Red Velvet’s Wendy to Make Solo Comeback With ‘Wish You Hell’

Save the date, Reveluvs! Wendy will be returning with new music soon!

On Monday, February 19, K-pop girl group Red Velvet announced through their official social media accounts that member Wendy will be making her first solo comeback with the mini album Wish You Hell.

With this, the vocalist is making her return as a soloist after almost three years. In April 2021, Wendy released her first mini album Like Water. 

To recall, said album drew numerous for Wendy’s excellent singing abilities. As such, it topped the iTunes Top Album Chart in 33 regions around the world. In addition, the title track “Like Water” also won the “Best Ballad” award at the 31st Seoul Music Awards.

Furthermore, SM Entertainment revealed that Wish You Hell will contain a total of 6 tracks including the title song of the same name. As per the agency, the album will showcase Wendy’s colorful music.

Fans excited for new album from Wendy 

Following the announcement, Red Velvet’s fanbase, Reveluvs, expressed their excitement on social media by trending the hashtag #SoloistWendyComeback.

“We are finally getting a new message from [Wendy]. I am so excited!” one fan wrote. Another mentioned that the “When This Rain Stops” singer is about to save the music industry with her six new songs.

Some Reveluvs also applauded the Red Velvet member’s  wide range with her album titles alone. One said that “Like Water” and “Wish You Hell” already shows the “duality” of Son Seungwan, the singer’s real name. 

To note, Wish You Hell, her second mini-album will officially be out on March 12. Additional details about it, however, are yet to be released.

In other news, Wendy currently acts as a judge in MNET’s ongoing survival show Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survivor. In that variety show, she judges alongside fellow renowned vocalists Solar of MAMAMOO, Eunkwang of BtoB, soloists Baekho and Kim Jaehwan, and singer-songwriter Lee Seok Hoon. Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN’s main vocal, Seungkwan, also appeared as a special judge in one of its episodes.

Red Velvet Plans to Celebrate 10th Anniversary With a New Album

Welcoming 2024 with a bang, Red Velvet just dropped some good news for ReveLuvs! 

On December 31, Red Velvet members Irene, Seulgi and Wendy had their year-end performance at the BGC New Year’s Eve Concert in the Philippines. In a press conference for the said event, the K-pop idols shared their plans for the new year.

There, the girls mentioned their plans in celebration of their 10th anniversary. To note, the famed SM Entertainment girl group debuted in August 2014 with the single “Happiness.” Since then, the quintet have been releasing hit tracks including “Red Flavor”, “Psycho”, “Feel My Rhythm”, among many others.

With 2024 marking their 10th year in the industry, the group’s leader Irene revealed that they hope to release an upcoming album to commemorate the milestone. “However, there’s nothing firmly scheduled, so we cannot really disclose about it”, the singer then clarified.

Aside from their plans for the group, Irene, Seulgi and Wendy also shared their personal goals for 2024.

First, Irene started off by saying she wanted to challenge herself by trying to learn new things and new hobbies this year.

 

Next is Seulgi, who will be turning 30 in February. As she’s set to have a personal milestone for this year, the idol shared that she aspires to become a better adult. “As an adult, I want to become wiser,” she said. Moreover, she also hoped to have lesser worries in her work. “I’d like to have a happier life without anxieties in terms of doing work. I think it will help give this work more longevity if I do it with more happiness”, the “28 Reasons” singer added.

On the other hand, Wendy said that her top priority in 2024 is to stay happy and healthy, while also meeting new people along the way.

To recall, Red Velvet has recently dropped their third full-length album Chill Kill last November. Notably, the album served as a treat for the group’s fanbase as it was their first full album in six years.

Although there are no confirmations yet, fans have expressed their high hopes for Red Velvet’s 10th anniversary album on social media.

Red Velvet’s Joy Shares Health Update After Receiving Comments About Her Weight

Several clips of K-pop girl group Red Velvet went viral recently for their latest performance at an event  in Indonesia. However, one of the group’s members, Joy, was called out for her appearance.

In the girl group’s performance at the said show, some netizens noticed that Joy had a sudden weight gain. 

On the paid service app Bubble, the singer gave a health update to Red Velvet’s fanbase also known as Luvies. 

“There are a lot of luvies who are worried and curious about year-end me. I’m kinda worried about saying this. But since I didn’t fully recover when I went on a hiatus this year, my health got worse because of recent activities,” the singer opened up.

To note, Joy went on a hiatus in April to focus on her declining health. But after only about two months of getting rest, the singer immediately resumed her activities in June. 

Taking the recent matter into consideration, the singer and her agency, SM Entertainment, had a discussion regarding her activities. Both parties decided to allow the singer to focus on her health for the rest of the year.  Moreover, she then clarified that she won’t be going on a full hiatus unlike last time.

At the end of her message, Joy left an apology to her fans. “I always want to show you the best of myself but it doesn’t go as well as I want. I’m sorry,” she said.

Fans’ unwavering support for Joy

Following the unsolicited comments that Joy received, many of her fans were quick to jump to her defense.  On social media, Reveluvs reassured the artist with warm and positive remarks. Furthermore, a lot of fans expressed their continued support for the artist especially since she had a tough year. 

One fan wrote: “Joy gaining a bit of weight does not make her any less beautiful than she was before. Meanwhile, others said that the singer is “beyond beautiful in any shape.”

SM Entertainment Launches 2024 Global Auditions

Ever dreamed of being the next K-pop superstar? Well, here’s the chance you’ve been waiting for to be labelmates with SM Entertainment artists. 

In a 20-second video clip released on Tuesday, December 12, SM Entertainment has officially launched its 2024 Global Auditions. 

As per the details posted, anyone born from 2005 to 2013, regardless of gender or nationality, are welcome to apply. Notably, young aspirants will then be evaluated in the categories of vocal, dance, rap and acting.

Moreover, the auditions will kick off in Seoul on January 6, 2024. After that, there will also be auditions held across several cities in South Korea including Daegu, Busan, Daejeon, Gwangju, Gangwon, Wonju and Jeju Island. 

Bringing the auditions to a global scale, SM Entertainment will also reach various countries including Thailand, Japan, Canada, and USA. According to the schedule released, the international auditions will be held between February to March 2024. 

After the first round of online registration, applicants who passed the initial screening will be invited for an on-site audition. Then, the final winners will get the opportunity to get trained or sign an exclusive contract with the renowned agency.

In addition, the application period for the said talent search event will only be from January to March 2024. Aspirants can send their application and learn more about the opportunity through SM Entertainment’s global site.
