TXT Fans React to Francine Diaz’s Mistake at ASEAN Prize 2024

At the ASEAN Prize 2024 event in Japan, Francine Diaz accidentally mispronounced the name of the K-pop group TOMORROW X TOGETHER, aka TXT. Instead of saying “Tomorrow by Together,” the Filipina actress said “Tomorrow times Together.” The mistake occurred when Francine announced the winner of the ASEAN GLOBAL KPOP LEADERS award. Despite the mix-up, the TXT members were visibly thrilled when they realized they had won.

When a clip of the moment went viral on the internet, Francine’s family, fans, and friends were worried that the actress would be harshly criticized for her mistake. But fans of TXT, affectionately known as MOAs (Moments of Alwaysness), reacted in a way no one saw coming.

@czeryy_cam

she’s so cute with that “tomorrow times together” 😅😊 #francinediaz #francine #lia #itzy #txt #tomorrow_x_together #foryou

An honest mistake

Instead of getting upset, MOAs worldwide rallied around the actress. They found Francine adorable and recognized it was an honest mistake. Some even loved the way she pronounced “TOMORROW X TOGETHER” because she took the name literally. After all, the “x” symbol is most commonly used to denote multiplication in math. For instance, in equations or mathematical expressions, “x” often means “times,” as in “3 x 4,” which is read as “three times four.”

Francine took to Instagram after the event to address the incident. During a live broadcast, she issued a heartfelt apology for the slip-up. “I’m very sorry for that very big mistake. Please excuse me because I am not that updated anymore with what is happening in the K-pop world,” she explained, adding humorously, “You know I only stan two groups. But now, I know better because I’ve been educated: Tomorrow By Together.”

The actress also told fans what went down when she met up with TXT backstage. “In fairness, they were very kind when I went down the stairs with them; they let me walk first. They even offered me a seat. They are very kind,” Francine recounted.

MOAs lifted Francine up

She ended her broadcast by thanking TXT’s fans for their understanding and light-hearted take on the situation, which could have easily turned into a nightmare. “But thank you because you took it in a positive way. Thank you for not making it a big deal,” she said.

With their reaction to Francine’s gaffe, MOAs worldwide proved they have a lot in common with Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai: They’re as kind and funny as the group they stan. Instead of bashing Francine, they lifted her up and showed that compassion trumps destructive criticism every time. – K-Pop News Writer

TXT Tops Charts, Wins Music Shows With New EP ‘minisode 3: TOMORROW’

K-pop powerhouse TOMORROW X TOGETHER, aka TXT, has once again captured the hearts (and ears) of fans worldwide with the release of their latest mini album, minisode 3: TOMORROW. The album’s title track, “Deja Vu,” accompanied by a visually striking music video, has quickly garnered attention. Within just 15 minutes of its release on YouTube, the video amassed over 115,000 views, underscoring the quintet’s immense popularity.

The mini album includes tracks such as “Miracle,” “I’ll See You Tomorrow,” and “- — — — .-. .-. — .– (TOMORROW),” along with a remix of “Deja Vu.” It also features unit songs “The Killa” by Yeonjun and Soobin, and “Quarter Life” by Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai.

TXT (투모로우바이투게더) ‘Deja Vu’ Official MV

International appeal

Upon its release, minisode 3: TOMORROW debuted at number one on the Circle Album Chart (formerly Gaon Chart), with 1,542,718 copies sold in its first week. This achievement marks TXT’s ninth No. 1 album on the Circle Album Chart, bringing their total sales across all albums to 14.6 million units on this chart. The impact of TXT’s latest project extends beyond the South Korean music scene. minisode 3: TOMORROW is expected to debut at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in the US with sales of over 105,000 units in its first week.

As further proof of their international appeal, TXT recently appeared on NBC’s The Kelly Clarkson Show for the second time. Host Kelly Clarkson introduced them as “one of the most famous K-pop groups on the planet.” She also highlighted their performances at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards and the music festival Lollapalooza.

Their performance of “Deja Vu” on the show began with a scene where a coin marked “2019”—the year of the group’s debut—was displayed. It featured sand slipping through fingers and props meant to evoke a sense of nostalgia. TXT combined all that with their dynamic choreography and facial expressions to convey the mood of the song. The highlight of the performance was a dazzling dance break featuring all five members.

Congratulations, TXT

Back in South Korea, “Deja Vu” has also seen remarkable success on the music show circuit. It clinched the first-place trophy on the April 10 episode of Show Champion. It beat strong contenders like BABYMONSTER’s “SHEESH” and DAY6’s “Welcome to the Show.” TXT went on to pick up two more wins on M! Countdown and Music Bank, where “Deja Vu” outperformed tracks from ILLIT and other artists. It secured a total of 6,402 points on M! Countdown and 10,327 points on Music Bank.

TOZ From ‘Boys Planet’ to Make Korean Debut in Early May

The Mnet survival show Boys Planet has already given us many successful K-pop groups. There’s EVNNE, ONEPACT, and of course, the winning nine-member team of ZEROBASEONE. But it seems the show isn’t done being the gift that keeps on giving. Another group—the four-member Japanese act TOZ—is set to make their official Korean debut. Their EP, TO my new friends, will be released on May 2.

TO my new friends is TOZ’s second EP, following their debut EP Flare, which included five Japanese tracks and was released simultaneously in Japan and Korea last September. The upcoming EP, featuring all Korean lyrics, aims to cement TOZ’s presence in the Korean music industry. A promotional poster featuring a light blue teddy bear and the EP’s release date was shared on the band’s social media pages, sparking excitement among fans.

Meet the members of TOZ

All four members of TOZ were popular contestants on Boys Planet, but they didn’t make the ZEROBASEONE lineup. Anthonny, the group’s leader and main vocalist of Filipino-Japanese descent, trained under WAKEONE for a while before joining Boys Planet. He also participated in Produce 101 Japan Season 2. When he’s not onstage, he enjoys drawing, playing badminton, and watching movies. His role model is AB6IX’s Lee Dae Hwi.

Haruto has a rich multicultural background. He lived in the US—specifically in New Jersey—which is how he became fluent in English. He can also speak Japanese and Korean, and is currently trying to learn Chinese. Not only is he multilingual, but he’s also adept at various styles of dance including ballet, breakdancing, and tap dancing. His smooth moves made him popular on Boys Planet and an integral part of TOZ.

Like Haruto, Yuto is fluent in English, Japanese, and Korean. His admiration for BTS influenced him to become an idol. His favorite BTS song is “Spring Day.” When he’s not dancing, he can be found eating ice cream (he says his specialty is “eating food quickly”) or watching animated movies.

The youngest member, Takuto, is known for his love of nature. When he has spare time, he enjoys going on bike rides to soak up some fresh air. For his Boys Planet audition, he dressed up as a boxer, charming both the judging panel and his fellow contestants. He can do backflips and round-offs, which make him a compelling presence onstage. His favorite song is “Cheers” by the SEVENTEEN leaders.

A wide variety of content

According to their agency YY Entertainment, TOZ will hold live concerts, perform on music shows, and work on a wide variety of content to connect with the Korean audience. All four boys are determined to make their mark in the highly competitive K-pop scene, like many of their fellow Boys Planet alums have done. – K-Pop News Writer

S.Coups Appears on the Cover of DAZED Korea’s Latest Issue

This month, the fashion and culture magazine DAZED Korea released a cover story featuring the leader of SEVENTEEN, S.Coups. With his distinctive, deep-set eyes and manly physique, S.Coups made hearts flutter on the set of the photoshoot. He cut a dashing figure in clothes by Fendi, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Versace, and more.

The photoshoot was organized by a team of skilled professionals. This team was led by DAZED Korea editor Keem Hyobeen. Also on board were art director Song Yuli, photographer Jang Dukhwa, stylist Choi Younghoe, and writer Kwon Sohee. S.Coups’s hair and makeup were done by Woo Eunhye and Ko Lina, respectively, both of whom are associated with Cutloose. Their collaboration resulted in a well-executed and visually appealing photoshoot.

After sustaining an ACL injury in August 2023, S.Coups went on hiatus. In the interview that accompanied the photos, he opened up about his recovery. He shared, “Yes, I’ve been diligently doing rehab, and watching all the guys’ performances. It was the first time I watched from the audience. As I watched, I thought, ‘Ah, they deserve to receive love.’ Being skilled is one thing, but they looked really happy being on stage.”

[LULU’S 101] FAST FORWARD with S.Coups

Frustrated and angry

S.Coups reflected on his role within SEVENTEEN. One of his duties involves the group’s greeting. When they have to introduce themselves, he leads the rest of the group by asking them to “Say the name.” They respond by shouting the group’s name.

According to S.Coups, his members did their best to execute the greeting properly in his absence, but they’re only human, so they naturally messed up from time to time. “They’re really bad at the greeting,” he told DAZED Korea with a chuckle. “They would keep making mistakes, so we’d talk about it and tease each other for it. That’s why I thought ‘I wish we were all together’ even more.”

While the rest of the members were working, he spent much time alone, which he found difficult. “I tried to be honest with my feelings. I was frustrated and angry with myself many times because I went from someone who uses their body to someone who can’t. Rehab felt more like overcoming myself rather than like exercise. I was worried. I had concerns like, ‘Even if I consistently do rehab, will I be able to use my body like before?’ Since I got hurt, I unconsciously became more scared and cautious when I moved.” Thinking of his members and the fans gave him the strength to go on.

[NINE HEART PICKS] S.COUPS

S.Coups is still taking it easy

The interview also delved into S.Coups’s leadership style and how it has evolved over the years. He credits fellow SEVENTEEN member Jeonghan with helping him become a better leader.

“Up until 2020, I was kind of a scary hyung,” S.Coups admits. “At one point, there were a lot of rules, and I gave a lot of feedback as the hyung. I did that wanting the members to love each other the most when it came to this job. But then we ended up not really being happy on stage. SEVENTEEN’s charm won’t show when things are awkward, too disciplined, and uptight. That’s why I felt like I was doing something wrong. At the time, Jeonghan really helped me. He has always had a casual, friend-like relationship with the members, so he gave me lots of advice and even conveyed to the members how I really felt. From that point on, I let go of a lot of things.”

S.Coups’s condition has since improved to the point that he has been able to return to work, although he’s still taking it easy. SEVENTEEN is gearing up for a comeback and more concerts. In the meantime, CARATs can see more of S.Coups in DAZED Korea’s print edition and on their website. – K-Pop News Writer

Samuel Kim Sets First Comeback After Almost Six Years

Singer Samuel Kim is set to make a comeback after years of radio silence.

He rose to fame in 2017 as a contestant on the second season of Mnet’s survival show Produce 101, representing Brave Entertainment. Despite being a strong contender and placing second in the first round of eliminations, he did not make the final lineup for WANNA ONE, finishing 18th overall instead. This outcome came as a shock to those who believed Samuel could be a leading member of the group.

Full Video of Samuel’s Journey in PRODUCE 101 Season 2

Before Produce 101, Samuel was a trainee at PLEDIS Entertainment, where he was part of the pre-debut group that would eventually become SEVENTEEN. However, he left the agency before SEVENTEEN’s debut, citing personal reasons. In 2015, Samuel debuted in the hip-hop duo 1Punch with rapper One. They debuted in January of that year with the song “Turn Me Back.” The duo disbanded eight months later when YG Entertainment scouted One

Samuel continued to release music as Punch, collaborating with Silentó on the single “Spotlight” in 2016. Their collaboration won them the Global Collaboration Award at the 26th Seoul Music Awards in 2017. Later, Samuel toured the US with Silentó.

Fans can’t wait to see Samuel return

After appearing on Produce 101, he embarked on a solo career in 2017 under Brave Entertainment. He released his first full-length studio album that year and followed it with multiple EPs throughout 2018. That same year, Samuel partnered with Chinese singer Zhou Zhennan to participate in the second season of Tencent’s The Collaboration. They won the competition.

Samuel’s career encountered a setback when he filed a lawsuit against Brave Entertainment over contract disputes in 2019. That was the same year he lost his father. Samuel retreated into himself for a couple of years until he won the lawsuit against his former agency in 2021. In 2022, he began to inch his way back into the public eye by hosting the Arirang Radio program Radio N’ Us.

The anticipation for Samuel’s comeback has been building, especially after he teased fans with a possible tracklist in February.

His upcoming album Now, set to be released on April 21, promises to reflect his personal growth and professional evolution. A recently released teaser video features Samuel discussing his past struggles and the maturity he’s gained over the years, adding depth to the excitement surrounding his return.

Fans are eager for this new phase in Samuel’s career and are ready to support him however they can as a way to celebrate his resilience and determination to make a mark in K-pop. – K-Pop News Writer

His musical journey began when he placed fifth in the survival show WORLD KLASS, which led to the formation of the boy group TOO, later renamed TO1. During his time with TO1, Dong-geon served as one of the group’s vocalists. He was celebrated for his great vocal range and ability to hit high notes effortlessly. He was also considered one of the group’s visuals. Dong-geon was hailed for his excellent physique, especially his washboard abs. SM Entertainment Employee Exposes Chaos at the Company

SM Entertainment, one of the pillars of the K-pop industry, is currently facing a whirlwind of internal chaos, as revealed by its own employees on BLIND, an online community for company workers in South Korea. (To join this community, individuals must sign up using their corporate emails.) These employees have raised concerns about the company’s mismanagement, which has reportedly led to a significant wave of resignations.

An employee’s post titled “So (SM) is throwing away their employees and their artists” uncovered a series of issues, accusing the new executives of failing to effectively manage the label. One of the first topics the post tackles is the company’s KWANGYA 119 initiative. KWANGYA 119 allows fans to report issues affecting SM’s artists, such as copyright infringement, defamation, and ticket scalping. This initiative aims to address and fix issues while protecting artists from harmful or false information circulating in public domains. But the post claims it has been largely ineffective, leaving employees and artists feeling unprotected and neglected.

The post on BLIND continued to paint a grim picture of the current atmosphere at SM Entertainment. It alleged that after the departure of the company’s founder, Lee Soo Man, the new management implemented harsh policies, including threats of incentive cuts for late sales reporting. Moreover, the issue of obsessive fans harassing artists has been overlooked by the company. The employee wrote, “All of this has happened over the past few days, and now even ordinary employees are being doxxed on social media and are getting sworn at. Yet, how does this company not deal with any of this?”

HOW TO GO TO SM ENTERTAINMENT NEW BUILDING – LET’S GO TO KWANGYA!!!

SM Entertainment is staying silent

Another employee wondered whether SM’s management is oblivious or simply ignoring the chaos. Rumors suggest that between 70 to 80 employees resigned just this month, underlining the severity of the situation. Other BLIND users’ comments on this issue ranged from shock at the number of resignations to criticism of the company’s inability to handle the situation.

This turmoil isn’t just an internal matter. It also affects the public perception and operational capability of SM Entertainment. To outsiders, it may appear that the company is running smoothly. But insiders claim that it’s only a matter of time before these internal issues have a more visible impact on its operations.

As of this writing, SM Entertainment hasn’t commented on its employees’ posts on BLIND. No one knows how management reacted to the points that were raised in the posts. What we do know is that the need for strong, transparent leadership is more critical than ever as SM Entertainment navigates through these turbulent times. – K-Pop News Writer

BTS’s Jimin May Have Finished His Second Solo Album

BTS’s Jimin may have completed his second solo album.

This revelation emerged in a behind-the-scenes video posted on YouTube by fellow BTS member SUGA. The video captured moments from his ‘D-DAY’ Tour in Seoul, where Jimin made a special appearance alongside V and Jungkook to support SUGA. Fans were thrilled to see the four of them together.

During these moments of camaraderie, a shirtless Jimin offered fans a glimpse of his back tattoo. He got the phases of the moon tattooed on his back, inspired by fan art from illustrator @ArizzoStudios on X (formerly Twitter). However, it wasn’t the tattoo that caused a frenzy among the ARMYs—it was a comment Jimin made. He casually mentioned, “I’m done with my album now,” in the video. Given that the video was filmed months after the release of his debut solo album, FACE, he was clearly referring to something new.

Other signs that Jimin has more music coming

Hints about Jimin’s new music have surfaced before. On December 28, 2023, Hollywood-based audio engineer and composer Austin Owens, known as Ayo the Producer, shared some insights. Owens, who collaborated with Jimin on the song “Closer Than This,” posted an Instagram carousel. It included a video of Jimin practicing the choreography for “Closer Than This,” Owens captioned it, “Cup is full…2024 I’m ready for you.”

Prior to this, he shared a reel featuring Jimin and some dancers grooving to “Closer Than This,” Originally posted by Jimin on BTS’s official TikTok account, Owens reposted it with the caption, “We’re FarFromFinished.” When asked by a fan what he meant, he responded, “There’s always more work to be done.” This was interpreted by ARMYs as an indirect confirmation of more music from Jimin.

These teasers have sparked speculation and excitement among fans, who are eagerly awaiting the official announcement and release of the “Like Crazy” hitmaker’s second solo album. – K-Pop News Writer
