun of the K-pop boy group EXO is now rumored to take on a new venture in his career. This time, as an agency owner and a CEO. 

On Wednesday, January 3, several Korean media outlets reported that Baekhyun has launched his own label, I&B100. According to Tenasia, the idol has already completed the formal registration of the company. Moreover, the artist has also allegedly formed its team of internal directors in the label.

To recall, reports about I&B100 first made headlines last year as the EXO vocalist allegedly established the agency in June 2023.

Furthermore, the same report by Tenasia also claimed that his fellow EXO members, Chen and Xiumin, will also be joining the said label. 

However, neither Baekhyun nor SM Entertainment have yet to address the reports about the label. 

If proven to be true, I&B100 will be Baekhyun’s second owned company. In August 2023, the singer revealed that he set up One Signature with his friend Kasper. Notably, the EXO member said that the agency aims to produce good choreographers and dancers.

As there’s no confirmation yet about Baekhyun’s agency I&B100, EXO fans are worried as to what it means for the group. Especially considering how there’s several huge changes in EXO for 2023 alone. 

SM Entertainment’s earlier statement abouts Baekhyun and EXO

To note, Baekyun, Chen, and Xiumin filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment in June. The EXO-CBX sub-unit cited unclear handling of earnings and slave contracts as their motivation. However, both parties have reached a settlement after an almost three-week legal battle. 

In August, Baekhyun revealed his plans to establish an agency in a live broadcast on Instagram. With that, he also clarified that he will remain with EXO. “I will be operating a company while staying with SM Entertainment. And continue to be active with EXO members,” he said.

Moreover, SM Entertainment also released a statement saying that their exclusive contract for the three EXO members are still in place. “We cannot reveal the specific conditions. But in accordance with the agreement with the company, we have made it possible for the three members to engage in their individual activities,” they added.

In October 2023, SM Entertainment confirmed that EXO member D.O will have his contract expired by November. Shortly after, it was announced that D.O. will be pursuing his acting and individual activities through Company SooSoo. Despite being in a new agency, SM Entertainment emphasized that D.O. will still continue his EXO activities under them. 

Given the situation with D.O, it appeared that it might also be the case for Baekhyun should the rumors of his new agency be true. Which means that the group’s fandom, EXO-Ls, can be reassured that EXO will continue to perform together despite being under separate agencies.

EXO’s ‘First Snow’ Tops Music Charts 10 Years Since Its Release

EXO-Ls, your favorite holiday track is back on the charts! 10 years since its release, EXO’s song “First Snow” has made an appearance in multiple music charts in South Korea as the winter season came.

To recall, the said song is part of the boy group’s 2013 album Miracle in December.

Remarkably, “First Snow” clinched the top spots in numerous charts beating more recent tracks. The list includes bagging the song’s first win in the music show Music Bank, achieving a double crown in Circle Charts, and hitting the No.1 spot in streaming platforms like Bug and Flo.

Considering it has been a decade since the song’s release, the EXO members have expressed their gratitude to the love “First Snow” has been receiving lately.

On the group’s official social media account, EXO made sure to thank their loyal fanbase, EXO-Ls. “It’s all thanks to EXO-L that we’re ending 2023 with first place,” they wrote.

“We celebrated our chart success together”, the group’s leader Suho said as he shared his appreciation through their agency SM Entertainment.

“At first, we were surprised to see our song’s performance on the charts but we are all enjoying it. We want to thank our fans and hope they can have a warm year-end season with our track,” he added.

EXO and the entire K-pop industry joins the ‘First Snow’ challenge

To celebrate the wins, the EXO members gifted the fans clips of them joining the famous “First Snow” dance challenge.

The group’s sub-unit CBX composed of members Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin participated in the trend together. On social media, fans shared their excitement upon seeing the trio back again.

On their personal Instagram accounts, Suho, Chanyeol, and Sehun also posted separate videos of them dancing to the challenge in the snow. Moreover, the members also sent their holiday greetings for the fans on their captions.

 

Aside from the EXO members themselves, numerous K-Pop idols from different groups also joined the challenge. Among those who participated are EXO’s fellow labelmates Karina and Giselle of aespa, Irene and Yeri of Red Velvet, and the entire NCT Dream. 

Moreover, groups from other agencies including TWICE, SEVENTEEN, Treasure, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, Ateez, The Boyz, among many others joined as well.

Because of the widespread engagement of the track on the platform Tiktok, “First Snow” has reentered the music charts. Such achievement proves that the timeless B-Side track is indeed everyone’s seasonal favorite.

EXO’s Sehun to Enlist in Military on December 21

Sehun of K-pop boy group EXO has announced that he will be starting his mandatory military service on December 21. 

In a handwritten letter posted on Weverse on December 13, the singer told fans about the news. “I feel sorry for delivering the news to EXO-L (EXO’s official fan club) so late,” he wrote, according to a translation by Soompi. 

“These days, I’ve been spending time alone, looking after myself and deeply contemplating. As a result, I’m greeting you like this [through a letter] without standing in front of you,” Sehun added. 

Reflecting on his solitude and introspection, the EXO member conveyed his regret at not being able to bid farewell to his fans in person. With this, he expressed his gratitude for the constant support of his fans. “I am really thankful to everyone who cares for me,” he wrote. 

Moreover, Sehun also assured his fans that he’ll stay safe during his service and will return as a better person. “I hope everyone stays healthy until the day we meet again. I will come back in good health,” he concluded his post. 

With Sehun being the youngest member of the group, he’ll be the last member of EXO to enlist.

Other EXO members, including Xiumin, D.O., Suho, Chen, Chanyeol, and Baekhyun, have all completed their respective mandatory military service. Meanwhile, Kai enlisted in May.

Both Kai and Sehun are expected to finish their services by 2025.

Prior to announcing his enlistment, Sehun has been busy with sub-unit activities with Chanyeol for EXO-SC. In the first half of 2023, the duo embarked on their Back to Back fan concert tour, which had several stops across Asia. 

Aside from idol activities, Sehun was also busy with acting as he starred in the series All That We Loved. 

As for group activities, EXO made their highly-anticipated comeback in July with the seventh full-length album EXIST. Said album served as EXO’s first album as a full-group in two years, following the extended play Don’t Fight This Feeling that was released in June 2021. 

On top of that, EXO also released the fourth season of their hit variety show Travel the World on a Ladder. 

In October, it was rumored that Sehun and Chanyeol will be moving to another agency. But SM Entertainment was quick to deny the news.

SM Entertainment Launches 2024 Global Auditions

Ever dreamed of being the next K-pop superstar? Well, here’s the chance you’ve been waiting for to be labelmates with SM Entertainment artists. 

In a 20-second video clip released on Tuesday, December 12, SM Entertainment has officially launched its 2024 Global Auditions. 

As per the details posted, anyone born from 2005 to 2013, regardless of gender or nationality, are welcome to apply. Notably, young aspirants will then be evaluated in the categories of vocal, dance, rap and acting.

Moreover, the auditions will kick off in Seoul on January 6, 2024. After that, there will also be auditions held across several cities in South Korea including Daegu, Busan, Daejeon, Gwangju, Gangwon, Wonju and Jeju Island. 

Bringing the auditions to a global scale, SM Entertainment will also reach various countries including Thailand, Japan, Canada, and USA. According to the schedule released, the international auditions will be held between February to March 2024. 

After the first round of online registration, applicants who passed the initial screening will be invited for an on-site audition. Then, the final winners will get the opportunity to get trained or sign an exclusive contract with the renowned agency.

In addition, the application period for the said talent search event will only be from January to March 2024. Aspirants can send their application and learn more about the opportunity through SM Entertainment’s global site.

EXO’s D.O. Confirmed for Revenge Drama with Ji Chang Wook

EXO’s D.O. and Ji Chang Wook are in discussions to share the screen in an upcoming drama titled “Sculptured City” with a reported production cost of 35 billion won (approximately $26.4 million). The revenge drama is set to be Do Kyung Soo’s first project since signing with a new agency.

According to industry insiders on November 13, both actors are considering roles in the revenge-themed drama. In related news, D.O’s new agency Company Soosoo has issued a statement confirming they are taking legal action against malicious posts about the EXO member and their other affiliated artists. Do Kyung Soo previously left SM Entertainment but will continue promoting as a member of the group. His other activities will be represented by Company Soosoo.
