S.Coups Stuns on SPUR Magazine’s Latest Cover

S.Coups, the overall leader of the globally acclaimed K-pop group SEVENTEEN, recently graced the cover of SPUR Magazine’s June 2024 issue. This marks his first solo appearance on the cover of a Japanese magazine. This milestone comes after he went on a six-month hiatus following an ACL injury. 

During that time, S.Coups was unable to participate in any activities, including photoshoots. So, when he entered the venue of the SPUR Magazine photoshoot, the air was thick with anticipation. Everyone present couldn’t wait to see what S.Coups would do once he got in front of the camera.

S.Coups stood ready

On the day of the shoot, as S.Coups stood ready in front of the camera, the studio was bathed in warm sunlight, an auspicious start to his comeback. Sure enough, when he started striking poses for the photographer, he impressed the whole team with his charisma.

S.Coups donned four different looks for the photoshoot. On the cover, he wears a relaxed silhouette jacket by Dries Van Noten. It lent him an air of gravitas befitting the leader of a 13-member K-pop group, yet it also made him look gentle. Of all the outfits he wore that day, S.Coups said his favorite was a khaki coat and necktie from Fendi, citing it as a perfect example of the “old money look”—a current trend in Korea he’s keen to explore personally.

The feature also delves into S.Coups as an individual. In a revealing two-page interview, he discusses his role as a leader, the dynamics within SEVENTEEN, and his thoughts on the group’s future, offering fans a deeper insight into his personal and professional life. To coincide with the June issue’s release, SPUR Magazine announced a special campaign that includes signed photos. They also released a behind-the-scenes video and outtakes from the photoshoot.

His newfound hobby

In other news, OSEN reported on the 20th that S.Coups will be featured on ENA Channel Fifteen Night’s Real Fan Zone. His episode will be broadcast on the 29th. S.Coups recently participated in a recording as a devoted fan of the Samsung Lions, a baseball team based in his hometown.

S.Coups has taken a recent interest in baseball, sharing his newfound hobby with fans on Weverse. He posted, “I think I found a hobby…maybe I’ll become a baseball fan,” adding, “I guess Samsung is right for me? They are on a winning streak,” and expressing his desire to watch a game.

CARATs are curious about his upcoming appearance on Real Fan Zone. It’s known for its portrayal of passionate baseball fans and includes celebrities like Cha Tae-hyun and Jo Se-ho, who brings a neutral perspective as the show’s MC. – K-Pop News Writer

S.Coups Appears on the Cover of DAZED Korea’s Latest Issue

This month, the fashion and culture magazine DAZED Korea released a cover story featuring the leader of SEVENTEEN, S.Coups. With his distinctive, deep-set eyes and manly physique, S.Coups made hearts flutter on the set of the photoshoot. He cut a dashing figure in clothes by Fendi, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Versace, and more.

The photoshoot was organized by a team of skilled professionals. This team was led by DAZED Korea editor Keem Hyobeen. Also on board were art director Song Yuli, photographer Jang Dukhwa, stylist Choi Younghoe, and writer Kwon Sohee. S.Coups’s hair and makeup were done by Woo Eunhye and Ko Lina, respectively, both of whom are associated with Cutloose. Their collaboration resulted in a well-executed and visually appealing photoshoot.

After sustaining an ACL injury in August 2023, S.Coups went on hiatus. In the interview that accompanied the photos, he opened up about his recovery. He shared, “Yes, I’ve been diligently doing rehab, and watching all the guys’ performances. It was the first time I watched from the audience. As I watched, I thought, ‘Ah, they deserve to receive love.’ Being skilled is one thing, but they looked really happy being on stage.”

Frustrated and angry

S.Coups reflected on his role within SEVENTEEN. One of his duties involves the group’s greeting. When they have to introduce themselves, he leads the rest of the group by asking them to “Say the name.” They respond by shouting the group’s name.

According to S.Coups, his members did their best to execute the greeting properly in his absence, but they’re only human, so they naturally messed up from time to time. “They’re really bad at the greeting,” he told DAZED Korea with a chuckle. “They would keep making mistakes, so we’d talk about it and tease each other for it. That’s why I thought ‘I wish we were all together’ even more.”

While the rest of the members were working, he spent much time alone, which he found difficult. “I tried to be honest with my feelings. I was frustrated and angry with myself many times because I went from someone who uses their body to someone who can’t. Rehab felt more like overcoming myself rather than like exercise. I was worried. I had concerns like, ‘Even if I consistently do rehab, will I be able to use my body like before?’ Since I got hurt, I unconsciously became more scared and cautious when I moved.” Thinking of his members and the fans gave him the strength to go on.

S.Coups is still taking it easy

The interview also delved into S.Coups’s leadership style and how it has evolved over the years. He credits fellow SEVENTEEN member Jeonghan with helping him become a better leader.

“Up until 2020, I was kind of a scary hyung,” S.Coups admits. “At one point, there were a lot of rules, and I gave a lot of feedback as the hyung. I did that wanting the members to love each other the most when it came to this job. But then we ended up not really being happy on stage. SEVENTEEN’s charm won’t show when things are awkward, too disciplined, and uptight. That’s why I felt like I was doing something wrong. At the time, Jeonghan really helped me. He has always had a casual, friend-like relationship with the members, so he gave me lots of advice and even conveyed to the members how I really felt. From that point on, I let go of a lot of things.”

S.Coups’s condition has since improved to the point that he has been able to return to work, although he’s still taking it easy. SEVENTEEN is gearing up for a comeback and more concerts. SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups Exempted From Military Service Due to ACL Injury

SEVENTEEN‘s leader, S.Coups, has been exempted from serving in the South Korean military. This exemption is due to a severe knee injury he sustained last year.

“S.Coups underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and lateral collateral ligament reconstruction in his left knee due to a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament. It was a major surgery, and he has been receiving rehabilitation treatment for a long period since last year. It is because of this that S.Coups was classified as Grade 5 in his physical examination,” his agency, PLEDIS Entertainment, said in a statement.

Being in Grade 5 exempts him from active duty. He is required to serve only in military affairs during wartime situations. His exemption is crucial as individuals born in 1995, like him, must enlist for active duty within the year.

PLEDIS Entertainment had previously announced that S.Coups would resume promoting with SEVENTEEN. “As a result of consistent treatment and ample rest, the injured area has somewhat improved,” they wrote. “Recently, he has received medical advice that it is okay to fulfill his scheduled activities as long as it does not strain his body excessively.”

How are exemptions determined?

In South Korea, a physical examination determines military service exemptions and assignments. This process assigns military grades from 1 to 7. Grades 1 to 3 indicate fitness for active duty. Grade 4 is for those who qualify for supplemental service. Grade 6 leads to exemption from military service, and Grade 7 is for those who need a re-examination due to health issues. Exemptions also go to individuals with exceptional talents or debilitating health conditions.

Grade 5 in South Korea’s military classification generally means assignment to alternative service. This is instead of active duty due to physical or health conditions. There are instances where those classified as Grade 5 may still be exempted from all forms of military service. This includes alternative or social service. The decision is based on specific circumstances or additional evaluations of their condition. Each case is evaluated individually. Exemptions or assignments can vary based on the health issues’ nature and severity.

This policy aligns with broader policies detailed on the Yeson Hospital bulletin board. This platform facilitates e-consultations. Korean netizens can seek advice from medical specialists. According to one specialist, the Ministry of National Defense Ordinance No. 950 updated on February 1, 2018, says those who have undergone anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction are classified as Grade 5. This classification means they’re exempted from military service regardless of the surgery’s outcome. 

The specialist’s explanation, dated July 29, 2018, notes that the exemption remains due to the knee’s vulnerability to further damage and arthritis. “In our experience, even if the patient insists on joining the military or conscripted police, life will not be easy because of the injured knee. In that case, colleagues and superiors will also have a hard time. The desire to fulfill one’s national defense duty deserves praise, but reality is reality.”

S.Coups will participate in SVT’s next comeback

PLEDIS Entertainment responded to reports about the group’s comeback in April. “We will make an official announcement regarding SEVENTEEN‘s precise comeback schedule at a later date.”

Regardless of the exact comeback date, S.Coups will be part of it alongside bandmate Jeonghan, who also took a break for ankle surgery. They will participate in the group’s other scheduled activities, including their upcoming concerts in Seoul and Japan. – K-Pop News Writer

S.Coups Blocks SEVENTEEN’s Access to His Credit Card on ‘NANA Tour’

On January 5, the first episode of NANA Tour with SEVENTEEN finally aired, bringing excitement to the group’s fans with its unique concept. The show is a spin-off of the Korean travel reality show Youth Over Flowers, which is known for its unique format where the production team surprises the cast with spontaneous trips, often with little to no prior notice. In SEVENTEEN’s case, the members were whisked away to Italy after playing two shows in Tokyo, Japan last September as part of their FOLLOW Tour. Unfortunately, their leader S.Coups couldn’t join the tour or the Italy trip due to a knee injury. Instead, he sent the members a letter through Na Young-seok, the producer behind NANA Tour with SEVENTEEN. 

Jeonghan read the letter out loud in the first episode. It said, “Thank you for picking up my letter. I feel so sorry for you guys going without any preparation. You can use this card however you want. I’ll be waiting for you well in Korea. Have fun. I love you!”

S.Coups’s love for SEVENTEEN knows no bounds

The members were both surprised and touched to find that S.Coups had sent his credit card along with the letter, giving them the freedom to use it however they liked. Amidst the excitement for the release of SEVENTEEN’s upcoming 11th mini-album SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN, concern sparked among the group’s fandom following a health update about injured leader S.coups. 

On Thursday, October 19, PLEDIS Entertainment announced that S.coups won’t be participating in the promotional activities for SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN given his health condition. 

In August, the rapper sustained a tear in his left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) while filming for a show. Back then, the agency shared that the idol was immediately taken to the hospital for a comprehensive medical examination. 

S.coups’ current condition

According to PLEDIS Entertainment, S.Coups underwent anterior cruciate ligament and anterolateral ligament reconstruction surgery. 

Although it’s been two months since the successful surgery, the road to recovery remains a long and challenging one for S.coups. 

In their recent update, the label assured fans that the idol has been prioritizing his recovery and rehabilitation, undergoing the necessary treatments and physical therapy. 

However, PLEDIS Entertainment disclosed that the artist’s knee is still in a vulnerable state. Moreover, the SEVENTEEN member was also advised to avoid any physical taxing activities to ensure a full recovery. 

While S.coups had a strong desire to participate in the group’s activities, the agency decided to not let him go given his condition. 

Additionally, they asked for the fans’ understanding given that the decision was made in consultation with medical professionals. 

CARATs will wait for SEVENTEEN’s leader

Following the news, fans have taken to social media to express their love and understanding for the rapper’s situation. 

Meanwhile, S.coups also personally penned a message for CARATs on Weverse.

“I wanted to participate in activities as much as I could, but I’ll take a break for a while to focus on rehabilitation,” he told them. Furthermore, he also assured fans that he’ll focus on his recovery so he can show a healthier version of him as soon as possible. 

Since his injury, S.coups had been on hiatus and even missed the group’s Follow concert in Japan. 

As for SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN, it will be released on October 23 with “God of Music” as the title track.

SEVENTEEN’s S. Coups Searches Weverse For CARAT Who Secretly Paid For His Meal

The SEVENTEEN leader revealed on Weverse that a CARAT paid for his meal and then left without saying a word!

S.Coups is on a mission to find an important CARAT. The SEVENTEEN leader has taken to Weverse in his search for a Good Samaritan. According to the rapper, a fan had paid for his meal at a restaurant. However, they did so discreetly without revealing their identity!

On September 15, S. Coups shared a touching encounter. An anonymous fan generously paid for his meal without uttering a word, leaving the act of kindness a secret. This unexpected gesture deeply moved the artist. Impressed and touched by this selfless act, S.Coups took to Weverse to personally express his gratitude to the thoughtful fan.

“Man, who…why did you pay for the meal and leave…who is it? which CARAT was it?” he wrote. The rapper further explained what happened in the comments section.

“A couple paid for it and left, which of the two is the CARAT??” S. Coups wrote. He then further explained that the gesture was a great comfort. “I was getting worn out from the rehabilitation but I was comforted (by the fan),” the rapper wrote.

The public acknowledgment not only highlighted the fan’s generosity but also showcased the genuine connection between artists and their dedicated supporters, reinforcing the bond between idols and their fandom. Such heartwarming instances serve as a reminder of the positive impact fans can have on their favorite artists and the reciprocal appreciation that often blossoms within the K-pop community.

S. Coups was recently injured while filming content with the rest of the group. Once taken to the hospital, it was confirmed that Choi Seungcheol had suffered from a torn ACL and would need several months to recuperate. Although S. S.coups Flies to Japan to Support Seventeen’s Concert Despite Being Injured

SEVENTEEN leader S.coups, or Choi Seungcheol in real life, has once declared how his group members meant a lot to him. And he once again proved his dedication and devotion for SEVENTEEN in a recent incident that deeply moved the group’s fans. 

On Monday, September 4, S.coups posted on the group’s Weverse platform that he missed SEVENTEEN. Member Hoshi suggested that the eldest member should visit them, to which S.coups replied that he’s coming.  

 

During the exchange, the rest of the SEVENTEEN members were already in Japan for the group’s two-day FOLLOW concert at the Tokyo Dome. However, S.coups is currently on hiatus due to his ACL injury. 

It can be recalled that PLEDIS Entertainment announced in early August that S.coups had an accident while filming. Although his surgery was successful, his recovery is supposed to take a while. Which is why the agency has announced that he won’t be able to participate in SEVENTEEN’s upcoming activities. 

Given his situations, fans were ready to not see S.coups for an extended period of time as he needs to focus on getting better. But it appeared that the group leader had other plans. 

Surprise from S.coups!

Most of the fans thought that the exchange between S.coups and Hoshi was just their usual banter. Which is why many were astounded when the rapper followed through with his words. 

Dressed in a white shirt, half-denim pants, red beanie, and a black mask, S.coups was seen in a wheelchair at the airport. Additionally, the photos and videos showed the leader’s left leg still encased in a cast. 

On social media, fans were quick to applaud the idol for his loyalty to SEVENTEEN. Many fans praised him for his dedication and commitment in showing support for the group event though it was evident that he was in physical discomfort. 

 

Another thing that endeared CARATs was how the group members weren’t even aware of S.coups decision to go to Japan. A comment from Hoshi on Weverse showed the dancer telling the group leader that he should’ve rested more instead. 

 

And as another proof of SEVENTEEN’s bond with each other, S.coups was also present during the first day of the group’s concert on Wednesday, September 6. 

During the concert, he was even asked by the members to do the group’s usual introduction. “Successful fan,” S.coups wrote about the experience. 

 

Currently, SEVENTEEN is having their Japan dome tour for their FOLLOW concert. It saw the return of Seungkwan, who’s been on hiatus since July. 

Additionally, the group is set to return with their 11th mini-album in October. Final details about that specific comeback have yet to be announced as of writing.

Look: Seventeen Releases First Season of Artist-Made Collection

SEVENTEEN surprised fans by announcing that they’ll be releasing their first batch of artist-made collection! 

Similar to BTS’ artist-made collection, this SEVENTEEN version will see each 13 members create their own set of merchandise. 

From conceptualizing and planning the product to reviewing the samples, each merchandise in their collection was made with personal contribution of the SEVENTEEN members. 

 

However, the release schedule for the artist-made collection of the members differ. The SEVENTEEN members were divided into three groups, whose collections will be released from 2023 to late 2024. 

According to the scheduler released by HYBE MERCH, the division of the members and the release date are as follows: 

  • Season 1 (September 2023): S.coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun 
  • Season 2 (Early 2024): Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The8 
  • Season 3 (Late 2024): Mingyu, Vernon, DK, Dino, Seungkwan

 

The first season of SEVENTEEN’s artist-made collection will be available via offline and online stores.

Offline stores will run from September 1 to September 10. Meanwhile, the online selling will start on September 13. Additionally, the shipping schedules also vary for each regional retailer. 

On the other hand, there’s still no other details about the second and third season of the artist-made collection for the rest of the SEVENTEEN members. 

Moreover, HYBE MERCH also released a making log of how each product came to be. 

S.coups’ collection 

With the theme “bright after rain,” SEVENTEEN’s leader made a customized umbrella and glass set for CARATs. 

“When it rains, I don’t usually feel very happy,” he said. “So I want you all to use the umbrella I made on a rainy day and feel a little bit better.” 

 

The umbrella has bright doodles inside, while the glass set even has stickers and features that changes depending on the temperature. Seungcheol even joked that he’ll use the glass set often. 

Jeonghan’s collection 

As for Jeonghan, he mixed a bunny and a squirrel to make a character that represents him. 

“I want him to be bright and energetic but gets exhausted easily,” he said of Toram. Aside from his representative animals, Jeonghan also used wings as the ears for his character.

 

For his products, he had a stuffed animal of Toram that carries a blanket and a mood light. 

After seeing the final products, Jeonghan said that he was so happy with the results. “i’ve always wanted to create my own character. And through this great opportunity, we got to create this after a long discussion,” he said. 

Joshua’s collection 

One of Joshua’s recent habits is making scents, as mentioned in SEVENTEEN’s In The Soop. So it was not surprising that he made a DIY perfume-making kit. 

He said that it was a kit that includes different scents that he personally likes. “CARATs can mix the scents however they want,” he explained. 

Among some of the scents included in his kit are vanilla, rose, woody notes, and citrus. What makes it even cuter is the scents had names associated to Joshua, such as “Sunday morning” and “deer.”

Jun’s collection 

Most, if not all, CARATs knew that cats are Jun’s representative animal. And seems like the idol’s more than okay with it as he makes a cat-themed collection. 

One of his two products are the phone cases. Jun said that since he changes phone cases often, he’d want to use the same style as CARATs. 

Next are stuffed animals, cats, specifically. He explained it’s because he has been playing claw machines often lately.
