Look: These 2nd Generation Idols Reunite

Fans of 2nd generation K-pop groups were left in awe when several veteran idols got together in a recent event.

On Tuesday, September 12, Hyosung, a former member of girl group SECRET, shared a photo of her posing with other idols from 2nd generation.

In the photo, T-ARA’s Eunjung, ex-SISTAR member Bora, former Jewelry member Yewon, and Im Siwan of ZE:A were posing together.

“Thanks to Siwan oppa, it turned into Idol Stars Athletic Competition, memories,” Hyosung captioned her post. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been in the Inkigayo waiting room.”

The impromptu reunion reportedly took place at a movie premiere.

Fans’ reaction to these 2nd Generation legends

The photos quickly gathered praise online as it’s the latest addition to the rare instances of seeing veteran idols together.

In February, Bora and Hyosung were also present in Siwan’s fan concert, alongside MBLAQ’s Lee Joon. In addition to them, SNSD’s Sooyoung also showed support for Siwan.

Following this get-together, fans couldn’t help but reminisce about the era of 2nd generation idols.

In an online community, fans discussed how the 2nd generation of K-pop was considered the “golden era.”

According to the exchange by netizens, many fans consider that time as the starting point for Hallyu’s global takeover. Others also pointed out how new K-pop fans won’t ever understand how famous these idols were during their peak. As well as the influence they had in shaping the genre, calling all of the artists in the photo as legends.

Furthermore, fans also praised the visuals of Hyosung, Eunjung, Bora, Yewon, and Siwan. Some were talking about how they didn’t age.

Many also felt nostalgic seeing the artists, with some saying that it reminded them of old variety shows. There were also comments from some fans wishing for a comeback and more reunions.

Moreover, a huge chunk of the comments from the online community highlighted the bond between these stars. For them, it’s a testament to the difference in generations among K-pop idols as groups before had more freedom forming friendships among each other.

Several fans were claiming that idols then were more “free” when it comes to hanging out with other idols, as well as in expressing their thoughts.

Red Velvet’s Seulgi Insists Group’s Bond Is Stronger Than Ever

In the world of K-pop, where rumors are as common as chart-topping hits, Seulgi of the group Red Velvet has taken a stand. On September 12, Kang Seul-gi, widely known by her stage name “Seulgi,” addressed the whispers of discord among the five-member girl group.

Seulgi speaks

The rumor mills had been buzzing, with netizens suggesting the Red Velvet members don’t genuinely have a close relationship. Fuel was added to the fire when a few members were notably absent from the audience of Rebecca, the first musical Red Velvet‘s Wendy starred in. Seulgi, however, quickly quashed such allegations by taking to Bubble, a popular fan messaging app in South Korea.

Highlighting the group’s unity, Seulgi mentioned how Irene, their leader, is always at the forefront when it comes to supporting any member. She emphasized Irene‘s presence at several of Wendy’s shows, showing her support for Wendy‘s new solo venture as the lead in Rebecca. Seulgi humorously added, “Irene is the first when it comes to birthday wishes. We all wish each other happy birthday, but because we don’t make it obvious, there are people who cast doubt on our relationship.”

While Wendy‘s musical debut was a significant milestone in her solo career, netizens seemed more focused on the perceived rift between Red Velvet members. Seulgi, who had launched her debut EP titled 28 Reasons in October 2022, shed light on a possible reason for the misunderstanding. She jovially mentioned, “It’s because we’re a group of introverts.”

They’ve had each other’s backs

Further cementing their unity, Red Velvet members Joy and Yeri expressed support for Wendy‘s musical debut through heartfelt Instagram posts. These posts showed the duo attending one of her shows, cheering for their bandmate.

The members’ support for one another isn’t a new phenomenon. From sending food trucks to each other’s filming locations, showcasing their camaraderie on social media, to surprising each other on set, the five members have consistently had each other’s backs.

That said, it’s worth noting that Irene reportedly didn’t renew her SM Entertainment deal. What that means for the group’s future remains to be seen. – K-Pop News Writer

Is Son Ye Jin Hinting at a New Project?

Fans are sent into a frenzy as South Korean actress Son Ye Jin hints that she’s making her highly-anticipated acting comeback.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, September 9, the actress shared a photo of her in a golf course. While this isn’t the first time for Son to post about golfing, it’s her caption that prompted fans to think that it’s related to an acting project.

“Finally!! We finished the shoot safely,” she wrote in Korean. “I’m nervous to meet you after a long time. But I’m filming something where I have to play golf in front of the camera.”

In the photo, she’s seen wearing a white sweatshirt, printed mini skirt, and a white sun visor. According to her caption, she said that the filming staff had to continuously take pictures of her like that.

Moreover, what really cemented fans’ speculations that it’s for a project was Son talking about airing dates. “The broadcast date is not set yet, but I will let you know when it is,” she said.

https://twitter.com/sonyejinpics/status/1700346345838788669

However, aside from these details, no other information about Son’s project has been disclosed.

Fans’ excitement for the return of Son Ye Jin

Although there’s no confirmation yet as to what the project is about, fans of the actress have already expressed their excitement for it.

If proven to be true, the said project will serve as Son’s return to acting in more than a year. Her last project was the slice-of-life drama Thirty-Nine, which aired in February 2022.

Since then, the actress has primarily stayed away from the spotlight. In March 2022, she tied the knot with actor Hyun Bin, just a month after announcing their engagement. In November 2022, the celebrity couple welcomed their first child.

Ye Jin and Hyun Bin first worked together in the thriller film The Negotiation, before reuniting in the award-winning 2019 drama Crash Landing On You. They confirmed their relationship on January 1, 2021.

Key Confirms SHINee Recently Renewed Contracts With SM Entertainment

Good news, SHAWOLs! K-pop boy group SHINee marked their 15th year in the idol industry by deciding to continue their artist journey with SM Entertainment.

The news was confirmed by member Key in his guesting at Ddeun Ddeun, the web series of Yoo Jae Suk and Ji Seok Jin.

In the episode, Jae Suk expressed his shock at how SHINee is entering their 16th year as idols. It was followed by Seok Jin asking if the group had already renewed their contract for the third time.

To which Key said that their contract renewal with SM Entertainment happened recently. Additionally, he also said: “Even if we leave, we’ll leave together. Together, always.”

SHAWOLs’ reaction

After the episode aired, SHAWOLs quickly took to social media to express their happiness on the news.

Many are applauding the group’s longevity, given that it’s rare for the idol industry to hit the 15-year mark. Much more for a group to retain all of its members since they debut. Additionally, it’s also rare for all of the members of a group to stay under the same label. However, all of these feats were achieved by SHINee.

Aside from these milestones, though, what really warmed the hearts of the fans was Key emphasizing that they’ll always be together.

For their fans, it’s another testament to the tight-knit bond among the members. Many also took it as a reassurance that SHINee members will stick to each other on any part of their career.

Moreover, fans also looked back on the group’s idol journey and reaffirmed their support for SHINee.

However, there were also some fans who hoped that the recent contract would mean that SM Entertainment will treat SHINee better. It can be recalled that early this year, SHAWOLs complained about the agency’s lack of care for the group.

The long-lasting career of SHINee

SHINee debuted as a five-member group in May 2008 with the EP Replay. In December 2017, member Jonghyun passed away.

As of 2023, all of the remaining four members: Onew, Key, Minho, and Taemin, have finished their mandatory military services and made their respective solo debuts.

In celebration of their 15th anniversary, the group is also releasing the documentary film My SHINee World. Said film will reportedly chronicle the group’s growth from their debut days. It will also feature live performances from the group’s sixth solo concert SHINee World VI PERFECT ILLUMINATION. A final release date for the documentary has yet to be announced.

In June, the group released their eight full album HARD.
