Seventeen’s Joshua Gets Emotional in Japan Concert Following Dating Controversy

Joshua of K-pop boy group SEVENTEEN couldn’t help but burst into tears at the continuous support of their fans following his recent dating controversy.

On September 6 to 7, the “Super” hitmakers held their FOLLOW concert at the Tokyo Dome. While the performances were impeccable, the members’ ending messages particularly moved the fans.

Joshua, specifically, couldn’t help but get emotional as he talked about the strong bond between SEVENTEEN and CARATs.

“You have become the motivation for me to work with all my might and more in my activities,” he said. “CARATs will always be the force that drives me. So that I can convey my feelings to CARATs, I will work even harder going forward.”

During the second day of the show, Joshua once again expressed his gratitude to their supporters. “Just being able to see all of you, whether you’re cheering for me or helping me become a better person has been incredible.”

Joshua’s dating controversies

While this might be a usual gratitude message for others, CARATs know that Joshua’s message hold more weight as it’s the idol’s first concert following his dating controversy.

In early August, speculations that Joshua is dating model/influencer Mi Young circulated online. Such rumors came due to footage of the two allegedly wearing the same products and taking photos in similar locations within the same time.

Although other fans have debunked the allegations, there were unfortunately some antis who boycotted and protested against the idol.

Aside from the model/influencer, Joshua was also linked to former MOMOLAND member Jane. To which Jane was quick to deny. Moreover, Jane emphasized that she never even personally met the SEVENTEEN member.

Even without directly addressing the rumors, the controversy obviously took a toll on Joshua as he maintained a low profile on social media. He also appeared visibly exhausted in public.

Be Loud For Joshua

Following Joshua’s poignant moment at the concert, many fans were quick to show their support for the idol. Hashtags “Be Loud for Joshua” and “We Love You Joshua” trended on social media.

Some couldn’t help but applaud the strength it took for Joshua to be emotionally vulnerable to his fans after a distressing moment.

Many also aired out their frustration to those who started the rumors, telling them that they’re not deserving to be called fans of SEVENTEEN.

Overall, the majority declared their continued support for Joshua, promising that they’ll be by his side through thick and thin.

In spite of the controversies, Joshua continued his activities with SEVENTEEN. Recently, he, together with members DK and DINO, were featured in the remix of New Kids On The Block’s “Dirty Dancing.”

Boy band fans unite!  K-pop boy group SEVENTEEN and American boy band New Kids on The Block (NKOTB) joined forces for a remix version of the track “Dirty Dancing.”

Initially released in 2008, Dirty Dancingwas part of NKOTB’s album The Block. To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the album, the band will be releasing a special edition album titled The Block Revisited. According to Billboard, the revisited LP will feature bonus materials from its initially star-studded tracklist.

On Friday, September 1, NKOTB released a reimagining of the 2008 single, which featured a remix by Dem Jointz and SEVENTEEN members Joshua, DK, and Dino.

All three of the SEVENTEEN members also had their lyrics in English, with member Dino even showcasing his rapping skills.

The collaboration between SEVENTEEN and New Kids on the Block was first teased in late August. The American boy band shared a tweet saying “17,” to which the K-pop boy group replied with an emoji of raising their hands.

SEVENTEEN members’ reaction on ‘Dirty Dancing’ remix

Since the collaboration was confirmed, both fans of the group have expressed their excitement for the release.

Aside from the fans, the SEVENTEEN members involved in the collaboration were also looking forward to working with NKOTB.

In a video, Joshua, Dino, and DK opened up about how it’s like working with an American band.

Joshua, who grew up in America, revealed that her mother used to love NKOTB and that Dirty Dancing” was one of his favorite songs.

“It’s fascinating to make music with them,” he said. “It’s amazing that we got to do a remix with them. I really love this song.”

For his part, DK shared that it’s an “honor” for them to be featured in the remix. “I hope it turns out to be a great collaboration,” he said.

Additionally, he also left a message to their fans: “I hope you love and enjoy ‘Dirty Dancing.’”

Meanwhile, Dino opened up about how he prepared for his part in the remix. “I think a lot about the vibe when recording. And if it’s in a different language, I’ll try to make sure I sound as natural as possible.”

Like DK, the youngest member also hoped that their fans would enjoy the remix. “All of us really worked hard on this track. And this was an honor for us as well.”

SEVENTEEN’s upcoming activities

The collaboration with NKOTB came after SEVENTEEN released their first compilation album Always Yours.

Currently, SEVENTEEN will have their Japan dome tour for their FOLLOW concert.

Additionally, the group is set to return with their 11th mini-album in October. Final details about that specific comeback have yet to be announced as of writing.

Look: Seventeen Releases First Season of Artist-Made Collection

SEVENTEEN surprised fans by announcing that they’ll be releasing their first batch of artist-made collection!

Similar to BTS’ artist-made collection, this SEVENTEEN version will see each 13 members create their own set of merchandise.

From conceptualizing and planning the product to reviewing the samples, each merchandise in their collection was made with personal contribution of the SEVENTEEN members.

However, the release schedule for the artist-made collection of the members differ. The SEVENTEEN members were divided into three groups, whose collections will be released from 2023 to late 2024.

According to the scheduler released by HYBE MERCH, the division of the members and the release date are as follows:

  • Season 1 (September 2023): S.coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun
  • Season 2 (Early 2024): Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The8
  • Season 3 (Late 2024): Mingyu, Vernon, DK, Dino, Seungkwan

The first season of SEVENTEEN’s artist-made collection will be available via offline and online stores.

Offline stores will run from September 1 to September 10. Meanwhile, the online selling will start on September 13. Additionally, the shipping schedules also vary for each regional retailer.

On the other hand, there’s still no other details about the second and third season of the artist-made collection for the rest of the SEVENTEEN members.

Moreover, HYBE MERCH also released a making log of how each product came to be.

S.coups’ collection

With the theme “bright after rain,” SEVENTEEN’s leader made a customized umbrella and glass set for CARATs.

“When it rains, I don’t usually feel very happy,” he said. “So I want you all to use the umbrella I made on a rainy day and feel a little bit better.”

The umbrella has bright doodles inside, while the glass set even has stickers and features that changes depending on the temperature. Seungcheol even joked that he’ll use the glass set often.

Jeonghan’s collection

As for Jeonghan, he mixed a bunny and a squirrel to make a character that represents him.

I want him to be bright and energetic but gets exhausted easily,” he said of Toram. Aside from his representative animals, Jeonghan also used wings as the ears for his character.

For his products, he had a stuffed animal of Toram that carries a blanket and a mood light.

After seeing the final products, Jeonghan said that he was so happy with the results. “i’ve always wanted to create my own character. And through this great opportunity, we got to create this after a long discussion,” he said.

Joshua’s collection

One of Joshua’s recent habits is making scents, as mentioned in SEVENTEEN’s In The Soop. So it was not surprising that he made a DIY perfume-making kit.

He said that it was a kit that includes different scents that he personally likes. “CARATs can mix the scents however they want,” he explained.

Among some of the scents included in his kit are vanilla, rose, woody notes, and citrus. What makes it even cuter is the scents had names associated to Joshua, such as “Sunday morning” and “deer.”

Juns collection

Most, if not all, CARATs knew that cats are Jun’s representative animal. And seems like the idol’s more than okay with it as he makes a cat-themed collection.

One of his two products are the phone cases. Jun said that since he changes phone cases often, he’d want to use the same style as CARATs.

Next are stuffed animals, cats, specifically. He explained it’s because he has been playing claw machines often lately.

CARATs, they’re all cute, right? Which one of them are you planning to get?
