Sowon Says GFRIEND Has NOT Disbanded

Sowon just dropped some hopeful news for fans. The GFRIEND leader has revealed that the group has not disbanded and even teased the group’s possible reunion.

GFRIEND Leader Sowon Says Group Has NOT Disbanded

Sowon recently made an appearance in a YouTube video on the channel Kiu기우쌤, where she got her hair done by the renowned YouTuber-hairdresser Lee Sung Gyu. During this session, Sowon and Lee engaged in a heartfelt and candid conversation about the members of GFRIEND and their current activities.

Sowon spoke about how all the members recently attended a VIVIZ concert together. She expressed how enjoyable it was for all the members to reunite at the concert, noting that this was their first meeting in two months. This regular interaction demonstrates the strong bond that the GFRIEND members continue to share, despite their different professional paths.

Lee brought up the topic of fans who still hope for GFRIEND to reunite officially. Sowon clarified a common misconception by stating that GFRIEND never truly disbanded. Instead, their exclusive contract with Source Music had ended, which led them to pursue individual activities. She emphasized that the group’s spirit and connection remain intact.

Sowon also shared insights into how the members continue to support each other’s performances. They frequently exchange opinions and critiques, which helps them stay connected to their roots as performers. She mentioned that she personally continues to practice diligently, fueled by her conviction that she will one day perform on stage with GFRIEND again.

When is the GFRIEND Reunion?

When Lee suggested the idea of GFRIEND joining VIVIZ on stage for a performance during their concert, Sowon gracefully declined. She felt that it was important for the spotlight to remain on VIVIZ during their concerts. For a potential GFRIEND comeback, Sowon expressed her desire to go all out, hinting that a proper reunion would be a grand affair rather than a surprise cameo.

GFRIEND made their debut in 2015 with the iconic song “Glass Bead,” which quickly captivated audiences with its powerful choreography and perfect vocals. The group continued to dominate the charts with hits like “Me Gustas Tu,” “Time For The Moon Night,” and “MAGO.” Their final song, “MAGO,” was released in 2021 before they announced their departure from Source Music. Despite this, the group’s legacy endures, and their bond remains as strong as ever.

Sowon’s discussion with Lee Sung Gyu provided fans with a heartening update on GFRIEND, reinforcing the hope that the beloved group may grace the stage together again in the future.

GFRIEND Members Get Awesome Reunion at VIVIZ Concert

The GFRIEND love is still going strong, demonstrating the enduring bond between the members even after their official disbandment. This past weekend, VIVIZ—consisting of GFRIEND members Eunha, SinB, and Umji—held their first-ever concerts in Seoul, marking the kickoff of their 2024 world tour “V.hind : Love and Tears.”

All 6 GFRIEND Members Reunite with Former Choreographer

On June 1, all six original GFRIEND members reunited for the first night of VIVIZ’s concert. Sowon, Yerin, and Yuju attended the event to show their unwavering support for their fellow bandmates. This heartwarming reunion was a significant moment for fans, who were thrilled to see the entire group together again, reinforcing their strong camaraderie and mutual support.

Additionally, Park Jun Hee, the choreographer responsible for many of GFRIEND’s iconic early choreographies for hits such as “Me Gustas Tu,” “Rough,” and “Navillera,” also attended the concert. His presence added a nostalgic touch to the event, bringing back memories of GFRIEND’s early days and their rise to fame.

The following day, Park Jun Hee took to Instagram to share several photos from the concert, including a cherished group photo taken backstage with all the GFRIEND members. This gesture further highlighted the enduring relationships and professional respect within the group and their extended creative team.

The Rise and Fall of GFRIEND

GFRIEND was formed by Source Music in 2015 and quickly gained popularity with their debut extended play (EP) ‘Season of Glass’ released on January 15, 2015. The group, consisting of members Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji, won several female rookie awards early in their career, building a strong fanbase despite being from a smaller company. Their success was driven by their catchy songs, synchronized choreography, and relatable, girl-next-door image.

However, GFRIEND disbanded on May 22, 2021, after all members chose not to renew their contracts with Source Music. This decision marked the end of an era for the fans but also the beginning of new chapters for each member. Eunha, SinB, and Umji, determined to continue their musical journey together, signed with BPM Entertainment and formed the group VIVIZ in 2022.

The recent reunion at VIVIZ’s concert and the support from all GFRIEND members reflect the lasting bond and friendship that transcends their official activities as a group. Their continued collaboration and public appearances together also provide fans with moments of nostalgia and joy, proving that the spirit of GFRIEND lives on through their individual and collective endeavors.

Yuju Pushes For GFriend Reunion

Yuju is hoping to see her old friends again really soon. The former GFriend member recently spoke about her hopes to reunite with Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, SinB, and Umji. Not surprisingly, she isn’t the only one pushing for a GFriend reunion in the future!

Yuju Wants A GFriend Reunion To Happen Soon

In a recent interview, former GFriend member Yuju expressed her enduring dedication to GFriend’s legacy and her deep affection for her fellow group members. Since her departure from GFriend in January of last year, Yuju has been pursuing her solo career, which has allowed her to explore new musical directions while cherishing the memories and bonds formed during her time with the group.

“During my time with GFriend, my role was well-defined. I was responsible for performing the powerful sections and delivering the climax in most songs. Now, as a solo artist, my task is to relay the entire narrative of a song on my own,” she said. “I attach immense importance to the lyrical aspect of music, ensuring its message is successfully communicated to my audience.”

Yuju shared her strong commitment to continue her solo journey, even if it means her accomplishments may differ from those achieved as part of GFriend. Her determination to grow as an artist while honoring the group’s legacy remains unwavering.

“Deciding to go solo was by no means a quick and easy decision,” she said. “Despite having been in the industry for quite a few years, as a solo artist, I am essentially starting afresh, much like a rookie. I don’t harbor unrealistic expectations to instantaneously reach the heights we scaled as GFriend. Even though it might take more time, I am convinced of the importance of sincerity and authenticity in this journey.

Additionally, in a previous interview, fellow GFriend member Yerin had expressed her excitement about the possibility of collaborating with Yuju in the future, keeping the hopes of fans alive for a potential reunion or joint project between the two talented artists.

“We often converse about how wonderful it would be to perform together again,” Yuju said in response. “We all know that this day will certainly arrive but prefer not to prematurely speculate about when.”

So when can we expect a GFriend reunion? For now, there has been no official announcement as the other members are also busy with their own promotions. For instance, VIVIZ is also active these days. Still, fans are hoping that the members will reunite soon.
