Twice’s Nayeon Wins Lawsuit Against Mother’s Ex-lover; Jyp to Pursue Defamation Case

Nayeon of K-pop girl group TWICE has won a monetary lawsuit against her mother’s past lover. In response to the controversy, JYP Entertainment vows to  take action against the defamation that their artist has received.

News about the court ruling in favor of Nayeon has been confirmed by her agency on Tuesday, September 19.

According to reports by Korean media, the TWICE singer has been embroiled in a lawsuit against her mother’s ex-boyfriend since January 2022. Moreover, her mother’s ex claimed that Nayeon failed to pay the loan that he allegedly let them borrow before she made her debut as a K-pop idol.

TWICE’s Nayeon vs Mr. A

Referred to as Mr. A, the ex-boyfriend of Nayeon’s mother, claimed a loan repayment of 600 million won. Based on the reports, the said amount was allegedly Mr. A’s expenses for their basic necessities. Such amount reportedly includes their monthly rent, loans, and even Nayeon’s tuition fees in a span of over 12 years— from 2004 to 2016.

During the trial, Mr. A narrated that the loan was done through the request of Nayeon‘s mother. “I lent necessary funds such as living expenses. They promised to pay back the money when Nayeon, who was a trainee, debuted as a singer. But Nayeon broke her promise.”

However, the claimant lost in the legal proceedings due to insufficient evidence. The court refused to acknowledge that the amount Nayeon and her mother received was “borrowed.”

Moreover, court readings stated that there is no evidence to recognize it as a loan. Thus, Nayeon and her mother are not obligated to repay it. “Given the number, period, amount, and circumstances of the money transactions, it is difficult to say that A and Nayeon agreed to return it,” the court continued

As per reports, Mr. A has not appealed after losing the first trial.

JYP Entertainment, fans react

As for the court’s ruling, JYP Entertainment assured fans that the decision has been “finalized and concluded.” “So we have nothing to say since it has no bearing on the artist’s entertainment pursuits,” the agency told Korean media.

With the legal battle now over, JYP Entertainment assured the fans that they will take legal action for acts of defamation against their artists.

“We will take firm legal action against the matter of defaming the artist’s reputation or insulting the artist through speculative writing going forward.” they said.

Following the news, netizens shared their different opinions on the controversy. Many are in agreement with the court’s ruling, saying that Mr. A just wanted to get money from Nayeon and her mother. While others think it’s a hater’s attempt to ruin Nayeon’s career.

The 27-year-old singer debuted in October 2015 as a member of TWICE. In July 2022, she released her solo album IM NAYEON with the hit title track “Pop!”

Billie Confirmed for Five-Member Comeback in October

Girl group Billie is gearing up for a grand return this October. On September 19, Xportsnews broke the news that fans have eagerly been waiting for: Billie is set to drop new music next month. This revelation was soon confirmed by Billie’s agency, Mystic Story.

This comeback is particularly significant as it marks the girl group’s return to K-pop after seven months. Their fourth mini-album, titled The Billage of Perception: Chapter Three, dropped in March 2023. It incorporated various genres, including funk-pop, pop-R&B, and synth-pop. It was a monumental success, as its title track, “EUNOIA,” gave them their first music show win.

Billie hasn’t had it easy

Unfortunately, the group hasn’t had it easy lately. On April 20, they stopped promoting their fourth mini-album following the sudden passing of Moon Sua’s sibling, Moonbin, from ASTRO. A few days later, Mystic Story informed fans that Moon Sua would be taking a break, while the other six members would proceed with their scheduled activities. She resumed her MC position on Show Champion on June 12.

That same month, another member—lead dancer and main vocalist Suhyeon—went on hiatus. Mystic Story quickly released a statement regarding Suhyeon’s condition. The agency wrote, “Following an expert’s opinion that she needs rest, we’ve decided to temporarily suspend her activities for the recovery of her health. We will do our best for Suhyeon’s treatment and quick recovery, and do everything we can for the health and safety of our artists in the future too. We apologize for causing concern to fans with this sudden news and ask for your support for Suhyeon’s quick recovery.”

Poor Moon Sua

A few days ago, Moon Sua decided to take another break. This is especially poignant given what her family went through earlier this year. Highlighting her need for adequate rest, Billie’s agency confirmed that the girl group’s upcoming comeback would feature only five members: Haram, Haruna, Sheon, Siyoon, and Tsuki.

As exciting as Billie‘s upcoming comeback is, it’s crucial to acknowledge its members’ struggles. While waiting for them to release new material, fans worldwide are filled with anticipation and hope, rooting for a triumphant comeback and the well-being of every member. – K-Pop News Writer

End of an Era: Blackpink Emotionally Wraps up ‘Born Pink’ World Tour

How are we feeling, BLINKs? K-pop girl group BLACKPINK officially wrapped up their 11-month long Born Pink  world tour in a two-day concert in Seoul’s Gockeok Sky Dome on September 16 to 17.

The sensational girl group electrified the stage with hits “Pink Venom,” “Pretty Savage”, “How You Like That,” and many more.

As they finally put an end to the Born Pink era, Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa couldn’t help but be emotional as they reminisced about their entire tour journey.

“One year ago, around this time, we started in Seoul, and one year later now, we got to wrap up the concert. So I’m happy to wrap up with good memories until the end,” Jisoo shared.

Meanwhile, Rose looked back on their first concert. “Our first-ever Seoul concert feels like it was just yesterday,” she said. “It feels like we’ve become one with BLINK, and although this is our last, it feels like we will be together forever.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2yr0QVpQhs

Then,  Lisa took the time to thank BLINKs, the group’s fandom, for their support. “To our BLINKs, it’s been over 2,596 days since we met. Thank you BLINKs for this amazing experience, and I really love you all. And thank you BLINKs for making my 20s shine.” she said.

Lastly, Jennie expressed her sentiments on the tour finale. “BLINKs, thank you for loving and cheering us on as always. We will work hard and continue to be BLACKPINK who always impresses,” she said.

In the middle of a few performances, netizens noticed how Jennie seemed to have held back tears.

BLACKPINK’s achievements with Born Pink

With the final concert in Seoul, the Born Pink world tour now records a staggering total of 66 shows. In a span of 11 months, the four members traveled across North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania to meet BLINKs.

In April, Touring Data reported that the Born Pink world tour became the highest-grossing tour by a female group in history. BLACKPINK accomplished an impressive milestone of having sold 366,000 tickets for the first 26 shows alone. With this, the K-Pop idols surpassed legendary acts such as Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child, and TLC.

For the tour’s fourth show, Touring Data revealed that Born Pink has achieved another record as it becomes the first tour by a female act in Asia to surpass 200 million USD in ticket sales.

Showing off their global influence, BLACKPINK also writes their name down in history as the first artist to headline and sell out several stadiums across the world including Mexico, France, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore.

Born Pink: As if it’s BLACKPINK’s last concert

Amidst these momentous milestones, fans are extra sentimental with the Born Pink finale as the members’ contract with their agency, YG Entertainment, also comes to an end.

Debuted in 2016, BLACKPINK marked their seventh debut anniversary in August 2023.  Which means their seven-year contract has also expired.

Numerous South Korean media outlets have reported that Lisa rejected two offers for renewal. However, YG Entertainment addressed the rumors stating: “We are still discussing contract renewals with Lisa. The rumors that are going around are nothing that is confirmed.”

As of writing, none of the BLACKPINK members have finalized their contract renewal yet— making fans keen and anxious of the group’s future activities.

Why Did GOT7’s BamBam Grant This Particular Fansite Special Privileges?

Concerts are known for their super strict rules, especially regarding cameras. In many events, fans are often prohibited from bringing cameras, leading to a cat-and-mouse game between fansites and security. While some concerts turn a blind eye to fans capturing moments with their phones, others are more stringent, ensuring no footage is taken.

In South Korea, this game is even more intense. Fansites, eager to capture their idols in the best light, often find their professional-level equipment confiscated. This has led to some fansites using ingenious methods to smuggle their things into concert venues. Some resort to strapping cameras to their legs, camouflaging them with long skirts, while others disassemble their equipment, and stuff parts in their bags. However, once inside, if discovered, they risk being ejected from the venue.

What did BamBam do?

This backdrop sets the stage for a recent incident involving GOT7‘s BamBam. The artist held a solo concert in Seoul, and as expected, many fansites were sneaking in their cameras to immortalize the event. One fansite, known simply as Bammad, captured a breathtaking photo of BamBam bathed in a single spotlight. The composition and quality of the photo were so impressive that the artist himself took notice.

In an unexpected move, BamBam publicly exempted Bammad from the standard “no cameras” rule. He took to social media to express his admiration for the photo she took, stating, “Please absolutely never take away this noona’s camera during concerts.” This personal endorsement from BamBam was a significant gesture, but it also highlighted the challenges fansites face. Despite securing her idol’s approval, Bammad still has to navigate the potential pitfalls posed by concert promoters.

The fansite master’s reaction

In a candid response, Bammad tweeted, “Please tell your company this…I’m scared to go overseas…”

This exchange underscores the delicate balance between artists, fansites, and event organizers. As BamBam embarks on the rest of his world tour, fans are waiting to see if he advocates for Bammad, ensuring she continues delivering high-quality photos without hindrance. – K-Pop News Writer

Rowoon Talks to AnOther Magazine About Fans, Loneliness, and More

In a recent interview with AnOther Magazine, former SF9 member Rowoon shared insights into his career. Their conversation began with the interviewer highlighting the growing popularity of Hangul, the Korean language. Rowoon expressed pride in this trend, saying, “This is something I’m proud of. I think the Korean alphabet, Hangul, is beautiful, and I’m grateful that other people perceive it that way too.”

Later in their conversation, Rowoon pondered the motivations behind the intense love fans have for top South Korean actors and idols. He candidly admitted to having a potentially controversial opinion on the matter. When the interviewer pressed him on it, he suggested that the root of such fervent devotion might be tied to feelings of loneliness.

“This may be a little dangerous to say, but I think it’s about loneliness. That’s how I feel, honestly. I think it’s a contradiction because, at the end of the day, it’s a form of consumption. Once you try to find a reason for it, it turns into loneliness,” he remarked.

Rowoon on the darker side of fandom

Talk then turned to the darker side of fandom: sasaengs or stalker fans. AnOther Magazine noted that, like many celebrities, Rowoon has experienced both the highs and the lows of fame. In other words, he has dealt with his fair share of sasaengs. From obsessive love to harsh criticism, this guy has seen it all. Reflecting on the negative attention, Rowoon revealed, “It used to be hurtful, so now I just treat it as more attention. It keeps me on edge, alert, and hard-working.”

Despite the challenges, Rowoon emphasized the deep connection he feels with his fans. He believes that they find solace in his work, and he, in turn, draws inspiration from their support. “I always ask myself, ‘Would there be meaning to what I do if these people didn’t exist?’” Rowoon wondered. “For them, I feel like I need to live my life to the fullest. I used to feel pressure from fame, but now I just try to enjoy it.”

Rowoon‘s journey from a rising K-pop star to a seasoned artist has been filled with ups and downs. Through it all, he remains very grateful for the experiences and the unwavering support of his fans. – K-Pop News Writer

Netizens Clarify Rumors Surrounding SUGA’s Upcoming Enlistment

BTSSUGA is set to embark on a unique journey for his mandatory military service in South Korea, taking on a role as a social worker. This decision has sparked conversations among fans and netizens alike, shedding light on the challenges faced by the artist over the years.

In December 2022, rumors were rife that instead of being an active-duty soldier, the BTS member might be allowed to serve as a social worker in a government office. This wasn’t a complete surprise to ARMY, given the rapper’s medical history. Fans know SUGA used to feel continued pain from an old shoulder injury. He even referenced this pain in his 2016 song “마지막 (The Last),” a track off his first mixtape.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmHtTLb8-wU

SUGA‘s shoulder issues date back to 2012, before his debut with BTS. Diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder in 2013, he received a more severe diagnosis in 2019: torn cartilage near his left shoulder joint. Poor SUGA suffered many symptoms, including the inability to raise his arms high and sudden bouts of pain.

Despite treatment, his symptoms persisted, affecting his performances and daily life. Eventually, he decided that surgery was the best option, both for his upcoming mandatory military service and his post-service musical career.

SUGA, the social worker

However, military authorities have clarified that even if someone is designated as a social worker, they can choose to become an active-duty soldier if they want to. At first, BigHit Music refused to confirm their artist’s plans. But it has since come to light that he’ll enlist as a social worker. Stars like actor Yoo Seung-ho and Super Junior member Heechul elected to go this route due to various reasons, from injuries to mental health challenges.

SUGA will begin social service work on September 22. This role is similar to a regular job, allowing him to work in various settings, from social welfare facilities to state institutions. Unlike his fellow BTS members j-hope and Jin, who enlisted as active-duty soldiers, SUGA can go home after every shift.

Korean netizens say this arrangement allows him to write and record new music while completing his military service, but he’s not allowed to release anything until after he’s discharged. SUGA also has to complete a three-week military training period, after which he’ll go back to being a social worker. However, no specific date for this training period has been set.

While his enlistment might be different from the traditional path, his dedication to his country and his music remains unwavering. ARMY worldwide send their love and support, eagerly awaiting SUGA’s return to the stage in 2025. – K-Pop News Writer

IU Celebrates Her 15th Debut Anniversary by Donating to Several Charities

K-pop icon IU marked her 15th debut anniversary with a grand gesture of goodwill. On September 18, her agency, EDAM Entertainment, revealed that IU donated a grand total of 300 million KRW to several institutions. These include the Korea Child Welfare Association, the ASAN Medical Center, and the Seoul Children’s Hospital. Notably, these donations were made under the name ‘IUAENA,’ a heartwarming blend of IU‘s name and her official fan club, UAENA.

The funds given to the ASAN Medical Center will be used to support adolescent and female cancer patients who, due to financial constraints, are often sidelined when it comes to getting treatment. Meanwhile, the Korea Child Welfare Association plans to use IU‘s donation to improve child welfare facilities nationwide. Some of these facilities recently sustained damage due to typhoons. Finally, the Seoul Children’s Hospital outlined its intention to use the money to help underprivileged groups with their medical expenses.

IU has always been deeply involved in philanthropy. Earlier this year, she extended her support to the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation on Children’s Day in May. She led fundraising efforts for coal briquettes to assist economically disadvantaged households in Yangpyeong. Aside from donating money, IU also lent her time and talent to disabled students from Milal School.

IU remains active and engaged with fans

In tandem with her fan club, ‘UAENA,’ IU has consistently strived to make a difference. Together, they aim to set positive precedents and cultivate an atmosphere of collective positivity and warmth. Expressing her gratitude, IU stated, “Thanks to ‘UAENA,’ who always send me unwavering support, I’m delighted to share warmth in society. We’ve built memories and valuable experiences together. As ‘IUAENA,’ I believe in sharing all the love I’ve received and making small but positive changes in people’s lives. Thanks to ‘UAENA,’ I’m constantly learning gratitude. I love you. See you soon.”

Since her debut with the track “Lost Child” in 2008, IU has enjoyed consistent success, becoming a top artist in Korea. She has released five studio albums and nine EPs, and she’s putting the finishing touches on her first new album in two years. But she’s not just a singer. She has also earned awards for her acting.
