BTS’s Jin Earns a New Military Badge to Add to His Uniform

BTS’s Jin has earned another new badge while serving in the South Korean military. As of this writing, he has several badges to his name, each a testament to his commendable performance as a soldier. His badges are proof of the significant contributions he has made to his unit since he enlisted almost two years ago. Jin began his military service on December 13, 2022, at a front-line boot camp located near South Korea’s border with North Korea. He’s currently with the 5th Infantry Division in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province.

Fans found out about Jin’s new badge thanks to Park Rokdam, head of the Korean Traditional Liquor Research Institute. Rokdam took to Facebook to share a photo of the K-pop superstar brewing traditional Korean liquor while wearing his uniform. Jin’s “Worldwide Handsome” features, combined with the intense aura he radiated while concentrating on the task, sparked enthusiastic reactions on social media.

The badges on Jin’s uniform include the following. First, he has the daehanminguk yuk-gun or 대한민국 육군 (Republic of Korea Army) badge, which signifies that he’s serving in the military. Next, he wears the jo-gyo or 조교 (Assistant Drill Instructor) badge, which reflects his role in training new recruits. He also earned the teukgeup jeonsa or 특급전사 (Special Warrior) badge after proving his exceptional combat and physical prowess. Lastly, the byeongjang or 병장 (Sergeant) badge refers to Jin’s rank as a senior non-commissioned officer.

His newest badge appears to be a division-specific award recognizing his exemplary performance as an Assistant Drill Instructor. Although the exact details of the badge’s significance are unavailable as of this writing, ARMYs couldn’t contain their enthusiasm and pride upon learning of Jin’s latest achievement.

BTS’s j-hope Poses for Photos at ROK Military Music and Honor Guard Festival

On April 12, the Republic of Korea (ROK) Army held the 2024 Military Music and Honor Guard Festival at the 36th Infantry Division in Gangwon-do. That day, BTS’s j-hope, who is currently serving as one of the division’s assistant instructors, became the center of attention. The festival, which featured military bands and honor guards from various divisions, highlighted j-hope’s popularity not just in the music scene, but also within the military.

Dressed in his military uniform, j-hope engaged enthusiastically with those who attended the event. He posed for photos with everyone who asked. He also displayed humility and respect for his fellow soldiers when he bowed to them. Photos and videos from the event, capturing him with male and female personnel from different military units, made the rounds on SNS.

He earned significant attention and praise from ARMYs and locals alike. Fans on X (formerly Twitter) were quick to celebrate the HOPE ON THE STREET star, using terms like “Captain Korea,” “main character,” and “Our Sunshine” to describe his impactful presence. They also called j-hope “Superstar of the ROK Army.”

j-hope continues to make waves

Since enlisting on April 18, 2023, j-hope has quickly adapted to military life. Aside from serving as an assistant instructor for the 36th Infantry Division, he was also named a special forces soldier. He also earned an early promotion to the rank of sergeant due to his proficiency in first aid and marksmanship. j-hope was also praised for his performance as a platoon leader last year.

j-hope continues to make waves in the music scene, even while he’s away in the military, thanks to previously recorded content that’s only now being released. His latest album, HOPE ON THE STREET VOL. 1, coincided with the debut of his reality show by the same name. This album quickly climbed to the top of the US Section of the Hanteo National Charts in the second week of April. It achieved a composite index of 7320.78 points.

The premiere of j-hope’s documentary HOPE ON THE STREET at midnight on March 28 was followed by the album’s release at 1:00 PM on March 29. The buzz continued with the launch of a pop-up store on March 30, where j-hope personally made an appearance. He posted a series of photos at the venue on Instagram.

Fans went wild when they saw that photo because such posts from the BTS members are rare these days due to their ongoing military service. Fortunately, j-hope stans won’t have to wait long to see him in the flesh again, as he’s set to be discharged this October. – K-Pop News Writer

BTS’s V Bulked Up While Serving as a Special Forces Soldier

BTS member V has been making waves for his impressive transformation while serving in South Korea’s elite Special Forces, the Special Duty Team (SDT). Recently, V took to Instagram to tell fans about his rigorous training and its effects on his physique. Before he enlisted, he held a live broadcast on Weverse with Jimin, Jungkook, and RM, in which he revealed his plan to bulk up while in the military. V’s goal was to go from 61 kg to 85 kg.

From BTS to the SDT

On April 12, V posted a bunch of photos on his Instagram Stories, highlighting the muscular build he developed as a member of the elite Special Duty Team (SDT) in the South Korean military. One photo featured him in a black shirt with the SDT logo. Other images showed him in more casual attire, such as a yellow T-shirt and jeans, and another in which he sports a black T-shirt with “AMAZING” across his chest. These photos captured bits and pieces of his daily life in and out of uniform.

One particularly striking post was a shirtless photo of V. In it, he was facing away from the camera, showing off the scars on his back. He captioned the photo with the words, “Wounds of glory.” This photo indicated the intensive and physically demanding nature of his military training.

ARMYs and military personnel alike felt for V when they saw his scars. “I was in the military seven years ago, and I still have scars like that on my lower back, so I can empathize with him,” wrote one veteran. “I think it’s because we’re asked to march while carrying heavy gear on our backs, crawl on a mountain, or get chafed by a long rope while climbing up. It could be any one of these three reasons. I hope Taehyung heals quickly. Even though some people recover quickly, applying cream can help!”

V’s bangin’ body

V also posted a photo of his hand and a four-leaf clover. He captioned it with, “Salute. How’s everyone doing? I’m working out healthily, wearing a cool black uniform and doing great training! When I went on vacation a little while ago, I celebrated Na PD’s birthday and had a great time talking to friends about the military. Now, I am working out very hard and weigh 75 kg, but since the soldiers of our unit have really great bodies, I have to work harder. I’ll try. Bye.” Netizens praised V for following through on his promise to bulk up while in the military. He hasn’t hit his goal weight yet, but he’ll get there soon enough at the rate he’s going.

This is the second sighting of V in as many months. Last March, he and other soldiers were spotted at a soccer match between Gangwon FC and FC Seoul. His appearance at the match, marked by fans’ cheers and his shy responses, was a delightful surprise to ARMYs who had been missing him dearly.

V’s military journey has been filled with significant milestones. After undergoing basic training, where he was named an elite soldier, he went to the Army Administrative School for an additional three weeks of training. After completing his advanced training, he was assigned to the “Ssangyong Unit”of the 2nd Corps of the Republic of Korea Army. He’s set to be discharged on June 10, 2025.

If his latest updates are any indication, his body might be even more bangin’ by the time he returns to the entertainment scene. – K-Pop News Writer

My Demon star Song Kang is set to enlist in the military this April. On February 29, his agency released a statement about the actor’s enlistment. “Hello, this is Namoo Actors. We express deep gratitude to the fans who always show love for actor Song Kang, and this is a notice regarding Song Kang’s enlistment,” they began.

Song Kang is preparing for this new chapter

Song Kang’s last public appearance was on February 6 at the GODIVA Samsung Town in Gangnam for the 2024 Valentine’s Day & White Day press event. Dressed in a romantic, all-white suit with a black tie and shoes, Song Kang charmed fans with his prince-like visuals.

During the event, he struck various poses for the cameras. He even saluted photographers while holding a heart-shaped box of GODIVA chocolates. Initially, Song Kang raised his left hand because he was holding the chocolates with his right. The photographers then reminded him that soldiers usually salute with the right hand. He quickly switched hands, smiling sheepishly at his mistake.

Here’s What Soldiers Need to Do to Get an Autograph From BTS’s V

Since BTS’s V and the other members enlisted in the South Korean military, they haven’t been as visible. News about how their service is going is rare. However, a recent revelation from an unnamed soldier has shed some light on what the “Slow Dancing” singer has been up to lately.

According to this unnamed soldier, the process to obtain an autograph from V in the military is unique, to say the least. “If you write your name down on a post-it note to get an autograph from V, executive officers get five. Assistant officers only get two. However, V won’t just give autographs to assistant officers.”

V apparently came up with a playful challenge for those seeking a personal memento from him. “He makes you solve a quiz in order to get an autograph,” the unnamed soldier elaborates. “This quiz asks questions such as, ‘What are the BTS members’ names?’ and ‘What is the title of a BTS song?’ If you get the answers wrong, he’ll link arms with other soldiers and chase you out.”

@borahaebtsfans

#Taehyung went to where the op’s uncle works Taehyung’s military autographed story (according to op’s uncle) “If you write your name on a post-it note and bring in to get an autograph, executives will get five autographs and assistants will only get two. But instead of just signing an autograph, the trainees had to solve a quiz. The quiz was ‘What are the names of the BTS members?’ ‘What is the title of the BTS song?’ If you get it wrong, the trainees next to you will link their arms and take you away.” Taehyung be like ‘you need to work hard to get my sign’ lmaooo 😭

V was inspired by Na PD

This approach is inspired by the variety shows of producer Na Young Suk. As it happens, V and Na PD know each other quite well because they worked together on one such show—2023’s Jinny’s Kitchen.

V’s military journey has been marked by many achievements. He began by applying to the Capital Defense Command’s Special Division Team (SDT). He passed the document screening, interview rounds, and physical fitness tests, then enrolled in a five-week basic training course. Upon graduating, he was named an elite soldier. Finally, V went to the Army Administrative School for an additional three weeks of training.

Upon completing his advanced training, V was assigned to the “Ssangyong Unit” in the 2nd Corps of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Army, which is under the Ground Operations Command. V began his service in the military police special task force, directly overseen by the headquarters of the 2nd Corps in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. He’s set to be discharged on June 10, 2025. Until then, he continues to leave quite an impression on his fellow soldiers with his unique sense of humor. – K-Pop News Writer

Fan Accidentally Registers as a Soldier While Checking App for News on BTS

A few days ago, the BTS fandom was left in stitches after a fan accidentally registered herself as a soldier in the Republic of Korea (ROK). This incident occurred when a Chinese ARMY, eager to stay updated on BTS‘s time in the military, accidentally signed up as a soldier on The Camp.

Developed by the ROK Army, The Camp is an app that allows civilians to stay in touch with young men who have enlisted in the South Korean military for their mandatory service. Fans of celebrities who are serving use it to receive updates, share messages of support, and connect with their favorites indirectly through the app. They can also use it to track how many days a soldier has left until the end of their enlistment.

News of what happened to the Chinese ARMY quickly spread online. At the time, she had been “serving” for nearly 100 days because, try as she might, she couldn’t figure out how to delete her account or undo her registration as a soldier. On Weibo, a China-based social media platform, the Chinese ARMY shared a screenshot of the app. Instead of showing how many days the BTS members have left in the military, The Camp displayed her own “enlistment” without a recognized name.

The fandom couldn’t contain their laughter as the fan shared her predicament, seeking advice on how to get out of it. Fans found the incident endearing, jokingly noting that the Chinese ARMY would be “discharged” in “564 days.”

BTS is no longer on The Camp

As of this writing, all seven BTS members are currently serving in the South Korean military. Jin was first to enlist on December 13, 2022, followed by j-hope on April 18, 2023. Both will complete their service this year, with Jin‘s discharge scheduled for June and j-hope‘s for October. SUGA, who enlisted on September 22, 2023, as a social worker due to a previous injury, is set to be discharged in June 2025. Finally, Jimin, Jungkook, RM, and V recently began their service in earnest after completing basic training. They’ll return to the music scene after 18 months.

@joan_kim30

“The Camp Mall”, a commerce channel of The Camp, sold a doll & name sign as a package using BTS members’ real names. The doll was sold at a high price of 56,000 won per unit. The agency believes that the artist’s name also corresponds to IP. In response to Hybe’s complaint, the management company of The Camp dropped its BTS-related posts and stopped selling brand name tags for artists. However, the BTS community is known to be still operating except for the name of “Official.” The camp reportedly protested that the community was created voluntarily by fans, not by the management company hybe officials said “Using IP of artists who joined the military, shakes the foundation of the entertainment industry that has invested a lot of money to discover and develop artists. We can never give indulgence just because it is a start-up” Hybe “In fact, it is a trick to continue take advantage of the promotional effect of the company leaning on BTS’ fandom and it is an expression of its willingness to continue free rides.” Meanwhile, The Camp did not make an official position by responding “We have nothing to say” ’The Camp’ is not owned by gov but by a startup company named Enable Daon Soft Co., Ltd. The service is in collab with South Korean Army with the aim of contributing to the communication between the military and society.“ The Camp is an integrated support service related to military service and military service, providing useful services for soldiers before enlisting, serving in the military, and after being discharged from the military.” (From their website) #BTS #jungkook #seokjin #jhope #rm #yoongi #taehyung #jimin #hybe

♬ Epilogue: Young Forever – BTS

Even if the Chinese ARMY hadn’t accidentally signed up as a soldier, she wouldn’t have been able to keep tabs on them using the app. Following a conflict involving BTS’s Intellectual Property (IP) rights, The Camp removed the BTS members from its “Recommended Star Soldier” list. HYBE Corporation had issued a warning against the app’s organization on January 9, 2024. They demanded the app adhere to IP regulations and the company’s privacy policies.

This incident highlights the lengths to which fans will go to stay connected with their idols, even if it means accidentally joining the military in the process. – K-Pop News Writer

About the Army Band

South Korea has several military bands, each linked to a different branch of the South Korean Armed Forces, such as the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, and Navy. Each branch has its own central band, along with additional regional bands and specialized ensembles within the military’s music departments.

These bands participate in international military music festivals and perform at military functions, national ceremonies, and official events. The red uniform, exclusive to band members, distinguishes them from other military personnel. Performing in the Army Band allows service members to use their talents while serving the country.

To join a military band in South Korea, individuals must audition. Applicants typically need a background in music, which might include formal education or performance experience. RM, with his background as the leader of BTS, certainly fits the bill. During the audition, would-be band members must prove they’re exceptionally skilled in playing an instrument or singing. Their suitability for military service might also be evaluated. Successful candidates then undergo basic military training before being assigned to the band.

RM does his best to stay connected

Despite having his hands full performing in the military band, RM has done his best to stay connected to the fans. On the 11th, he reached out via Weverse, inquiring about ARMYs’ well-being and talking about how he’s adjusting to military life. He wrote, “Are ARMYs doing well?” He continued, “I’ve also arrived at my unit and am adapting well. I ate rice cake soup for the Lunar New Year. I’ve been resting a little since it’s Seollal and I’m doing well. Another Seollal will have to pass before I can see you all, but I’ll do well with my time.”

RM ended by writing, “I believe that it will be another place of learning and experiences. Whenever, wherever, always be healthy. And I wish that you will experience a lot more good things than bad things. Hoping that our connection will continue to go on, I hope you receive a lot of New Year blessings!”

RM enlisted on December 11 alongside fellow BTS member V and was named an elite trainee at his military graduation last month. He’s currently assigned to the 15th Infantry Division in Hwacheon, Gangwon-do. BTS’s Jimin Says He and Jungkook Are Doing Well in Latest Weverse Post

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, BTS‘s Jimin took time out from his military duties to connect with fans on Weverse. Aside from his group’s fearless leader RM, he was the only other member of BTS who was able to greet fans on this special occasion.

Jimin enlisted with fellow BTS member Jungkook on December 12, 2023. They signed up for the South Korean military’s “동반입대” (dongbanipdae) or buddy system. This unique program allows soldiers to enlist with close friends or relatives, receive training together, and be assigned to the same residential unit. In his message, the “Like Crazy” singer reassured fans that he and Jungkook are alright.

He wrote, “ARMYs, it’s Seollal! Have a happy Seollal, and this year too, be healthy and don’t get hurt or sick. I hope this year, you will only be happy. Jungkook and I are doing well, so don’t worry too much, and I’ll come again! Eat lots of delicious things and don’t diet today.” This message not only updated fans on his and Jungkook‘s well-being but also encouraged them to enjoy the festivities without restraint.

Lunar New Year, or Seollal in Korea, is a cornerstone of Korean culture, emphasizing family bonds and cultural heritage. It falls on the first day of the lunar calendar, typically in late January or early February. Jimin made the effort to write to fans during Seollal while serving in the military. That he did so underscores how important the fans and their happiness are to him.

Get in touch with Jimin while he’s away

In related news, fans discovered that Jimin‘s father had installed a transparent letterbox outside Magnate, the café he runs in Busan. Fans used to visit the café and leave gifts and letters for the singer there, even before his enlistment. When Jimin’s father installed the letterbox, fans realized that it was his way of ensuring fans could still get in touch with Jimin while he’s away. What’s more, he would most likely be the one to deliver the letters in the letterbox to the idol. Not many parents or relatives of idols would do something like this, so they really appreciated the gesture.
