Ji Chang Wook‘s agency, Spring Company, addressed the controversy surrounding the actor’s indoor smoking incident with a formal apology. The incident occurred during the filming of his recent drama “Welcome to Samdalri,” where footage captured him using an electronic cigarette indoors.

Consequently, the “Welcome to Samdalri” production team removed the scene from the video in response to the controversy.

In their statement issued on February 11, Spring Company expressed regret over the incident and extended their sincere apologies to the public and fans of Ji Chang Wook. They also acknowledged the seriousness of the matter and emphasized that they take full responsibility for the actor’s actions.

“Actor Ji Chang Wook also recognizes that his behavior was improper, and he feels sorry for disappointing many people. Once again, we deeply apologize to those who watched the content, along with the staff on set, the rest of the cast, and the viewers who gave their love to the drama.”

Furthermore, Spring Company assured that they would take steps to ensure such incidents do not recur in the future. They also pledged to reinforce their monitoring and management protocols to uphold legal and ethical standards, both on and offset. Additionally, they promised to provide thorough guidance and education to Ji Chang Wook regarding his public conduct to prevent any similar controversies.

BTS-Inspired K-Drama ‘Begins Youth’ Stirs Excitement With Full Trailer

Several years ago, HYBE’s Bang Si-hyuk broke the news that a K-drama inspired by the worldwide phenomenon BTS was in the works. “We are working with a famous Korean production company to produce a drama where the theme is based on the way BTS looks at the world,” he said at a press conference. At the time, HYBE Labels’ Chairman told reporters the drama—now titled Begins ≠ Youth—was slated for a 2020 release. However, due to circumstances beyond the agency’s control, it will premiere later this year instead.

The inspiration for Begins ≠ Youth comes from the BTS Universe (BU). Created by HYBE when the agency was still called BigHit Music, the BU tells the stories of characters based on the BTS members. It’s a complex fictional narrative that spans across some of BTS’s albums, books, short films, webtoons, and more.

Lee Young Ae to Return as Dae Jang Geum in New Drama

After two long decades, the iconic Dae Jang Geum is back! On January 30, entertainment company Fantagio confirmed that veteran actress Lee Young Ae will reprise her iconic role as Dae Jang Geum from the hit 2003 classic drama Jewel in the Palace.

According to Fantagio, the upcoming drama with the working title of  Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum, will follow the story of Jang Geum’s journey as the king’s first female physician. 

During the airing of Jewel in the Palace, the 54-part series became the top program and recorded a whopping average viewership rating of 45.8% in South Korea. Later, it was exported to 91 countries and became one of the primary components of the “Korean Wave”. 

After the drama ended, Young Ae won the Daesang grand prize at the 2003 MBC Drama Awards for her legendary performance as  Jang Geum.

Initially, many thought that the new drama would be a sequel to Jewel in the Palace. However, a few weeks after the project was first announced, it was clarified that the new drama is unrelated to the 2003 show. 

According to reports, Fantagio clarified that it is a “new fiction based on the historical figure Dae Jang Geum and her history.” Moreover, they noted that it “does not feature the return of the character from the previous drama.” 

Prior to this, scriptwriter Kim Young Hyun, the original creator of Jewel in the Palace, has clarified that she’s not involved in the new project. 

Nostalgic return of Jang Geum

With the confirmation of Jang Geum’s return, many K-drama fans who were avid watchers of Jewel in The Palace expressed their excitement for the new show.

On social media, fans said that the sequel will be a nostalgic treat and will bring old memories back. One even mentioned that “watching Dae Jang Geum as an adult is going to be emotional.”

Other fans are also thrilled to see Young Ae’s exceptional performance as an older version of Jang Geum. Some fans shared they are really looking forward to the sequel and will definitely tune in once it airs.

Aside from her role in Jewel in The Palace, Young Ae is also loved for her outstanding acting skills in the films One Fine Spring Day and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. In 2023, her latest drama Maestra also achieved massive success.

According to the production crew, the series will begin filming in October 2024 and will air in the first half of 2025. Stay tuned for further details about the project!

EXO’s Xiumin and WJSN’s Exy To Star in ‘Restaurant Heo’

Mark your calendars, K-drama fans! K-pop idols  Xiumin and Exy will be headlining a new drama! 

Xiumin from boy group EXO and Exy from girl group WJSN are confirmed to star as the main characters in the upcoming fantasy romantic-comedy series Restaurant Heo.

According to the drama’s production crew, Restaurant Heo will be based on the web novel of the same title. The story will revolve around Heo Gyun (to be played by Xiumin), a problematic figure from the Joseon Dynasty. He will time travel 400 years into the present time and accidentally starts a restaurant.

On the other hand, Exy will take on the role of Eun Sil, a realist daughter of a restaurant owner who believes a home-cooked meal business will not make enough money. With Heo Gyun appearing in front of the restaurant out of nowhere, Heo Gyun and Eun Sil’s messy relationship begins.

Also part of the series are actors Lee Sae On and Lee Soo Min. Moreover, both Sae On and Soo Min will be taking on dual roles with different characters set in the past and the present.

According to reports, Restaurant Heo is scheduled to air in the latter half of 2024. As of writing, a final release date has yet to be announced. 

More about Xiumin and Exy’s acting ventures

While Xiumin and Exy have established their singing careers in their respective groups, they continue to make names for themselves in the acting industry as well.

To note, Xiumin made his musical theater debut in SM Entertainment’s 2015 musical Wizard of Oz, where he starred alongside his fellow SM artists. In that same year, he also starred in his first ever drama, Falling for Challenge.

In 2016, the EXO member made his big screen debut with the film Seondal. After an acting hiatus of about seven years, Xiumin made his anticipated return last 2023 with the drama Boss-dol Mart.

As for Exy, her acting career began in the 2021 drama Idol: The Coup. After receiving praise for her skills as a rookie actress, she continued to take on a number of dramas and films. Aside from Restaurant Heo, Exy will also star in the 2024 film 18 Youth, where she will be acting alongside Weki Meki’s Doyeon and actress Jeon So Min.

What We Know So Far About EXO’s Suho New Drama ‘The Crown Prince Has Disappeared’

EXO-Ls, are you ready to see leader Suho as a crown prince? On January 26, TV program MBN has confirmed that Suho of the boy group EXO is set to star in the upcoming historical romantic-comedy drama The Crown Has Disappeared

According to reports, the idol will play the role of Yi Geon, the Crown Prince of Joseon.

Moreover, the EXO member will be joined by a number of esteemed actors in the industry. First off the list is actress Hong Ye Ji, who is set to play the role of Choi Myung Yoon. In the story, Myung Yoon is known as the best female general of Joseon and a well-known daughter of a royal courtier.

Next is veteran actress Myung Se Bin, who will be making her return in a historical drama as Queen Min Soo Ryeon. Meanwhile, actor Kim Joo Heon will take on the role of Choi Sang-Rok, Myung Yoon’s father.

Notably, the amazing cast line-up will be completed by actor Kim Min Kyu, who will be playing as Prince Do Sung, the Crown Prince’s half-brother. Bringing his good looks and excellent martial arts skills, Do Sung will liven up the atmosphere with his undeniable charms.

 

Fans get excited for actor Suho! 

In the released still cuts of the drama’s script reading, the actors were seen immersing in their respective characters. Moreover, the production crew said that the actors’ performances were met with applause as they showed off their impeccable skills. 

Furthermore, it was revealed that the new series will be a spin-off of the successful 2021 drama Bossam: Stealing Fate, which was labeled as the most-watched MBN drama of that year. In addition, it will be spearheaded by director Kim Jin Man, who is known for his delicate directing through the dramas Kill Me, Heal Me and Rebel: The Thief Who Stole the People.

Following his 2023 drama Behind Your Touch, fans have expressed their excitement to see Suho back on the small screen. 

On social media, the singer’s fans said that they are proud of Suho’s rising acting career. One wrote that they’re looking forward to seeing the idol-actor “shine even brighter.” Meanwhile other fans noted that the project is a drama to watch out for.

Meanwhile, The Crown Has Disappeared will release its first episode on March 9.

IU, Park Bo Gum to Star in Netflix’s ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’

Buckle up, K-drama fans! South Korean stars IU and Bo Gum will soon be appearing in a series together! On January 30, Netflix confirmed that singer-actress IU and renowned actor Park Bo Gum will be teaming up for the upcoming romance drama When Life Gives You Tangerines.

According to Netflix, the series will follow the story of Ae Sun (IU), an unyielding rebel and Gwan Sik (Bo Gum), a reliable guy who’s been keeping feelings for Ae Sun since childhood. Set in Jeju Island, the drama’s title is a play on the Jeju dialect which literally translates to “Thank You for Your Hard Work.” 

Aside from the appealing storyline, fans are also excited to see the chemistry between the two stars. Since both of them are known to have made several hit dramas, supporters are looking forward to seeing them in one project. 

To note, IU, whose real name is Lee Ji Eun, is considered as one of the most esteemed lead actresses in the industry. Aside from her astonishing career as a singer, her stellar performances as an artist also extends to film.

Some of her most notable works include Scarlet Heart Ryeo and My Mister. Meanwhile, When Life Gives You Tangerines will also be IU’s comeback drama after Hotel del Luna, which was released way back in 2019.

On the other hand, Park Bo Gum has established himself as one of the highly admired actors of his generation. Among his works that gained him popularity are the hit dramas Reply 1988, Encounter, and Record of Youth

What we know so far about ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’

In the series, the older versions of the two lead characters will later be played by veteran actors Moon So Ri  and Park Hae Joon. To note, Moon is known for her role in The Queenmaker while Park starred in The World of the Married.

Moreover, the upcoming romance drama will be helmed by the experienced director Kim Won Seok. His filmography includes Misaeng, Signal, and My Mister, where he first worked with IU.

Furthermore, director Kim will work alongside writer Lim Sang Chun. To note, Lim previously made the hits Fight for My Way and When the Camellia Blooms

Although there is no official date yet, When Life Gives You Tangerines  is expected to premiere on Netflix this 2024.

Lee Min Ho, Ahn Hyo Seop, BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and More Gather for ‘Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint’ Script Reading

It’s official! A refreshing cast line-up for Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is set to grace the big screens!

On January 24, South Korean media outlets confirmed the cast of the highly-anticipated film adaptation of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. The star-studded lineup includes renowned actors Lee Min Ho and Ahn Hyo Seop, Jisoo of the girl group BLACKPINK, actress Chae Soo Bin, actor Shin Seung Ho, singer-actress Nana, and many more.

Alongside the confirmation of the cast, it was revealed that the crew have already begun filming in December 2023. In addition, the behind-the-scenes photos of the cast at the film’s script reading were also released.

What we know so far about ‘Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint’

Aside from the amazing team-up of the actors, fans are also anticipating the film for its interesting plot.

For those who don’t know, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint  is an action-fantasy film based on a web novel sensation of the same name. To note, the story follows Kim Dok Ja (who will be played by Ahn Hyo Seop), the sole person who knows the miserable ending of the web novel he is reading. Remarkably, this will be Hyo Seop’s debut on the big screen as he has only previously starred in dramas. 

With the fictional story coming to reality, Dok Ja embarks on a journey with the novel’s main character, Yoo Jung Hyuk (Lee Min Ho). Aware of what’s about to happen, Dok Ja attempts to change Jung Hyuk’s doomed fate.

Meanwhile, the characters of Jisoo, Seung Ho, Soo Bin, Nana and others will also be introduced as the story unfolds. According to reports, the actors will play significant roles in Dok Ja and Jung Hyuk’s battle for survival.

Furthermore, the web novel has received immense love from its readers and has accumulated over 200 Million views since getting published in Naver in 2018.  

Aside from it being a famous novel, fans also have high expectations for the upcoming film as it will be helmed by director Kim Byung Woo. Previously, director Kim has gained recognition for his works The Terror Live and Take Point

For Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, he will be working with REALIS Pictures, the production company behind the hit film “Along With the Gods.

As of writing, additional details about the film are yet to be revealed.

First look: NCT’s Jaehyun in Debut Film ‘You Will Die After Six Hours’

Brace yourselves, NCTzens because actor Jaehyun is back! Jeong Jaehyun, known as a multitalented member of the boy group NCT, is now making his big screen debut with the film You Will Die After Six Hours

In the movie, the K-pop idol will be starring alongside Extracurricular actress Park Ju Hyun. 

In its first released still, Jaehyun and Ju Hyun showed a glimpse of the film’s mysterious and thrilling ambiance. As seen in the photo, Ju Hyun is seated on the floor while Jaehyun is gripping her arms. Moreover, both actors are seen looking at something over the distance.

More about ‘You Will Die After Six Hours

For those unaware, the said film is based on a Japanese novel by the renowned writer Takano Kazuaki. According to reports, the mystery-thriller film will revolve around a series of unprecedented events with the characters attempting to escape their miserable fate.

In the film, Jaehyun will portray the character of Jun-Woo, a man who possesses the ability to foresee the future and predict death. Meanwhile,  Ju Hyun will take on the role of Jung Yoon, who finds herself receiving a death notice.

Furthermore, as confirmed by South Korean media outlets, You Will Die After Six Hours will be screened at the Berlin Festival in February. It is also slated for release in the second half of the year via domestic platforms.

Fans’ excitement for actor-idol Jaehyun

Notably, the film will serve as Jaehyun’s comeback as an actor. In 2022, the singer starred as the male lead in his first ever drama Dear M.

Upon the confirmation of Jaehyun’s first film, fans, especially NCT’s fanbase NCTzens, brought their excitement on social media. 

Some fans pointed out that You Will Die After Six Hours being screened at the Berlin Film Festival is a huge achievement as it is considered one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. “Actor Jaehyun’s big screen debut is crazy… So proud of him.”, one wrote.

Aside from his film debut, 2024 is even looking more promising for Jaehyun.  To specify, his drama Dear  M is reported to air  on KBS2 sometime this year. Although there are no confirmations yet, fans are already anticipating its TV release as it was only available on global streaming platforms when it first came out.

Moreover, NCTzens are also looking forward to Jaehyun’s solo debut. While there are no official announcements yet, fans are saying that the “Try Again singer has been consistently dropping hints about dropping new music.
