Fifty Fifty Members Take Legal Action Against Agency ATTRAKT, Seeking Contract Suspension

All four members of the emerging K-pop girl group Fifty Fifty have filed a lawsuit to halt their contracts with the agency ATTRAKT.

The group’s legal representative, law firm BARUN, released an official statement confirming that they have submitted an application to the Seoul Central District Court on June 19, requesting provisional disposition to suspend the validity of their exclusive contracts.

According to the statement, the members cited contract breaches and a breakdown of trust for their legal action. They alleged that ATTRAKT violated the terms of the agreement and engaged in actions that damaged their relationship. The ongoing trial is currently addressing these claims.

The group’s legal representative further highlighted that they had raised concerns with ATTRAKT and requested corrective measures.

However, instead of addressing the issues, the agency allegedly discredited the members through continuous media coverage and accused them of attempting extortion. Additionally, ATTRAKT reportedly disclosed personal medical information about one of the members without her consent.

The statement also outlined instances where the agency failed to fulfill its contractual obligations, including non-transparent settlements and unilateral attempts to enforce scheduled activities despite the members’ poor health conditions.

Emphasizing that their decision to take legal action was independent and without external influence, the four members expressed their desire for ATTRAKT to refrain from slandering them in the future. They expressed their eagerness to reconnect with their fans as soon as possible.

Earlier, ATTRAKT had announced on June 23 that they would be pursuing legal action against “external influences” that allegedly induced their artists to breach valid exclusive contracts.

While initially did not disclose the agency involved, they later named Warner Music Korea the “external force” approaching the Fifty Fifty members. Warner Music Korea denied the allegations, dismissing ATTRAKT’s claims as baseless.

On June 27, ATTRAKT announced that they had filed criminal charges against their former co-CEO Ahn Sung II and three others, accusing them of fraud, breach of duty, and obstruction of business.

Meanwhile, fans continue to express their support for the girl band, calling out those who continue to support mistreatment in the industry.

Fifty Fifty, consisting of Saena, Keena, Aran, and Sio, debuted in November 2022 and gained recognition for their song “Cupid.” Prior to the issues, they have also been named as one of the leading music contributors for the highly-anticipated Hollywood movie, “Barbie.”

FIFTY FIFTY’s Agency Files Criminal Charges Against SIAHN

ATTRAKT is taking legal action against its former co-CEO. FIFTY FIFTY‘s agency has announced that it has filed a criminal complaint with the police against Ahn Sung Il, who is also known as SIAHN.

FIFTY FIFTY’s Agency Files Criminal Complaint Against SIAHN

According to the statement, ATTRAKT has filed a criminal complaint at the Gangnam Police Station against Ahn Sung Il and the three other individuals. The complaint cites “fraud, breach of duty, and obstruction of business” as SIAHN’s illegal acts.

Ahn Sung Il is the CEO of creative content development group The Givers but it was indicated that he is the former co-CEO of ATTRAKT.

The agency explained that The Givers had been working on and managing projects for ATTRAKT. However it also accused Ahn Sung Il of “committing acts of fraud and obstruction of business including delaying the handover of work, deleting company email accounts, and deleting material related to past projects.”

“Furthermore, in the process of purchasing the song Cupid from a foreign songwriter, The Givers did not provide ATTRAKT with information about the copyright purchase, and they secretly purchased the copyright in their or their company’s name without our knowledge,” the statement read.

It was also indicated that ATTRAKT believes SIAHN and the three other individuals are involved in other illegal acts. “We may file additional [criminal] complaints as well,” the statement confirms.

ATTRAKT had previously announced that it would be taking legal action against a then-unnamed third party that had allegedly approached FIFTY FIFTY with the intent to persuade the girl group into violating their exclusive contracts with their current agency.

“Through slanderous accusations against us and glorified flattery about themselves, these external forces are committing an illegal act of inducing our agency’s artists to make the wrong decision to ignore their valid exclusive contracts and sign contracts with them,” the agency said in a statement.

FIFTY FIFTY’s Agency Addresses ‘Cupid’ Plagiarism Allegations

FIFTY FIFTY’s agency has finally broken its silence. ATTRAKT has addressed the plagiarism allegations on the girl group’s hit song “Cupid”.

FIFTY FIFTY’s Agency ATTRAKT Finally Addresses ‘Cupid’ Plagiarism Allegations

ATTRAKT issued a statement regarding the plagiarism allegations on FIFTY FIFTY’s hit “Cupid”. The agency confirmed that they have consulted with the composer of the song who denied that they plagiarized a different track.

We checked with the original producer after the recent media mention of plagiarism accusations against FIFTY FIFTY’s ‘Cupid’, and we found the original producer doesn’t even know the Turkish song in question,” the statement read.

There are similarities in terms of the characteristics of pop music, but we don’t think it’s plagiarism,” it continued.

“Cupid” was composed by Adam von Mentzer, Mac Felländer-Tsai, and Louise Udin. Von Mentzer previously worked on the song “Lovin’ Me” from FIFTY FIFTY’s 2022 EP ‘Higher’.

The plagiarism allegations surfaced online after “Cupid” was released in February 2023. Netizens pointed out that the song sounded like the 2017 song “Sen Askimizdan” by Turkish singer Evrencan Gunduz.

Not surprisingly, Evrencan Gunduz took note of the song. The Turkish artist seemingly accused FIFTY FIFTY of plagiarizing his song in an Instagram post.
