BABYMONSTER Set to Debut on November 27

Mark your calendars, K-pop fans! After several days, YG Entertainment has officially announced the debut date for their much-anticipated girl group, BABYMONSTER.

On Friday, November 10, YG Entertainment released a teaser to confirm that the seven-member girl group will debut on November 27. As of writing, other details about BABYMONSTER’s upcoming debut have yet to be disclosed.

Initially, YG Entertainment announced in July that the group was supposed to make a September debut. At the time, the agency shared that the members were already working on the song’s choreography and preparing for the filming of the music video.

However, the label didn’t release any update about it, prompting fans to be worried about the delays.

Then, YG Entertainment shared that they decided to push back the launch by two months for “quality enhancement.” Moreover, the group’s debut song will reportedly fall under the strong hip–hop genre, which is why they’re reportedly putting more effort into the song.

Will BABYMONSTER mark a new era for YG Entertainment?

BABYMONSTER‘s debut marks a significant moment for YG Entertainment. Especially since the label witnessed the departure of several artists between 2022 and 2023.

Among these artists are BIGBANG members Daesung, Taeyang, G-Dragon, group iKON, and Kang Do-won. Currently, the agency’s roster includes AKMU, Sechskies, WINNER, BLACKPINK, and TREASURE. Moreover, the label remains to be in negotiation with the contract renewal of BLACKPINK members.

With the recent changes, fans and K-pop enthusiasts alike are tuning in as to how the debut of BABYMONSTER will affect the agency.

Ahead of the group’s official debut, BABYMONSTER has already built a substantial social media following, boasting 3.4 million Instagram followers and 3.1 million YouTube subscribers.

In March, YG Entertainment launched the reality show Last Evaluation to document the formation of the new girl group. Initially intended to consist of only  five members, the overwhelming demand from viewers led the agency to include all seven members in the final lineup.

The group is composed of Ahyeon, Haram, and Rora from Korea, Pharita and Chiquita from Thailand, and Ruka and Asa from Japan.

In May, they released their pre-debut song, “DREAM,” generating excitement among fans. Notably, BABYMONSTER will serve as YG Entertainment’s first girl group since BLACKPINK made their debut in 2016.

The music world is buzzing with excitement over a hint from Ryan Tedder about a new song with BTS‘s Jimin. On November 7, he responded to a fan’s comment asking him to write a song with the idol. Tedder revealed that not only had he already written a song, but they had also completed the recording.

Fans of the “Like Crazy” singer-songwriter were thrilled by this news. They quickly started adding PJM2ISCOMING to all their posts on X (formerly known as Twitter). Ryan Tedder, an American singer-songwriter and the lead vocalist of the pop-rock group OneRepublic, has written hits for many industry heavyweights, including Adele, Beyoncé, Ellie Goulding, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, One Direction, P!nk, and Taylor Swift. More details about Jimin‘s endeavors emerged during a live show on Weverse called Special Talk with Jimin. Jimin hinted at possibly holding a solo concert in the future and mentioned that he is currently focusing on taking classes and working out. He added that while he knows ARMYs are curious about what his next move will be, he’d rather leave it to their imaginations.

Fans react to the Ryan Tedder news

Jimin is expected to begin his military service by the end of 2023, according to HYBE. Fans are hopeful that he’ll release another album before his enlistment.

This incident with Ryan Tedder brings to mind something similar that happened on November 10, 2022, several months before the release of Jimin’s debut solo album, FACE. Grammy-winning music producer Austin Owens posted a picture with Jimin, sparking collaboration rumors. However, when FACE was released, Owens wasn’t credited on any of its tracks. The album featured collaborations with RM, the leader of BTS, and producers BLVSH, Chris James, EVAN, GHSTLOOP, Pdogg, and Supreme Boi. As a result, some are taking the Ryan Tedder news with a grain of salt.

Bae Suzy’s Thoughtful and Expensive Gifts to ‘Doona!’ Staff Revealed

Bae Suzy might be a huge star but she’s more than just a pretty face. Suzy’s “Doona!” co-star Yang Se Jong revealed that the former Miss A member also has a generous heart. Yang just revealed that Suzy provided thoughtful and expensive gifts for the staff of the Netflix series when they filmed during a difficult period!

Suzy Gave ‘Doona!’ Staff Expensive Gifts During Filming

Bae Suzy and Yang Se Jong recently made a guest appearance in an episode of “Salon Drip” where they discussed working on their hit show. At one point, the host asked Jang Do Yeon about Suzy’s generosity when they were filming for “Doona!” Not surprisingly, Yang had a delightful story to share.

He revealed that despite the show’s summer setting, the production faced the harshness of winter during filming. The dedicated staff endured challenging conditions, working tirelessly outdoors in the cold.

Suzy, who is known for her caring nature, decided to warm the hearts of the staff. She gifted each team member expensive gifts to combat the cold. Yang Se Jong revealed that Suzy “gave super expensive scarves to every one of the staff members.” Suzy went the extra mile, not only purchasing a collection of Acne Studio scarves, some priced as high as $420 USD each but also personally wrapping them.

Surprisingly, the substantial cost of these Christmas gifts didn’t faze Suzy in the least. What truly touched her was the staff’s happiness upon receiving the thoughtful tokens of appreciation. Suzy’s gesture warmed not only their bodies but their spirits as well.

“Doona!” is a romantic drama series based on a beloved webtoon. The story centers around the experiences of Lee Doona, a former idol as she encounters Lee Wonjun, a regular college student, in a shared living arrangement. The new series premiered on Netflix on October 20, 2023

CUBE Entertainment has officially revealed its financial performance for the third quarter of 2023. Interestingly, despite recent losses with its current artists, the company confirmed that their flagship artist (G)I-DLE effectively propelled the agency through the third quarter of 2023.

CUBE Confirms (G)I-DLE Boosting Company’s Financial Performance

On November 9, CUBE shared an official statement regarding its financial performance from July to September 2023. In the third quarter, the company reported robust financial performance, with separate basis sales revenue at 22 billion KRW (approximately 16.8 million USD) and an operating profit of 3 billion KRW (approximately 2.3 million USD). These figures represent substantial growth, with a 90% increase in sales revenue and a profitable operating margin compared to the previous year.

By the end of the third quarter, cumulative separate basis sales revenue had reached 65 billion KRW (approximately 49.5 million USD), surpassing the prior year’s annual revenue in just nine months. The company achieved a cumulative operating profit of 10.1 billion KRW (approximately 7.7 million USD), marking the first time it has exceeded the 10 billion KRW milestone since its inception.

Considering subsidiary firms, consolidated basis sales revenue for the third quarter reached 39.1 billion KRW (approximately 29.8 million USD), with an operating profit of 3.4 billion KRW (approximately 2.6 million USD). Cube Entertainment’s flagship artist, (G)I-DLE, played a pivotal role in these achievements. Their three consecutive chart-topping hits in 2023, “TOMBOY,” “Nxde,” and “Queencard,” significantly boosted key performance indicators across various domains, such as album sales, digital music, and advertising, culminating in record-breaking cumulative sales for the third quarter.

“(G)I-DLE’s three-fold success and their million-seller status have boosted the intellectual property (IP) value,” a CUBE representative said. “The expanding global fandom has led to a 170% increase in advertising revenue compared to the same period last year, which includes numerous advertising contracts, such as luxury brand ambassadors.”

CUBE Entertainment previously dealt with the departure of six members of PENTAGON. In addition to that, all members of BTOB chose not to renew their contracts with the agency.

Hoshi fueled fans’ anticipation

SEVENTEEN‘s Hoshi fueled fans’ anticipation during their seventh Korean fan meeting. In a cheeky move that defied the company’s instructions, Hoshi introduced five trainees in the crowd and said they would be in PLEDIS Entertainment’s upcoming boy group. The trainees kept their face masks on but acknowledged the applauding crowd.

Woozi added, “Whenever the CEO tells us not to do something, it’s always Choi Seungcheol and Kwon Soonyoung who go out and do those exact things.”

Jimin’s Tattoo Artist Posts Shirtless Photos of the Star on SNS

BTS‘s Jimin has always captured fans’ hearts with his music and style, but recently, it’s his tattoos that are drawing significant attention. Tattoo artist Dong Hwa from Blind Studio took to social media to share a series of shirtless photos of Jimin, showcasing the intricate tattoos that adorn his body, and fans are absolutely thrilled.

Instagram/@dx2ta2

The “NEVERMIND” tattoo, prominently inked on his ribs, is perhaps one of Jimin‘s most famous pieces. Originally a temporary design, Jimin later decided to make it a permanent one. This tattoo, along with others, was revealed in the shirtless photos that have now gone viral, highlighting not only the art but also Jimin‘s chiseled physique.

Jimin’s other tattoos

Among the other tattoos he has is the number ’13’ on the inside of his wrist. Fans speculate that it could represent BTS‘s debut date or Jimin‘s birthday. Additionally, he has moons on his back. They were first seen during the promotions for his solo album FACE. In 2022, Jimin revealed that these tattoos were inspired by a piece of fan art by digital illustrator @ArizzoStudios on X (formerly known as Twitter). It was his bandmate Kim Taehyung, aka V, who showed the fan art to him.

Instagram/@dx2ta2

Jimin’s other tattoos include the words “Young” and “Forever” near his elbows, echoing the BTS track “Young Forever,” and the word “Youth” inscribed in cursive behind his ear. Jimin also has the number seven tattooed on his finger, which symbolizes the BTS members’ unity. He once said, “Like I told you guys before, I wanted it here so that you’d be able to see it when I hold the mic when I sing, but because my hands are really small, you can’t really see it. you have to use a thinner mic to see it.”

The tattoo artist speaks

Dong Hwa, in sharing these photos, also shared his long-time connection with BTS, expressing his admiration for their passion and hard work. “After much contemplation, I’ve decided to post this. I regard them as cool musicians who have shown passion and perseverance for nearly a decade. I’ve known them since before their debut, and while I’ve worked on various projects with the company and the members, unfortunately, we haven’t been able to meet often due to their busy schedules. There were both big and small concerns I had while working with them, but my support has always been unwavering. Among the many projects I’ve been involved with, I’m sharing the tattoo photos we did with Jimin first. Please view them in a positive light.”

In addition to the tattoo reveal, Jimin has also been stirring excitement with a new dance video on Instagram, sporting impressive blonde hair and hinting at potential new projects. Fans are eager to see what “main dancer Jimin” has in store next. – K-Pop News Writer

SEVENTEEN Soars to No. 2 on Billboard 200 With ‘SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN’

SEVENTEEN has just scored their fourth consecutive top 10 album on the Billboard 200! On November 5, Billboard announced that the 13-member boy group’s new mini album SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN  debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. It’s a weekly ranking of the most popular albums in the United States. Luminate (formerly Nielsen Music) wrote, SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN earned a total of 100,000 equivalent album units during the week ending on November 2, consisting mainly of physical album sales (98,000).

SEVENTEEN previously entered the top 10 with their 2022 album Face the Sun (which peaked at No. 7), their repackaged album SECTOR 17 (No. 4), and their previous mini album FML (No. 2). The mini album SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN sold over 5 million copies in the first week, rewriting K-pop album sales records. In Japan, it claimed the top spot on Oricon’s weekly and weekly combined album rankings. That cemented SEVENTEEN’s status as the international artist that topped both charts with the most albums at 11.

SEVENTEEN achieved a triple crown

But that’s not all. Circle Chart (formerly known as Gaon Chart) revealed its chart rankings for the week of October 22 to 28. SEVENTEEN achieved a triple crown that week, topping three separate charts with SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN and its title track “God of Music.” SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN also swept all of the top three spots on that week’s physical album chart. Its regular version debuted at No. 1, the Weverse version at No. 2, and the KiT version at No. 3.

The title track from the album is also doing well. SEVENTEEN just wrapped up a perfect week of music show wins with a fifth trophy for “God of Music.” On the November 5 episode of SBS’s Inkigayo, the first place candidates were AKMU’s “Fry’s Dream,” SEVENTEEN’s “God of Music,” and BLACKPINK’s Jennie’s “You & Me.” SEVENTEEN ultimately took the win with a total of 8,290 points—meaning that the song won every single music show the group performed it on, starting from Wednesday’s Show Champion all the way to Sunday’s Inkigayo (with M Countdown, Music Bank, and Music Core in between).

Meanwhile, the 13-member act will resume its Japan tour in Saitama on Nov. 23 and will hop over to Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka until Dec. 17. – K-Pop News Writer

Labor of Love: TXT’s Soobin Bakes Goodies for MOAs

Soobin, the beloved leader of TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) recently took the concept of fan service to a new level. He personally baked cookies for the group’s fans. This act of kindness is part of the growing yeok jo gong trend, where idols give “reverse tributes” to their fans.

Each cookie came with a sticker that read, “It’s not much, but it’s a gift filled with my love. I’m always grateful! – Made by Kong MC.” Soobin‘s thoughtfulness prompted him to make different cookies to cater to fans with nut allergies.

The baking session took place at a cafe after Soobin‘s schedule had ended, with his older sister assisting in the five to six-hour endeavor. Soobin‘s dedication to creating these gifts, despite the pressures of his idol schedule, did not go unnoticed by the fans or the cafe staff.

X/@soobrise

Soobin, master of icing

Days after the fan meeting, Soobin went live on Weverse. He admitted that baking made him very nervous because he didn’t know if MOAs would like the cookies. He said, “I got back to our dorm at 5:00 AM, showered, and laid down to sleep, but I was like, ‘What if it doesn’t taste good?’ ‘What if the shape turned out bad?’ But I was also excited, and I was like, ‘I’m not someone that works at a cafe so MOAs will understand and think it’s cute.’ To the people who tried it, was it good? Hehe, I did try a little bit during the process and I think it was really yummy!”

The cafe owner, a friend of Soobin‘s sister, generously offered their space and ingredients for the project. But he worried the cafe owner would find it hard to help prepare everything they needed. “I felt bad, so I told my sister, ‘Should we just bake things that we can give MOAs that come to the live show?’ And she was like, ‘Why? Let’s make it for everyone.’ And I was like, ‘I want to, but I feel bad asking the owner to prepare so many ingredients.’ And she was like, ‘I’ll ask!’ And the owner was like, ‘There’s nothing to worry about, we’ll do all of them!’ I felt grateful because they didn’t hesitate at all.”

The owner of Celona, the cafe where Soobin baked, took to Instagram to share their experience. They noted that aside from baking, he dried off all the grapes himself. “Soobin was an angel and a master of icing! I don’t know if you still want to open a cafe, but please come back here to bake and make coffee at any time.”

An extremely special relationship

Reflecting on his own experiences as a fan, Soobin acknowledged the unique love between a singer and their fans. He now understands the importance of accepting and appreciating all the efforts fans make, recognizing the special bond they share.  “I think there’s a kind of love that can only exist between a singer and their fans—one that doesn’t happen between friends or people dating. They exist for each other and want each other to be happy and hope for better things for the other than for themselves. It seems like it really only exists between fans and singers,” he says.

“Actually, as a singer, whenever fans came to a fan signing event with a fan letter in hand and said, ‘I’m going to hold a birthday cafe event for you,’ I would say, ‘I think your hand will be tired from writing letters every time you come. I’m thankful you make time for me but I hope you don’t spend your money.’ But now I think I should be grateful and accepting of everything they do. I think I understand them better now, too. I’m the kind of person who puts the happiness of my fans ahead of my own unconditionally, but the fans also put my happiness first and feeling that again, I realized it’s an extremely special relationship.”

Soobin‘s gesture not only brought smiles to the faces of MOAs but also set a beautiful example of the mutual love and respect that exists within the K-pop community. – K-Pop News Writer
