RED VELVET Wendy to Return as ‘Young Street’ DJ

Red Velvet’s Wendy is all set to return as the DJ of SBS Power FM’s “Young Street,” bringing her warmth and energy back to the beloved radio program.

On August 13, SBS PowerFM confirmed Wendy’s much-anticipated comeback, which will begin on August 19, marking approximately a year since she stepped down from the role due to conflicting schedules.

Wendy initially took on the role of DJ for “Young Street” in July 2021, where she quickly won the hearts of listeners with her cheerful demeanor and positive energy. For two years, she created a space where fans could connect with her and enjoy her lively interactions, making “Young Street” a popular show. Her departure in July 2023 left many fans disappointed, but her return is set to rekindle the vibrant atmosphere that she brought to the show. The comeback broadcast is scheduled to air on August 19 at 8 p.m. KST on SBS PowerFM, and fans can also tune in via the SBS Gorilla app for live viewing.

An Awesome Year for Red Velvet

Wendy’s return to “Young Street” comes on the heels of Red Velvet’s recent success with their latest EP, “Cosmic,” which was released in June. The mini-album received an overwhelmingly positive response from fans around the world, quickly becoming a global sensation. Upon its release, “Cosmic” soared to the top of iTunes charts in numerous countries, achieving the No. 1 spot on iTunes Top Albums charts in at least 41 different regions by June 25 KST. Red Velvet’s Wendy to Make Solo Comeback With ‘Wish You Hell’

Save the date, Reveluvs! Wendy will be returning with new music soon!

On Monday, February 19, K-pop girl group Red Velvet announced through their official social media accounts that member Wendy will be making her first solo comeback with the mini album Wish You Hell.

With this, the vocalist is making her return as a soloist after almost three years. In April 2021, Wendy released her first mini album Like Water

To recall, said album drew numerous for Wendy’s excellent singing abilities. As such, it topped the iTunes Top Album Chart in 33 regions around the world. In addition, the title track “Like Water also won the “Best Ballad” award at the 31st Seoul Music Awards.

Furthermore, SM Entertainment revealed that Wish You Hell will contain a total of 6 tracks including the title song of the same name. As per the agency, the album will showcase Wendy’s colorful music.

Fans excited for new album from Wendy 

Following the announcement, Red Velvet’s fanbase, Reveluvs, expressed their excitement on social media by trending the hashtag #SoloistWendyComeback.

“We are finally getting a new message from [Wendy]. I am so excited!” one fan wrote. Another mentioned that the “When This Rain Stopssinger is about to save the music industry with her six new songs.

Some Reveluvs also applauded the Red Velvet member’s  wide range with her album titles alone. One said that “Like Water and Wish You Hell already shows the “duality” of Son Seungwan, the singer’s real name. 

To note, Wish You Hell, her second mini-album will officially be out on March 12. Additional details about it, however, are yet to be released.

In other news, Wendy currently acts as a judge in MNET’s ongoing survival show Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survivor. In that variety show, she judges alongside fellow renowned vocalists Solar of MAMAMOO, Eunkwang of BtoB, soloists Baekho and Kim Jaehwan, and singer-songwriter Lee Seok Hoon. Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN’s main vocal, Seungkwan, also appeared as a special judge in one of its episodes.

Red Velvet’s Wendy and RIIZE’s Eunseok to voice Korean dub of ‘Trolls: Band Together’

Wendy of Red Velvet and Eunseok of RIIZE are teaming up together to be the voices of the characters in the Korean version of the animated film Trolls: Band Together. 

On Monday, November 21, Universal Pictures Korea made the announcement alongside photos of the SM Entertainment artists posing with the figurines of their respective characters. 

According to Universal Pictures Korea, Wendy will be reprising her role of Poppy in the third installment of the movie series. Previously, Wendy has lent her voice to Poppy in the Korean dub of the second movie, Trolls: World Tour. Since she already received praise for her exceptional voice acting in the previous film, Wendy is anticipated to continue bringing her unique charm to the character in the latest movie. 

On the other hand, Eunseok from RIIZE will take on the role of Branch, the golden youngest member of the idol group Bro Zone. Notably, said character was previously voiced by actor and ex-SF9 member Rowoon. As this will be the first dubbing project for Eunseok, fans are happy with this opportunity for the rookie idol to charm more fans with his low-pitched voice. 

Meanwhile, Trolls: Band Together will follow Poppy and Branch as they try to reunite the disbanded idol group Bro Zone due to a feud among the members. It is slated to hit Korean theaters on December 20. 

Moreover, Korean media also reported that Wendy and Eunseok will also participate in various events and contents to promote the film. 

Other projects aside from ‘Trolls: Band Together’

The news about Trolls: Band Together came amidst Wendy and Eunseok’s promotional activities for their respective groups. 

On October 27, RIIZE made their first-ever comeback with the single “Talk Saxy.Notably, the single came after the massive success of their debut album Get A Guitar, which made them million-sellers within a week of its release. 

Meanwhile, Red Velvet released their third full-length album Chill Kill on November 17. To note, the album marks the group’s first full-length release in six years.

RED VELVET Postpones Concerts After Wendy COVID-19 Diagnosis

RED VELVET is putting a stop to their upcoming show dates in Bangkok. The girl group postponed their forthcoming concerts in Thailand after Wendy tested positive for COVID-19.

RED VELVET’s Wendy Tests Positive For COVID-19

On May 10, SM Entertainment confirmed that Wendy tested positive for COVID-19. “Wendy felt unwell and underwent a rapid antigen test,” the agency announced. After the positive diagnosis, Shon Seung-wan halted all activities. She will not be able to host her SBS radio show “Wendy’s Young Street”.

Wendy has been in quarantine due to her condition and the rest of RED VELVET will be taking a break as well. Following the announcement, concert organizer SM True announced the indefinite postponement of the group’s upcoming ‘R to V’ concerts in Bangkok. The girl group was scheduled for two dates on May 13 and 14 at THUNDER DOME.

Due to the artist’s health condition necessitating quarantine in accordance with the COVID-19 measures mandated by the South Korean government, as well as other factors and schedules that require further consideration and evaluation by all relevant parties involved, the concert has been postponed indefinitely,” the statement read.

The company prioritizes the health and safety of the artists, audiences and staff, as a top concern,” it continues. “For a ticket refund, the company will promptly provide detailed information regarding the ticket refund process.”

RED VELVET Takes A Break As Wendy and Joy Recover From Health Issues

Wendy isn’t the only member of RED VELVET with health issues. Joy has been on temporary hiatus due to undisclosed health issues and the group has been promoting with four members. With Wendy unable to perform, it only makes sense that RED VELVET chose to postpone the shows.

For now, the new dates for the ‘R to V’ concerts in Bangkok have not yet been announced. However, REVELUVs are already hoping for an announcement in a fortnight. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
