LOONA Heejin, Kim Lip, Jinsol and Choerry Win Contract Lawsuit Vs Blockberry Creative

LOONA’s Heejin, Kim Lip, Jinsol, and Choerry have successfully won their exclusive contract lawsuit against Blockberry Creative.

Heejin, Kim Lip, Jinsol, and Choerry vs Blockberry Creative

On June 21, the 11th Civil Division of the Seoul Northern District Court ruled in favor of the four members in their civil lawsuit filed in March 2023. Initially, the lawsuit progressed without Blockberry Creative’s response, but the label eventually engaged, and court hearings began in December 2023.

Prior to this ruling, Heejin, Kim Lip, Jinsol, and Choerry had secured a temporary injunction that suspended the effects of their exclusive contracts. The injunction freed them from restrictions on their entertainment activities, allowing them to continue their careers without Blockberry Creative’s interference. Following this, the four members joined a new agency, Modu House, and debuted as part of the reformed group ARTMS, which also includes Haesol, bringing the group to five members.

LOONA originally debuted in 2018 as a 12-member group, but internal disputes, particularly involving member Chuu, led to significant changes. Chuu faced financial settlement issues with Blockberry Creative, prompting her to pursue legal action. She won her first and second trials to dissolve her exclusive contract, although Blockberry Creative has appealed, and the final decision is pending from the Supreme Court.

These legal battles have led to a practical disbandment of LOONA, with several members pursuing legal action to suspend their contracts. The successful lawsuit by Heejin, Kim Lip, Jinsol, and Choerry marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict between LOONA members and Blockberry Creative.

This victory not only liberates the members from their restrictive contracts but also sets a precedent for other K-Pop artists facing similar issues. It highlights the growing awareness and assertiveness among idols regarding fair treatment and contractual rights within the industry. Fans of LOONA and the newly formed Artemis can now look forward to more unencumbered activities from these talented artists.

LOONA and ARTMS’ Heejin Opens Up About Making Solo Debut

Former LOONA member Heejin has reflected on her idol career as she embarked on a new endeavor as a solo artist.

On October 31, Heejin released his first solo mini-album K, which carries the title track “Algorithm.”

Notably, this new solo music from the idol has been a long-awaited moment for her fans. Since Heejin’s last solo offering was around seven years ago, with the solo song ViViD” that was released in October 2016. At the time, she became the first member to be introduced in the “Monthly Girls” project that marked the start of K-pop girl group LOONA.

Moreover, K also served as Heejin’s first official release after moving to Modhaus in March 2023. In November 2022, she filed her injunction against former label BLOCKBERRY Creative. Together with fellow LOONA members Kim Lip, Jinsoul, and Cheorry, she won their injunctions in January 2023.

Under Modhaus, the ARTMS project was formed to feature the activities of the LOONA members under the agency.

Heejin on her solo debut

Given how significant K is in her career, it’s unsurprising that the singer has a lot to say about her idol journey and solo venture.

In a press conference with Korean media, Heejin opened up how she has blossomed as a solo artist with the album. “As I bloom once again and flourish, I wish to present myself to an even wider audience,” she said.

For her solo debut, she made sure to have deep involvement in the album’s production. For instance, she took part in writing lyrics for “Algorithm,” “Video Games,” “Nokia” and “Addiction.”

Aside from that, she also had a hands-on approach in terms of the album’s production. “I made suggestions for the album’s cover art, I asked the team to edit the font of the teaser image. And even suggested the clothes that I would wear in the album,” she shared.

With this, Heejin declared that she now feels like a “real artist.” “I believe I now have the power to truly stand on my own two feet,” she asserted. “I’ve learned to give my own opinion and even disagree with the agency if necessary.”

LOONA reunion?

Apart from her solo sting, she also dabbled on the recent legal battle that the LOONA members went through.

Despite what happened, she said that the dream of a full LOONA reunion with all 12 members is still very much alive. Especially that all members themselves share a positive outlook on the possibility of reuniting with their fans.

As of now though, Heejin said that it’s more feasible for fans to expect a release from the ARTMS project. “While we haven’t started any official preparation for our debut, I think we will be able to present ourselves [as ARTMS] with all five members next year,” she said.

LOONA and ARTMS member HaSeul has treated fans with new music through the release of her digital single “Plastic Candy.”

On Thursday, HaSeul released “Plastic Candy” on digital platforms before performing it at her concert Music Studio 81.8Hz.

Former LOONA Members Talk About Rebranding as LOOSSEMBLE

In a cutthroat industry like K-pop, it’s not every time that we get to see idols get several chances in making their dreams come true. And LOOSSEMBLE, a group formed of LOONA members, is aware of that. Which is why, they couldn’t help but be emotional as they look back at their fresh start.

On September 15, quintet made its official debut as they presented their new music with a self-titled album. A month after their debut, Hyunjin, Yeojin, Vivi, Go Won, and Hyeju, held a press event at Ilchi Art Hall in Seoul to open up about their new beginning.

Furthermore, she explained that this sparked a desire in them to “wholly embrace this re-debut.”

Meanwhile, Yeojin couldn’t help but share the group’s goals for the future. “We want to win a No. 1 trophy on a weekly music show, break existing records and more,” she said. Moreover, Vivi also concisely answered that she was half nervous and half excited to re-debut.

While the other members’ answers were more positive, Hyeju became candid with her response. “I was actually quite hesitant and worried about starting again,” she uttered with honesty. However, Hyeju revealed that it was the fans who cleared her doubts. “We are here together with the goal to meet our fans once again and to march forward together,” she added.

From LOONA to LOOSSEMBLE

The debut of LOOSSEMBLE comes months after their exhaustive legal battle with LOONA’s agency, Blockberry Creative.

Originally an 11-member group, LOONA has suspended their exclusive contracts with Blockberry Creatives citing unfair contract terms as their basis. After winning their lawsuit against the agency, Hyunjin, Yeojin, Vivi, Go Won, and Hyeju found a new home under CTDENM.

According to CTDENM,  the name LOOSSEMBLE stands for LOONA Assemble, referring to the quintet coming together as one.

Putting behind their struggles in the past, the girl group started afresh with a self-titled album consisting of eight songs including the title track “Sensitive.” Said album also has six other songs, and the English version of its title track.

As proof of their solid fanbase, their debut album was warmly received by K-pop fans. In the first week of its release, LOOSSEMBLE sold over 75,000 copies, marking a good start for the girl group.
