ZEROBASEONE to Drop ‘Sweat’ Before 3rd Mini Album ‘You Had Me at HELLO’

The winners of Mnet’s survival show Boys PlanetZhang Hao, Sung Hanbin, Seok Matthew, Ricky, Park Gunwook, Kim Taerae, Kim Gyuvin, Kim Jiwoong, and Han Yujin, collectively known as ZEROBASEONE—are preparing for another comeback.

This time around, their opening salvo is a pre-release track called “Sweat,” set for release at 6:00 PM on April 24. This marks the first time the nine-member group will do a pre-release promotion for an album track. As its title suggests, “Sweat” aims to capture the heat and passion of the summer season.

An extensive promotional strategy

To further engage with their audience, ZEROBASEONE has lined up a series of performances across major South Korean music shows. The group will debut “Sweat” on Mnet’s M! Countdown on April 25, followed by appearances on KBS2’s Music Bank on the 26th, MBC’s Show! Music Core on the 27th, and SBS’s Inkigayo on the 28th. These performances are part of an extensive promotional strategy to build momentum for their new material.

Excitement for ZEROBASEONE’s upcoming activities began building last month. They attended KCON 2024 at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong, where they announced a new batch of tracks set to drop on May 13. The album, titled You Had Me at HELLO, is their third Korean EP following Boys Planet. They also shared a comeback poster on their official social media accounts on April 13.

ZEROBASEONE achieved remarkable success

Fans found the title of the group’s new mini album particularly intriguing. They’re eager to discover the stories and themes ZEROBASEONE will explore in this latest work. The group previously achieved remarkable success with their debut mini-album YOUTH IN THE SHADE and its follow-up, MELTING POINT. Both mini albums sold over two million copies. Their recent Japanese single “YURA YURA – Flower of Fate –” saw major success too, selling half a million copies shortly after its release.

With a track record of sold-out fan meetings in both Korea and Japan and a rookie grand slam under their belt, ZEROBASEONE has firmly established themselves as a leading fifth-generation group. Critics and fans alike are eager to see what else they have up their sleeves. – K-Pop News Writer

EXO Fans Call Out SM Entertainment For Excluding Chen in Latest Promos

It looks like SM Entertainment has once again found itself in hot water. EXO fans are calling out the company for excluding Chen from promotional content for the group’s latest videos.

SM Entertainment Under Fire for Excluding Chen From EXO Promos

The recent controversy surrounding the exclusion of Chen from new content shared by SM Entertainment has sparked discussions among EXO fans regarding the treatment of the idol since his marriage announcement in 2020.

EXO’s “Travel The World On A Ladder”, a popular series among fans, has recently come under scrutiny for not featuring Chen in the thumbnails of unseen clips shared online. While Chen appears in each video, his absence from the thumbnails has raised questions and concerns among fans about his treatment by the agency.

Fans have pointed out that this is not the first time Chen has been excluded from promotional materials or thumbnails for EXO-related content. Upon closer examination of past clips shared on YouTube, it becomes apparent that Chen is featured less frequently in thumbnails compared to other members. This discrepancy has left fans feeling disappointed and frustrated, as they believe Chen deserves equal representation and recognition as a member of EXO.

Why is SM Excluding Chen From Promotions?

The controversy surrounding Chen’s exclusion from promotional materials is compounded by the tumultuous events that have unfolded since his marriage announcement in 2020. Despite expressing his desire to continue his career as a member of EXO, Chen faced backlash and criticism from some fans, who demanded his departure from the group. This backlash was evident during an EXO event where Chen reportedly received the silent treatment from fans.

Despite the challenges he has faced, Chen has remained dedicated to EXO and his musical endeavors. His commitment to the group has been unwavering, even as he navigates the complexities of married life and fatherhood. However, the recent controversy surrounding his exclusion from promotional materials has reignited discussions about the treatment of Chen by SM Entertainment and EXO fandom.

As fans continue to express their support for Chen and demand equal treatment for all members of EXO, it remains to be seen how SM Entertainment will address the concerns raised by fans regarding Chen’s representation in future content.

TXT’s Yeonjun Opens Up About Stepping Down From ‘Inkigayo’

TXT’s Yeonjun, BOYNEXTDOOR’s Woonhak, and actress Park Ji Hu have stepped down from their roles as MCs of SBS’s Inkigayo. Yeonjun started hosting the show in April 2022, followed by Park Ji Hu and Woonhak in July 2023. Although their time on the show has come to an end, fans will still see them as they return to their main careers, where they will continue to engage with fans in their respective fields.

Yeonjun opens up about ‘Inkigayo’

When he got back to TXT’s dorm after the broadcast, Yeonjun went live on Weverse to talk about the show. He revealed that he was able to take home some very special souvenirs: “Inkigayo gave me a few things—this picture, the sign I held up, and my last cue card. I cried so much today, so my eyes are really puffy right now. I’m just so grateful.”

The connection he felt with the show was deep and meaningful. “I can’t imagine my Sundays without Inkigayo. Inkigayo is actually a job, right? But from the day I started, I never thought of it as work. I always felt like, ‘I’m going for a healing time, I’m going to have fun,’” Yeonjun shared.

He reflected on his experiences and the bonds he formed with his colleagues. “The staff were all really kind. The MCs that I did Inkigayo with now and in the past…I was able to meet really good people and find really good relationships within them. I actually missed a lot of Inkigayo episodes because of our tour, right? I always felt really bad and sorry about it. But they never made me feel anything, and they were so kind every time I’d come back. I felt really bad because I felt like I couldn’t be that great of an MC, but the staff always made me feel so great, and they always said to me, ‘You’re the best MC.’ So, I felt really grateful; they were always kind to me even though I was lacking.”

Forever son

The emotional weight of his farewell was evident as Yeonjun discussed how he managed his feelings during his final hours on the show. “All the MCs were trying their best to be hyped today, even though we were all teary-eyed. When I went on stage for the performance, I was feeling teary-eyed again, so I was dancing with tears in my eyes. I just had tears in my eyes the whole time,” he admitted.

“Even on my way back, I kept thinking about it and holding in my tears. I didn’t even look at my phone on purpose. I was just zoned out and thinking about things. I cried so much today, my eyes hurt now,” Yeonjun continued. “I guess I still have a lot of lingering feelings from it. I was an MC for 2 years. I guess I felt very strongly about it. It was very special to me. Although I’m very sad about it, and I will miss it, I think it ended very beautifully. All the Inkigayo staff members, when I was crying, they were crying too, and they kept telling me, ‘It’s not the end, this is just a new beginning.’”

Finally, he said, “I miss it already. I already miss you, Inkigayo. I’m Inkigayo’s forever son.’”

Who will replace them?

Following their departure, the Inkigayo stage is set to welcome new hosts: IVE’s Leeseo, ZEROBASEONE’s Han Yu Jin, and actor Moon Sung Hyun, who are expected to bring fresh charisma to the beloved music show. Ahead of their first episode, BOYNEXTDOOR’s Sungho, Taesan, and Woonhak will take the stage for the April 21 broadcast as special MCs.

EXO D.O. and Kai Finally Participate in ‘First Snow’ Challenge

The wait is finally over. EXO members D.O. and Kai have officially taken part in the “First Snow” challenge that became viral late last year!

EXO’s D.O. and Kai Take Part in ‘First Snow’ Challenge at Latest Fan Meeting

On April 14, EXO held their 12th anniversary fan meeting ‘2024 EXO FAN MEETING : ONE‘ at the Incheon Yeongjongdo Inspire Arena. Although they were unable to participate since they were both serving their mandatory military service, members Kai and Sehun supported their hyungs by attending the second session of the event.

At one point, “First Snow” was brought up and it was mentioned that both D.O. and Kai had not yet participated in the viral challenge. The members then encouraged them to do the challenge and after some enthusiastic urging, Kim Jongin stood up to do the dance.

When Kai was done, the EXO members then turned to D.O. and urged him to do the challenge. EXO-Ls cheered as Doh Kyungsoo did the challenge.

The Unexpected Success of ‘The First Snow’

“The First Snow” was initially part of EXO’s 2013 album ‘Miracles in December.’ Its recent resurgence in popularity can be attributed to the TikTok challenge associated with the song. The challenge gained considerable traction, leading to increased streaming numbers and a resurgence in chart performance.

The song also holds historical significance as it was originally released when EXO still had its original 12 members before the departures of Luhan, Kris, and Tao in the following year. The song’s enduring appeal and the success of the recent TikTok challenge demonstrate the lasting impact and popularity of EXO’s music, even years after its initial release.

The EXO members are currently busy with their own solo endeavors. However, Suho has confirmed that they will prepare for a full group comeback once Kai and Sehun have completed their mandatory military service sometime in 2025.

TXT Fans React to Francine Diaz’s Mistake at ASEAN Prize 2024

At the ASEAN Prize 2024 event in Japan, Francine Diaz accidentally mispronounced the name of the K-pop group TOMORROW X TOGETHER, aka TXT. Instead of saying “Tomorrow by Together,” the Filipina actress said “Tomorrow times Together.” The mistake occurred when Francine announced the winner of the ASEAN GLOBAL KPOP LEADERS award. Despite the mix-up, the TXT members were visibly thrilled when they realized they had won.

When a clip of the moment went viral on the internet, Francine’s family, fans, and friends were worried that the actress would be harshly criticized for her mistake. But fans of TXT, affectionately known as MOAs (Moments of Alwaysness), reacted in a way no one saw coming.

@czeryy_cam

she’s so cute with that “tomorrow times together” 😅😊 #francinediaz #francine #lia #itzy #txt #tomorrow_x_together #foryou

An honest mistake

Instead of getting upset, MOAs worldwide rallied around the actress. They found Francine adorable and recognized it was an honest mistake. Some even loved the way she pronounced “TOMORROW X TOGETHER” because she took the name literally. After all, the “x” symbol is most commonly used to denote multiplication in math. For instance, in equations or mathematical expressions, “x” often means “times,” as in “3 x 4,” which is read as “three times four.”

Francine took to Instagram after the event to address the incident. During a live broadcast, she issued a heartfelt apology for the slip-up. “I’m very sorry for that very big mistake. Please excuse me because I am not that updated anymore with what is happening in the K-pop world,” she explained, adding humorously, “You know I only stan two groups. But now, I know better because I’ve been educated: Tomorrow By Together.”

The actress also told fans what went down when she met up with TXT backstage. “In fairness, they were very kind when I went down the stairs with them; they let me walk first. They even offered me a seat. They are very kind,” Francine recounted.

MOAs lifted Francine up

She ended her broadcast by thanking TXT’s fans for their understanding and light-hearted take on the situation, which could have easily turned into a nightmare. “But thank you because you took it in a positive way. Thank you for not making it a big deal,” she said.

With their reaction to Francine’s gaffe, MOAs worldwide proved they have a lot in common with Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai: They’re as kind and funny as the group they stan. Instead of bashing Francine, they lifted her up and showed that compassion trumps destructive criticism every time. – K-Pop News Writer
