Kang Daniel Wins First Trial For Criminal Suit Against Sojang

Kang Daniel’s agency, ARA, has announced its intention to file a civil complaint after winning the first criminal lawsuit against the controversial YouTuber Sojang.

Kang Daniel Announces Plans to Pursue Civil Lawsuit Against Sojang

On September 11, the agency revealed that the court had ruled in their favor in the initial trial against the YouTuber, who had been accused of spreading false and defamatory information about the singer. ARA further stated that regardless of whether the defendant appeals the criminal verdict, they plan to pursue a civil lawsuit seeking 100 million KRW (approximately $74,644 USD) in damages.

“Regardless of whether the shameless defendant appeals, we will file a civil lawsuit for 100 million won, separate from the criminal proceedings,” the statement read. “This is the minimum defense to prevent further innocent victims and to ensure such incidents do not recur. We believe that malicious defamation and profit-making through such actions should be met with strong civil and criminal accountability as they leave lasting wounds that are not easily healed even after all judicial procedures are completed.”

Sojang, a well-known figure in K-pop online communities, has previously been involved in legal battles with other celebrities and their agencies. Earlier this year, in May, it was reported that the YouTuber, identified by the surname Park, was indicted by the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office on charges of defamation and insult. This case involved allegations of defaming several public figures, including IVE’s Wonyoung.

Wonyoung’s case against Sojang began in October 2023, when her agency, Starship Entertainment, filed a lawsuit citing malicious content posted by the YouTuber. In January 2024, the court partially ruled in Wonyoung’s favor, ordering Park to pay 100 million KRW in damages. However, Park attempted to delay the enforcement of the court’s decision by filing for a stay of execution.

As these legal battles continue, the outcomes send a strong message about the serious consequences of spreading harmful and defamatory content online, especially targeting celebrities.

Kang Daniel Finds New Agency After KONNECT Departure

On July 25, ARA (Artistic Round Alliance), a comprehensive entertainment company, announced that they have signed an exclusive contract with the singer. ARA was founded by a director with experience at YG Entertainment, BIGHIT MUSIC, and KONNECT Entertainment, bringing a wealth of industry knowledge and expertise to the table.

A representative for ARA expressed the company’s excitement about having Kang on board.

“We cherish every bit of support from the fans at this new starting point. We will provide full support to ensure Kang Daniel can focus on his activities and, most importantly, prioritize communication with fans above all.”

He concluded, “We ask for your warm support.”

What Happened to KONNECT Entertainment?

The move comes after Kang Daniel announced in June that he had parted ways with KONNECT Entertainment, the agency he established five years ago. During his time with the agency, Kang Daniel not only nurtured his solo career but also developed the agency’s roster.

The decision to leave the company was part of a larger shift, as other notable departures from the agency included GFriend member Yuju, who concluded her association in mid-April, and the dance team WE DEM BOYZ, who ended their contract in November 2023, just a year after signing. Additionally, singer and producer Chancellor also parted ways with KONNECT, further signaling changes within the agency.

Following his departure from KONNECT, Kang Daniel reportedly received numerous offers from major labels and leading agencies. Despite these opportunities, he chose to remain loyal to the staff he had been working with for a long time, showing his commitment and trust in his existing team. His decision to join ARA is also seen as a strategic move, aligning with a team that shares his vision and values, ensuring a supportive environment for his future projects.

Fans are also excited about this new chapter in Kang Daniel’s career, looking forward to the fresh opportunities and music that will emerge from his collaboration with ARA.

Kang Daniel’s KONNECT Entertainment Loses All Artists

In a shocking turn of events, KONNECT Entertainment, the agency founded by popular K-pop artist Kang Daniel, is teetering on the brink of closure. Reports have surfaced indicating that all of the company’s artists are either in the process of leaving or have already parted ways with the agency. This includes Kang Daniel himself, who formed KONNECT Entertainment in June 2019 and also held the position of CEO and artist within the company.

KONNECT Entertainment Faces Uncertain Future as Artists Depart

The departure of artists from KONNECT Entertainment has been revealed through an exclusive report by Star News. GFriend member Yuju, who became part of the agency in September 2021, is said to have concluded her association with the agency in mid-April. Additionally, the dance team WE DEM BOYZ, which inked a deal with the agency in November 2022, made the decision to terminate their contract just a year later, expressing their intent to part ways in November 2023. Furthermore, singer and producer Chancellor has also reportedly bid adieu to the company.

The turmoil within KONNECT Entertainment escalates further as it is disclosed that the majority owner of the agency, holding a substantial 70% stake, is embroiled in a legal battle with Kang Daniel. The lawsuit alleges the individual of engaging in the falsification of documents, embezzlement of funds from the company, and other serious charges. As a result, Kang Daniel is anticipated to let go of his ties with KONNECT Entertainment upon the expiration of his contract in early June, in addition to relinquishing his role as CEO.

Is Kang Daniel’s Agency Closing Down?

With the departure of all its artists and the impending exit of its founder and CEO, KONNECT Entertainment is poised to cease its operations. This development has sent shockwaves through the music industry and has left fans and industry insiders speculating about the future of KONNECT Entertainment. The departure of Kang Daniel and the other artists from the agency raises questions about their next career moves and the impact of these significant changes on the K-pop landscape.

As the situation continues to unfold, many are closely watching for further developments and hoping for a resolution that ensures the well-being of the artists and staff associated with KONNECT Entertainment. The future of the agency and its artists also remains uncertain, and the K-pop community eagerly awaits clarity on how this unprecedented turn of events will shape the industry.
