Psy’s Summer Swag Revealed as Most Targeted by Illegal Ticket Scalpers

Psy’s “Summer Swag” concert has been identified as the most frequently targeted event by illegal ticket scalpers over the past year, according to recent data.

‘Summer Swag 2024’ Tour Targeted By Illegal Ticket Scalpers

On October 6 KST, Rep. Kang Yoo Jung of the Democratic Party, who serves as a member of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, released a report highlighting the scale of ticket scalping from November 2023 to July 2024. The report revealed a total of 3,400 cases of illegal online ticket resales, with music concerts accounting for 2,556 cases (75.2%), making it the most affected category.

Fan meetings and festivals were also significant targets, with 519 scalping reports, followed by gaming events (200 cases) and musicals (125 cases).

Most of the illegal ticket sales occurred on second-hand resale platforms like Danggeun Market and Joonggo Nara, which accounted for 80% (2,721) of the reported cases. Social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram saw 626 instances of ticket scalping.

During the November 2023 to July 2024 period, authorities were able to validate 114 scalping reports. The Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) responded to 109 cases by taking actions such as ticket cancellations, verifying identities, and suspending suspicious accounts. Of these, 44 tickets were confirmed to be falsified, involving fake booking numbers or seat assignments.

Among the 65 valid cases that resulted in enforcement actions, Psy’s “Summer Swag” concert had the highest number of scalping incidents, with 15 cases. Other performances that saw high levels of ticket scalping included Na Hoon A’s “2024 Last Concert” and Younha’s “20th Anniversary Concert”. In total, scalped tickets were shockingly discovered for 34 different performances.

Rep. Kang also emphasized the need for stronger deterrents to curb illegal ticket resales, arguing that the current system undermines citizens’ cultural rights. She also called for the implementation of advanced technical measures to prevent scalping and urged for stricter legal penalties to make the practice unprofitable.

PSY Issues Apology Following Weight Loss Backlash

PSY recently addressed his fans and followers with an apology after facing weight loss backlash. However, not everyone is pleased with the singer having to explain his current appearance.

PSY Apologizes After Facing Weight Loss Backlash

Last week, numerous Korean netizens criticized the star’s appearance, accusing him of being “too thin.” On July 14, PSY took to Instagram to share a video of himself enjoying a meal of boiled pork. He accompanied the video with a heartfelt message acknowledging the feedback he received about his appearance. The video shows PSY indulging in a hearty meal of gukbap (pork rice soup) and boiled pork at a renowned restaurant with a 50-year history.

“After receiving harsh criticism for losing weight, and being told by a young man in Subong that I looked thin, and hearing from the audience at Daegu 1st Arena that I looked thin too, I devoured boiled pork with salted shrimp, kimchi, and peppers, mixing them with green onion and seasoning in a rage, until I couldn’t tell if it was broth or tears. I will get a grip,” he wrote.

PSY’s post quickly garnered attention from netizens, who had plenty to say about his eating habits and appearance in the comments. Many continued the “weight management” joke, emphasizing the irony that while the phrase typically implies most K-Pop artists need to lose weight, for PSY, the public concern was over his being too thin.

PSY Being Relatable

The humorous yet supportive comments highlighted the unique position PSY holds in the K-Pop industry, where he has always defied conventional beauty standards. Fans appreciated his candidness and the lighthearted way he addressed the situation.

Despite the controversy, PSY remained busy with his SUMMER SWAG 2024 concerts, which took place in Daegu on July 13 and 14 at Daegu Stadium’s main arena. The concerts were a part of his annual high-energy summer series, drawing large crowds eager to enjoy his performances.

PSY’s response to the backlash demonstrates his down-to-earth nature and his ability to connect with fans through humor and sincerity, further solidifying his beloved status in the entertainment industry.

PSY Fans Collapse During Summer Swag 2024 Concert

Several fans were understandably hyped about PSY’s performance at Summer Swag 2024, Unfortunately, some of them ended up collapsing due to the heat at the concert.

Fans Collapse During Summer Swag 2024

Four attendees were hospitalized after exhibiting symptoms of heat-related illnesses during PSY’s Summer Swag 2024 concert in Gwangju. Known for its high-energy atmosphere and enthusiastic crowds, PSY’s signature summer concert took place on July 6 at the World Cup Stadium. The Gwangju Fire Department reported that 78 concertgoers suffered from heat exhaustion. While most were treated on-site, four individuals required hospitalization.

The temperature in Gwangju on the day of the concert was sweltering, with a perceived temperature of 31.3 degrees Celsius. Despite a heatwave warning issued on July 5, it was downgraded to a heat advisory by 10 AM on the concert day. However, the intense heat still took its toll on the attendees.

PSY’s concerts are known for their lively and vigorous performances, which can be especially taxing in hot weather. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time a PSY concert has been impacted by extreme heat. In June of the previous year, a performance at Seoul’s Jamsil Sports Complex was briefly halted when a spectator collapsed due to heat exhaustion.

Concert organizers and authorities are now likely to review safety measures to better handle such situations in the future, ensuring the well-being of attendees. Fans and health officials alike are calling for increased precautions, such as providing more shaded areas, ensuring ample water supplies, and possibly adjusting the timing of outdoor events during extreme weather conditions.

The incident highlights the importance of taking heat warnings seriously and preparing adequately for outdoor events in high temperatures. It serves as a reminder for concertgoers to stay hydrated, wear appropriate clothing, and be mindful of their physical limits during such events.

As PSY’s Summer Swag concert series continues, fans are hopeful that these experiences will lead to improved safety measures, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the performances without risking their health.

MAMAMOO’s Hwasa Reveals Why She Reconsidered Joining P Nation

Hwasa is officially a part of P Nation. Back in June, the MAMAMOO member confirmed that she is joining the agency founded by PSY. However, this wasn’t always the case as Ahn Hye-jin initially refused to join the company. Interestingly, Hwasa has revealed the reason why she reconsidered and agreed to join the label.

Hwasa Shares How PSY Convinced Her To Join P Nation

In a recent episode of “Radio Star” where she was a guest, Hwa Sa discussed the recent controversy during the U.S. leg of MAMAMOO’s “MY CON” world tour. The scandal over her “R-rated” performance at a university festival made her a target for negative attention. It was a difficult time for the idol who admitted, “I got so many hate comments, so I was a little down.”

At that point, Hwasa wasn’t expecting to hear from PSY after she had turned down his initial offer to join P Nation. However, she revealed that he still reached out to her during that rough time. Interestingly, it was a song that was intended to brighten her spirits.

I’d been so down, but the song lifted my spirits,” Hwasa admitted. “I didn’t know why I was so drawn to the song, but I thought, ‘This is great. I think this is what I needed for my next song.’

The song turned out to be a demo for “I Love My Body” and Hwasa’s wish did come true. She later changed her mind and joined P Nation after realizing she worked well with PSY.

“We clicked better than I expected. I thought I wouldn’t work well with him,” she admitted.

It’s certainly a good thing that Hwasa reconsidered her decision and chose to sign with the agency. Her latest release “I Love My Body” is a celebration of one own’s figure and accepting everything about it.
