BTS’s V Has Had a Huge Impact on Compose Coffee’s Success

Since he became its endorser, BTS’s V has played a major part in helping Compose Coffee reach new heights.

Established in Busan in 2014, Compose Coffee has rapidly expanded its presence, boasting over 2,400 locations throughout South Korea, with a significant concentration in Seoul and Busan. In May 2023, the 2023 Korea’s Most Loved Brand Awards recognized Compose Coffee as the country’s favorite coffee shop. That event was run by Forbes Korea and sponsored by South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Compose Coffee, South Korea’s leading coffee retailer, has launched a new marketing campaign featuring global star Taehyung as their brand model. Posters showcasing Taehyung are now on display across Compose Coffee’s extensive network of 2,400 franchise locations nationwide. In the Korean market, only the most prominent celebrities are chosen to represent major coffee brands. Taehyung’s appointment demonstrates his wide appeal and commercial power within the industry. #foryoupage #fyp #kpop #BTSV #bts #taehyung #V #kimtaehyung #armybts #Taehyung #composecoffee #coffee #southkorea

Positioned as the fourth-largest coffee chain in South Korea, Compose Coffee trails behind giants like Paris Baguette, Mega Coffee, and Ediya Coffee—but not for long. The brand plans to expand domestically and internationally. The South Korean coffee market is ripe for growth, and Compose Coffee is eager to seize opportunities to cement its presence. That’s where BTS’s V came in.

The day he became an endorser in December 2023 marked a pivotal moment for the brand. Posters featuring the pop icon’s handsome face quickly went up in stores nationwide, signaling the start of a fruitful collaboration. A Compose Coffee representative expressed excitement about the partnership. “We’re delighted to collaborate with a global artist who is loved worldwide regardless of gender or age. Through synergy with the 21st-century pop icon, BTS’s V, Compose Coffee anticipates even greater growth next year. This collaboration marks a significant step forward.”

V is a Composer, eVeryone is a Composer

Compose Coffee launched a successful campaign

The first advertisement video featuring V, titled “V is a composer, eVeryone is a composer,” was released on the brand’s official YouTube channel on January 15. The ad, which drew inspiration from films like The French Dispatch and Big Fish, quickly captured the attention of millions of fans worldwide. It was also revealed that the “Slow Dancing” singer contributed some ideas to the making of the video, showcasing his creative side.

The impact of V’s endorsement on Compose Coffee has been nothing short of remarkable. K-media recently reported that the brand surpassed 10 million cumulative subscribers on its app. Before V became the face of the brand, it had less than 9.3 million. By January 1, this figure surged to nearly 12 million. This surge marked an increase of 2.6 million users in just 10 days. Compose Coffee has also become more popular among the youth.

Earlier this month, Compose Coffee unveiled customized cup sleeves featuring photos of V. They propelled the brand to the No. 1 spot on Baemin, South Korea’s largest delivery service. Korean fans were able to get them, while international fans have been encouraging the brand to expand its presence globally to offer products associated with V.

In other news, V is set to join the second Army Corps in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, after finishing a three-week intensive training course with the Special Duty Team of the Capital Defense Command. Despite his enlistment, V‘s star power remains undiminished, as evidenced by the successful campaign launched by Compose Coffee. – K-Pop News Writer

ARMYs Furious at British Soccer Club for Copying BTS’s Logo

The worlds of British football and K-pop collided in a controversial, unexpected way when the Birmingham City Football Club found itself at the center of a storm brewed by the BTS ARMY.

Birmingham City FC is a professional football club based in Birmingham, England. It plays its home games at St. Andrew’s Stadium, which has been their home turf since 1906. Recently, the club announced that it had added South Korean midfielder Paik Seung-ho to its roster of players.

https://www.tiktok.com/@paikc.ho_/video/7332157587053464840?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=6908322787502065153

Seung-ho is an Asian Games gold medalist. He’s also a prominent member of the South Korean national football team who was chosen to play in 15 official international matches. His best moments on the pitch include a truly memorable performance in the 2022 FIFA Men’s World Cup. He made a goal against Brazil during the Round of 16 and won the Asian Games 10 months later.

Paik signed a two-year contract with Birmingham City FC, which makes him the first-ever South Korean to join the club. His move to the UK comes after nearly three years with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in South Korea. That said, he’s no stranger to Europe, as he grew up and started his professional football career there.

@jorezazemxs

What are your thoughts on this ? Recently, the Birmingham City FC has been accused of copying the BTS logo. The professional football club Birmingham City FC recently welcomed South Korean midfielder Paik Seung Ho to their team. The soccer player signed a two-year contract with the football club and became the first South Korean player to represent Birmingham City FC. However, a recent post on social media platform X has stirred a wave of confusion and frustration among K-pop fans, particularly those who follow BTS. The cause of the uproar? The football club used a logo in their “coming soon” post for Paik Seung Ho that copied the beloved BTS emblem and included the initials P S H. This unexpected similarity has left fans perplexed and upset, questioning the originality and intent behind the club’s choice of design.#bts_official_bighit #btsforlife #armyforever #fyp #btsloveyourself #btspavedtheway

♬ IDOL – BTS

What did the club do with the BTS logo?

The controversy erupted thanks to a post on Birmingham City FC’s social media. It was accompanied by a photo bearing a logo similar to the one BTS began using in 2017. This move, intended to celebrate Paik’s signing, was perceived as a blatant act of plagiarism. The backlash was fierce and swift, with ARMYs accusing the football club of disrespecting BTS and misappropriating their logo.

Since their debut, BTS has captivated hearts not only with their music and performances but also with a logo that has become synonymous with their identity. This logo consists of two parts: the ARMY logo and the BTS logo. When you put them together, you get a shield. Some fans believe this shield is bulletproof and that it symbolizes the way the group and their fans protect each other. When the band first started using this logo, their agency, HYBE, told Korean media that it “symbolizes the youth who don’t settle for their current reality and instead open the door and go forward to achieve growth.”

BTS (방탄소년단) LOGO ANIMATION

Clearly, the logo means a lot to both the fans and the group. So, it’s no surprise that the fans’ reactions ranged from bemusement to confusion to outrage when they saw Birmingham City FC’s post. They took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their displeasure. Many felt it was disrespectful to use BTS’s logo to represent South Korea and its people. Others wondered if HYBE would sue the club for plagiarism or if it would simply let things slide.

So far, the agency has remained silent. But that hasn’t stopped the fans from airing their sentiments. Stay tuned for updates! – K-Pop News Writer

All You Need to Know About Song Joong-ki’s ‘My Name Is Loh Ki-wan’

Netflix has unveiled the poster and teaser trailer for Song Joong-ki’s upcoming Korean film, My Name is Loh Ki-wan. Cho Hae-jin’s short novel I Met Loh Ki-wan, which won the Shin Dong-yup Prize for Literature in 2013, inspired the film. Translators brought the novel to English audiences in 2019.

The novel follows the life of Loh Ki-wan, who comes from North Hamgyong Province in North Korea and ends up in Belgium. He doesn’t know the culture or the language and has absolutely nothing to his name. His only hope of survival hinges on obtaining refugee status from the government. He eventually meets Mari, a former Korean shooter born in Belgium who feels like she has nothing to live for. Their first encounter doesn’t go very well, but they fall for each other anyway, leading to an extraordinary love story.

MyDramaList

In the short novel’s film adaptation, Song Joong-ki plays Loh Ki-wan. Its poster shows Loh Ki-wan alone in a crowd, in an unfamiliar land among strangers. It also bears the text, “I have decided to survive in this land.”

Meanwhile, the teaser trailer offers a glimpse at Loh Ki-wan’s harrowing journey to Belgium, where he endures cold and hunger. Eventually, he says, “I have managed to come this far by promising myself that I would endure and overcome whatever hell I experienced in this land.” As the teaser ends, viewers see a title card reading, “I have decided to survive in this land.”

My Name is Loh Kiwan | Official Teaser | Netflix

‘My Name is Loh Ki-wan’ has a star-studded cast

The film’s cast includes notable names like Choi Sung-eun, Jo Han-chul, Lee Sang-hee, Seo Hyeon-woo, and Kim Sung-ryun.

Choi Sung-eun, best known for her star turn in Beyond Evil and her role opposite Ji Chang-wook in The Sound of Magic, will portray Mari. The film’s impressive cast includes Cho Han-chul as Mari’s father, Yoon Sung. Lee Il-hwa, recently seen with Seo Ye-ji in Eve, will play the role of Mari’s mother, Jung Joo.

Seasoned actress Kim Sung-ryun will play Ok-hee, whose actions will be a big factor in Loh Ki-wan’s decision to move to Belgium. Lee Sang-hee is cast as Sung Joo, a Korean immigrant whom Loh Ki-wan encounters in a Belgian factory. Seo Hyeon-woo will appear as Loh Kiwan’s uncle, Eun Chul.

My Name is Loh Ki-wan is the first full-length film directed and written by Kim Hee-jin. She won multiple awards for her 2010 indie short A Brand New Journey, including the Special Jury Award at the 11th Jeonju International Film Festival.

This is Song Joong-ki’s first project of 2024, following his critically acclaimed performance in Hopeless last year. Known for his roles in Descendants of the Sun, Vincenzo, and more, Song Joong-ki continues to prove he’s a versatile actor capable of bringing depth and nuance to the characters he plays.

The film has been restricted to a mature audience. Despite this, Song Joong-ki’s fans can hardly wait for it to hit Netflix so they can see him onscreen again. – K-Pop News Writer

Woozi Keeps His Promise to Moonbin by Releasing ‘What Kind of Future’

Let it be known that Woozi of SEVENTEEN always keeps his promises. With the release of “What Kind of Future,” he kept a promise he made to the late idol Moonbin. When the ASTRO member passed away on April 19, 2023, fans and fellow artists, including Woozi, were devastated.

Needing a place to express their grief, netizens flocked to the last post on Moonbin’s Instagram and left many heartfelt comments under it. On April 25, six days after Moonbin’s passing, Woozi wrote a comment of his own in which he opened up about how much Moonbin meant to him.

“My Binnie, ha. I miss you so much. It wasn’t even more than a week ago that we said we should find the time to dance together, and you said that I was definitely your No. 1. I can still see the giant smile you had on your face as you told me that. But this world sucks, doesn’t it? Ha… I don’t even know why a cool kid like you wanted to be close to someone like me. I’m sorry I was such a shy hyung who couldn’t express things quite well. You were really such a cool dongsaeng. How nice would it have been if I had told you the same good things you told me? I’m so ashamed of myself for not having been able to express myself to you all that well. Dear Bin, you gave me so much strength. You’ve always been so supportive of my music and my dance. You always had great anticipation for my works and loved them, too. And though I always played it cool because I felt shy, you have no idea how happy you made me feel. Haha. I’m finally telling you how I actually felt, you punk.”

어떤 미래

Woozi was true to his word

He also wrote about “What Kind of Future” and how much Moonbin loved it. His words reflected affection and gratitude for Moonbin, who had always supported his musical endeavors.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had a dongsaeng who liked me as much as you did, and I doubt I’ll ever meet another like you in the future. That’s why you’re even more precious to me, and my love for you keeps growing. But now, I’m at a loss. You know the song that you kept asking about and begged me to release so you could listen to it whenever? I’ll bring it to you on your birthday. I’ll fight the company if I have to, but I promise, no matter what, I’ll put it out for you. You know, I finished all the bibimmyeon you gave me for my birthday. Haha. You should’ve given me a chance to give you a birthday gift too, you little rascal! I’m sorry there isn’t much else I could do for you as your hyung. I love you. I cherish you, and I’m grateful for you. In my heart, you’ll always and forever be the coolest dongsaeng I’ve been grateful to have. Let’s be happy now, Bin. I love you.”

True to his word, Woozi released “What Kind of Future” on Moonbin’s birthday. The song made an impressive debut at No. 14 on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart three hours after its release. On January 31, it debuted at No. 195 on the MelOn Weekly Chart with three days of tracking. By February 3, it soared all the way to No. 1 on the same chart.

200202 BUMZU STUDIO – 어떤미래

A touching tribute

“What Kind of Future” is one of Woozi‘s most personal compositions. It’s about a painful period in his life. Its meaning is open to interpretation—some see it as Woozi talking to a former lover, while others view it as him conversing with his younger self. Initially, Woozi vowed to perform it only once and never to release it. However, he ended up performing it three times—twice during SEVENTEEN’s IDEAL CUT tour in 2018, and once during BUMZU’s STUDIO concert in 2020. Woozi’s decision to drop the song on Moonbin’s birthday, January 26, was inspired by how much the latter loved it and pushed for its official release.

Woozi’s fulfillment of his promise to Moonbin is a touching tribute to their friendship. It honors the special bond they shared and keeps Moonbin’s memory alive through music. – K-Pop News Writer

Keita Overjoyed as EVNNE Wins Music Shows With Hit Single ‘UGLY’

Good karma is finally smiling down on Japanese rapper Keita. After years of hard work and perseverance, he has achieved a well-deserved milestone in his career. He made first public appearance as a contestant on YG’s Treasure Box, the survival show that formed TREASURE. However, although he showed promise, Keita was eliminated in the second to last episode, which aired on January 11, 2019.

Keita’s journey took a turn when he left YG Entertainment to join the company of soloist Rain. He debuted as a member of CIIPHER on March 15, 2021, with their first mini-album, I Like You. Despite the members’ star power and talent, the seven-member group struggled to find an audience, failing to win on music shows. Their album sales peaked at 24,264 copies.

EVNNE (이븐) ‘UGLY’ Official MV

Determined to succeed, Keita joined Mnet’s survival show Boys Planet, where he was one of the few hopefuls who had already debuted. His charisma and skill earned him the respect of his fellow trainees and the support of the public. He consistently ranked high throughout the show, until the finale where he narrowly missed his chance to debut in ZEROBASEONE, ranking 12th.

Despite facing what was effectively his third setback, Keita’s resilience never wavered. On August 3, 2023, he was announced as a member of EVNNE, a group composed of former Boys Planet contestants. They made their debut on September 19, 2023, with the track “TROUBLE.”

Keita has truly made his mark

Finally, on January 31, 2024, EVNNE achieved their first-ever music show win. Their comeback track “UGLY” triumphed over four other songs to clinch the coveted Show Champion trophy. The competition for first place included CIX’s “Lovers or Enemies,” NMIXX’s “DASH,” RIIZE’s “Love 119,” and TWS’s “plot twist,” with EVNNE ultimately taking the win.

Since then, EVNNE won their second music show trophy with “UGLY.” On February 2, EVNNE beat TWS to take first place on Music Bank. They earned a total of 6,734 points to secure their first win on a public music show.

K-Pop Trainee Beomhan Dishes on Life as an Independent Artist

Popular K-pop trainee Beomhan continues to engage with fans since leaving FM Entertainment, his long-term company, in September 2023. Despite not having officially debuted, Beomhan has built a significant fanbase. In fact, he has over 2 million followers on TikTok alone. His live broadcasts on Instagram and Twitch, where he showcases his fun, relatable personality, have further bolstered his reputation.

The termination of his contract with FM Entertainment last year surprised many, especially because it came at a time when fans were already concerned for his well-being. Beomhan had been vocal about his mental health struggles in his broadcasts. He also became the target of a hate crime, received intense backlash over his comments regarding idols’ dating lives, and was hounded by rumors of plastic surgery. Given these challenges, no one would have blamed him if he had decided to step away from the idol life.

However, in a recent TikTok update, Beomhan reassured fans that he remains a K-pop trainee. During what he described as a “K-pop tea time” session, he shared insights into his current situation and reflected on his three-year odyssey as a trainee. He highlighted his achievements, including touring the world, releasing music, and hosting fan events.

Beomhan took a bold step

Beomhan candidly discussed the realities of being a trainee, revealing that, unlike debuted idols, he received no payment for his efforts. This lack of income led him to take a bold step towards independence in the music industry.

Now an independent artist, Beomhan is self-funding his career, partly through merchandise sales. The money he saved enabled him to enroll in dance classes and hire a choreographer, videographer, and vocal coach. This investment in his talents culminated in the release of his first single, “Me, Myself, and I,” on January 31.

Although the single received mixed reviews, Beomhan’s loyal fans have rallied around the beleaguered trainee, offering encouragement and support amidst the criticism. He seems to be taking it all in stride, as he remains active on social media. – K-Pop News Writer

They left many comments on community sites, with one netizen exclaiming, “Wow, I can understand why Eunwoo said his brother is more handsome than he is.” Another netizen said, “He looks like a handsome Chinese actor. Some were surprised by the resemblance between him and Cha Eunwoo, noting, “Usually, celebrity siblings don’t look that great, but he has overturned my expectations.” Others joked, “Wow, we desperately need gene donations from this family.”

Eunwoo’s real name is Lee Dongmin, and he was born in Gunpo, Gyeonggi, South Korea on March 30, 1997. His younger brother, Lee Donghwi, is two years his junior. During a previous appearance on the JTBC variety show Knowing Brothers, Eunwoo was asked what his dongsaeng has been up to. He said, “He completed his military service. He’s working part-time.” However, this particular episode aired nearly three years ago, on April 17, 2021, so Lee Donghwi’s current status remains unknown.

Eunwoo talked about his brother

Netizens aren’t the only ones who were bowled over by Lee Donghwi’s charm. Even the ASTRO members acknowledged his good looks. Once, the late Moonbin talked about attending the same school as Eunwoo. He recalled, “When I was a high school sophomore, Eunwoo and I transferred to the same school. He was already really popular among trainees, but he was amazingly popular in school as well. It was always very easy to find him, because there were always loud screams where he was.”

Most importantly, Moonbin also shared that Eunwoo’s younger brother is as good-looking as he is. “Eunwoo has a younger brother, and he’s really good-looking as well. His face is smaller than Eunwoo’s.”

BoA Becomes Overall Producer of NCT Wish’s Upcoming Album, Single

Legendary K-pop artist BoA is the new overall producer of NCT Wish. She’ll use the wisdom she gleaned from her successful career to guide the group’s activities and growth.

@cpa.by.gods.grace

#high #passing #rate #BOA #CPA #manifesting 🙏😇

♬ original sound – CPA by God’s grace 😇 – CPA by God’s grace 😇

BoA and her groundbreaking achievements

This is BoA’s 24th year in the industry. She debuted at the tender age of 13 in 2000 and became a trailblazer in K-pop. Her groundbreaking achievements include being the first Korean artist to crack the Billboard 200, a chart that ranks the 200 most popular albums and EPs in the US.

BoA’s journey is marked by shrewd moves like SM’s localization strategy. This allowed her to crack Japan, the world’s second-largest music market. She became the first Korean act to top the Oricon charts with sales of over a million copies. BoA also made six consecutive appearances on NHK’s Kōhaku Uta Gassen, Japan’s top year-end music festival, earning her the title of “Asia’s Star.”

Her iconic status aside, BoA definitely has what it takes to be NCT Wish’s overall producer. BoA has always had a certain degree of creative control over her music. In 2012, she composed the title track of her seventh album Only One. When she released her eighth album Kiss My Lips three years later, fans were pleasantly surprised to find that she served as composer, lyricist, and producer for the 12-track collection.

Her success in Japan, Korea, and the US will prove invaluable in shaping NCT Wish. Additionally, her role in putting the group together will also be an asset. On the survival show NCT Universe: LASTART, she was a judge and training director alongside Super Junior’s Eunhyuk. Because of that, she knows the members and their skills quite well.

A dream come true for NCT Wish

Speaking of the members, Jaehee, Riku, Ryo, Sakuya, Sion, and Yushi bring a diverse array of talents to the group. Sion, born in 2002 in Korea, stands out with his excellent dancing and singing, complemented by his striking visuals. BoA herself deemed his singing “attractive” and “stable” on NCT Universe: LASTART. Meanwhile, she once declared Yushi her favorite trainee in the competition.

Finally, Ryo is a long-time fan of BoA’s, influenced by his mother and older sister. Ryo was overwhelmed when he met his idol during the show. He told her and the other judges that he felt like he was “going to pass out.” Debuting with BoA as his group’s overall producer is a dream come true for him.
