NewJeans Enters Melon TOP 100 Chart With ‘How Sweet’ and ‘Bubble Gum’

NewJeans are proving that they have what it takes to be a successful group despite several challenges. The girl group has swiftly climbed the Melon TOP 100 chart with their latest releases “How Sweet” and “Bubble Gum.”

NewJeans’ Latest Singles Enter Melon TOP 100 Chart

On May 24, NewJeans’ new tracks, “How Sweet” and “Bubble Gum,” made a significant impact by entering the Melon Top 100 chart at positions 7 and 14, respectively. The impressive debut underscores the group’s growing popularity and strong fanbase, even amidst internal industry controversies.

The success of these tracks is particularly noteworthy given the ongoing feud between NewJeans’ label, ADOR, and its parent company, HYBE. This public conflict has created a tumultuous backdrop for the group’s activities, casting a shadow over their recent releases. Despite these challenges, NewJeans have managed to capture the public’s attention and maintain their rising trajectory in the K-pop scene.

NewJeans, a relatively new player in the K-pop industry, has quickly cemented their place since their debut. However, the current situation has been less than ideal for releasing new music, as public opinion about the group and their CEO, Min Hee Jin, has been volatile in recent weeks. The tension between ADOR and HYBE, coupled with the timing of the release, which coincided with BTS RM’s solo album “Right Place, Wrong Person,” added another layer of complexity. The overlap initially sparked controversy, although it was later debunked. Nonetheless, fans have expressed concern about the future of NewJeans amid these turbulent circumstances.

NewJeans Marches On

Despite these hurdles, the double singles “How Sweet” and “Bubble Gum” have demonstrated NewJeans’ undeniable appeal and resilience. The release of “How Sweet” garnered over 37,000 unique listeners on Melon within just an hour, setting a record for the highest number of unique listeners in 2024 on the platform. This achievement highlights the group’s ability to captivate audiences and sustain their popularity even in challenging times.

The success of NewJeans’ latest tracks serves as a testament to their growing influence in the K-pop industry. It also reflects the unwavering support from their fans, who have stood by them through the ups and downs. As NewJeans continues to navigate the complexities of the music industry, their ability to consistently deliver hit songs and engage listeners remains a significant indicator of their potential to achieve even greater heights in the future.

Mexican Girl Group JNS (Jeans) Show Support for NewJeans Amidst Plagiarism Allegations

Members of the Mexican girl group JNS, formerly known as Jeans, have once again voiced their support for the South Korean girl group NewJeans amidst ongoing plagiarism allegations.

JNS React to NewJeans

In a recent TikTok video, the JNS members expressed their admiration for NewJeans and addressed the controversy surrounding the accusations of concept copying.

@grupojns

In the video, JNS members took a positive stance, downplaying the plagiarism claims and instead focusing on the admiration they have for NewJeans. They highlighted the cyclical nature of fashion and music trends, noting that it’s common for new generations to draw inspiration from past eras. The members emphasized that they see this not as an act of copying, but as a homage and a way to keep the legacy of 90s pop culture alive.

“How incredible to cross borders and have the 90’s come back with such a beautiful concept! Lots of love! To NewJeans, congratulations. It’s spectacular that they’ve taken the 90’s concept as a reference and so what an honour. Call us and it would be great to collaborate!” – JNS

Towards the end of the video, JNS interacted with a Korean fan who had brought the controversy to their attention. The fan expressed concerns about the negative impact the plagiarism allegations could have on NewJeans’ reputation. In response, the JNS members reiterated their support for the South Korean group and encouraged their fans to view the similarities as a form of cultural appreciation rather than appropriation.

Did NewJeans Copy a Mexican Girl Group?

The controversy first arose when fans and media outlets pointed out similarities between NewJeans’ outfits, hairstyles, and overall concepts and those of Jeans from the 1990s. Critics alleged that NewJeans had borrowed heavily from the iconic looks and themes that Jeans popularized during their peak.

This stance from JNS members helps to mitigate the tension surrounding the plagiarism allegations and promotes a narrative of cross-cultural respect and admiration. Their support for NewJeans not only helps to defuse the controversy but also sets an example of how artists can positively influence discussions around intellectual property and inspiration in the entertainment industry. As both groups continue to make their mark, this mutual respect can pave the way for more harmonious interactions between fans and artists globally.

Min Hee Jin Allegedly Exploited Parents of NewJeans Members

Recent reports have brought to light troubling evidence regarding Min Hee Jin, the CEO of ADOR, and her alleged attempts to exploit the parents of NewJeans members, even prior to the commencement of HYBE‘s audit.

Did The ADOR CEO Exploit Parents of NewJeans Members?

On May 21 KST, it was revealed that Min Hee Jin had engaged in a conversation with the head of the ADOR unit just one day before the parents of NewJeans members sent a formal complaint letter on March 30 KST.

During this conversation, Min Hee Jin reportedly discussed the potential to leverage the parents of the NewJeans members strategically, as long as it did not infringe upon the shareholder agreement. She was quoted saying, “Is this written from the moms’ perspectives? We should consider the tone of delivery,” and suggesting, “We can actively exploit the fact that moms did not sign contracts with HYBE. Are there any clauses worth objecting to?” This indicates a calculated approach to utilizing the parents’ dissatisfaction for her own advantage.

Further evidence emerged from April 20, just two days before HYBE began its audit of ADOR. Plans were reportedly made to launch an attack on HYBE, using the parents’ grievances as a front. It was suggested, “The moms will be the ones filing complaints with the Fair Trade Commission. It wouldn’t look right for the subsidiary to file a complaint. It’s better if the moms criticize. The fact that moms filed a complaint alone will prove innocence. If the subsidiary company complains, there can be accusations of harming the company.”

During the hearing for the injunction against the exercise of voting rights filed by Min Hee Jin against HYBE on May 17 KST, HYBE presented their case. They argued, “CEO Min Hee Jin instructed that if she or ADOR raised issues, it would constitute a violation of the shareholder agreement, so the parents of NewJeans members must express their dissatisfaction first. She only used NewJeans and their parents for her own goals.”

Min Hee Jin Shoots Back At Latest Allegations

Min Hee Jin’s side, however, refuted these claims. They stated, “It is not true that the NewJeans parents followed CEO Min’s instructions. They were urged to express their anger at HYBE’s wrongdoing and voluntarily wrote the letter of complaint to ADOR.” The defense suggests that the parents’ actions were a genuine expression of their concerns rather than orchestrated moves by Min Hee Jin.

The unfolding controversy highlights the complex dynamics within corporate governance and the potential manipulation of stakeholders for strategic gain. It raises significant ethical questions about the extent to which executives can influence and utilize the grievances of third parties to serve their objectives. As the legal and corporate tussle continues, the impact on NewJeans and their families remains a critical concern, alongside the broader implications for corporate conduct within the entertainment industry.

NewJeans Voice Their Support for ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin

NewJeans may have chosen a side. All five members of the group have reportedly voice their support for ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin during her first trial against HYBE Labels.

NewJeans Voice Their Support for Min Hee Jin

On May 18, 2024, Yonhap News reported that the five members of NewJeans allegedly submitted a petition to the court the day before, during the first trial between HYBE and ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin. The court trial was initiated due to HYBE’s request for a provisional injunction against Min Hee Jin, specifically targeting her voting rights regarding the management of ADOR. This petition marks the first official action taken by the NewJeans members in this ongoing legal conflict. Until this point, they had not publicly addressed the issue nor provided any personal statements.

The specifics of the petition remain undisclosed. However, the strong bond between the NewJeans members and their CEO, Min Hee Jin, has been evident since their debut. On May 17, 2024, during the court session, Min Hee Jin’s legal representative stated, “NewJeans want to be with Min Hee Jin,” indicating the members’ preference to continue their professional relationship with her.

Min Hee Jin Vs HYBE

The hearing for Min Hee Jin’s injunction against HYBE occurred at Seoul’s Central District Court on May 17. The injunction was filed by Min Hee Jin to prevent HYBE from terminating her position. During the hearing, Min Hee Jin’s legal team accused HYBE of attempting to sabotage, threaten, and mistreat the members of NewJeans. Additionally, they revealed that HYBE had plans to place NewJeans on an 18-month hiatus, a move that reportedly frightened the members.

The situation has garnered significant attention due to the high stakes involved. NewJeans is one of the most promising new acts under ADOR, which itself operates as a subsidiary of HYBE. Min Hee Jin, renowned for her creative direction and successful management, has played a pivotal role in shaping the group’s identity and success. Her potential ousting by HYBE has therefore raised concerns about the future of the group and the direction of ADOR.

The legal battle reflects broader tensions within the entertainment industry, where creative control and managerial decisions often clash. For NewJeans, the prospect of an 18-month hiatus could severely impact their momentum and growth in the highly competitive K-pop landscape. Their apparent support for Min Hee Jin underscores their trust in her leadership and their desire to maintain stability within their professional environment.

As the court proceedings continue, the outcome will be closely watched by fans, industry insiders, and stakeholders. The resolution of this dispute will not only affect the future of NewJeans but could also set a precedent for how similar conflicts are handled within the industry. The dedication of the NewJeans members to their CEO highlights the importance of leadership and mutual respect in achieving success and navigating challenges in the dynamic world of K-pop.

ADOR CEO Reportedly Requested Authority to Terminate NewJeans’ Exclusive Contracts with HYBE

The Korean entertainment industry, known for its intricacies and power dynamics, recently witnessed a significant development surrounding CEO Min Hee Jin of ADOR and her request for authority over the termination of NewJeans’ exclusive contracts.

Did Min Hee Jin Try to Override HYBE in Terminating NewJeans’ Exclusive Contracts?

The request sheds light on the complexities of contract negotiations and power struggles within entertainment conglomerates.

Min Hee Jin‘s request to amend her shareholder’s contract with HYBE Labels, ADOR’s parent company, emerged against the backdrop of negotiations from the previous year, notably concerning put back options and the issuance of new shares. These negotiations, which took place in February, laid the groundwork for Min Hee Jin’s subsequent bid for unilateral authority over contract terminations.

Traditionally, decisions regarding the exclusive contracts of major artists are subject to shareholders’ meetings, ensuring transparency and collective decision-making. However, Min Hee Jin’s purported request seeks to circumvent this process, granting her sole discretion over terminating NewJeans members’ contracts without consultation with the board or interference from HYBE.

Min Hee Jin’s Ongoing Battle

The move has raised eyebrows within the industry, as it diverges from established norms and potentially undermines corporate governance principles. With Min Hee Jin, Vice President Shin, and board member Kim constituting ADOR’s current shareholder’s board, HYBE’s substantial ownership stake affords it significant influence over board dynamics and decision-making processes.

HYBE’s rejection of Min Hee Jin’s proposal underscores the tension brewing between the ADOR CEO and the conglomerate. Suspicions of Min Hee Jin’s alleged intentions to orchestrate an “exit” strategy without HYBE’s involvement further exacerbate the rift, prompting the conglomerate to assert its control and safeguard its interests.

The unfolding saga underscores the intricate power dynamics at play in the Korean entertainment industry, where corporate maneuvers and contractual negotiations often intersect with creative endeavors. As the industry continues to evolve, stakeholders grapple with balancing artistic autonomy with corporate oversight, navigating a landscape shaped by ambition, competition, and strategic maneuvering.

HYBE Responds to NewJeans Neglect Accusations

Min Hee Jin’s neglect accusations against HYBE, particularly regarding the alleged neglect of NewJeans in favor of LE SSERAFIM, have ignited a firestorm of controversy within the K-Pop community. Fans, deeply invested in the success of NewJeans, have raised valid concerns about the group’s visibility and promotion under the HYBE umbrella. Now, HYBE has issued a statement regarding the issue.

HYBE Issues Statement Addressing NewJeans Neglect Accusations

In response to mounting criticism, HYBE issued an official statement on April 26, 2024, refuting allegations of neglect towards NewJeans. However, fans remain skeptical, especially in light of Min Hee Jin’s claims that she was barred from promoting the group prior to their official debut. This revelation only adds fuel to the controversy surrounding NewJeans’ management and promotion within HYBE.

“The two teams debuted one after another and did not have enough time to sufficiently promote each other, so we decided to set a promotion period for at least a certain period of time,” the statement read. “The request was made to protect all of the team’s news value, and even this period was shortened in the middle to start promoting NewJeans,” it continues.

One glaring issue fans point out is the stark absence of NewJeans’ content on official HYBE platforms. While other groups enjoy exposure on the HYBE Labels YouTube channel, NewJeans’ promotional material remains confined to their own channel. This discrepancy in visibility raises questions about HYBE’s commitment to promoting the group effectively.

Furthermore, fans note the conspicuous absence of Bang Si Hyuk, the visionary founder of HYBE, in NewJeans’ promotional activities. Unlike his visible support for other HYBE artists, Bang Si Hyuk’s apparent disengagement from NewJeans’ debut has not gone unnoticed by fans, fueling speculation about the group’s treatment within the company.

As tensions escalate between fans, industry insiders, and the entertainment giant, the fate of NewJeans hangs in the balance. Whether HYBE can address concerns and reaffirm its commitment to the group’s success remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the K-Pop community is watching closely, demanding transparency and accountability from one of the industry’s most influential players.

ADOR Responds to HYBE’s Management Audit on CEO Min Hee Jin

HYBE’s decision to initiate a management audit of its subsidiary label ADOR has sent ripples through the K-pop industry, raising questions about the dynamics between the two entities and the future of their partnership. Since then, ADOR has addressed the label’s plans.

HYBE Initiates Management Audit on ADOR

Despite HYBE holding a controlling 80 percent stake in ADOR, recent developments have highlighted tensions between the label and its parent company. Reports surfaced on April 22 indicating that HYBE had detected efforts by ADOR to assert its independence, prompting concerns within the conglomerate. In response, HYBE took swift action, calling for a shareholders’ meeting to address the situation and hold the ADOR management accountable for their actions.

Founded in 2021 by industry veteran Min Hee Jin, ADOR quickly became synonymous with innovation and creativity, serving as the home for rising stars like NewJeans.

Central to HYBE’s concerns was the composition of ADOR’s leadership, with both current directors having joined the company alongside Min Hee Jin from SM Entertainment. In an effort to exert greater influence and oversight, HYBE sought to appoint an additional director from its own ranks, signaling a shift in power dynamics within the label.

Furthermore, reports circulated that HYBE had issued a document calling for Min Hee Jin’s resignation as CEO of ADOR, further complicating the situation and raising speculation about the future leadership of the label.

ADOR Responds to HYBE’s Plans

In response to these developments, ADOR issued a statement addressing the reports and affirming its commitment to transparency and cooperation with HYBE during the audit process.

“It appears that HYBE and BELIFT LAB along with Chairman Bang Si Hyuk think that simply driving CEO Min Hee Jin out of the company will end this issue without providing proper apologies or measures. However, ADOR will use all possible means and methods to protect the cultural achievements that NewJeans has worked for and to prevent further infringement due to copying. We want to make it clear that we cannot tolerate copying and various unfair actions continuing against ADOR and NewJeans,” it read.

The outcome of this audit and the subsequent actions taken by both parties will undoubtedly shape the future trajectory of ADOR and its relationship with HYBE, underscoring the complexities of navigating the competitive landscape of the K-pop industry.

NewJeans’ Hyein Halts Activities Due to Foot Injury

Earlier today, NewJeans’ agency ADOR made an announcement regarding member Hyein. “She has sustained an injury during practice and will be suspending her activities for the time being,” ADOR said in a statement. This news comes as a disappointment to fans eagerly awaiting the girl group’s next comeback.

According to the agency, Hyein was taken to a hospital after complaining of pain in the top of her foot during a training session. The 15-year-old idol was eventually diagnosed with a microfracture, a very small break or crack in the bone. Microfractures don’t break the bone completely but do make moving difficult and painful. This kind of injury is often caused by overuse, repetitive stress, or a sudden impact. Given the intense dancing idols like her do in practice rooms and onstage, it isn’t surprising that Hyein was injured.

A microfracture may be small, but it shouldn’t be taken lightly. Such injuries can cause sharp pain or swelling. The recovery time from a microfracture can vary but is usually between 6 to 12 weeks. The key to healing is to keep the injured joint as relaxed as possible. During this period, the patient must avoid putting weight or stress on the injured foot. That’s why Hyein is suspending her activities, as she can’t engage in anything that involves complex choreography or extensive standing and moving.

How will this affect NewJeans’ comeback?

Hyein sustained this injury while preparing for NewJeans’ highly anticipated comeback on May 24. Despite this setback, NewJeans plans to continue with their activities. The five-member girl group will release a double single featuring the title track “How Sweet” and the B-side “Bubble Gum.” NewJeans and the Japanese company Kao recently released a commercial featuring the latter, which you can check out below.
