BoA and her groundbreaking achievements

This is BoA’s 24th year in the industry. She debuted at the tender age of 13 in 2000 and became a trailblazer in K-pop. Her groundbreaking achievements include being the first Korean artist to crack the Billboard 200, a chart that ranks the 200 most popular albums and EPs in the US.

BoA’s journey is marked by shrewd moves like SM’s localization strategy. This allowed her to crack Japan, the world’s second-largest music market. She became the first Korean act to top the Oricon charts with sales of over a million copies. BoA also made six consecutive appearances on NHK’s Kōhaku Uta Gassen, Japan’s top year-end music festival, earning her the title of “Asia’s Star.”

Her iconic status aside, BoA definitely has what it takes to be NCT Wish’s overall producer. BoA has always had a certain degree of creative control over her music. In 2012, she composed the title track of her seventh album Only One. When she released her eighth album Kiss My Lips three years later, fans were pleasantly surprised to find that she served as composer, lyricist, and producer for the 12-track collection.

Her success in Japan, Korea, and the US will prove invaluable in shaping NCT Wish. Additionally, her role in putting the group together will also be an asset. On the survival show NCT Universe: LASTART, she was a judge and training director alongside Super Junior’s Eunhyuk. Because of that, she knows the members and their skills quite well.

A dream come true for NCT Wish

Speaking of the members, Jaehee, Riku, Ryo, Sakuya, Sion, and Yushi bring a diverse array of talents to the group. Sion, born in 2002 in Korea, stands out with his excellent dancing and singing, complemented by his striking visuals. BoA herself deemed his singing “attractive” and “stable” on NCT Universe: LASTART. Meanwhile, she once declared Yushi her favorite trainee in the competition.

Finally, Ryo is a long-time fan of BoA’s, influenced by his mother and older sister. Ryo was overwhelmed when he met his idol during the show. He told her and the other judges that he felt like he was “going to pass out.” Debuting with BoA as his group’s overall producer is a dream come true for him.

This isn’t BoA’s first foray into producing for her juniors at SM Entertainment. In 2021, she played a pivotal role in the production of aespa’s cover of the S.E.S classic “Dreams Come True.” BoA helped them with their choreography, sound, and visuals.

A significant milestone for NCT WISH

This year’s SMTOWN LIVE 2024: SMCU Palace in Tokyo marks the 20th edition of the SMTOWN LIVE series. Look: NCT WISH Unveils Teasers for Official Debut in February

The infinite expansion concept of NCT is now coming to an end! And here’s the last unit to make it to the team: NCT WISH.

On Thursday, January 18, SM Entertainment officially announced that the latest addition to the NCT family will be called NCT WISH. Previously referred to as NCT New Team, the group was formed through the 2023 survival program NCT Universe: Lastart.

Ahead of their highly anticipated debut, NCT WISH unveiled a five-minute trailer. Aside from the clip, they also released the first set of teasers on social media.

In the series of youthful photos, Sion, Riku, Yushi, Jaehee, Ryo and Sakuya posed as a full group in charming schoolboy outfits.

In addition, the six members also introduced their unique visuals in their individual close-up shots in black-and-white filters.

To recall, the boy group first made headlines in October 2023, after releasing their pre-debut single “Hands Up.” Now, the last NCT unit is ready to formally take on the stage with the upcoming title track “Wish for our Wish.”

According to reports, the said track, which will have two versions — Korean and Japanese, is slated for release in February.

Moreover, NCT WISH, being a Japanese boy group, will be managed by both SM Entertainment and the Japanese label Avex Trex

NCT members welcome NCT WISH

Now that the last NCT group has been finalized, their hyungs or older members from other units made sure to warmly welcome NCT WISH.

In the group’s official Instagram account, Taeyong, Johnny, Yuta, Doyoung, Jungwoo were seen showing their support for the new members.

Jungwoo, from the units NCT 127 and NCT DoJaeJung, sent his well wishes for the young group. Furthermore, the vocalist shared that he wishes that the rookies’ future activities will shine in the future and reassured the six members that he is rooting for them.

Meanwhile, NCT’s general leader, Taeyong made the atmosphere lighter with his jokes and even initiated a group hug with the rookie group.

Even the other members were also seen giving brotherly advice to the youngsters as well.

To note, NCT WISH will be NCT’s sixth and last unit. Since being introduced in January 2016, the group has formed five prior groups: NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, WayV, and NCT DoJaeJung

Initially, the group was supposed to have seven members. However, in October 2023, SM Entertainment announced that Jungmin will no longer debut with the group due to health concerns.
