MONSTA X’s Shownu Makes Runway Debut at New York Fashion Week

Make way for model Shownu! Last February 14, Shownu of the K-pop boy group Monsta X left fans in awe with his jaw-dropping visuals as he made his runway debut at the New York Fashion Week.

In one of his looks, the K-pop idol flaunted his toned body in a black cropped jacket. Notably, the stint proved that his versatility as a performer goes beyond his singing and dancing abilities.

To note, Shownu, whose real name is Son Hyun-Woo, made an appearance as an ambassador and a model for the Concept Korea 2024 F/W. For those unaware, Concept Korea is a platform given to Korean fashion designers to showcase their works internationally, and this time, in the prestigious fashion event.

Another testament to his global influence, Shownu also appeared in Concept Korea’s global campaign video which was broadcasted in the ever popular Times Square.

During the stint, the Monsta X leader expressed his gratitude with the rare opportunity. According to South Korean reports, he shared that it was fun to have experienced a new field he had never tried before. “It was a very meaningful time to participate as an ambassador representing Korean fashion,” he added.

Fans proud of model Shownu

After seeing Shownu excel in another field apart from being an idol, fans, especially Monsta X’s fanbase, Monbebes, can’t help but be proud of the singer.

On social media, Monbebes showered the artist with positive comments as they trended the hashtag #Shownu_NY_FashionWeek. “You did an amazing job on the runway. You are an icon and a legend,” one fan wrote.

Moreover, other fans also complimented him as he showed an amazing performance as a model. “That’s how you make your NYFW runway debut,” one said. Meanwhile another called him the main event of the show.

Another fan took the time to appreciate the idol’s progress over the years as he went from being an invited guest who watched on the sidelines in 2016 to becoming an ambassador who walked the runway in 2024.

In other news, Shownu is also set to make his musical theater debut in the upcoming production The Great Comet which will begin its run in the last week of March.

Shownu Hypes Up MONSTA X Subunit With Hyungwon

Shownu is getting ready for his first major project since his military discharge. The MONSTA X leader is hyping up the group’s first subunit with fellow member Hyungwon. In addition to that, Son Hyunwoo shared his thoughts on seeing his fellow members doing promotions during his military service.

Shownu Shares Details On First MONSTA X Subunit With Hyungwon

Vogue Korea recently unveiled photos from Shownu’s latest photoshoot for the magazine. In the accompanying interview, the MONSTA X main dancer discussed the plans for the group’s first subunit. Shownu revealed that Hyungwon has already written songs for the new group unit.

They’re all good. When I ask for song recommendations, he sends them through KakaoTalk and he mainly listens to songs he could’ve written. Good and modern music,” he said.

He also confirmed that he and Hyungwon have a great bond that will make their new subunit work well.

“What’s great about when I’m with Hyungwon is that I’m comfortable. The reason we hang out often is just because it’s comfortable,” Shownu said. “We don’t speak much and don’t bother each other.”

Good synergy can be created when you’re uncomfortable, but since we have a comfortable relationship I’m not sure what kind of chemistry will come out,” he said.

“We’re both not the greedy type and have similar body types. I have a desire to showcase good performances and visuals but nothing’s been decided yet,” Shownu added.

Shownu Opens Up About Watching MONSTA X Perform Without Him

The still-unnamed subunit will be Shownu’s first major project since his return from military service. However, he admitted that he also enjoyed seeing the other MONSTA X members’ promotions while he was serving the country.

I was curious about their performance and my members’ conditions but it was all incredibly cool,” Shownu said. “Since I know that the first week [of promotions] is the hardest, I watched while assuming they were exhausted but also thinking ‘this is interesting!‘”

He then added that being able to watch his fellow members from afar was refreshing.

“I did slightly miss the anticipation of preparing an album from the perspective of a singer but it was fun watching from the perspective of a fan,” he said.

The first MONSTA X subunit with Shownu and Hyungwon is expected to debut in the Summer of 2023.

MONSTA X have reunited, at least, for a brief time. Leader Shownu caught up with his other members ahead of his military discharge. All six members of the boy group got together for an awesome send-off for Minhyuk, who has enlisted for military service.

Minhyuk previously announced that he would enlist for military service on April 4, 2023. The MONSTA X singer soon enlisted fellow member Kihyun to help him cut his hair before his enlistment. On the day of his enlistment, Lee Minhyuk had a special treat for MONBEBEs.

Shownu Reunites With MONSTA X For Minhyuk’s Military Service Send-Off

The official MONSTA X Twitter account shared two photos of all six members of the group reunited for the send-off. The images confirm that Shownu took time from his own military service to join his fellow members.

Shownu is the first MONSTA X member to enlist in military service. He enlisted in July 2021, serving as a public service worker due to previous surgery for left eye retinal detachment. In contrast, Minhyuk will serve as an active-duty soldier after undergoing basic military training.

Although Minhyuk will be away for almost two years, he had several promotions before his military enlistment. He is currently the brand ambassador for NFL Korea 2023 Summer Collection. Lee Minhyuk also filmed new content for “Mon Must Go On,” a special series on the group’s official YouTube channel. The new episodes feature fellow members Joohoney and I.M.

In related news, fellow MONSTA X member Kihyun has joined the fixed panel of JTBC’s “Han Moon-chul’s Black Box Review” or “Hanvely.”

“It’s a new feeling to join Hanvely, which I’ve enjoyed,” Kihyun said of his latest project. “I’ll learn a lot and be careful through broadcasting so that I can make Korea safer.”
