LE SSERAFIM’s Sakura Performs AKB48 Song at Japanese Fan Meeting

Sakura’s iconic song “Yume de Kiss me!” was a highlight at LE SSERAFIM’s first fan meeting in Japan. Titled LE SSERAFIM FAN MEETING ‘FEARNADA’ 2024 S/S – JAPAN, the event took place at the Kobe World Memorial Hall on June 29 and 30. The fan meeting featured a wide range of activities that kept fans entertained for almost two hours.

The fan meeting saw the girl group’s five members—Hong Eunchae, Huh Yunjin, Kazuha, Kim Chaewon, and Sakura herself—acting as superheroes out to fix problems faced by their fans, FEARNOT. Each member got a chance to showcase their unique talents, and Sakura’s performance of “Yume de Kiss me!” stood out as a special moment.

Synonymous with Sakura

“Yume de Kiss me!” is a solo song from AKB48’s Team A 7th Stage “M.T. ni Sasagu” setlist. It was one of many stages Sakura and the other members of AKB48’s Team A would perform at their theater, located in the Don Quijote building in Akihabara, Tokyo. Written by Yasushi Akimoto (who also wrote IZ*ONE’s Japanese songs), composed by Rie, and arranged by Ikuta Machine, the song has become synonymous with Sakura among AKB48 fans, as she was the first to perform it.

This isn’t the first time LE SSERAFIM has brought back “Yume de Kiss me!” at a fan meeting. On March 19, at their FEARNADA 2023 fan meeting at the Olympic Park in Seoul, the other members surprised Sakura with a performance of the song on her 25th birthday. They also presented her with a cake and tiara.

Improved vocals

Overall, the fan meeting saw LE SSERAFIM perform ten songs, including hits like “Smart,” “Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard’s Wife” and “EASY.” They also performed Japan-specific tracks like “Choices” from their first Japanese single FEARLESS. Additionally, they thrilled fans with renditions of “1-800-hot-n-fun” and “Jewelry (Prod. Imase),” which they performed in Japan for the first time.

It was during the game segment that Sakura, backed by Hong Eunchae and Kazuha, got up to perform “Yume de Kiss me!” for the crowd. Fans noted that the recording she danced to was different from previous versions of the song. However, they couldn’t put their finger on why. It wasn’t until later, during a live broadcast after the show, that the group revealed Sakura re-recorded the song. Fans praised her for her improved vocals.

Following Kobe and two performances in Nagoya, the tour will continue on July 13-15 at Pia Arena MM in Kanagawa, and July 30-31 at Marine Messe Fukuoka Hall A. Hopefully, Sakura keeps performing “Yume de Kiss me!” at every stop! – K-Pop News Writer

LE SSERAFIM Sakura Addresses Coachella 2024 Live Singing Controversy

The controversy surrounding LE SSERAFIM’s performance at Coachella 2024 has ignited a fierce debate within the K-Pop community, shedding light on the standards of live performances in the industry. Since then, Sakura has addressed the live singing controversy but netizens are not convinced.

Sakura Shares Heartfelt Post About LE SSERAFIM’s Live Singing Controversy

The group’s highly anticipated appearance at the renowned music festival quickly turned into a hot topic as viewers dissected their performance and vocal abilities. A viral video that surfaced, showcasing the group’s vocals without the backing tracks, only intensified the scrutiny and criticism.

Sakura, a member of LE SSERAFIM, recently addressed the backlash indirectly, expressing pride in her team’s efforts and gratitude towards supportive fans. However, her remarks failed to quell the skepticism and disappointment among Korean netizens, who questioned whether mere effort was enough to justify a lackluster performance on such a prestigious global stage.

“I seriously prepared for this stage, struggled through it, and enjoyed it. On the day of the show, I believe I was able to show everything. To some eyes, it might appear immature, but no one is perfect for everyone, and it is an undeniable fact that, among all the stages we have shown, this was the best. That’s why I’m very excited to become a better team, and I really want to work even harder,” Sakura wrote.

Netizens React to Sakura’s Statement

The topic has generated significant traction on online forums, with thousands of comments pouring in and opinions sharply divided.

On one side of the debate, loyal fans have rallied behind the group, pointing to their perceived improvements and growth over time. They argue that harsh criticism overlooks the dedication and hard work put in by the members. Conversely, critics argue that professional standards should not be compromised, especially on a stage as prominent as Coachella. They emphasize the importance of delivering polished performances that meet the expectations of global audiences.

The controversy surrounding LE SSERAFIM’s Coachella performance underscores broader discussions about talent, effort, and public perception in the competitive world of K-Pop. It raises important questions about the balance between acknowledging progress and holding artists accountable for their onstage performances. As the discourse continues to unfold, it serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges faced by idols in the pursuit of success in the fiercely competitive entertainment industry.

Sakura Adds Personal Touch to LE SSERAFIM’s ‘M Countdown’ Stage

LE SSERAFIM’s Sakura has not only dazzled fans with her performance skills but also with her adeptness at crocheting, transforming her hobby into stunning accessories and stage outfits. She took up crocheting last year, finding it the perfect activity to occupy her during downtime in waiting rooms. She became so good at it that she even crafted hats for TWICE’s Mina, Sana, and Momo. Each hat took her about three to four hours to complete, showcasing her dedication and focus. She also made a special present for someone’s dog.

What else has Sakura made?

Sakura’s focus is evident in how she once spent five continuous hours crocheting on a flight to the US without any distractions. Her dedication was highlighted last week when she revealed that she had crocheted her top for a Music Bank performance of LE SSERAFIM’s new single, “Easy.” (It’s the title track of their third mini album.)

The top, which she made with various crochet techniques to incorporate the song’s title into its design, impressed fans. Many said it looked professionally made. When Sakura posted photos of herself wearing it on Instagram, they showered her with comments and likes, praising her craftsmanship and fashion sense.

The admiration for Sakura’s crocheting talent also extended to LE SSERAFIM’s “Smart” performance on M Countdown, where each member appeared in beautifully crocheted tops and skirts, complete with matching accessories. Initially, fans believed Sakura had crafted every piece. It was later clarified, however, that she had made only some of the items.

Sakura later shared pictures of the pieces she did make, further showcasing her talent and adding a personal touch to LE SSERAFIM’s stage.

Dedication can lead to proficiency

The ability to use one’s artistic vision to create something from nothing is both challenging and rewarding. Crocheting involves mastering various stitches and techniques. Beginners typically start with simpler projects, such as scarves or dishcloths, to become acquainted with the yarn and hook. The fact that Sakura can now produce items that she and others can wear indicates she has reached at least an intermediate, if not advanced, level. This skill, like any, has a learning curve. Despite that, Sakura’s rapid advancement in crafting complex items within a year demonstrates that dedication can lead to proficiency.

LE SSERAFIM’s Sakura Compares Her Japanese and Korean Promotions

Source Music’s LE SSERAFIM recently made a comeback with their third mini album, EASY. As part of their ongoing promotions, leader Kim Chaewon and Miyawaki Sakura appeared on comedian Yoo Jae Suk’s YouTube show, Pinggyego. They discussed their early years in the K-pop industry and what it’s like to be in a group together for the second time (they were previously in IZ*ONE together).

Sakura has been an idol for over a decade. She debuted with Japan’s HKT48 in 2011, then with IZ*ONE in 2018, and finally with LE SSERAFIM in 2022. During the conversation, Sakura compared her experiences promoting in Japan and South Korea.

When Sakura was in HKT48, she also held a concurrent position in AKB48. At its peak, the 48 Group, which includes AKB48 and its sister groups, had over 600 members. This number reflects the collective total across all the groups within the franchise, including teams based outside Japan. The extensive membership is more than just a characteristic; it’s a crucial part of how these groups perform and market themselves.

(Watch this performance of “Kimi wa Melody,” an AKB48 single for which Sakura was the center, to get an idea of how large their roster can be.)

A significant shift for Sakura

The scale of the 48 Group, while enhancing fan engagement by offering a diverse array of personalities for fans to support, made it challenging for individual members to form close relationships within the supergroup. It wasn’t unusual for Sakura to encounter fellow members at concerts or other events whom she hadn’t met before. This situation highlights the logistical and social complexities of being part of such a large ensemble.

Transitioning to being in groups like IZ*ONE and LE SSERAFIM marked a significant shift for Sakura. In a smaller setup, the dynamics are inherently different, allowing for closer interaction and collaboration among members. This fosters stronger bonds, contrasting sharply with Sakura’s time in the 48 Group.

For Sakura, the difference in the number of members she performs with now versus her days as a J-pop idol represents the biggest contrast between her Japanese and Korean promotions. She expressed relief that these days, it’s easier for her to understand her fellow members, and she’ll never have to worry about not knowing a fellow member again. – K-Pop News Writer

Miyawaki Sakura Explains Why She’s Not LE SSERAFIM’s Leader

In a revealing interview with Yoo Jae Suk on Pinggyego, LE SSERAFIM members Sakura and Chaewon opened up about various aspects of their idol lives, from their hectic schedules to their group dynamics. A significant part of the conversation centered on Chaewon’s role as the group’s leader, a position that comes with its own set of challenges and responsibilities.

Leaders in K-pop groups often act as the glue that holds the members together. They represent the group to the public and the company. They also frequently find themselves in the spotlight during interviews and other public appearances. Chaewon shared her thoughts on what it means to be LE SSERAFIM’s leader. “Having the title of leader is a burden to carry, but I think that kind of pressure keeps me productive,” she remarked.

She revealed that Source Music appointed her the leader just before LE SSERAFIM’s debut, a decision that wasn’t made through voting but rather recommended by the company itself. “They asked me, and I agreed to it. I said that I wanted to lead this group well,” Chaewon explained.

Sakura shed light on her stance

Given South Korea’s hierarchical culture, it’s common for the oldest member of a K-pop group to automatically assume the leadership role. This prompted Yoo Jae Suk to inquire why Sakura, born in 1998 and the eldest in the group, was not the leader, especially when Chaewon was born in 2000.

Sakura’s response shed light on her stance regarding leadership. She revealed her strong disinterest in being a leader, which led her to ask for a clause in her contract that would keep her from assuming the position. “It wasn’t because I was afraid,” she explained. “If the oldest person becomes the leader, then the others might feel uneasy.”

Chaewon supported Sakura’s reasoning, noting that their team’s current structure, with defined roles for the eldest member and the leader, works for LE SSERAFIM. “But I think it’s good for us. Having a leader is also like having an older sister. A leader could get burnt out carrying all the weight. So it’s nice to have an older sister to lean on,” Chaewon added.  – K-Pop News Writer
