Watch: Stray Kids Announces ‘Rock-Star’ Comeback With a Cinematic Prologue Video

Are you ready, STAYs? K-pop boy group Stray Kids will soon be blessing fans with new music!

On Friday, October 6, the “S-Class” hitmakers released a cinematic prologue video to announce their comeback with the upcoming mini-album 樂-STAR (pronounced as ROCK-STAR).

In the one-and-a-half minute clip, members Felix and Bang Chan narrated the story of a young boy dreaming before going on stage. Following the striking plot, Felix’s voice offered a soothing presence while Bang Chan showed a manic delivery of lines.

In addition, all the eight members: Han, Felix, Bang Chan, Hyunjin, Changmin, I.N. Seungmin and Lee Know made their appearance as different characters in the young boy’s dreams.

With the young boy’s stage time approaching, Bang Chan whispered: “The anxiety is something we create ourselves.” Then, Felix tried to calm the boy by saying: “We believe that you’ll do great if you can get beyond these emotions and enjoy these moments.”

The prologue concluded with the child finally stepping on the stage to perform. Which was followed by the narrators shouting in unison: “Let’s show them how we rock!”

With its November 10 release, 樂-STAR will come five months after Stray Kids released their full-length album 5-STAR in June.

According to the group’s agency, JYP Entertainment, the upcoming album will have a “close relationship” to the previous record. However, additional details, such as number of songs and title track, have yet to be announced.

STAYs’ anticipation for Stray Kids’ 樂-STAR

With the official announcement, the group’s fandom, STAYs, have trended the hashtags “StrayKidsComeback” and “ROCK_STAR” to showcase their excitement.

“It looks so amazing and cool I cannot wait for it. Stray Kids you never cease to surprise us,” one fan wrote. Meanwhile, another fan gave a flattering remark of how detailed the prologue video is.

STAYs are even more thrilled to see the new album break new records.

To note, the eight-member boy group has previously dominated the Billboard charts, having three of their works: ODDINARY, MAXIDENT and 5-STAR all clinched the No. 1 spot in the Billboards 200

Aside from the album records, Stray Kids continue to solidify their position in the music industry through their consecutive achievements.

In 2023 alone, Stray Kids became the first K-pop group to headline the LollaPalooza Festival in Paris. As well as bagging the “Best K-Pop” award at the 2023 MTV VMAs.

Currently, the group from JYP Entertainment is also nominated at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Aju Nice! SEVENTEEN Surpasses 10 Million Album Sales for 2023 in Just 9 Months

K-pop powerhouse SEVENTEEN continues to dominate the industry by setting records after records. With the last quarter of 2023 still to come, the group has achieved another milestone in their career.

In the data released by the group’s agency Pledis Entertainment on Thursday, October 5, it was revealed that the “Super” hitmakers have sold an unprecedented record of 11,043, 625 physical albums, from January to September of 2023 alone.

A huge contributor to this massive number is the group’s 10th Mini Album FML, released in April. For that album, SEVENTEEN broke the group’s personal record for the most pre-ordered album, having sold a whopping 4.64 million pre-orders.

Two months after its release, Circle Charts revealed that FML is now the highest-selling Korean album of all time, surpassing 6 million copies in sales.

Moreover, the boy group’s 4th full-length album Face The Sun released in May 2022 sold more than 950,000 copies.

Meanwhile, Second Wind by SEVENTEEN’s subunit BSS also contributed to the total sales. Consisting of members Seungkwan, Dokyeom, and Hoshi, BSS topped local and international charts with the release of their title track “Fighting”, featuring rapper Lee Young Ji.

Notably, SEVENTEEN’s decision to re-release eight of their out-of-print albums also helped in boosting sales. Among the albums they re-released include: 17CARAT, BOYS BE, A1, and TEEN, AGE.

Prior to this achievement, SEVENTEEN’s cumulative album sales in South Korea exceeded 10 million in November 2021. Which means that the group achieved the feat six and a half years after their debut in 2015.

Undoubtedly, the group’s popularity continued to grow exponentially thanks to their unrivaled discography and world-class performances. With the impressive 10 Million album sales in just nine months, SEVENTEEN has now become the first Korean artist in history to achieve this feat.

More to come from SEVENTEEN

After the previous album’s success, the “theater kids of K-pop” are soon getting back on track with their 11th mini album. Titled Seventeenth Heaven,  the group is set to celebrate their wins so far with the fandom CARATs, through a festival-like concept.

As part of the promotions, the 13-member group will hold the offline event “Seventeen Street in Seongsu-dong.” The will consist of exhibition experiences, art walls, and collaboration stores. As for the album, it will officially be released on October 23.

Apart from music, the group also proved their entertainment skills through a number of variety shows. As of writing, Seungkwan stars in the Netflix survival show The Devil’s Plan. Meanwhile, Jeonghan and Dino are part of the travel program Magic Lamp

Additionally, SEVENTEEN has also finished shooting Nana’s Tour, the group’s version of Youth Over Flowers with PD Na Yeong Seok. Details about the show’s release are yet to be announced.

TXT Fuels Fans’ Speculations With New Concept Film and Photos

TOMORROW X TOGETHER, popularly known as TXT, is gearing up for a sensational comeback. Their recently unveiled concept photos have ignited fan speculations and theories about the themes of their upcoming album, The Name Chapter: FREEFALL.

The Name Chapter: FREEFALL Concept Clip ‘REALITY’

The REALITY photos showcase a more somber and intense side of the band. Members are wearing black, often standing in the rain. Umbrellas feature prominently, sometimes shielding the members, while at other times, they gaze pensively at the camera, letting the raindrops fall upon them. Soobin stands out with a lip ring, enhancing the gothic ambiance. One of his photos says, “Stand tall, walk tall.” Yeonjun is captured dancing in the rain, donning a black blazer and dungarees. Each member’s concept photos include a daytime shot, a nighttime image under tungsten lighting, a close-up, and a black-and-white photo.

The Name Chapter: FREEFALL Concept Clip ‘MELANCHOLY’

TXT got a new pet for this album

Next, TXT dropped a second set of concept photos titled MELANCHOLY. These images highlight the band’s distinctive visual style and charisma. The photos exude an intriguing ambiance in a warehouse filled with instruments and an outdoor scene adorned with ferns and flowers. Notably, some images feature the members posing with a dog, leading fans to speculate about the album’s musical direction. One fan theorized a connection between the dog and the time “5:53,” referencing their single “Blue Hour.”

The inclusion of the dog in the concept photos has sparked fervent discussions among fans. One fan commented, “Why do I think there’s a reason they used a wolfdog, not just a dog? ‘5:53’ is the hour between ‘dog and wolf.’ There’s a French expression, “L’heure entre chien et loup.” It refers to an indistinguishable time ‘between a dog and a wolf,’ and it is neither day nor night. There are so many references here. I did some research, and a wolfdog looks different from a husky.”

Another fan added, “Entre chien et loup”? L’heure bleue literally means ‘blue hour.’ It’s 5:53 all over again.” The number 5:53 holds significance as it refers to TXT’s single “Blue Hour.” The song’s Korean title, “5시 53분의 하늘에서 발견한 너와 나,” refers to 5:53 PM, which is the golden hour in Seoul during October.

The Name Chapter: FREEFALL Concept Clip ‘CLARITY’

A more serene and hopeful vibe

The CLARITY concept photos present a more serene and hopeful vibe. The members are seen enjoying each other’s company against a stunning orange sky. These visuals, when compared to the darker tones of MELANCHOLY and REALITY, are different in a refreshing way. The members are captured on a rooftop, looking up at the sky, reminiscent of their previous group pictures from The Dream Chapter: ETERNITY era. The outfits, especially the plaid print, were appreciated by fans, with many pointing out their resemblance to their Lollapalooza stage costumes.

Fans of Fifty Fifty Boycott Attrakt for Its New Compilation Album

As the legal battle between K-pop girl group FIFTY FIFTY and its agency ATTRAKT continues,  the group’s fandom came in solidarity to support the Cupid singers amidst the controversy.

On Saturday, September 23, the FIFTY FIFTY’s fan union announced a boycott of all merchandise produced by the music label ATTRAKT as a protest against the label’s abuse of the girl group. Such boycott include the group’s physical and digital albums, social media accounts, and paid event tickets.

Moreover, the boycott was prompted after ATTRAKT released a compilation album K-Pop called The Beginning on September 22. Given the circumstances surrounding its release, fans were unhappy with it.

‘The Beginning’ album draws backlash from fans

Despite the immense support for the girl group and their music, the group’s fandom was greatly disappointed and enraged with the poor quality of The Beginning. Which led them to boycott the product yet again.

In a two-minute clip shared by a fan, multiple empty pages in the album were visibly noticed. With the lack of content, some fans stated that it was a waste of money.

Another fan who purchased the album took her sentiments to social media. In a Twitter thread, she listed down all the details regarding the album’s poor quality. First, she pointed out that the photobook had 195 pages in total, and 123 pages of it are either blank, nearly blank, or have irrelevant designs.

Additionally, the user also criticized the reused content with most photos already publicly released, and the repetitive design all throughout the album. Apart from that, the fan also showed pages with random designs that are far from the group’s concept, in an attempt to fill up more space.

Because of this, fans were quick to note that it’s just another way for ATTRAKT to squeeze money from FIFTY FIFTY fans. For them, the lack of thought and preparation for the compilation album is proof of the company’s negligence to the group.

One fan even harshly commented that The Beginning album might just be the worst K-Pop album in history.

FIFTY FIFTY’s legal battle with ATTRAKT

In June 2023, all four members Aran, Sio, Keena, and Saena filed a preliminary injunction with the desire to suspend their exclusive contract with the agency. Moreover the group revealed that the agency lacked providing them fair treatment and proper income distribution.

On the other hand, ATTRAKT CEO Jun Hong Joon, stated that a third party named Ahn Sung Il attempted to poach the girl group. Ahn Sung Il is the CEO of The Givers who has the copyright of FIFTY FIFTY’s debut album registered under his name. Upon discovering Ahn’s anomalies, Jun Hong Joon filed a police report accusing Ahn of fraud, breach of trust, and other offenses.

Following the report, the court approved ATTRAKT’s request to put Ahn Sung Il’s copyright revenue on hold.

With all the contrasting arguments, the group’s heated dispute with the agency remains unresolved.

FIFTY FIFTY Quietly Drops Compilation Album, ‘The Beginning’

Girl group FIFTY FIFTY, best known for their chart-topping track “Cupid,” dropped a compilation album targeting the U.S. market. This comes amidst the members’ ongoing dispute with their agency. However, Attrakt Entertainment remains optimistic that things will work out.

‘The Beginning’ is a U.S. exclusive

The Beginning arrived on streaming services last September 22. The album has five versions of “Cupid,” including a sped-up version, an English version, and a collaboration with American actress and singer Sabrina Carpenter. “Cupid,” which debuted last February, became the longest-charting song by a K-pop girl group on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. All in all, the compilation features 11 songs, including “Higher,” “Login,” “Lovin’ Me,” and “Tell Me” from their previous EP, THE FIFTY.

When asked about the The Beginning, Attrakt CEO Jun Hong Joon told StarNews, “There’s no new recording. We released it as a U.S. exclusive album. We only remixed and remastered it to resonate with the American style.”

The release of a new album amidst the dispute garnered immense attention from netizens. CEO Jun shared, “Before the dispute in May, I met with the CEO of Warner Records in the U.S. and verbally agreed. After returning to Korea in June, we believed the members would return soon and continued the project. We signed the contract in early July, and at the beginning of August, I shipped about 156,000 copies to the U.S. for distribution, and that’s the album that was unveiled on domestic streaming platforms today.”

What will happen to FIFTY FIFTY?

In August, FIFTY FIFTY sought to terminate their exclusive contract with Attrakt. Unfortunately, the Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of the agency. “It’s hard to say there was a breach in providing settlement data, and it’s challenging to see sufficient evidence of neglect. Ending the contract with The Givers is not a breach,” said the court. FIFTY FIFTY has since appealed that decision.

Attrakt previously accused FIFTY FIFTY of “tempering” (reaching out to other companies before their contract ends) and has blamed the third-party production company, The Givers. In retaliation, Attrakt filed a criminal complaint against The Givers’ CEO, Ahn Sung Il, and Director Baek Moon on charges of business obstruction and electronic record destruction.

CEO Jun thinks FIFTY FIFTY should return to Attrakt now that the case has been dismissed. “It’s heartbreaking that they are still being gaslighted by CEO Ahn,” he said. “Tempering needs to be eradicated. It shouldn’t set a bad precedent in the K-pop market. Laws should be revised to strengthen punishments in line with reality.” – K-Pop News Writer

Besides being the group’s first all-English EP, fans are also looking forward to HEAT because it’s a collaboration of the group’s agency, CUBE Entertainment, and American music recording company 88Rising. The collaboration was first announced in July.

Initially set for a September 8 release, HEAT will be out on October 5. According to 88rising, the changes are made to “ensure the best quality” for the EP. At the time, they said that they’re already working hard to put the finishing touches.

(G)I-DLE’s record after record

With their upcoming English EP, fans are excited to witness the girl group surpass their previous achievements.

In May, (G)I-DLE released their sixth mini-album I feel with the hit title track “Queencard”. Said album broke the group’s own first-week album sales record having sold over 1.16 Million copies upon its release.

In a Weverse post, SEVENTEEN has also unveiled the titles and cover arts of Seventeenth Heaven’s album versions.

In contrast to the minimalistic cover of their last album FML, Seventeenth Heaven features a light and playful vibe which piqued the interest of fans. Additionally, The cover included random details such as a smiling flower, a unicorn and some hot air balloons.

Moreover, fans were moved upon discovering the version names were important dates for the group and the fandom.

The first version “AM 5:26” marks SEVENTEEN’s debut date. Then, the second version “PM 2:14” marks CARATs, the fandom’s, anniversary. Meanwhile, the third version “PM 10:23” marks the release date for the said 11th mini album.

From FML to Seventeenth Heaven

Given its October release, Seventeenth Heaven will come six months after the release of their FML in April. The group’s record-breaking 10th mini-album set various career highs for the group.

Previously, FML set the record for the highest first-week sales of any album in Hanteo, having sold over 4.5 million copies.  What’s more impressive is that 3.99 million copies were sold on the first day alone.

In July, the album distributor YG PLUS announced that FML had officially sold over 6.2 million copies. With this feat, SEVENTEEN became the first K-Pop artist to sell over six million copies of a single album.

CARATs’ anticipation for SVT’s comeback

With the success of FML, CARATs are even more anticipating what SEVENTEEN has yet to show.

Interestingly, the group’s performance unit leader Hoshi, who’s also known to be a spoiler king, teased the fans saying they “always go beyond expectations”.

However, the group’s leader S.Coups will have to sit out on the promotions for Seventeenth Heaven. Currently, he’s taking a break from group activities as he suffered from a knee injury in August.

Apart from the Seventeenth Heaven preparations, the Rock With You” singers are also in the middle of their fourth world tour, Follow. The 13-member group is set to finish Follow’s Japan leg in December, then continue the tour by dominating the stadiums in Asia in 2023.

Aside from their records made through FML, SEVENTEEN also achieved another milestone with their previous world tour BE THE SUN. According to reports, the act was the only K-pop artist that ranked in Billboard’s 2023 Top Tours chart.
