Fresh off the release of his eagerly awaited solo album GOLDEN, BTS‘s Jungkook treated fans to a surprise concert in Times Square. The 26-year-old singer took to the TSX stage, utilizing the first permanent stage in this iconic New York City location. He performed several songs from GOLDEN, giving fans only a 30-minute heads-up. Despite the short notice, the singer drew a massive audience, with estimates suggesting around 10,000 attendees.

Jungkook kicked off the event with a New Year’s Eve-style countdown, opening with the track “Standing Next to You.” He expressed awe at performing at an iconic location, remarking, “This place is amazing. It’s an honor to perform in New York’s Times Square. The view is incredible.” He then performed other songs including “Yes Or No,” “3D,” his collaboration with Jack Harlow, “Please Don’t Change,” and “Seven,” his chart-topping track with Latto.

Here’s where Jungkook performed

The TSX stage, a striking new addition to Times Square, stands out with its 18,000-square-foot billboard display. That makes it a dynamic backdrop for performances. This billboard wraps around the skyscraper at the southeast corner of 7th Avenue and 47th Street. It also faces the iconic Red Steps of Times Square. The display system, a product of SNA Displays’ Empire Exterior LED technology, features an 8 mm pixel pitch and boasts a resolution of 3,480 x 7,440 pixels. This makes it the highest-resolution display in Times Square’s history, capable of processing approximately 25 million pixels.

The video display system not only boasts impressive visual capabilities but also comes equipped with 8K Ultra-HD processing. That means it’s ready to handle the next wave of video and broadcast media content. TSX Broadway, where the stage is located, is among several notable installations by SNA Displays in the Times Square area. Notably, SNA Displays is also responsible for the wrap-around LED mega-spectacular at the neighboring 20 Times Square.

The stage itself, spanning 4,000 square feet, is suspended 30 feet above the ground. It features uniquely engineered LED doors, crafted by Show Canada Industries. These doors swing inward on hydraulic hinges, creating an illusion that performers are part of the video wall.
