Suzy Considering New Mystery Thriller Drama

Suzy might be working on a new mystery thriller drama soon! The “Doona” star has been confirmed to be considering a role in a new series from “Emergency Declaration” director Han Jae Rim!

Suzy in Talks for New Mystery Thriller Drama

On July 30, it was reported that Suzy might be starring in the upcoming mystery thriller drama “Delusion” (literal title). In response, Suzy’s agency Management SOOP confirmed the news.

“It is true that Suzy received an offer to star in ‘Delusion’ and is currently reviewing the offer,” they said.

“Delusion” is based on a webtoon and is set in 1935 Gyeongseong and 1800s Shanghai. The drama follows the intriguing story of artist Yun Yi Ho, who is commissioned to paint a portrait of the enigmatic woman Song Jung Hwa and subsequently visits her hotel. The project is helmed by director Han Jae Rim, known for his work on films like “The Show Must Go On,” “The King,” and “Emergency Declaration.”

According to the report, Suzy was the first actress considered for the role during the planning stages of “Delusion.” However, her casting was initially canceled due to scheduling conflicts. With adjustments to the production timeline, Suzy once again received an offer to play the role of Song Jung Hwa, a mysterious vampire woman.

In March, it was revealed that Han So Hee and Ryu Jun Yeol had received casting offers for “Delusion.” However, both actors announced in the following month that they had discontinued discussions regarding their involvement in the project, following the news of their breakup.

If Suzy accepts the role, it will mark another significant addition to her growing portfolio of diverse and challenging roles. Known for her versatility, Suzy has previously impressed audiences with her performances in various dramas and films, including “While You Were Sleeping,” “Vagabond,” and “Start-Up.” Her potential involvement in “Delusion” is already generating excitement among fans, who are eager to see her take on the complex character of Song Jung Hwa.

In the Netflix hit series “Doona!”, Suzy portrayed a character that defied conventional expectations, giving viewers a fresh perspective on her acting abilities. Her character, Lee Doo Na, was emotionally unstable and yearned for love and attention from others. Despite her struggles, she found the burden of life as an idol too overwhelming to bear.

Suzy Explains Doo Na’s Rebellious Behavior in Netflix Show

When asked about these unconventional elements of her character in an interview with TV Report, Suzy explained that they were essential to the role and carried significant symbolism. She embraced the opportunity to break the mold of a typical idol character, adding depth and authenticity to her performance.

I think smoking was a tool to express Doo Na’s loneliness,” Suzy said. “That’s why when she was dating Won Jun, she cut down on smoking, but started again when she got insecure. I think how Doona feels can be seen through her smoking.”

“As for her clothing, they are short, thin, and uncomfortable in general,” she continued. “This is another tool through which Doona’s unstable emotions are expressed. I thought that it hints at how lonely and cold she felt.”

It is considered one of the most successful Korean content offerings on the platform in 2023, further solidifying Suzy’s reputation as a versatile and accomplished actress. Suzy Explains Doona’s Hime Hairstyle in Netflix Series

There is little doubt that Lee Doona was truly brought to life in “Doona!” and this was made possible by the talented Bae Suzy. However, there were some details from the webtoon that didn’t appear in the Netflix series. For instance, the live-action Doona sports a pretty hime hairstyle in the show. Interestingly, Suzy revealed the reason why her character looks slightly different from the MIN SONGA manhwa.

Suzy Explains Doona’s Hime Hairstyle

Suzy recently took part in Netflix’s “Lookbook” series where she discussed the different styles she wore as Lee Doona in the show. She confirmed that her character was not simply confined to one definitive look.

“Considering Doona’s situation, changing her style tailored to it is one of the points to watch for,” Suzy said.

She then discussed the hime hairstyle, or princess cut, which is very different from the character’s original look in the webtoon. Interestingly, the “Vagabond” star admitted that it was her idea to change Doona’s hairstyle for the Netflix series.

“In the webtoon, Doona doesn’t have a hime cut, but a full-bang and wavy hair,” Suzy said. “That’s a style I used to do often though, and since Doona is not a person with a general personality, I wanted to try a hair that’s a little unusual.”

“That’s why I challenged myself, and I decided to make the final decision because it fits well with Doona’s image,” she continued.

It’s great to know that Suzy was fully involved in the development of the character and made sure Lee Doona would be unique in her own right. With that in mind, it makes for a better understanding of the character in the series.

“Doona!” is a romantic drama series based on a beloved webtoon with the same title. The story centers around the experiences of Lee Doona, a former idol as she encounters Lee Wonjun, a regular college student, in a shared living arrangement. The series is now streaming on Netflix.

Bae Suzy has taken on a lot of memorable roles but her new character in “Doona!” is the one that hits closest to home. Not surprisingly, the former Miss A member admitted that she has an emotional connection to Lee Doona in the upcoming Netflix series.

Bae Suzy Admits Emotional Connection With Lee Doona

In a new interview with Cosmopolitan Korea, Suzy discussed her new drama series “Doona!” which is set to premiere on Netflix later in October. Interestingly, the “Anna” actress pointed out her similarities with the character Lee Doona, admitting that she felt an emotional connection to the role.

“Our experiences differed, yet, I felt a deep understanding of Doona’s journey, which in many ways reignited memories of my early idol days,” Suzy said.

“In my early twenties, I didn’t have the chance to truly understand or express my pain like Doona,” she continued. “My emotions were bottled up, unlike Doona, who allows herself to experience her emotions fully, even when they’re painful. “I think I would have lived quite well, enjoying life perhaps more than most,” she said.

Bae Suzy’s Malicious Troll Gets Fined by Court

A man who posted libelous comments against idol-actress Bae Suzy in 2015 has been found guilty in a legal battle that lasted for almost eight years.

According to reports from Korean entertainment outlets Soompi and The Korea Herald, the malicious commenter (hereafter referred to as “A”) was a man in his 40s.

The Korea Herald reported that A left a comment about Suzy online on October 29, 2015 that read: “A bubble created by media manipulation, just a national hotel girl.”

Soompi added that A also left other defamatory statements about the idol-actress in the comment section of articles regarding Suzy from October to December 2015.

Who is being sued?

A was then sued by Suzy’s camp and went on trial on the charges of insult, with the prosecution reportedly demanding a monetary penalty on the malicious commenter.

A pleaded not guilty and requested for a former trial, to which he was sentenced to a fine of 1 million won. However, a higher court overturned the ruling in the first trial.

According to The Korea Herald, the judge in the appeal ruled that comments about celebrities should be judged differently on whether they’re worthy of punishment as celebrities are public figures. With the reversal, the court lowered A’s sentence to a fine of 500 thousand won instead.

Although A appealed again, the Supreme Court dismissed his appeal and upheld the verdict that the man is guilty of insulting Suzy.

“The expression ‘national hotel girl’ implies the opposite image of what Bae had established during her career, and it denounces her by sexually objectifying her,” the Supreme Court was quoted as saying.

As of writing, Suzy’s camp has yet to address the ruling.

Bae Suzy made her debut as a member of girl group Miss A under JYP Entertainment in July 2010. The “Bad Girl Good Girl” hitmakers officially disbanded in December 2017.

Suzy also garnered worldwide popularity as an actress. She starred in series Start-Up, Vagabond, Uncontrollably Fond, Dream High, and Anna

Her upcoming works include the film Wonderland and series All Your Wishes Come True.
