Former IZ*ONE Member Yabuki Nako Shocks Fans With Sexy New Drama

buki Nako, a Japanese actress and singer with a significant following in South Korea, has always been known for her cute and bubbly image. Her career began with the 2005 film Touch, followed by commercials and TV movies like Detective Samonji Susumu and My Father’s Longest Day. She joined the Fukuoka-based idol group HKT48 in 2013 and later held a concurrent position in AKB48. Her journey in the Mnet survival show Produce 48 led to her debut in IZ*ONE, where she remained until April 2021.

After returning to Japan and resuming activities with HKT48, Nako centered two singles before announcing her graduation from HKT48 in October 2022. Reflecting on her idol career, she said she has no regrets. “I had always decided that I would graduate HKT48 at the age of twenty. I wanted to find the right time, for me, the fans, and the other members. Whether it was performing in the center, or making the Senbatsu Election, or being selected for AKB48, I believe I achieved all my goals as an idol. I was diligent in my career.”

Nako‘s next move was to resume her acting career, and she did so with a bang. She’s currently starring in the J-drama 18-sai, Niizuma, Furin Shimasu, alongside Ryusei Fujii. The drama, based on the popular comic series by Shiho Watanabe, features Nako in a bold and mature role that deviates significantly from her previous image.

Yabuki Nako New Drama

Yabuki Nako is a brave and versatile actress

In the drama, Nako plays Meika Sanjo, who enters a contract marriage with Kou Fujimiya, portrayed by Fujii. The plot thickens as they navigate the complexities of love, marriage, and affairs. One particularly bold scene in the drama has garnered significant attention. Here, Meika tries to give in to Kou, bravely offering to sleep with him. Kou, seemingly accepting her offer, moves to kiss her. As they fall to the bed, Meika tells herself she can go through with it for Kou’s sake, yet her fear is palpable. In a twist, Kou chides her for trying to do something she isn’t ready for, and the scene concludes with Meika expressing gratitude to Kou for his understanding.

This scene, although devoid of explicit content, marked a dramatic shift from Nako‘s previously established cute image, shocking many fans. The lines delivered by Nako were notably risqué, discussing how “kissing and hugging could make Kou horny.” The stark contrast from her earlier roles and the mature theme of the scene highlighted Nako‘s versatility as an actress. This departure from her original image, while unexpected, showcased her ability to embrace more complex and mature themes in her acting career.

The reaction from fans has been mixed. While some expressed shock at the scene, others defended her choices as those of an adult. Regardless of the varied reactions, Nako‘s performance speaks volumes about her bravery and versatility as an actress. Her ability to take on roles that might intimidate others bodes well for her career. – K-Pop News Writer

Here’s where Jungkook performed

The TSX stage, a striking new addition to Times Square, stands out with its 18,000-square-foot billboard display. That makes it a dynamic backdrop for performances. This billboard wraps around the skyscraper at the southeast corner of 7th Avenue and 47th Street. It also faces the iconic Red Steps of Times Square. The display system, a product of SNA Displays’ Empire Exterior LED technology, features an 8 mm pixel pitch and boasts a resolution of 3,480 x 7,440 pixels. This makes it the highest-resolution display in Times Square’s history, capable of processing approximately 25 million pixels.

The video display system not only boasts impressive visual capabilities but also comes equipped with 8K Ultra-HD processing. That means it’s ready to handle the next wave of video and broadcast media content. TSX Broadway, where the stage is located, is among several notable installations by SNA Displays in the Times Square area. Notably, SNA Displays is also responsible for the wrap-around LED mega-spectacular at the neighboring 20 Times Square.

YG Entertainment Founder Yang Hyun-suk Sentenced to Prison

Yang Hyun-suk, the founder of YG Entertainment, has been sentenced to six months in prison with a one-year probation period. This verdict comes after a prolonged legal battle involving charges of coercion and threats related to a drug case involving former iKON member B.I, aka Kim Han Bin.

What happened to Yang Hyun-suk?

In the initial trial, Yang Hyun-suk was acquitted of charges related to threatening an informant in an attempt to cover up drug charges against B.I. However, in a subsequent trial, the Seoul High Court’s Criminal Division 6-3 found him guilty. The prosecution had previously sought a three-year prison sentence for him on similar charges.

Yang was indicted on charges including coercion of interviews under the Aggravated Punishment Act for Specific Crimes. He was put on trial following accusations of cajoling and threatening Han Seo Hee, a former YG trainee, to defuse the investigation surrounding B.I‘s drug charges after a police arrest in August 2016.

Additionally, a former managing associate with YG received a four-month imprisonment sentence along with one year of probation. The courts stated that the prosecution appealed, purporting the victim’s statement was credible. However, amendments to the indictment involved a forced interview with Yang Hyun-suk, hampering the defendant’s right to defense.

The court ruled that this forced meeting may have potentially triggered psychological distress and put undue pressure on the victim. They also said that as the representative of YG, Yang misused his position and exercised dominance over B.I, reprimanding him. That’s why they found him guilty.

The prosecution previously stated that Yang Hyun-suk intervened in former iKON member B.I‘s drug informant case to neutralize the report. He also exercised abuse of power to cover up the scandal to not put the artist’s popularity and profits at risk since it helped Yang Hyun-suk gain a substantial part of his personal wealth.

A series of scandals

Yang resigned from YG in 2019 when the agency was mired in a series of scandals. These stretched from drugs to prostitution and an allegedly corrupt relationship with the police. The problems began with the band BIGBANG and its maknae Seungri, but also affected other YG artists.

Following the exposure of the Burning Sun prostitution, rape, and spy cam scandal, Seungri was tried by a military court. He denied most of the charges but was soon found guilty of securing prostitutes for investors. He was also found guilty of misappropriation of more than $300,000 of funds from a nightclub. Later, his jail term was reduced from three years to 18 months after changing to a guilty plea on all nine counts.

YG Entertainment, founded in 1996 by then-dancer and producer Yang, has grown into one of the top three K-pop agencies alongside JYP Entertainment and SM Entertainment. It has produced top K-pop acts including 2NE1, BIGBANG, and BLACKPINK. – K-Pop News Writer

Acknowledgment from Taehyun

Her message to Taehyun reached him thanks to other MOAs, who translated it and shared it on the fan community platform Weverse. A touched YeonjunTXT’s mat-hyung or eldest member—left a comment on one such post. He wrote, “Taehyun-ah, you should see this.” That drew the younger member’s attention to Tia’s words.

SM Entertainment Unveils 2024 Artist Strategy

SM Entertainment, a powerhouse in the K-pop industry, recently unveiled its comprehensive artist strategy for the first quarter of 2024. This ambitious plan includes a slew of album, mini album, and single releases from several of its top artists, as well as an exciting lineup of concerts and overseas tours.

Following the news that Taeyeon’s mini album To.X is set to drop on November 27, the agency revealed that NCT 127, Super Junior’s Ryeowook, and TVXQ will also release new music before 2023 ends. NCT 127 and Ryeowook will drop singles, while TVXQ is prepping a full album.

The first quarter of 2024 looks promising, with aespa set to release an all-English album. Other anticipated releases include new material from EXO’s Suho, NCT Dream, NCT’s Taeyong and Ten, and Red Velvet’s Wendy. Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon (known as HYO) and aespa are slated to drop singles, while rookie boy band RIIZE will return with two new singles—in Korean and Japanese. Additionally, a new NCT unit will release a Japanese single during this period.

Concerts and tours are also a significant part of SM Entertainment’s 2024 strategy. Yesung’s solo concerts in the Philippines and Macau, as well as SHINee’s Asian tour, have already been announced. The first quarter will also see SHINee’s Key performing a solo concert in South Korea. NCT 127 and TVXQ are preparing for Asia tours. SHINee’s Taemin and the SMTOWN collective will embark on a tour of Japan.

SM Entertainment is doing well

SM Entertainment’s Q3 earnings report for 2023 showcased a record-breaking quarter, with a consolidated operating profit of KRW 50.5 billion ($42 million), a 70% year-on-year increase, and revenue of KRW 266.3 billion ($223 million), a 12% YoY increase. The agency’s net profit also saw a significant jump, increasing by 189% to KRW 84.2 billion ($70 million).

This strong performance is attributed to increased music sales from artists such as aespa, NCT DREAM, and RIIZE. The agency sold a record-breaking 8.71 million new albums in Q3, with NCT DREAM alone selling 4.32 million copies. Other artists including EXO, NCT, and RIIZE also earned the million-seller status, contributing to the company’s robust earnings.

Looking ahead, SM Entertainment anticipates strong album and music revenues for Q4 of 2023 and Q1 of 2024, thanks to its upcoming releases. The agency also plans to expand its music publishing business through Kreation Music Rights (KMR). SM Entertainment aims to secure 80 talented songwriters and establish overseas subsidiaries.

NiziU Makes History as First Foreign Group to Win a South Korean Music Show

Japanese idol group NiziU has made history by winning the Champion Song title on MBC’s Show Champion with their first Korean song, “Heartris.” This victory marks their first-ever win on any South Korean music show, a significant achievement for the group. They beat out Golden Child’s “Feel me,” IVE’s “Baddie,” and SEVENTEEN’s “God of Music.” Not even “Standing Next to You” by Jungkook of BTS could keep them from first place!

[MC석 코너] 친구같은 컴백 인터뷰! ‘NiziU’ 나!왔어✋🏻

The win was a momentous occasion, not just for NiziU but also for the industry as a whole, as they became the first non-Korean group to ever achieve this feat. The significance of this victory was evident in the emotional reactions of both the members and their fans. During their acceptance speech, the members expressed their heartfelt gratitude to fans worldwide for their unwavering support. They also had the opportunity to perform the iconic “Encore” stage.

NiziU‘s “Heartris” is the title track of their first Korean single album, Press Play, which came out on October 30. The song’s title is a portmanteau of the words “heart” and “Tetris.” It describes what happens when two different people come together like blocks in a game of Tetris. It was penned by Park Jin-young, the chief producer at their agency JYP Entertainment.

[HOT DEBUT] 니쥬(NiziU) – HEARTRIS

Congratulations, NiziU!

The group is part of JYP Entertainment’s Globalization by Localization project. They debuted in Japan in December 2020. They were assembled on the survival show Nizi Project, a joint venture with Sony Music Entertainment. Known for hits like “Make you happy,” “Chopstick,” and “Take a picture,” NiziU has nine members: Ayaka, Mako, Maya, Mayuka, Miihi, Nina, Riku, Rio, and Rima, all of whom are Japanese.

Language barriers posed a challenge during their Korean debut, but the group overcame these through teamwork and support from their producers. Members like Rio acknowledged their struggle to sing in Korean, while Miihi said Park Jin-young‘s guidance was instrumental in the process. “He taught us a lot, like how to address the song and how to deliver good vocals,” she said. “He also told us that the most important thing is us getting along.”

Jungkook Earns Platinum Certification for ‘SEVEN,’ Joins Jimmy Fallon

Jungkook, from the iconic K-pop group BTS, has recently achieved a significant milestone with his solo single “Seven (feat. Latto)” being certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). This achievement, announced by his label BigHit Music, means the song has sold over one million units since it dropped in July. This is Jungkook‘s first certification after his collaboration with Charlie Puth, “Left and Right,” went gold in 2022.

The RIAA’s certification system includes gold, platinum, multi-platinum, and diamond levels, based on a combination of physical and digital album sales, digital downloads, and weighted audio and video streaming. “Seven (feat. Latto)” crossed the platinum threshold, indicating its massive popularity.

Jungkook on cooking, touring, and more

GOLDEN, released worldwide on November 3, is a collection of 11 songs. When asked about its title, Jungkook said, “I have a lot of association to this term ‘golden,’ and when my mom was pregnant, she had a golden dream. When I look back on my journey, it’s very much a golden moment. So when I thought about the title of this album, ‘GOLDEN’ was the only thing that came up in my mind.”

He and Jimmy Fallon ate pizza together while talking about Jungkook’s love for cooking and his goal to embark on a world tour. “Of course I want to do a world tour as a solo artist, but I don’t think I have enough songs for that. So I want to complement them and make more songs. Maybe when I’m ready, I can do the tour in full swing,” he said. He also taught the host some dance moves for “Standing Next to You,” the album’s title track, which he also performed in full after.

Jungkook Apologizes for TODAY Show Performance Issues

Jungkook, a member of the globally renowned K-pop group BTS, recently graced the TODAY Show with a solo performance that stopped traffic around the show’s New York City studios. His appearance on November 8, promoting his debut solo album GOLDEN, drew an enormous crowd, rivaling the 15,000 fans who showed up for Colombian singer-songwriter Karol G in July. His fans, known as ARMYs, had been lining up since November 6 to secure prime spots for the show.

Hoda Kotb, one of the show’s hosts, escorted Jungkook to the stage. Savannah Guthrie, another host, pointed out that many in the crowd were wearing headbands featuring his BT21 character, the pink bunny Cooky. What’s more, they were eagerly chanting “JK! JK!” in anticipation. Moments later, Jungkook began his set. Clad in a sparkly jacket, black shirt, and matching pants, he started with “3D,” his collaboration with Jack Harlow. The fans made up for the latter’s absence by singing along to his pre-recorded verse.

Jungkook paused in between songs to thank the crowd for coming. He then wished them a “GOLDEN day” before launching into his single “Standing Next to You.” His band gave it an edgy twist with crashing drums and rocking guitar, which complemented the singer’s falsetto perfectly. Then he moved to a thrust stage in the middle of the crowd to show off some fancy footwork. He also interacted with fans, even offering a greeting to one lucky ARMY celebrating her 10th birthday. Jungkook’s final song was “Seven (feat. Latto),” which recently became the fastest song to reach a billion Spotify streams.

Jungkook apologized on Weverse

Despite the freezing weather, Jungkook’s vocals remained clear and stable. However, later that day he took to Weverse to apologize for what he felt was a subpar performance. The outdoor venue’s acoustics were poor compared to those of an indoor venue. It wasn’t his fault, but Jungkook is something of a perfectionist, and he really wasn’t satisfied with how he sounded. He wrote, “ARMYs, I apologize. I messed up the live performance. There’s no excuse, and I’ll strive to do better in the next live performance.”

Fans were puzzled by his apology, as many saw no flaws in his performance. Comments flooded in, ranging from confusion to praise, with fans asserting that he did well.

ENHYPEN Opens Up About ‘ORANGE BLOOD’ Recording in Forbes Middle East Interview

In an exclusive interview with Forbes Middle East, ENHYPEN shared exciting details about their upcoming mini-album ORANGE BLOOD. The interview was published ahead of their first gig in Abu Dhabi on November 11.

Brighter, warmer things

The album continues the narrative introduced in DARK BLOOD. Jake, a member of the septet, says that while previous album focused on darker themes like sacrifice and fate, ORANGE BLOOD is a representation of brighter, warmer things. “It’s going to portray this warm vibe we’re trying to send to our fans.”

ENHYPEN has been actively involved in the creative aspects of their music. For “Bite Me,” DARK BLOOD’s title track, Heeseung took part in studio directing and Ni-Ki worked on the choreography. For ORANGE BLOOD, Jay played a significant role in writing “Sweet Venom.” I just tried to figure out what word is best for our team and matches our team then sent it to our company. But yeah, I think I was just lucky, and they liked some of those,” he says modestly.

“Sweet Venom” is a pop-punk song with a groovy bassline. It tells the story of a boy confronting his own mortality, expressing his feelings through a poison metaphor. He says the poison, while harmful, makes him feel alive. The song is available in three versions: Korean, English, and a version featuring American singer Bella Poarch.

ORANGE BLOOD also includes the R&B/soft pop song “Mortal,” the ballad “Still Monster,” and the alternative R&B track “멀어 (Far Away).” Each song has a unique theme. For example, “Orange Flower (You Complete Me)” likens gratitude and positive emotions to orange blossoms.

ENHYPEN on the pressures of idol life

ENHYPEN, candid about the pressures of idol life, continues to delve deeper into their artistry and their personalities with each new release. But since they live life at the center of a storm, how do they navigate it?

Ni-Ki, their maknae, says he leans on his hyungs a lot. “That’s a tricky question, but you know, I’ve got my brothers, my members beside me all the time. They got my back, and I want to think of this experience not as something I’m doing on my own, but as a journey we’re on together, as a group,” he explains. “And the parts that I’m missing or lacking, the other members are always there to fill the gaps. So, I wouldn’t mind much of the negative things. I’d like to view this from a positive aspect and, you know, enjoy the entire experience and always be excited.”

For his part, Sunghoon says the confidence he gained after three years in the industry is key. Jay, meanwhile, says standing his ground on certain things helps him get through it all.

As they approach their third anniversary as a band, ENHYPEN looks forward to the response to ORANGE BLOOD and the dance challenges it will inspire on social media. The band, set to release the album at 2:00 PM on the 17th, will also unveil the first teaser for the “Sweet Venom”  music Video on the 14th as part of their promotional activities. – K-Pop News Writer
